Today, government-owned airline, Republic Airlines was privatized after 50 years of government control. The airline was nationalized after former owner Frank Liverson was convicted of fraud after lying to investigators about unfair activites. Under a deal, regional airline Commonwealth Air Service would aquire the international section of Republic Airlines, and Republic Airlines would get the regional section of CAS. After this deal, CAS would become Commonwealth Airlines. The plan to have both airlines have international and regional flights was the idea of Transportation Secretary, Alexander Riley.
