Short History

The Empire of Thrashia, as it came to be known, is a collective of former nation-states that were joined either through diplomatic or military means under the aristocracy of Thrashia which arrived with military and economical forces to impose rule over them after the holocaust that was the Second World War. Such was the power of these Germanic invaders, that the indigenous peoples could offer little resistance after the devastation of the previous Great War.

After this seizure of territory the Thrashian Empire entered into a golden era of progress in economic reforms and political reform with the rise of the Leto family to the Imperial Throne. Emperor Vilnius Leto II instituted popular reforms that guaranteed freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, and pursuit of property. This caused the people of the newly formed Empire to rally behind and support the new regime, which allowed the Leto family to become even further entrenched within its new territory. Region governors were given noble titles, and power to rule over their regions, however were subject to civilian councils that were elected at large. However, in all things, the Emperor has the final say.

With the rise of the modern age the Empire, as it is commonly referred to, has risen to be a world power not only militarily, but also economically. It is the world’s largest producer of computer technology and environmentally clean machinery, as well as being a leader in the automotive and steel industries. It is also one of the world’s largest weapons exporters. Because it contains so much abundance in natural resources the Empire is virtually self-sufficient. However it does import oil and other materials it deems that can be more easily gotten from outside of Thrashia and therefore not liable to using up is own resources.

The Thrashian Banking system is one styled on the Swiss Banking model. Complete privacy is assured and all bank rates are regulated by the Imperial Department of Finance. Foreign accounts are welcome and are numerous, as the Imperial Ducat has remained a stable currency for well over a century, with little fluctuation. This has turned the Empire into a financial mecca for smaller countries that rely upon the staying power of the Imperial Ducat to keep their own currency from plummeting in value. At any time an estimated $30 billion USD are transferred via foreign accounts.

Territory

The Empire of Thrashia is an island continent. The majority of the population lies within three cities of gargantuan size located within the great river valley that is in the center of the continent, surrounded by large mountains and hills. The outer cities beyond the Curtain Mountains are smaller but a bit more focused on industry. There are five major ports, each with its own naval base, and a few locations where the military holds entire control.

The environment can best be described as a temperate one. There is an almost mundane normalcy to the seasons which vary only when large ocean-derived storms are created during the hurricane seasons. The rainy season (Late March – Early April) can cause the countryside to become a morass of mud and loose soil in areas, leading most farmland to exist in valleys on the side of hilly inclines.

There are also a few necropolises in Thrashia, massive cities of the dead carved out of marble and granite. They are located in special, almost sacred, places around the country and are a place of great activity in the Fall Season when the Day of Remembrance is held, remembering the dead.

Military
The Empire of Thrashia maintains a standing army that is a little over 1% of its population but can in times of war expand to 5% with little trouble in times of emergency (500 million) via means of mass conscription.

Imperial Army

Due to the rather large proportion of combat personnel being within the Thrashian Army, the Imperial Army High Command (OKW) has organized itself into army groups, under army C-in-C Grand Marshal Stefan Reinhardt. In total there are 17 army groups, containing a total of 207 armies, each numbering 100,000 men. They are further subdivided into regional commands, that can number any amount of armies based upon geographical position and relative border.

Imperial Air Force

Total Combat Effectives: 5,500,000

Like the army, the combat personnel in the Thrashian Air Force (controlled by the OKW) is organized into air groups. There are 90 air groups, each containing 50,000 personnel. Each air group varies in its equipment and vehicle type, some being focused on anti-air work, being made up of group based ballistic units. Others are devoted to the perfection of fighter-to-fighter combat and others to a mix-and-match in training.

Imperial Navy

Total Combat Effectives: 5,500,000

The Thrashian Imperial Navy is organized into a different pattern than either the army or air force. The navy is split into Naval Districts, each containing two naval groups which also hold a fairly balanced proportion of air craft carriers, battle ships, frigates, submarines, and other ships. They are controlled each by its own rear admiral, who report to the Imperial Naval High Command.

The most common and therefore numerous infantry type of the Thrashian Imperial Army is the Army Regular. Each is given 8 months of training before active duty and service. Equipment includes: assault rifle, ssw (.50 cal and lower), grenades, flak armor, and stahl type 80 helmets. Other equipment includes mortars, portable anti-tank cannon, and land mines.

The Grenadiers are specialized infantry who are trained to fight armored vehicles and tanks. Usually attached to armored units or at times formed into kill squads for anti-tank work these are some of the toughest soldiers in the Imperial Army. Each has gone through Regular training and then specialist training. They are equipped with the newest in anti-tank shoulder mounted rockets, RPGs, anti-tank rifles, and all equipment usually given to Regulars. Grenadiers are also cross trained in engineering for field work purposes.

Scout Recon troops are recruited from among the Grenadiers and the Regulars. Prerequisites are that applicants must have combat experience. Recon troops are trained in sniper shooting, stealth, and above all infiltration, allowing them to do their main objective of gathering intelligence. While very good at disrupting infantry of any enemy formation, faced against armor the scout recon troops have little to use.

Section Four: Specialist Organizations

The Waffen Shutzel Vipers

In ancient Thrashian 'Waffen Shutzel' means 'Armed Protective', used to stand for the old personal guards that once protected and defended the People's Senate in ancient times. They were renown in legend as warriors of superior stature and nature, able to fight for days without rest or need of sustenance. When the Thrashian Empire was only fifty years old a small war was had between Thrashia and a smaller nation nearby its borders. Several Thrashian infantry divisions were cut off in a major battle and forced to defend themselves. They fought off enemy attacks for 89 days with little to no assistance from Thrashian high command. When the survivors returned to Thrashia they were heralded as heroes and Spartans. The army however could not use them as their old formations were tattered and the survivors themselves refused to be separated from their battle-made comrades. Therefore the Emperor allowed them to form a new unit and upon their request, took the name the Waffen Shutzel Vipers, after both the old Senate Guard and from Thrashia’s mythological past which gives a bit of divinity to the Viper snake for its audacity and prowess.

The Waffen SV are trained from the beginning to follow orders without question, greet pain with a smile, know no fear, and above all kill the enemy, which they are quite good at doing. For the last 50 years the Waffen SV have incorporated several different aspects from all different branches of the armed forces. They used the specialized armor of the Scout Recon, the assault techniques of the Grenadiers, and the training and command systems of the Armored Air Korp, as well as nearly all small arm weapons within the Thrashian arsenal. The Waffen SV even have their own armor korp. The infantry training of the Waffen SV is usually very thorough, covering all normal training. Cunning and initiative are stressed. Many men are taught to drive tanks and other vehicles as a second or third skill. Use of simple demolitions and the handling of antitank and antipersonnel mines are often included in the training, along with a familiarization of several foreign weapon systems.

The Waffen SV pride themselves on being the elite, the best fighting unit within the entire Thrashian Armed Services. They also have some of the highest casualty counts due to their tenacious way of going about combat. They will never retreat unless literally forced to or by order from the Waffen SV commander Field Marshal Michael Wittman or the Emperor. When they attack they do so to the utmost.

The Black Knight Imperial Guard

Similar to the standards and armament of the Waffen SV, the armed guards of the Emperor, the Black Knight Imperial Guard, are known for their fanatical loyalty to the Emperor and their unquestionable ability to be ruthless creators of blood baths. The Imperial Guard is only ever 1,000 men in size and often seen at royal functions or guarding certain embassies in foreign countries. Many member of the Imperial Guard are buried within a large mausoleum that is located within the massive Imperial Gardens, on the Emperor's private estate, legend saying that they guard the emperor in death as they did in life.

Geistsoldaten "Ghost Soldiers"

The Geistsoldaten are the special forces of Thrashia and are under command of the main army. They specialize in all forms of infiltration, recon, and assault. They are known as Ghost Soldiers due to not one ever having been caught or found by the enemy. During times of war the Geistsoldaten Command comes under control of the Army, however several Waffen SV units are comprised of members from this organization.

The Armored Air Korp


A specialized part of the Thrashian Army, is the Armored Air Korp; the paratrooper korp of the empire. Soldiers specializing in air drops from as high as 10,000 feet, landing behind enemy lines, and fighting until relieved. The AAK accepts applicants from all services of the armed forces and has training on par with the Waffen SV, though with a higher death rate. These airborne troops are some of the best in what they do. Armed with specialized weapons, due to lack of ability to carry heavier weapons, they are forced to operate under extreme conditions and as such are often cross trained in using enemy weaponry so heavier weapons can be used as presents themselves.

Army Order of Battle


[Army Group]:
An organizational formation made up of a number of Armies. The largest single Thrashian organizational formation. Usually consists of hundreds of various units and upwards of a few hundred thousand men, all of which operate in a far ranging geographic region of a front. Commanded by a Field Marshal or one field grade below.

[Army]:

An Army consists of one or more Korps, plus any attached or independent units or formations, units in reserve, and its own organic units. Armies serve at the strategic level, not at the tactical. An Army has between 60,000 and 100,000 men within its ranks.

[Korps]:

A Korps contains one or more Divisions, plus any attached or independent units or formations, units in reserve, and its own organic units. Korps serve at the strategic/operational level, directing the actions of mainly Divisional sized units, as well as those independent battalions that are attached temporarily to the Korps or that are organic to it. A Korps has between 40,000 and 60,000 men within its ranks.

[Division]:
A Division varies in size, with most containing between 1 and 4 Regiments, plus any attached or independent units or formations, and its own organic units. Divisions served at the operational level, both in combat and as the operational HQ for the Regiments and attached units and formations of the Division. A Division has between 10,000 and 20,000 men within its ranks.

[Brigade]:

Brigade sized units served either as independent units, as an organic part of a specific Division, or sometimes as an organic part of a Korps in place of a Division. Many Divisions consists of one or two Brigades, each consisting of a number of Regiments along with the usual attached and organic units. Brigades serve mostly at the operational/tactical level. A Brigade has between 5000 and 7000 men within its ranks.

[Regiment]:

Regiments consist of a number of battalions, along with any attached units or formations, and its own organic units. Regiments serve mainly at the tactical level. A Regiment has between 2000 and 6000 men within its ranks.

[Battalion]:

A Battalion consists of a number of Companies, sometimes also with other attached units or formations. These units served at the tactical level directly engaging in combat. The Battalion is the smallest self-contained and self-sufficient combat formation. It is armed and manned to be fully able to maintain itself in combat without the support of other units. Any unit below the level of a battalion usually does not have enough offensive or defensive firepower and support elements (mountain, anti-tank, Artillery, MGs, etc), to maintain itself in a combat situation. A Battalion organization has between 500 and 1000 men within its ranks.

[Company]:

A Company consists of a number of Platoons. Company serve at the tactical level. A Company has between 100 and 200 men within its ranks.

[Platoon]:

A Platoon consisted of a number of Squads. The platoon served at the tactical level. A platoon has between 30 and 40 men within its ranks.

[Squad]:

The smallest sub-unit in the Thrashian military, usually a component of a Platoon.

[Battlegroup]:

The Battlegroup is an often used Thrashian combat formation that doesn't really have an equal in other international military organization, being closest in concept to that of a task force. A Battlegroup ranges in size from a Korps to a Battalion or Company in size. Most Battlegroup are usually around a Battalion in size. The Battlegroup is essentially an ad-hoc organization of different arms (Some tanks, a few artillery pieces, infantry, some assault boats, a few anti-tank guns, etc), more-or-less organized temporarily for a specific operational task. These tasks could be short term or long term in nature, and they are often organized quickly in accordance with tactical and strategic situation at hand. Battlegroup are usually named after the person chosen to command the formation.

Panzer Brigade Info

A Panzer Brigade consists of three armored regiments.

Each panzer regiment has a Communication/Command Platoon of 3 tanks, making up the Regimental Staff. Under it are three companies, each headed by a Company Staff Platoon of 5 tanks, consisting of four platoons of 5 tanks each. This brings the operational strength of each Panzer Regiment to 73 MBTs. Accompanying each regiment is an Mechanized Engineer/Pioneer Battalion for repairs, bridging, mine clearing, and other miscellaneous tasks that the regiment may need.

Within a Thrashian Panzer Division there are two Heavy Tank Regiments, consisting of the above, and a third regiment of Light, built on the same model as above. This in turn makes up a brigade, added with a brigade staff.

Mechanized Grenadier Brigade Info

A Panzer Grenadier Brigade consists of three regiments, each of 3 Battalions at a designated strength of 1,000 men each.

Each Battalion carries a Heavy MG company, an Engineer/Pioneer company, and then three regular assault companies. Both the MG company and the Engineer company are fully loaded onto M4A5 Spartan AFVs (20 to each), with only one of the regular assault companies mounted on the Spartan as well (60 overall to each Battalion). The remaining two companies are mounted on CCVs and lighter armored APCs.

Lancaster Missile Boat

Overview

The Lancaster-class Missile Boat is the latest escort/fast attack type craft designed and produced for the Thrashian Imperial Navy. It is designed with next generation technology and tools, making it the hottest and newest war-toy in the Imperial arsenal. The Propaganda Ministry have hailed it as the begging of a new age for the Navy.


Armament

The Lancaster class has the latest in surveillance and weapons technology all integrated into an intelligent command system. A Lancaster class vessel can monitor about 200 km of air space and its Umkhonto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umkhonto_missile) surface-to-air missile system can simultaneously engage a maximum of eight aircraft, up to 14 km away, while the vessel's anti-ship missiles have a range in excess of 100 km.

The Lancaster class' primary weaponry are six RBS-15 Mk.3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RBS15) anti-ship missiles. The vessels are further equipped with a Bofors 57 mm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bofors_57_mm_gun) gun against surface and aerial targets as well as the Umkhonto-IR surface-to-air missiles, MASS decoy system and two 12.7 mm heavy machine guns. It is also possible to use the ship for mine-laying.

Stealth Technology

The Lancaster class has been designed and constructed as stealth ships with minimal magnetic, heat and radar signatures. The shape of the vessel has been designed to reduce radar signature. Metal parts have been covered with radar absorbent material, and the composite parts have radar absorbent material embedded in the structure. Radar transparent materials (kevlar, balsa) have been used where applicable.

Unlike glass fiber, carbon fiber blocks radio waves. This protects ship's electronics against electromagnetic pulse. In addition, it stops any radio frequency signals generated by ships electronic devices to escape outside. Except for the bridge, the vessel has no windows that would allow the signals to escape. The vessel contains hardly any steel parts, thus generating very low magnetic field. The remaining magnetic field is actively canceled with electromagnets. Exhaust gases can be directed underwater to minimize thermal signature, or up in the air to minimize sound in submarines direction. 50 nozzles around the decks and upper structures can be used to spray seawater on the vessel to cool it. In addition, the nozzles can be used to clean the ship after chemical attack or radioactive fall-out.
