The 1st Aggresive-Defensive Alliance of Nations Military Olympics

-----

OOC Disclaimer

- This is a closed thread to all non-ADAN (Aggresive-Defensive Alliance of Nations) nations, and is open to ADAN only, both AAN and DAN segments. While some OOC opinions and constructive criticism are welcome, outsiders are not allowed to participate in any of the events and the judging board will be of ADAN members only.

The ADAN is an MT/EPMT (Modern Tech/Early PostModern Tech) alliance and it's latest thread is linked here (http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=548021).

-----

Welcome to the very first Aggresive-Defensive Alliance of Nations military olympics, a place for the ADAN's AAN and DAN segments to flex their military muscle in every genre in the comparitive safety of a massive secret military camp of some sort in an undisclosed location.

Some of the many 'contests' to be held over the next month or so could include some of the following;

- A Demolition Derby with tanks,
- Dogfights,
- A Three-Weapon marksmanship course, involving long range precision shooting, precision combat driving, and possibly shooting while figure skating a Main Battle Tank on ice.
- Hand-to-Hand, bare-fisted combat
- Bayonet fencing
- Shot-put with hand grenades, clout putting and distance. Clout speed-shooting with heavy artillery.

And possibly, if time permits;

- A snowball fight
- A mascot assasination competition
- A Jeep race
- Paintball-Defibrillator-Hockey

The 'contests' will be judged on 'who survives' and the most damage caused, godmodding exempt. Before entering a contest, a very brief writeup for the object used in the contest should be submitted.

First of all, however, Roll Call.

Say 'yo'!

Interesting problem with the "should we use standard tanks?"
http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=1730

In short, not really, use what you'd feel comfortable using.

If it's something with heavy armor and big gun, it'll lose the race...
If it lacks armor, it'll ultimately get wrecked...
If the gun simply isn't a good shooter, it'll be fail on the firing line...

Accuracy, ROF, range, tracking rate, and penetration being all considered.

---------
That said, I'd submit an HT-106 heavy tank.
It may not be as heavy gunned or armored as the 108's, but it still has a central turret and good all-round armor.

Now I just need to figure out an olympic tank crew and pit crew /w/ CRV...
An HTD-108 would make a fine AVRE...

Seeing as this is an MT alliance, I'd guess MT. Doesn't have to be your own design, just whatever your army uses. If it's a RL thing, give a link to it's page. Note, however, that RL tanks are kinda crap on NS.

I'll be using an upgraded Chally-2.
Nothing too exciting, just the engine uprated from 1,200 to 1,500 hp, better rounds in the gun, improved Chobham armour. That sorta thing.
The gun is the same basic system, just with better targetting and rounds.

Simplest description of the HT-106 would be a 50 to 80 ton AMX-30 due to larger overall dimensions. Powerplant/suspension modifications resembling Strv-103 (900 HP Gas turbine + 350 HP Diesel on a CODLAG powertrain [600 hp compound shunt motor]).

105 ~ 125 mm main gun
20 ~ 35 mm Coaxial
Unspecified 24" ring or Pedestal mount

And yes, it'll be the Hurtian production version (HT-106C3) rather than the crazy Low-recoil Shelliegh 152 mm'ed "D" version and paper-turreted "E" artillery piece, or the promotional test vehicle which was all engine and no internal fuel, or crew anemities...

I'd like to bring three.

Likewise, I'd round out these behomoths with a few (three) HT-101F2 Medium Infantry Support Tanks, and nine HT-101APCs. For longer range artillery I'd try and slip through an HTA-108 and a pair of HTD-108s.

I shoulda just opted for the K2 + NKIFV...

Now for the un-twinked stat-block...

HT-106 "Heavy tank"

Engines: 350 Hp diesel/600 Hp electric motor, and 900 HP Gas turbine
Land speed: Limited to 45 mph (for safety, can be overridden to go faster in emergencies)
Suspension: Hydronumatic with leaf spring and later torsion bar assisted suspension

Maximum land speed on diesels alone: 25 mph
Cruising speed: 15 mph (road) 5 mph (cross country)

Mass: 50 to 80 tons
Range: Up to 300 Miles
Crew: 3

Armarment:
main gun: 125 autoloading with 36 rounds
co-axial: One 35 mm CC-35A cannons with 500 rounds + One 12.7 mm Kord HMG with 1500
Other: Over-barrel and side of turret mounted ATGM rails (5 ATGMs, optional), also function as hand-holds
Universal pintle mount

Standard Features:
-Front dozer blade
-Walk-in engine compartment access panel
-Tow-cables and hook mounts
-Quick-replaceable ammo magazines for autoloader
-Internal resserve space for additional ammunition
-Coaxial guns can be elevated independent of main gun above +65 degrees.
-'Smart' Laser Rangefinder and Fire Predictor, based upon Otagian 'Smartgun' scope.
-Thermal and UV Imagers
-Integrated GPS, accelerometer, and radio into ground Fire Control Unit, for rapid positional override of any compatable tank gun, artillery piece, or close-air-support
-A phone and PDA for infantry to obtain tactical information from tank commander both audiably and visualy.
-Underside crew egress hatch

Armor (not calulated for deflection)
Base: @ 50 tons
turret front: 750mm
glacis plate: 600 mm
sides: 500 mm
rear: 400mm
top: 350mm,
bottom: 300 mm

Max: @ 80 tons
turret front: 1100mm
glacis plate: 1000 mm
sides: 750 mm
rear: 600mm
top: 650mm,

Limit involved soldiers/athletes per nation to about 50? 15?
Then allow them to carry whatever they please? (and would it include mechanics and support personel? [I say yes])

Or is there going to be another kind of limit?
Fuel? Horsepower? Tonnage? Ground pressure?

Note that Tonnage and Ground Pressure would be dictated by the host nation's infrastructure.

As I recall one military excercise (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=502282)that had a very strict rule on tanks climbing the alps for fear of avalanche...
--------

I suppose I can cut myself back to 3 tanks (1 HT-106 and two HT-101 IFVs) a SP gun (HTA-108) and a pair of F-4H2 Phantom IIs with a total crew of 15. Maybe a few contractor's trailers to provide better living/working conditions.

And keep in mind, the bare-bones crew for such a deployment of machinery is considered 45...
And they'll have to also compete on stick-fighting, plus keep this equipment functioning under less than optimal conditions.

Too bad I can't deploy a MUHT... As that would require a crew of 30...

K, now onto the people I'll be sending... This is only a preliminary, since I'm not sure if all of them are still alive in my RPs...

I think we should limit only the personnel like HT said, but contest should only feature specific equipment.

In this one, your nation's standard issue tanks or similar and recovery vehicles. Yes?

Fifty people per nation, then. yes or no?

For this course, we should have terrain such as high slopes, bridges only able to take a certain weight, and rivers, as well as marshes and swamps.
Megalithon

i concur. 50 personnel each nation and standard issue tanks.

01-03-2008, 23:25
I'll send 49 men then, plus a camera operator named 'Steve'.

I may ned to substitute the HTD-108 in place of the HTA-108 then for the bridges...

On the upside, now I have enough people to deploy a MUHT with...
*Deploys a MUHT for teh lulz*

And yes, it's standard issue to my special heavy artillery divisions...
Which I hardly ever used because there isn't much need for a 12" SPG or mobile ICBM launcher during COIN operations...

It isn't that fast, clocked at about 10 mph average...
Most cars idle at 15 mph...
The upside is that the PM section is almost all engine and finds itself moving large objects quite well. Think ARV or bulldozer duties...

The gun section can pretty much be moved and dropped off, acting as a tracked carriage of towed 12" artillery...

Then there's the ammo carriage, which also helps balance the huge barrel...

IIRC, the largest section wieghs 150 tons, the whole MUHT can come up to 300 to 450 tons fully loaded...

(The PM can tow one section at a time if need be, and have the barrel itself detached and dragged or attached to a special limber to divide the load into 4 groups, the barrel+limber being able to be towed by an HT-101 or an M939 [hard-surface only, after special accomodations])

I think I'll add three M939 trucks and a pair of M984s, because things get fugly when the HT-304 PM (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=74) gets stuck...

Yes,

The trucks, jet fighters, heavy artillery and such are just support equipment, and that's what I'm sending for the whole competition, come whatever events may be held there.

Since a truck at a tank derby = "how do I suicide?"

And yeah, this is the de-facto OOC, so start up the IC hub/breakroom so we can show up and then get to work on a decent branch/mission/event intro.

Meg, you do know the IC is up, right?

Antigr, what exactly is going to be done as people arrive?
And why did you have to airlift your force into your own country?

Why secret? The whole point of such a display of military prowess is for it to be public.

So, besides just a tank-race, what else?

Firstly, how many events?
Secondly, what kind of events?

And I thought 50 people per nation was the cap for the entire olympic competition.

I also thought the breakroom would be the IC hub for interactions outside of the competition, but somewhere along the way to/from them.

Airlift 'cos it's actually a military base and grounds that I've used in a few RPs past...on an Antigran island somewhere.
Secret only in location, nothing else is secret. hey, put it down to officials being afraid someone will waltz in with a cherry bomb and destroy it.

Dunno, maybe because they'er franticly trying to invent 50 character bios in an attempt to win, thinking that it'll give them an advntage in the RP.

And neither is having the best tank-wank on the thread.

Which isn't really true...

Winning, at least OOCly, is making a quality RP with what you have, making sound tactical decisions, putting the thoughts onto E-paper, and accepting the losses that resault for the silliest of reasons, or handling when people don't grasp what you are trying to say your men are doing or if you believe they are overestimating their own capabilities (or underestimating yours).

What you send, without knowing exactly what to expect, that is, with what you consider a balanced force, can tell a lot about your RPing strengths, weaknesses, style, and strategy.

I just simply dug up survivors from some previous threads (generally a view of the chars I make that live through battles), added maybe 2 new guys to show the guys that generally don't make it out of the landing-craft, and called the rest 'filler'.

Greston gets random names easy, and fits them into a rigid heirarchy (mine is much more 'fluid'). And he apparently likes his infantry and air-force in large quantitues.

Meg is still a 'fresh slate' nation, meaning he can either invest money into all NS, partial NS, or just all RL weapons.

I don't remember Antigr's style...

Asgarnieu was a navy-air force fellow
Carb was something of a tank
Wanderjar loved his spec-ops, heh, they got stuck in a marsh...
TWSP does things the soviet way, spam spam and moar spam until either the enemy dies or you run out of troops... Or until he gets bored. He's learned some nasty mindgames though...
Leaf's posts invovle hats catching fire evey 10th post.
Blackhelm, the king of plot-twists
Undershi subjugates his victims to torture, shock, and awe, but can be easily overpowered by better shock+awe+surprise, mostly surprise.

That and they may have missed the link to the IC gallery...

"How much wood would wood chuck chuck he'd chuck as much wood as he could because he is a wood chuck"

*Crack Nuckles*
Allright...boys and girls of the Dynamic Revolutionary Olympic team, if you would kindly step on board this aging, yet highly safe c-47 we can be on our way.
*Plane labors into air*
*2 minutes later plane crashes, olymic team resorts to cannibalism to survive instead of just walking the 30 minute to get back to the airport*

Errrrr, right....I think I might have to pull outta this one....it seems my team has, well, eaten it's self...

"I remember when that happened to me. Aye it felt like yesterday. Me an me squad 'ere goin' off to 'Nam and sure as hell as it were we'se damned crashed. There be guts and bones and blood every 'ere that be true. I's had to fight off me ol' buddies with a ragged shoe I's stole from the dead, cold corpse of my pa. 'En I walked off and walked though those god foresaken 'Nam jungles. It wasn't till I came upon an ol' Micki Dees when I knew I forgot to take my penicillin dat 'ere monrin'."
