InterComm

The T.V. channels are all now carrying a single feed, from a space station orbiting Earth. Orbital Station InterComm1 has allowed for the first time news crews to board its fortress-like station. The feed is of Corporate CEO Maximus Axiom standing before a podium in what appears to be some sort of military uniform, bastardized from hundreds of years of English, French, and American military tradition.
He clears his throat and the room goes quiet.
"In this day and age of Nation States, it appears every body politic has decided to draw their own borders. Minority groups, artist communes, and rebel military factions simply need to find a flag and a plot of land to become a nation.
"In this day and age, we find ourselves limited in security and organization as the governmental orders that dictate our lives fail in even the simplest bureaucratic functions, and no one is held accountable.
"For decades InterComm has successfully maintained itself, other corporations, and even smaller nations as a private contractor. However, we shall not be doing so anymore. We, the stockholders, which includes all employees of InterComm, have voted. We, the people, men and women, of InterComm have decided to become our own nation on this space station we have built. We have now officially seceded from the United States of America to form our own more perfect union.
"We are now self-sufficient, with hydroponics bays, more solar energy than we need, and recycled hydration supplemented by shuttlecraft with moisture scoops that make regular visits to international waters to cull hydration.
"We will begin printing InterComm Dollarpounds - which we hope to make into a hard currency - and passports within the month. Thank you."
He walks off before any of the screaming reporters can ask him a single question.
