Imperium in Excelsis (OPEN | Government Change)

Pan-Arab Barronia

"Are you sure this is necessary?"
"Ma'am, I am positive. This needs to be done. Besides, it's entirely ceremonial."
"It goes against the tenets of this nation, this nation my father built..."
"With all respect, ma'am, times have changed. The populace is no longer happy with a Chancellorial government. They yearn for tradition, for a government that embraces the history of the nation, for a Defender of the Faith..."
"Absolutely not. I can live with the former idea, but "Defender of the Faith"? Absolutely, unequivocally, undisputedly no."
"Ma'am, it barely has to be a faith! Barronian Church of Christiani-"
"No. Final answer. I'm really yet to hear any decent case for the idea."
"Ma'am, I've explained it to you in the document you received. It's for the good of this country - imagine the effect that this historical regeneration could have!"
"A return to the dark days of the pre-revolutionaries?"
"No, ma'am, no. You'll recall the ceremonial aspect of this, you would effectively not change job description...merely have to wear different clothes once in a while."
"Give me some time to think about this. I'll put it in my next brief."
"Thankyou ma'am. I assure you, the nation will think all the better of you for it."

Breaking News: Barronia Returns to Monarchy; "Queen" Santina I Insists "Nothing Changes"

In a flurry of media speculation and ceremony, the Chancelloress Santina Bourbon-Clearwater-Kane has announced that, as of today, Barronia is officially a constitutional monarchy.

Announced during her annual Revolution's Anniversary Address, she, amongst other things, announced her intentions for Barronia to become a great nation as it was under British rule, reverting to the old customs and ways and "show[ing] the world that civilisation shows it's true self in Barronia".

More news as this develops.

Revolution's Anniversary Address

The Chancelloress appears in front of the camera, dressed in the female uniform for the magistrates. She clears her throat, before beginning.

"Ladies, Gentlemen, both citizens of the Magisterium and of nations overseas.

"This has been an eventful year for Barronia, as I'm sure you all well know. Colonial acquisition now means Barronia holds an all-time high quantity of citizens and territory united under the banner of the Magisterium. We have seen peace throughout the globe, ladies and gentlemen, where-ever our flag is found, and wherever the Imperial Constabulary insignia can be seen. My thanks, and that of the nation, goes out to those brave men and women who strive to ensure harmony within the empire.

"Our economy flourishes - Barronia's navy is now over 4,000,000 men strong, a large portion of our armed forces, and even better-equipped than before. Barronia is capable of handling whatever the world throws at it, though hopefully we never need use them in defence of the homeland. Truly, the greatest moment of the armed forces is when it can be disbanded in the name of peace; we hope that such a day can come, but there are some that will always stand in the way of peace - we look to the world, that they may further push for the ideals of co-operation and international harmony.

"The world has become a dangerous place since the time my father was administrating this fine nation. Since his death, we have seen nations torn apart; Barronia has gone to war on more than one occasion; the Theeb Accords have paved the way to the abolishment of slavery, which Barronia has proudly signed; NEATO, a treaty guaranteeing honourable warfare on the part of Barronia has been signed; and we have further showed the generosity of the human soul by taking the nation of Skamania and Duloc under our wing, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

"However, things are changing in Barronia. I have always endeavored to remain in touch with my fellow citizens, and it has come to my attention dissatisfaction with the structure of the nation. I will grant that our current system has never leant itself to the tradition this nation rightfully deserves, and that many of you yearn for the days when the British Empire held sway over our activities. The British Empire died long ago - but in it's place, a mightier Barronian Empire will rise. I have considered the opinions of my advisors, my ministers, and the public, and truly, it has been one of the hardest decisions I have had to make. The tenets of our society, over the social harmony that people wish to have?

"It is, therefore, that I have decided to put to the council the replacement of the Chancellory with that of a Royal Family, and all associated government agencies titles. Rest assured, the position will be maintained by myself, and my husband will assume a title befitting of his position, yet to be decided.

"I understand that this may not appeal to everyone; least of all the strong socialists among you. However, I can assure each and every one of you that this does not change any policy of Barronia - economic, social, or foreign. I give my promise to our comrades and friends in Wagdog, especially the Stewardess Friedrich - it pains me to make such a decision as to put myself above the level of the citizenry, but I have promised to follow the wills of my compatriots - Barronia will uphold the standard of non-exploitation of the working man and woman, and our policies will not change one iota.

"However, onward, as they say, and upward. To the future. Just what does it hold for Barronia? I alone cannot answer this question, nor can anyone. However, with our allies in UFAN, notably Vetaka and Wagdog, and the strength of our citizens, I believe that the future is bright for the empire - and hopefully, we may reach a point where the sun may never set upon it.

"Ladies, Gentlemen, both citizens of the Magisterium and of nations overseas - as we begin this new era of Barronia, I wish to say: Imperium in Excelsis."

The national anthem begins to play, and the camera fades to black.

OOC: So, it's essentially a switch from Chancelloress to Queen - new flag, new ministries, a far more Imperial aspect to my nation. The new flag, as ever, is in blue. The stars represent the Northern Crown, a constellation viewable (oddly enough) in the northern hemisphere, where the vast majority of Barronian colonies lie.

The stripes in shades of blue represent the various creeds and races of Barronia uniting together for the same cause - they stand out, yet are together.

None of my obligations shall change, alliances shall remain the same where-ever possible - I just wanted to inject something in my nation that I could relate to, quite frankly.
Skamania and Duloc

"Queen Santina? That would make my son a king...."

Watching his wife walking with her friends with a smile on his face, King Louis II was thinking about the developments in Barronia; he had recieved a report that Barronia was now a constitutional monarchy. Sitting beside him at the patio table was Maximillien Thenardier, the middle aged Foreign Minister of Skamania and Duloc. "I suppose I can celebrate my son's ascension to the Barronian throne; his wife has made herself the Queen of Barronia."

"I am sure that Sebastien is amazed to hear of the news; I do not think he expected the move from his wife at all. I do not think it is a threat or anything of that nature at all; it is simply a change of titles and nothing more."

Louis stood from his seat and asked Maximillien to follow him. As they walked into the Palace, Louis began talking about Barronia; keeping his calm composure. "Barronia is our closest ally, Maximillien. We must make sure that we keep our alliance with them."

Several minutes later, they were in the nursery room; where a nanny was playing with Princess Charlotte. Louis took the infant into his hands and smiled. "Look at her, Maximillien. She is my jewel....my good Charlotte. I think she will be my last child until further notice." Maximillien smiled as he listened to the infant cooing. "Sir, you are a good father; you should raise her well."

Later in the day, a letter arrived at the desk of Queen Santina; it was obviously from King Louis II of Skamania and Duloc:

"Dear Santina,

I have heard of your ascension to the newly founded Barronian throne as Queen Santina; shedding your former life as the Chancelloress. I think that it is an interesting and unexpected development; I am sure my son has similar thoughts. You should know that I see no problem in the change; as long as you continue to provide your nation with efficient government. Speaking of Barronia, I am hoping to visit with my wife one day and see the children of my son. My wife sends her regards to you and I wish you the best, my friend.

Sincerely,
Louis"

As the letter was sent, Louis II looked at the picture of his son embracing Santina at the wedding and smiled. "Traitez Santina bien, mon fils..."
