Shalrirorchia

OOC- The ongoing events IRL remind me that it is time to have another election.
President Shanu Aeri is the incumbent officeholder. She has been in office for four years after winning in a solid electoral victory in 2004. She succeeded the politically-popular, Democratic President Tarumigan Gistarai, who brought the old Republic of Shalrirorchia together into the United States of Shalrirorchia. Aeri's liberal social policies reflect her people...the Shalrirorchian people are moderately liberal.
Shalrirorchia, however, has entered a time of economic and diplomatic uncertainty following the war with Hataria and her allies. Times are tough, and the Shalrirorchian people are restless. The Democratic Party is being blamed for the downturn in Shalrirorchia's fortunes, and the Conservative Party has been quick to criticize the President's "interventionist" policy abroad. For the first time in nearly two decades, the sitting Democratic President (Aeri) appears to be vulnerable.
Enter the charismatic Senator Edward Wright, a rising star in the Conservative Party. Following President Gistarai's landslide in 2000 convinced many political observers that the Shalrirorchian Conservative Party was in a state of political torpor, and would not be a viable political force for many years to come. Wright, however, has rejuvenated the party with a hardline, conservative stand and charges that Aeri has allowed both Shalrirorchia's diplomatic and military muscle to atrophy. He easily won the primaries to become the SCP's nominee for President.
President Aeri has succeeded in fighting off an unexpectedly strong challenge from liberal Senator James Collins-Brennand to retain her status as the Democratic Party's leader and nominee. She now heads into the general election to face a surging Edward Wright.
Is anyone willing to play Edward Wright, journalistic commentators, or other interested powers?
