THE LIBERAVIC OBSERVER

Tobias Wilson was today officially sworn in as the President of The United Socialist States of Liberavic (herein reffered to as USSL) in an historic move that marks the end of a decade of bloody civil war in the country. President Wilson was a key leader in the Revolutionist Movement that fought hard to overthrow the corrupt and tyanneous reigime of Abdullah Musharraf that stretched over 6 nations. Musharraf's dictatorial leadership of these nations has been cut back over the last 12 months and was finally ended on the steps of the Liberavici Parliament today as the USSL, formed from 3 of the nations formerly under the dictator's rule, became the last to declare independence.

Formed from the former nations of Hylberta, Allia and Urian, the USSH holds strong pacifist and socialist values and is proud of its roots in a People's Revolution. President Wilson was almost unanimously elected by a popular vote with a remarkable 100% turnout after he served as a leader in the Revolutionist Movement against Musharraf and was seen as a figurehead of hope for millions of oppressed people.

After the Revolutionists in each of the three states voted to form the USSL there seemed to be only one person who would be fitting to take the stand as President and Tobias Wilson duly took that honour. He himself comes from Hylberta, whose capital Kyria will henceforth be the USSL capital, but has vowed to rule by popular consent with the best interests of everyone in the USSL at the heart of everything he does.

3 million people converged in Kyria today to witness the declaration of independence, an event that just 18 months ago seemed an impossible dream. The millions were crying tears of joy as the nations flag, an amalgamation of the flags of the three states with the Socialist red and gold prominent, was raised above Parliament and as President Wilson took to the stage to address the people he was met by an ovation lasting a full ten minutes.

"It is almost impossible to put into words what Tobias Wilson has done for this country and all its people and the hope that he gave us all through the darkest days of dictatorship", said one spectator summing up the mood of the entirity of the USSL. Wilson, who was regularly imprisoned and tortured by the Musharraf regime, declared that "This is an historic day not just for the people of our new nation but for people in general. We have shown in the face of unimaginable adversity what the strength of people can do and us being able to stand here today in the sunshine of a new dawn is testement to the power of the people. This nation will emerge from the dust and rise as a beacon of hope, democracy and true Socialism for all of the oppressed peoples of the world. From The People Comes The Revolution, From The Revolution Emerges The People."

President Wilson has named some of the members of his cabinet from the 250 Members of Parliament who all stood in support of the Wilson Presidency giving a unique situation of a completely democratic state with no official politcal parties. Wilson has announced that he will henceforth represent a Socialist Party of Liberavic (SPL) and has welcomed all politicians and citizens to join or form their own political parties.

The President also announced that the two official languages of the USSH would be English and French and that the state would be entirely secular. President Wilson has expressed his sincere hope that the international community will recognise the independence that the people of the USSL fought and lost so much for regardless of international political differences. He is also said to be looking to fellow Socialist and Communist states to pledge support to the USSL in an attempt to strengthen the left-wing community of states.

Um. As much as we support socialism, we believe that there is no way that 100% turnout can even feasibly be done, except if voting is mandatory, and even then, you always got the criminals who illegally choose not to vote.

We suspect fraud. I'm sad to say, but fraud is bad, bad, bad, and we condemn your President for committing election fraud, and hope that next election, he makes his election fraud less blatant.

Okay, condemnation done. The SilentScope Alliance of SilentScope Embassy, AfricanUnion, and SilentScope003 all pledge 'support' to your new country on its socialist path, but not pledging its support to their leader, Wilson. In fact, we are willing to provide development aid and allow for a temp. worker's agency, Servant Corps, to operate in your nation in order to help build your economy. We are very pro-socialist, and so we hope that you will succed in your goals.

***THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE USSL***

I appreciate the concerns of the SilentScope Embassy in election fraud. I would join them in their condemnation of electoral fraud across the globe and I can catagorically assure the international community that the election in the USSL was completely free, fair and transparent. I feel it is my duty to clear up any misunderstandings surrounding the figures and I would like to make clear that the official government figures for the turnout were 99.8%. I would like to take this opportunity to remind the international community that democracy has been stolen from the people of our nation by a decade of dictatorship and oppression and the chance to vote was seized upon with enthusiasm and great emotion.

That said, I would extend our welcome to any independent electoral monitors to visit the USSL to examine our electoral records and all of the results in the election as we believe in utter transparency in all democratic processes. It is my hope that, for the peace of mind of the international community and the people of ther USSL, this invitation will be accepted.

Yours In Peace and Solidarity,

President Tobias Wilson

WILSON CALLS FOR ELECTORAL TRANSPARENCY

President Wilson has today called for complete electoral transparency across the USSL in the wake of concerns of election fraud from the international community. Wilson, who maintains democracy is at the core of his beliefs, has demanded every candidate who was recently elected to the Parliament of the USSL hands their election documents and the voting records of their constituencies to him by the end of the week. A statement from the President's office said that 'Honesty and democracy are at the heart of what we believe and I feel that to have any doubt at all over the outcome of the election would be damaging and devaluing everything that we have all fought so hard and suffered so much for over recent years'.

Wilson is said to be keen to hand the election materials to independent observers as soon as possible and has, we are informed, been making enquires with nearby Governments to help ensure that all is as it seems although it is understood that no such team has yet arrived in Kyria.

"We recognize your nation and its new President. Your story is very much like Honako's, we were once too ruled by an oppressive dictator, freeing ourselves from his reign that killed millions and made slavery oh so relied on by our country, and replaced with the left-leaning strong pacifist Mrs Parkins as our leader. But so many countries are formed in that way it seems. Our nation believes that we could get on very well with your own, and as such would like to nurture you and your growth, and therefore the state-owned Honako Mining Corps., a subsidiary of the Hoen Corporation for the Development of Honako, would like to enquire as to whether there are supplies of metals, especially iron, steel and precious metals, that our country can mine and purchase off your nation, investing in factories, the lives of your people and helping keep people out of unemployment in this most difficult time - the transitional period after a nation is newly formed. Honako’s manufacturing industry is not economically viable especially anymore, so we are looking for alternatives. If not, we wish you luck in your journey in the international community and hope to improve relations in other ways."

Message from the Armed Republic of Greater Headhunters to the United Socialist States of Liberavic

I, Kaiser Karl Von Donau-Schwob does recognize Liberavic as a sovereign state, but I do not support the policies of President Tobias Wilson. My people find socialism very nearly backwards, because it is another step on the road to communism. Left-wing and right-wing policies must be used in moderation to achieve a balanced equiblerum. Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country, to qoute one of the more famous American Presidents. Now that I have said my piece, I will get off my soapbox and stop preaching. I wish President Wilson the best of luck in forming his country into a world powerhouse. May you have peace and prosperity in your term in office.

Until we meet again,
Kaiser Karl Von Donau-Schwob, Lord of the Uranium Isles etc.

OOC: No hard feelings dude, just playing in character. :D

Official Letter of Recognition from the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Federation of Velkya

On behalf of the free world, the Velkyan Federation and her five billion proud citizens welcome the United Socialist States of Liberavic into the community of democratic and sovereign nations, and congratulate both the people of Liberavic and their newly elected President Tobias Wilson on their triumph over the tyranny of military dictatorship. While we ourselves are neither a socialist nor revolutionary power, we applaud the impressive efforts of the Liberavican people in their efforts to establish true democracy, and foresee great things to come from such a determined and enlightened people.

But, of course, such diplomatic recognition as that of which we bestow on you is intangible, and is little more than a brightly colored letterhead. It is with this in mind that the Federation formally offers an exchange of diplomatic embassies and consulates with the United Socialist States of Liberavic, as well as a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between our two great unions in order to facilitate the development and maturation of Liberavic into a great nation in its own right.

Of course, this request is voluntary. Should you decline the offer, the Federation will recognize it as the decision of a sovereign nation. We eagerly await your response.

[Signed, Alexis Shrodder, Foreign Minister of the Federation of Velkya]
