The Realm of Cotland
Brief Overview and Summary

The Realm of Cotland is a massive, safe nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5.500 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Education and Healthcare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 25%.

Phone taps are frequently carried out by the police, radio shows frequently feature people denouncing religion, televangelists flaunt their expensive cars when they attend charity events, and pharmacies close down as medicinal drugs are sold freely by the government. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Cotland's national animal is the Lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Rikskrone.

The Military Districts

The Royal Cottish Military is the organization whose task it is to defend the Realm and its interests. For this purpose, the Military has organized into three Military Districts, each covering roughly one third of the territory of the Realm. The Military Districts are the second highest tier in the Cottish military organization, second only to the High Command and the Ministry for the Defense of the Realm, and is a quad-service command, comprising personnel from both the Army, Navy, Air Force and Space Force. Each Military District is commanded by a flag officer with a rank of either General (Army, Air Force, Space Force) or Admiral (Navy), who answer directly to the High Command.

The three Military Districts are as follows:
Military District North (MD North)
Military District Southwest (MD SouthWest)
Military District Southeast (MD SouthEast)

Military District North

Military District North is primarily responsible for the forces stationed in the North of the country, at the border with Nuclearum (Doomingsland) and the northwestern border with The People's Freedom, as well as the defense of the capital city of Eeobroht.

MD North is responsible for 2.5 million men from the Royal Cottish Army, divided into ten Field Armies of various types, including two Field Armies optimised for coastal defense, five independent Jegerbrigades (Ranger Brigades), and the King's personal bodyguard unit, Hans Majestet Kongens Garde (His Majesty the King's Guard), as well as assorted support units such as supply and repair depots, educational facilities and other support units. MD North is also the home of the Royal Cottish Navy's primary bases and other facilities. A total of 3.5 million men from the Royal Cottish Navy are stationed in Military District North. The Royal Cottish Air Force is by far the largest branch of the Royal Cottish Military, and Military District North is the home of 5 million men from the Air Force. The Royal Cottish Space Force also have a number of bases in MD North, and 1.5 million men from this branch also refer to Military District North as home.

In total, 12.5 million men and women of the Royal Cottish Military fall under the operational command and control of Military District North. Of these, some 45 % are conscripts carrying out their National Service duty. In the event of war, the forces attached to Military District North can be bolstered with an additional 4 million reservists from the Army Reserve, 1.5 million men from the Naval Reserve and 2 million reservists from the Air Force Reserve, giving the Military District Commander an additional 7.5 million men under arms to employ in the defense of the Realm.

Military District Southwest

Military District Southwest is the largest of the three Military Districts in Cotland, and is responsible for the operational control of the forces stationed in the southwest of the country, at the southwestern border with and the bulk of the border with Rosdivan.

Operating under its banner, MD Southwest has the bulk of the Royal Cottish Army, 3.5 million men, divided into thirteen Mechanized Field Armies, three Light Field Armies and two Parachute Field Armies, as well as eight independent Ranger Brigades. A number of educational facilities and other support facilities are also located in MD Southwest, as well as the Army's principal training centres and weapons ranges. Due to MD Southwest being landlocked, the Royal Cottish Navy has no presence in this Military District. The Royal Cottish Air Force, on the other hand, has a significant presence here. 10 million men from the Royal Cottish Air Force are stationed here, including the Flight Training Schools and the bulk of Strategic Aviation Command's bases and ammunition storages, while the Space Force has some 2 million men stationed there.

In total, Military District Southwest has 15.5 million men under its operational control. Again, some 45 % are conscripts doing their national service. In the event of war, Military District Southwest can be bolstered with up to 5 million men from the Army Reserve and 5 million men from the Air Force Reserve, giving an additional 10 million men under arms for the Military District Commander to use.

Military District Southeast

Military District Southeast is located in the southeastern part of Cotland, and is responsible for all military forces stationed here, which constitutes parts of the border with Rosdivan and the border with San Nereiana (Alleana).

As far as the Army goes, MD Southeast has a total of 2.5 million men and women stationed there, divided into seven Mechanized Field Armies, three Light Field Armies, one Parachute Armies and two Coastal Armies, as well as four independent Ranger Brigades and a number of support units and facilities. The Royal Cottish Navy has a total of 4 million men and women stationed there. The Royal Cottish Air Force has 5 million men stationed in MD Southeast, and the Space Force has 1.5 million men stationed there.

The total amount of men and women stationed in Military District Southeast even out at 13 million. Again, roughly 45 % of the personnel are conscripts doing their mandatory 24-month National Service. In the event of war, the amount of uniformed personnel can be bolstered with an additional 4 million reservists from the Army Reserve, 2 million men from the Naval Reserve and 5 million men from the Air Force Reserve, giving the reservist forces a total manpower strength of 11 million men.

Cottish Forces Korangar

Additionally, the Royal Cottish Military has a presence at the newly founded colony of Korangar, where two Field Armies and a Ranger Brigade of the Royal Cottish Army, totalling at 220 000 men, are tasked with the defense of the rather large island. The Royal Cottish Navy is in the process of establishing a resupply base there, and will have around 100 000 men and women stationed there, while the Royal Cottish Air Force will have the largest personnel contingient there, with 470 000 airmen stationed. Meanwhile, the Space Force will have the smallest contingient of 30 000 men, most of them assigned to the Air Defense Network the Royal Cottish Military is establishing there. The Cottish Forces on Korangar will be controlled by a quad-service command with personnel from both the Army, Navy, Air Force and Space Force, and will be under the command of a Lieutenant General (Army, Air Force, Space Force) or a Vice Admiral (Navy).

Summary

All in all, the personnel numbers for the forces can be broken down as listed here:

Royal Cottish Army: 8.72 million (4.50 million conscripts)
Royal Cottish Navy: 7.60 million (3.00 million conscripts)
Royal Cottish Air Force: 20.47 million (7.50 million conscripts)
Royal Cottish Space Force: 5.03 million (2.50 million conscripts)

In total, the Royal Cottish Military has a standing peacetime force of 41.82 million men and women, of which 17.5 million are conscripts serving their two-year National Service. With a population of 5.5 billion people in Cotland, this makes the peacetime military percentage a mere 0.76 % of the total population.

Royal Cottish Army Reserve: 13.00 million
Royal Cottish Navy Reserve: 3.50 million
Royal Cottish Air Force Reserve: 12.00 million

The Reservist Force consists of a total of 28.5 million men and women. This force alone makes up 0.52 % of the total Cottish population, but when added to the Regular Forces, the total percentage of the Cottish population who proudly wears the uniform of the Royal Cottish Military increases to 1.28 %. Volunteers and wartime emergency conscripts are not included in this figure.
