The figures sat inside a dark room, light only a small candle resting in the center of the table. They all wore black robes and hoods, and carried onyx daggers.
"We must solve this conundrum once and for all."

At the edge of the Xiscapian Systems...
A group of 5 frigates and 3 light cruisers drifted. On board, the crews all kept completely silent. They were all members of a relatively powerful cult, based off the Void's official religion. The cult believed in a pure human universe and attempted to exterminate any so-called 'mutants'. The shipmaster of the fleet spoke over the intercom.

"All ships, power weapons. We begin."

In response, the lead cruiser loosed a Sunkiller torpedo at the station. The ships then broke up, the frigates becoming quick wolf packs, while the cruisers rail guns charged up to fire.

"Attack them! Don't let up!"

"What is it?"
"We have detected power signitures from eight vessals on the edge of the system. Weapons power-up. Their signitures and design suggest them to be of Templarian origin."
"Have they tried any contact at all?"
"No. They seem to be trying to enter the system unobserved."

Vist was infamous for her brutality. If she took prisoners, it was only to pump them for information and then execute them. Xiscapians, as a whole, are a preaceful people. This one was not. She was a bitter, angry, loyal kitsune, and she had vowed many years ago to make all of Xiscapia's enemies pay. And so far, she had succeeded admirably.
A message was sent to the leading vessal as the system defenses powered up.

The station, as it were, was small, a orbital defense outpost really. Already ships were being lauched, two corvettes and a battlecruiser was all they could spare. However, the static and not-so-static defenses would insure that the hostile ships would not be able to get close to the planet.

The Sunkiller torpedo was destroyed in a firey explosion as a laser beam came out to meet if far from the station. The two quick corvettes stayed close together and began firing their turbolasers and missiles, sniping, as it were, at the enemy ships. The Wasp class cruiser was somewhat behind, but would be in range soon.

The cruisers rail guns shot rounds at the corvettes, accelerated from Mass Effect fields. The frigates sped past the corvettes, then turned around and began firing at them from the rear.

The incoming fire simply bounced off the corvettes shields, making very little effect. It was a foolish, deadly move the frigates made. As soon as they were past the corvettes, they were in range of the cruiser's guns. And Wasp class cruisers are made specifically to destroy small craft. They were targeted by no less than fourty AS guns, powerful anti-air weapons which spat lasers at an alarming rate. Also a full MAC cannon fired a round at the distant cruiser firing on the corvettes. Finally, two of the frigates were targeted by the Light guns, which had been proven to deplete shields and slice ships of patrol, friagte, and corvette size in half. Controlled by A.I. targeting, they had no problem locking on to the nearest two frigates and firing, deadly white beams of energy. The corvettes themselves also fired on the frigates with their weapons for all the good it would do.

The frigates launched missiles at the corvettes, then fled away from the cruiser, bar the two who were being fired on. The rerouted all energy, even from lifesupport, into engines and shields then went for suicide runs on the cruiser, firing missiles. The frigate's drive cores, when overloaded, would become potent plasma bombs, capable of frying ships internal systems.

The missiles impacted, rocking the little corvette ships and moderatly damaging their shields. The missiles didn't even scratch the cruiser, but the frigates would. The point-defenses treated the two incoming ships was missiles and intensified it's firing, concentrating all fire on the two incoming vessals. The corvettes fired after the fleeing frigates, missiles and laser bent of destruction.

One frigate charging the cruiser exploded, disabling the other frigate and knocking it off course. It was still on course, however, to hit the cruiser.

A frigate was shot down, but the rest were only injured. The two corvettes had stumbled into a trap. The frigates broke formation and the the cruisers fired their Sentinel lasers at them. The beams were difficult to dodge, but only did damage to shields and drained heavily on the cruisers power. The frigates then opened fire with their rear cannons.

The damage to the cruiser was minimal thanks to the thick shielding, and the area where the suicide frigate had struck was mostly armor. The cruiser moved forward at a rapid pace, firing on the opposing frigates with it's Light guns and AS guns. The Heavy guns and MAC cannon fired from long range at the cruiser. The enemy cruisers apparently had more range than they had shown and fired on the corvettes, which hadn't moved at all. The rear cannons slammed into the forward shields, making them flicker and spark. Finally the beams came towards them. The first corvette was slammed and spun across space, shields down, minimal damage but the crew was confused and hanging on for dear life. The other corvette rerouted power from the engines to the shields and took the hit, but the shields were down below twenty percent. It fled to hide behind the cruiser. Unexpectedly from below came up a squadren of five Light Assault Mechs, or LAM. These were deadly to small craft, fast-moving and equipped with powerful weapons which could ripe apart even thick armor. Three latched onto the cruiser which had not taken part in the action yet, and the other two latched onto the third cruiser. They used their railguns, beam cannons, and energy swords to rip though armor, bypassing the shields like they weren't even there.

The cruiser took damage from the LAM's, and the frigates diverted and moved to attack them. The cruisers, meanwhile, continued steady fire upon the enemy, firing shot after shot into the corvettes, while the other fired closed and fired sentinel beams at the Wasp-class.

The LAM broke off boring though the armor to dogfight the frigates. This is what they were made for, to terrify anything smaller than a cruiser and to crush infantry and tanks alike. In this case, two frigates vs. five LAM. The railguns spat at the frigates, and the LAM fired their cannons in a pattern known as the Limited Barrage. One shot would force the ship to divert, as would another and another until it moved to divert from the last shot only to find that the last LAM had been calmly tracking it and that the shot was on-target. The first corvette broke apart into three or so peices, flames dancing at the break points. Escape pods were being lauched to be picked up by friendly ships or to seek out the nearest inhabitable planet. The other corvette was saftly out of range and used it's turbolaser batteries and missiles to snipe at the cruisers from long range. The Battlecruiser seemed to be unaffected by the Sentinel beams and kept up the fire, with the return fire being absorbed into the shields. At the moment less than ten percent of the shields were gone, and the cruiser strode determindly forward, closing the gap with the enemy.

The cruisers suddenly ceased sentinel lasers, and swapped to hard explosive tipped tungsten rounds. These were designed to bypass shields, at least until the frequency was adapted, and do damage directly to the hull. The frigates, meanwhile, attempted evasive maneuvers while their small bottom and top turrets fired weak lasers at the LAM's as all the power was being diverted to engines and shields.

The rounds did considerably more damage to the cruiser than the beams had. The hull integrity was weakened significantly but the cruiser kept coming, with techs working feverishly inside the adapt the shields to stop the rounds rather than the hull. The LAM were barely hurt by the lasers and came out after the frigates with their laser swords, moving fast and unpredictablely towards their target until their sword peirced the frigate's shields and literally ripped the armor apart. The cruiser kept up the fire, surely the enemy cruisers were hurting by now?

One cruiser's rail gun detonated, making a chain of explosions from the end of the barrel to the cockpit, making a small hole in the shields. The cruiser then turned, attempting to hide the hole. It also launched four small nuclear missiles at the LAM's.

The LAM took advantage of the situation, to swing around the side. Two entered the hole, but they had not been expecting the mini nukes. Three of the missiles were shot down by their railguns, but the fourth impacted and destroyed two LAM in a firey explosion, wiping them completly from space. The third LAM hung onto the side of the cruiser next to the hole as the other two entered and the cruiser shuddered under fire. The wreckage of the frigates floated into veiw, but there was still two more of them out there somewhere. The LAM smashed their way into the interior of the ship, small enough to get though the halls but large enough crash their way though where they couldn't fit. LAM were really more like extended power suits than anything else, and it was nearly impossible for infantry to destroy them, save by a rocket laucher. And only an idiot or a insane person would fire a missile inside a breached ship. The LAM were looking for the bridge, casually smashing, blasting, slashing or melting their way though without any regard for bunkheads, doors, security systems, decks or human life.

"Place limpet charges." A group of men carrying EMP charges and heavy duty explosives placed them around the main entrance to the rear power generator. "Ok, fall back. When that door opens, the men inside will fire EMP blasts at the LAM's. That should fry their systems long enough for our charges to get to them."

The charges, blending in perfectly with the shadows, heat and color of the ship. It would be invisible to the LAM's until it was too late. They crawled on the ceiling, drills at the ready.

"Blue Two this is Blue Leader, what do you make of that, over?"
"Blue Leader this is Blue Two, I suggest caution. My scanners are registering waiting heat patterns in the room. Over."

"Copy that Blue Two, open fire on that door."
"Roger. Opening fire now."
The two LAM stood side-by-side and their total of eight railguns spat lead at the door, powerful enough to shoot straight though the door to splatter whoever was on the other side. They also hefted their beam cannons and fired them, which had enough power to blow the door in completly. The LAM didn't even need to enter the room to destroy it, and the heat signitures of the men waiting inside only gave them away.

"Shi..!" The men were blasted away instantly but the men remained fine. The emergency systems kicked in and a weak internal shield kicked in, blocking the main power generator from fire. The small drones hopped off the roof and skittered towards the main generator. They leapt onto the generator and detonated.

The ship detonated, throwing chunks of metal into space, hurtling in every direction.

They had lost every LAM, and a corvette, but the enemy had lost all five of it's frigates and a light cruiser. Another seemed to be damaged, and the Wasp class was barely scratched. It sent another round of fire at the second light cruiser. If it had to pummel the ships all day with it's guns it would. The corvette retreated now, worse than useless against the cruisers. Out of no where a Destroyer emerged, part of the basic system defenses. At that moment a inhibitator field came down over the system, shutting down hyperdrives, warp drives, gates, jump portals, slipspace generators, and all other means of FTL travel. Subspace engines were unaffected, but the enemy would not be able to escape. The destroyer was considerably more powerful than the cruiser, and came in with Heavy guns, powerful enough to punch a large hole though a moon. Not so effective against shields, the Ion cannons opened fire to deal system damage to make way for the Heavy Guns. The second cruiser had two ships focusing on it now.
