Breakthrough Elections in the NTC

The New True Cross
10-02-2008, 19:21
Last Friday a national election was held in the Holy Empire of The New True Cross. The final votes have been counted and in a landslide election Elect Rev. Alexander Cheshire Mason XXVIII was elected Supreme Elect of the Holy Empire of The New True Cross. The 37 year old Puritan minister is the youngest candidate ever to be elected Supreme Elect. His wife Constance (Underhill) Mason was seen with a very large smile after the couple heard the news. Their four sons Alexander, William, Charles, Grantham and two daughters Bridgette and Elizabeth were also present when the news broke. After an inaugural church service led by the Elect Rev. Dr. William Chatham, Mason gave a speech to which 4 million attended and 500 million watched on T.V. or listened to on the radio.
"My fellow citizens, this is the dawning of a new age. We are a nation of piety and strength, of hard work and overflowing reward. We have reached a time of unprecedented economic strength, the likes of which we have never before, in our history, paralleled. For that we owe Elect Standish our everlasting gratitude. With this economic prosperity we shall look towards a bright future. Our borders are safe, and so are our streets. God has looked kindly on us this day and we shall forever prosper in his glory. The people of this nation have spoken and they have been heard. Let no man come between this nation and the Almighty God who gives us life and prosperity. Let no temptation lead us astray. We will be a people freed from the declarations of other nations looking to subject us to their will. We will welcome the learning from all over the globe and share with others our knowledge so that we may grow stronger in that knowledge, because knowledge is the way to God's everlasting love. I declare from now on that this nation will no longer be ruled by the rich and powerful but will be a national congregation. As such we will no longer be a Holy Empire steeped in the bureaucracy of yesterday but The National Congregation of The New True Cross where all citizens will be given the right to vote, to own land, to practice their faith, pursue their dreams, and feel safe. We shall open our borders to business and close it to illegal aliens. We shall give every unregistered person one year to apply for citizenship or they will be asked to leave. We shall prove to the world that we have what it takes to tackle hardship and pain. We shall show to ourselves that we are worthy of God's eternal salvation!"
The speech was met with approval all over the country. Some minority leaders have already stepped up and publicly reminded Mason's Congregational Republican Party, that they should not forget all of those none-Puritans, whom Mason promised would not be left behind. CRP spokesperson Elect Charles Lawford said they would not be left out and that the groups had already formed lobbies, which the government would recognize.
The declaration denounced the legislative body and promises the people the direct voting rights they have been asking for, for years. That body will meet in two weeks time and is expected to try and fight the statement, but the Supreme Elect is expected to have given the vote to the people by that time and it seems unlikely that they will give it up. The Ministry of Divine Justice supported the decision, and it is expected that it will be kept in place. The other Ministries are quiet as they wait for a decision over a bill that will give the people the right to remove an state officer or other government paid employee with an 80% popular vote. An unnamed member of the government called it "Communism in the making" and said "Mason will bury this country with his socialist rhetoric." The military and law enforcement agencies are in support of the new Supreme Elect, which comes as no surprise pending a continued increase in spending in both of those departments. The Puritan ministry is exploding with excitement, while as mentioned earlier, other religious and non-religious groups will remain wary until the religious freedoms Mason promises are enacted.
The Supreme Elect and his family are expected to move out of their country estate into the capital in the next few days and there will be a large welcome to greet them. Mason's predecessor will lead the ceremonies and is expected to throw his support behind the new leader. Standish is supposedly pleased with this election and sees it as an opportunity to govern the country in a way he could only dream. He was unable to be reached, when we called and asked from a comment.
