I was thinking, we could do a Napoleonic Era war RP here, using our populations in NationStates.

I do have to think of a location for the war.

There are 2 alliances. The Empire Alliance or the Confederate Alliance.

A Timeline of the Indonesian States' history during the Napoleanic Era
(Taken from the 'Indonesian States Factbook')

1803-1805: Great Britain, eager to capture the Spice Islands in Indonesia, declares war on the Indonesian States. Eventually, the British, trapped in the mountains, surrender.

I like all, but considering Napoleon in RL did invade Egypt, #1 would give a good feel to the the RP. #3 would be cool, with the whole colonial feel about it, a little after Napoleon's time, however. And #5 could be just plain fun.
I think a war in the in the Ohio, Mississippi, and Missouri basins of America could be cool.

That sounds fun, kinda goes along with 3, but remember some of us want land battles, too. Wouldn't be averse to some naval conflicts in Asia. I'm already in the Caribbean Pirates RP, so I think something new would be cool.

So, I guess #3 wins? there is land in south asia you know, not only the sea. To tell the truth, I like #4 the best, but #3 can be just as fun. One thing: Land battles would be hard since most of South Asia is mostly in rainforest. 1764: Spain ceded control of Philippines to Britain, UK teached Philippines education, arts, culture, banks, etc

1789: Spanish attempts a reconquest, Britain-backed Philippine Armed Forces repeled the Invasion

1810: Britain grants Philippines its own Government, recognizes its sovereignity, but UK observes Philippines closely,

to tell the truth, there are a hell of alot of republics in this RP for this era. but... I shouldn't be talking, cause the Indonesian States has been a republic since 740CE. One question: would this affect our nation in MT?

I might be interested in joining in, too, but I'd like to see a few questions answered first:

1. Which other nations, apart from Britain and Spain, must exist -- even if nobody is roleplaying as them -- because they featured in the histories of the nations that are being roleplayed.

2. Aren't the population figures ridiculously high for that period?
(I'd suggest dividing all of them by 50...)

3. Will any concern be paid to logistics, and to the distribution of natural resources?

If I do join in then the nation that I'd like to use would be Godwinnia (http://www.nationstates.net/godwinnia), whose original territories are a cluster of large islands -- that don't exist on the RL Earth -- a couple of hundred miles to the west of Ireland.

Ah, I see. I'd got the impression (from various other posts) that the setting was going to be an Earth, rather than a specially-created map.

I think we should all divide our populations by 50 and also finding the size of our Armies.

I think a little more detail is needed for each Army:

Types of Army:
Professional: - Much smaller but better trained with higher morale

Conscript: - Massive Armies but less training and lower morale

Semi-Professional: - Militia

I would like to say my Army is Professional and that it numbers 1,700,000 Troops

And they do a bit but they do let you create custom uniforms from mixing and matching.

There were no real rifles in the 19th Century
(Well, there was, but they were so slow loading (3 Musket shots to one Rifle) That no one bothered to equip more than a small part of their armies with them. And they were much more difficult to maintain and clean and the like.

Yours is fine, but (IMO) kinda small. Mine allows for all sorts of crazy colonies and stuff, if people want to use it.
Perhaps yours could be used as a local map for somewhere?

Anyway, you could make a nation based on Indonesia on one of the island chains that're all over that map. A little more creativity'd be requried, but hey, thats half the fun :P

Also, unless anybody has objections, I'd be happy to start putting nations on the map. Some sort of basic description of what you'd like, or at least a 'France-sized blob somewhere or other' sort of description would be nice.

Just for clarity, we'll say that the environment roughly corrisponds with that of RL Earth at each location. Although Siberia (obviously) is going to be somewhat more temperate since more of it is further south and there's a large body of water in the middle of it.

Also, remember, larger nations arent always better. A bigger nation means more logistical issues. Having a huge overseas empire, like the British, means the majority of your budget is going to go into your navy.
And so on.

Basically, just keep in mind the sort of nation youre trying to make.
