The Black Flag War [OPEN]

Vincent just didn't see it coming. The blast occurred at 1:03 on a slightly rainy Sunday afternoon. The cobblestone was well-worn from a morning's walk to church, and greeted the worshipers wearily as they left the cathedral. The crowd walked as one down the sloping Main Street, an assortment of gossiping mothers, playing children, and the ever-grumbling fathers who kept to themselves under their bowler hats. The distant hills hid behind a fog like shy newcomers, peeking down at the classical town that spilled into their lap. As the young adults gravitated towards the coffee shops, the children to the candy shops, and the mothers towards the knitting shops, it was a pleasant mix of voices and small-town sounds. And then amongst the many voices there was one very, very strong. C4 is naturally always louder than the rest.

The explosion tore like a delirious beast a gaping hole in what used to be a quite recognizable spot. The town college had disappeared, and in its place was a bloody mess of stone and wood, injured onlookers gasping for breath in between howls and screams. Vincent, who had only minutes before exited the building for lunch (he was too 'sophisticated' for Church), stood, books clutched against his chest, in complete shell-shock. Partial corpses were thrown about, like unassembled toys, unrecognizable in their damage. Screeching through the narrow streets came the unprepared doctor and his entourage of nurses, the worst cases being rushed to him by the only rescue authority - the townspeople.

Vincent found himself lifting stone that had hours before surrounded him as walls, and tossing it to the side. No questions came to him. There was no why - no how, or when - no who. Not yet.

The above account was written by Vincent Drasby, a third-person entry into his own diary the night after the Hewston College Bombing. It was one of the deadliest incidents on what became known as Black Flag Day - September 13. On that Sunday, a string of violent attacks rocked the country of Cavanah. Known for its corruption, the government had become victim to increasingly harsh criticism from its neighbors and its people. The week before Black Flag Day, bomb threats had been delivered to various government offices around the country. They were virtually ignored.

Then, as the weekend ended, over twenty ambushes, bombings, and assassinations took place. 200 civilians, 50 soldiers, 20 vehicles, and 10 buildings were either destroyed or killed in attacks initiated by a group called the "Black Flag Brigade", an extremist organization founded upon a specific, anti-Capitalist ideology - Anarcho-syndicalism.

The corruption of the Cavanah Government had become so entrenched that it had sent over three quarters of the population reeling under the poverty line, taxing them extensively and returning an estimated 40 percent of the money to the public in any form. The rest was kept by a conspiracy of greedy politicians for themselves and for causes that they specifically deemed fit.

This resulted in a huge fault line in the public's mood. A large percentage of the people had begun to sympathize with a growing violent, anti-Government movement, and Black Flag Day marked the overflowing of these feelings.

But it did not resemble any ideological revolution. It had dropped any former masquerade and now was quite clearly a civil war. The violent portion of the population had rallied under the Black Flag Brigade's anti-Capitalist lead and organized into a serious, fast-growing, mysteriously funded militia. The rest of the population, which was either terrified or skeptical of the Black Flag Group, splintered into various resistance forces. If they didn't join up - they fled into hiding. The government's army had fallen apart as the top ten generals and the President had been assassinated, and the equipment, which included a under stocked range of helicopters, tanks, jeeps, a tiny navy, fighter jets and guns, was being seized by the various militias.
The Black Flag War had begun.

OOC
I hope this isn't too confusing. Basically, I'll be roleplaying the various militia groups, and ya'll other countries have a lot of options as how you want to be involved. You country can view this as a chance to send your army in an take over the land of Cavanah. You can see this has a chance to support your chosen militia, hoping that they'll seize power and become a puppet state of your regime. You can just send money flowing into the organization that seems most moral to you. You can send rescue workers to help the refugees. Anything. The country, which kind of resembles Germany's history, France's weather, England's weather, and Montenegro's topography, is in complete turmoil. It has one 100-mile coast that you can use to land equipment on, and its three major cities - Worburg (capital), Aston (port), and Svolt (industrial) all have huge airports.

The following are the major political groups and militias:

The Black Flag Brigade: Anarcho-Syndicalism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-syndicalism) An estimated 50,000 membership - growing fast. Pretty Anarchist, and seizing a large amount of military equipment. Has killed 200 civilians and counting (one day into the war).

The Red Victory Front: The second largest militia group, with an estimated 40,000 person force, subscribes to the purest form of Communism. Has near-complete control of Aston, and therefore most of the Naval equipment.

The National Resistance Forces: A militia force of over 25,000 men and women that supports a democratic, capitalist society. Although it has managed to scavenge a good portion of the leftover military equipment, it has little traction with the unaligned population who have become to thoroughly distrust the word "capitalist" thanks to underground Black Flag propaganda.

The De Luca Family: The biggest and richest crime group in the country, it lures in loyal members with luxurious benefits. Around 5,000 operatives along with a strong foothold amongst the population due to good PR policy.

If you want you can name your own militia, but it can't be larger than 10,000 men. If you roleplay well with it, I'll give you perks. Please have fun.

And finally, I beg of you, no mega-super-duper superpower invasions. That would just end the fun way to quickly. Besides, you may find yourself facing a unified group of militias who hate the invaders. Cheers.

Day 1
4:36 PM, Monday, September 14th.

William de Troy ran as fast as he could through the tall grass, his sweating right palm clutching with dear life to an elegant Beretta revolver. The crack of rifles rang out behind him, sending their bullets at his back. He felt their heat over his shoulders and their wind in between his arms, but he wasn't going to surrender. He wasn't going to die. The crack down had been slightly more sophisticated than the town had anticipated, and the sight of tanks rolling down their tree-lined avenue struck down the high morale of the people.

Of course, aiding the Black Flag wasn't exactly legal. Somehow, the meager army of Cavanah, lacking both leadership and equipment, had fingered the location of the Brigade chapter that poor William belonged to. Run by a bunch of idealistic school boys with slightly twisted minds, the operation in the basement of 28 Jericho Lane had been discovered. But it wasn't before their little movement had infiltrated the town's council, watch, and budget. The weapon that William now kept his life with was paid for by his neighbor's taxes.

But that didn't matter now. The army jeeps mattered. The approaching fence at the field's border with the forest mattered. The soldiers mattered. And then William had a reason to be happy. Emerging from the woods' cedars came his loyal comrades, clutching their .22s and their home-made hand grenades. They fired past him, 13 strong, into the field. The cries of the soldiers rose with the crows on the crabapple tree. Not bothering to stop, de Troy cleared the rotting wooden fence and skidded to a halt with his men, wheeling around a firing into the field, the blam of his revolver echoing throughout the field.

Skirmishes like this began on Day 1 all over the country. In dank basements, various orders and militias were forged into existence. Above ground, brothers clashed with brothers, schoolboys dropped their books and picked up their guns, farmers seized the pitchforks, and the capital slowly crumbled.

Vorob'inye, a frigate of the Krendian Red Army Naval Force, cut through the steely waves off the coast of Cavanah. As its crew went about their daily business of keeping the ship clean and in working order, the captain had to decide where to get fuel from, the ship was an older Krendian design, and as such lacked the nuclear engines outfitted to larger and newer ships. Although still a competent force in her own right, Vorob'inye had to stop for fuel, unlike her contemporary counterparts. And so, the captain and the rest of the officers were inspecting a map of the area, looking for a good place to refuel.

The area happened to lack a good site for a military ship to refuel, apart from a small port in the nation of Cavanah. It was deemed that this would be the best option, and a course was set for there. As the ship drew close to the port, they communications officer attempted to hail the coast guard and port authority, but received no reply, only static. The Captain found this surprising, and indeed worrying, and so he issued a command to put all men on combat stations and to slow down. Men rushed about to their stations as the engines powered down from their usual throb to a dull hum.

And so, Vorob'inye crept beyond the harbour wall into the tranquil waters of the port in Aston with men manning all the guns, and a platoon of marines at the ready. As they entered, they were astonished to find that the Cavanah flag that had appeared in their information regarding the nation was not flying, but instead flew a red flag emblazoned with a gold hammer and sickle. Confusion set in amongst the men, and the spoke to each other in hushed voices about what this could mean. The whole dockyard was quiet except for the noise of Vorob'inye.

As she came up to the quay-side, a few sailors jumped across onto the dock itself and, under the watchful eyes of the marines, tied Vorob'inye up. The gang-way was lowered, and the Captain, accompanied by a squad of marines, walked onto the quay-side. It was a queer situation, and the marines, unsure of what was going to happen next, held their rifles tightly. The sailors that had tied the ship up stood to attention and saluted whilst the Captain looked around, the silent dock, unsure of what to do next.

OOC: hope this is all right, thought I’d have a few marines come and help out the commies. Nothing much, just something interesting that I thought could happen. Thought it would be better than deploying some troops with the intent of taking over or what-not. Anyway, hope you don’t mind with the liberties that I took, I assumed that with the fighting, people wouldn’t be in the dock area, or attending their usual jobs. As a note, I was thinking that they would end up as ‘advisers’ to your fighting soldiers, but if you want them to work as independent units, that’s cool too.

The above is a map. The follow numbers and descriptions correspond with their number on the map: I'm sorry for being so complex (:P) :

Tan - Prairie
Green - Forest
Lime - tall grass/green grass/shrubbery/fields/etc

1: Kent (Capital City - Eastern Edge of Prairies): The violence is worst here as Government buildings are being burnt to the ground. The official senate building still stands, its domes blackened with fires from the rioting populus Groups of criminals and idealists roam the streets armed with pistols, rifles, grenades, and AK-47s. Safe havens for refugees are being established using the bomb-shelter system that stands 50 years old. The architecture is Gothic and Art-Deco, and it also serves as the business capital of the country. The banks have for the most part been looted, and snipers have set up shop in the skyscrapers.

2: Vernon Mountain Range: A string of mountains averaging 4000 ft, it has provided protection for refugees headed West. Local police forces have held it off from the marauder groups that have materialized, but word is that the Red Victory Front, newly armed, is making an run for it. In the mountains' foothills is where Vincent's story takes place.

3: The North Forests: Held strongly by the National Resistance Forces, this area has little over 100,000 people. It is relatively hilly here and is famous for the narcotics supposedly grown deep within the woods. What worries the other militias is that the NRF might be selling the drug plants to foreign traders, reaping in funds for advanced weaponry.

4: The Prairies: The most embattled zone, this flat expanse, dotted with woods, is the arena for William de Troy's plight. His village is only a typical township that straddles the line between forest and field. The Black Flag Brigade holds this area as its HQ, and has set up fortifications along the prairie's edge. The Prairie's borders are lined with a strange circular arrangement of hills that works its way all the way around, completing a full circle. It is called the Apple Belt, for the orchards that grown on them.

5: Bay of Gordon: This bay is quite a spectacle at sunset. Where the modest navy makes its home, the area is held by a weakening National Resistance Forces battalion.

6: The Western Hills: These rolling bumps go all the way to the border, home to over 6 million of the 15 million people. It is where the De Luca Family's resources are focused, but has undergone recent raids by a growing Red Victory Front. Villages lie in the valleys, and the hills themselves are used for renegade fighters and military camps. Would be easy bombing targets.

7: The Coast: The southern coast is the most peaceful part of the country. Populated by the aging generation, with only spas and resorts, it has little value to the militias. But if an invading force were to make a amphibious assault, this would be the place to do it.

8: Aston (Port): This port town, held by the NRF, has been more stable than its sister city, the capital, although bombings throughout Day 1 racked its immigrant districts. The city itself is quite ancient, deeply involved in Cavanah's merchant history. Ancient marble walls line the roads, now peppered with bullet holes and debris.

9: Hanscot (Industrial City): The biggest city, factory capital of the entire country, it has been the battlefield in between the De Luca Family's explosive operatives and the Red Victory Front, which has been looking to gain a foothold amongst the laborer population. It sits on the bank of the Hanscot River, it

Yes, this is MT. Yes, that is fairly past the line for invasion forces. If you want, you can flow weapons in, but not that big and not that immediate. It'll just ruin the role play. The bombings are legit, but the amphibious force is too soon. I mean, no logic would indicate a need for nearly that much. Not until later would this happen, if at all. Please don't do that sort of thing as, as Cavanah said, it will end this all too quickly for anyone's liking, and if it doesn't it will just devolve into a numbers game, which is no fun. Play something like a citizen getting caught up in the conflict or something like that. Much more interesting, much better for the RP. Thank you.

Vachiu Pentsin stood at the crest of a high bluff, overlooking the sea-coast of Cavanah. It was nearly dawn, and the sun was just beginning to show above the rough seas below, but his attention was elsewhere.

In his hand, held a small satellite phone, which he was holding tight to his ear, to hear over the driving coastal winds,

"Vachiu, I've told you, this is a vital first step! Proceed as planned immediately! Events are in motion elsewhere that forbid hesitation here! Do your duty!"

The voice stopped, and Vachiu Pentsin looked about to respond, when the connection was cut off, from the other end.

Looking about him, he seemed to notice for the first time, the half-dozen men behind him.

"Well, we're on. Bring ashore the First Battalion. Grey wants this shit-hole country, and he wants it quickly. Let’s move!"

Five of the assembled men quickly set upon their own satellite phones, passing the final word on to their companies, while the sixth man fell into step behind Pentsin, as he moved off, back down the slope of the bluff.

"So, we're really going through with this?"

"Yes, Varikhii, we're doing it. As soon as the men are ashore, we're moving."

"Pentsin, sir, we're rather outnumbered, and with no allies in the region to speak of, we're in somewhat of a poor case,"

"No allies?" Pentsin asked, looking back at Varikhii with a grin on his face, "May I introduce you too-"

He stopped at the entrance to his tent, which he pulled open with ceremony, "His Majesty Gerhard Bellez the First, of the New Sovereign Militia."

Varikhii stood, speechless. Before him, a tall man, obviously well-muscled and weather-worn, but draped in regal dress stood up. He was silent, looking over this newest man. Pentsin, with whom he was already acquainted, continued, "He has eight-thousand men in the hills about here, and has agreed to Frumentarii support in the coming conflict."

Varikhii stepped slowly into the tent, and as he did, Gerhard took a quick step to greet him, and shook his hand vigorously. Pentsin proceeded to complete the introductions, "Your Majesty, this is Mr. Mikolai Varikhii, he is my aide here, and has been in the country nearly as long as myself, albeit elsewhere,"

In his heavily accented speech, he thanked the Pudites, "My family extends ze varmest thanks to you, Mr. Varikhii, and all your people."

Varikhii nodded, and turned back to his commander, taken aback at the whole procedure. Before he could speak, however, Pentsin cut him off, "Varikhii, you are to join His Majesty here, as an observer, when we undertake our capture of Svolt."

"Sir?"

Pentsin ignored him, however, and walked past to the table at which Gerhard had been sitting when they entered. Sprawled across it, a map of the whole country was overlaid with dozens of smaller notes, more detailed topographic and city maps, and other information.

"Sir, could I speak with you - alone?"

Pentsin turned back from the table, "If you must... I am sorry, Herr Gerhard, I will only be a moment..."

The two men moved back outside the tent, where Varikhii immediately spoke, "Sir, I know we're outnumbered, but can we trust the natives? These rustics will collapse at the first shot!"

"Quite the contrary, Varikhii; Emperor Gerhard and his family, the House of Bellez, are prominent citizens here, quite affluent and of excellent means here. Their men are superbly well-drilled and very disciplined. You'll have no trouble from them,"

"Sir, even with our combined numbers - with nine-thousand men - we're still not even half the size of the smallest of the three major factions..."

"Well, the Communists are busy in Aston, the Black Flag fellows are a rabble with tanks, and the Resistance Front, or whatever they call themselves, are rather unpopular anyway. So, we'll come out alright."

Varikhii hesitated, "Yes sir..."

"All we need now is for those boats to make it to shore alright, and we can begin."

Varikhii simply nodded.

It was about to begin.

The soldier was cleaning his AK-47. He put the parts back together. He put the magazine in and pulled the bolt back. He could have done this with a blindfold, not only is the AK simple, he is expenrienced. The first weapon he fired was a AK-47. His first job was manafacturing AK-47s. And now it is his job to fire it. He walked outside his battacks. He fell in line with the other soldiers. They got into the helicopters.
----------------------------------------------------
The Driver started up the BMP. He heard the soldiers getting in. He drove the BMP into the water. No matter how many times he did this, he was still anxious about going into the water. The BMP floated and he sighed. He could see the advance teams flying overhead. They would hit the coast and set up a base. They would then get the coordinates from the Comrades on where to go.

OOC: I hope you don't mind my militia. Like you said, I've created my own, and intend to use them, in addition to my own men - a note of which I'd like to make here.

The Frumentarii are a wide-ranging intelligence network, with operatives in most modern countries. They also maintain a small covert force, created of loyal foreigners, colonials, and Frumentarii operatives. This is what is being sent, a rather light force designed for asymmetrical warfare.

I intended the New Sovereign Militia to be rather Prussian-esque, and that is part of the reason I didn't take the maximum number of soldiers you outlined in your opener. I expect they're not very well equipped, but they're disciplined and motivated.

All told, this should be rather fun, much more so than if I had simply invaded this, because, as it is, I could crush every single nation represented here at once. Less fun, though, like I said...

A scrawny figure, adorned with buckteeth, freckles, and red hair, scrambled up the rocks that guarded Cavanah’s shores. His thirteen year old frame moved up the sloping cliff face, obviously pushing its limits in the ways of speed. Strapped to its back was a small .22, its bandolier stuffed with bullets. The blue eyes turned to face the sea as Henry reached the top. Meeting his eyes were oversized binoculars. They had emerged from a backpack of his, and now gave him a view of the landing force he had thought he spotted from the beach. Terror seizing his easily-panicked body, he scrambled for his cellphone and called up his “sergeant”.

It rang once and was picked up. “Yes?” came a deep, authoritative voice. “S-sir. On the beaches! A-amphibious…I say…3000 men?”. His statement was graced with a gruff “Shit,” before it hung up. He stuffed the phone nervously into his khaki short pockets and began sprinting inland.

On the other end, the South Battalion of the National Resistance Forces was collapsing camp. The fields just north of the beaches were sprinkled with foliage and dirt roads, and it had served its purpose for the cause of the NRF. The Defense Chief, Hugo Hobart, a portly tactical genius, had just received word of the landing force southwest of him. He now was striding through the disassembled tents, observing as the militant volunteers, numbering 2,143, ready for battle. His swiftly-designed ambush-and-disperse technique (AAD) was going to be implemented along all available routes of advancement for intruders. Anti-Aircraft, handheld missiles would be put into the trees with experts while the side of the roads would be dripping with well-camouflaged anti-tank infantry. Several hundred meters away infantry and snipers would be waiting for any off-road men to make their march. It would be the best that the NRF had to offer, and although they were prepared to lose, they were expecting to be honored with some notice.

(That's your force Emporer Pudu, that they're targeting. I hope you don't mind. Note that these guys know the area too, and their rudimentary guerilla tactics may seem stupid but it should have some interesting results)

Your forces would best serve the cause by attacking the Capitalist fiends in Aston, their port town along the southern coast. It is infested with them, and you would find air strikes to be most effective. Collateral damage is not a factor.

(Make sure to keep the attack not-so-huge).

No problem, it's fine. Although I dunno if Cavanah Natives have such exotic names. :P

(OOC: Third Spanish States is isolationist for their own safety... but this is too much for them to ignore. They'll take "precautions" though and avoid doing a large scale operation, and this is entirely Secret IC. And Cavanah, it's not a bad idea to impose rules on such threads, as otherwise the chances of having "n00ks!!!11" and uber-overkills would be too high)

No official statements of support to the anarcho-syndicalists of the Black Flag Brigade were given by the Confederación, neither secret communications were given to the Black Flag Brigade. People died... but the ends justified the means in that nation and two hundreds were much less than all those who died from misery by the corrupt government and State which only fate was to be smashed. However something seemed to stir up in Third Spanish States...

Hampshire Haven, Unknown location in the harbor district, 1:00 AM

"Recon mission in the way, shouldn't we worry on messing with other forces?"

"And letting the fascists take over this young commune which can be our ally in our cause? Anyway, not a conventional operation here pal"

"Not conventional? How exactly?"

"No flags, full use of stealth technology, no nationality identification, never surrender. Even if it fails nobody will ever know who hit them. Our brave Blackguards shall liberate Cavanah, and once safety is reached our future comrades shall receive our support against oppression. We have hid ourselves from the international battlefield for too much time"

"How much are we talking about?"

"First, to not go into there blindly we shall recon Cavanah with our spyplanes, but I suppose we shall, as anonymous benefactors, deploy ten companies and five Steel Striders at least, and if necessary, the first fleet and how many air units are needed to achieve air superiority. But it seems some people are sending overkill forces there already"

"How far will the recon take?"

"In 4 or 6 days we shall have an entire reconaissance of Cavanah."

"Good to know comrade, now are you afraid of how this might end?"

"Not bad for our Confederacy. Time will tell whether Cavanah shall have a terrible or glorious fate for its people."

"Yes, but what about larger powers?"

"China had billions of inhabitants while the United States had less than us in the ending of the 20th century. Did China invade the U.S. because they had more people? Numbers cannot replace competence and technology."

Several hundreds of kilometers behind an Oso Class Cruiser-Carrier which was loaded with as many recon unmanned aerial vehicles as it could carry, A small, flag-less fleet composed by four Zumwalt Class destroyers and eight Fridtjof Nansen Class frigates escorted a group of amphibious docks transporting several soldiers which only wore camouflaged, flag-less uniforms with no indications of rank, nationality or name. The vehicles also had the painting of nationality removed and the soldiers held control over their lives through cyanide pills every single one of those. There were about 1,860 soldiers among infantry, heavy infantry, fireteams and Blackguards BlackOps special forces. They would wait for the spyplanes to recon everything about that foreign, underdeveloped nation. Landscape, military bases, government buildings. Nothing would be ignored.

A group of 10 unmanned aerial vehicles (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6c/NEUROn-CG-concept-112005-dassault.jpg) was launched from International Waters to recon that foreign, unknown territory, while 10 others were being readied with a payload of bombs should the worse come, and the remaining space of the carrier was occupied by a small group of 2 F-35Bs, 4 F-22 Raptors and 6 CSAL-32 Buitres (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=1891&view=findpost&p=2813195)... the UAVs would be undetectable by known radars, and if a truly effective anti-stealth technology did exist against high-altitude reconaissance unmanned aerial vehicles, the chances that such nation had it were minimal.

Smen Bogdanovich was moving inland, alongside the rest of his company, to join the larger battalion force that was gathering at the New Sovereign Militia camp about twelve miles away.

The five companies - two-hundred men each - had split at the beach, with each landing separately, and moving by separate roads. Smen's company was the last ashore, and, he assumed, would arrive shortly to a packed camp, and to a rest.

However, that was not to be. As his platoon moved slowly down the road, all were taken by surprise when shots rang out. All, that was, save Smen Bogdanovich. That is because he was dead.

As he fell, those around him scattered. Others fell too, but not enough. The remainder of the platoon dove for cover in the surrounding woods, and fired on the location of the muzzle flashes before, but it was too late. As soon as the Frumentarii platoon hit the woods, the firing had stopped.

After a few minutes, they emerged from their woods back onto the road. Officers quickly counted the dead, and dispatched short-range search teams, but they would find nothing. They knew that.

News of the attack quickly spread through the company, and soon after that, reports began coming in of similar attacks on the other four companies. Those in command had expected this kind of resistance, but not this quickly...

Meanwhile, roughly fifty miles away, things were going far smoother. The Frumentarii fleet - ships directly under the command of the Foreign Relations Office's Frumentarii Prefects - was being made ready, although none could have known as much without being on the ships themselves.

This, was because they were rather submerged, and thusly not conducive to being noticed. All together, a single Praetor-class submarine aircraft carrier, a rather small affair, of a few dozen unmanned aerial vehicles and a handful of light STOVL aircraft, was being escorted by a pair of Forthar-class attack submarines, and a single Port-class cruise missile submarine.

This would constitute the entire support network available to the Frumentarii battalion and their native allies. This was to be a subtle operation, and was designed to remain under the radar, inside the political workings of the Dominion, as well as the world at large...

The political world of the Dominion was a dangerous place, and should this unwarranted projection of Imperial Will be uncovered, then the repercussions for the perpetrating party would be terrible indeed. The Emperor did not look kindly on his subjects taking his power for their benefit...

However, it was not the first time such deceit was played out, and it would not be the last. Secret colonies and proxy wars were the currency of the political servants of the forty-second Pudite Emperor...

The Dominion was faltering, and the rebels and idealists of the Cavanahan people were but pawns in a much larger game...

Hugo Hobart sat in his jeep, surrounded by three rifle-bearing volunteers. One held a satellite phone, in case of a communications break-down with command in Aston. In the distance gunshots could be heard, confirming his suspicions about the speed of his enemy. Secondly, a concern came to him when the skirmishes seemed to end abruptly. Some raged on, but at least half of his guns had gone quiet...the ones he could hear.

He waited for a long ten minutes, chomping a cheap cigar. He sighed with anticipation as a courier emerged form the forest road nearby. Riding an old motorcycle, it pulled up next to Hobart's vehicle and handed him several documents. "From field command," he stated authoritatively. He then started up his bike again, secured his helmet, and road off on the Prairie Road, presumably to deliver the medical supplies attached to the back of his vehicle.

Hugo handed the papers to the soldier next to him. "Read," he said sharply, the impatience in his voice speaking louder than the words. In response the man cleared his throat and began.

"Charlie Junction: 9 Dead, 4 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 9.
Pluto Junction: 4 Dead, 7 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 13.
Beretta Point: 10 Dead, 1 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 6.
Georgia Junction: 6 Dead, 4 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 15.
Logan Junction: 12 Dead, 7 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 3.
Nile Point: 1 Dead, 2 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 12.
Tommy Junction: 8 Dead, 4 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 7.
Virgin Point: 10 Dead, 7 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 13.
Xavier Point: 3 Dead, 3 Wounded. Estimated Enemy Casualties 20.

We sustained virtually no casualties at all skirmishes prior to the arrival of what appeared to be highly trained special forces familiar with the terrain and Guerilla-techniques employed by us. No specific faction can be named. Our forces retreated into the tall grass but not before shaking the movement of the invading force. Particular successes at Xavier and Nile points - due to lack of the previously mentioned Special Forces. Heavy damage sustained at Logan and Beretta due to heavy presence of said Special Forces. Returning to Pharaoh Camp to regroup. They await your instructions."

Hugo Hobart looked slightly red in the face. "Take the explosives team in our fastest vehicles. Put Improvised Explosive Devices ahead of the platoons traveling on Virgin, Tommy, Beretta, and Logan. Focus all of our current forces on eradicating the remnants of their men on Xavier, Nile and Georgia. Take the wounded to a seperate location than the main camp. And driver, get me to the leaders of each group. Pronto."

The reason for the size limits isn't so you don't ruin other people's invasions...it's so you don't ruin the militia's fun. I think the focus has been taken away from the various factions for no real reason.

I'm going to ask that no other invading force from now on arrives. Imperial Isa, remnant missiles would take down some of your bombers, etc. And if you could use a tad better grammar it'd be fantastic, I'm having trouble reading your posts.

Dhahak you can join. But you'll have to either be supporting a faction or roleplaying a small one. Sorry.

Oily Prata, his fleet is quite small. And Isa is just sending Bombers (I think?). If you want to just send in Bombers or trim down your fleet it'd be fine. Just not the original size suggested.

Gerry Jackson held onto his Kalashnikov tight, his knuckles white on the wood an metal. He was adorned in communist wear, a beret sitting atop his head proudly. His long wool jacket was one of many in the line of the Red Victory Guard that greeted the rolling BMPs. Be they ambassadors of an opponent and they would be shot. If they were an arriving communist force, their arms were to be taken but their men would be put in reserve. The Grand Comrade Orlov wanted the victory of the Red Front to be solely Cavanahan men and women - it would be their country, not some puppet state.

But word was amongst the privates that the high command was also having trouble denying some of the money and troops coming in from the nearby Marxist regimes. Jackson couldn't imagine it being easy, with the situation tight along the coast. The NSF was approaching on either side, and the Black Flag's momentum was not displaying any signs of flagging. The only good news, besides the arriving equipment, was the plan supposedly in preparation for the taking of the Western Mountains.

But he snapped out of this whirlwind of thoughts as the men began approaching. "We come in peace!" came a voice. So? wondered Jackson sarcastically.

(OOC: Guess I should explain better the forces I'm sending.

Each infantry company of an "Iron Column" has 388 men, and from those 194 are soldiers and 194 are those who work with logistics, so there'll be 1,940 soldiers(I wrote it incorrectly before). Prepare yourself for a long post I copied from here (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=2065), if you wish more details just click on the link:

A typical company is formed by:

194 support units(5 medic squads, 5 8-man teams of combat engineers and 134 logistics and supply workers)
4 Platoons(3 standard and 1 anti-tank/close air defense)
10 squads of 3 recon and demolitions specialists each
1 Electronic Warfare Officer - Equipped like the ELINT Operative, but also has control over Jammers and is also the "Major" who defines, with help of others, the missions of the entire platoon.
2 Electronic Warfare Assistants - Help the Officer with ELINT and EW, have the same equipment than the Officer.
1 Blackguard Assault Fireteam - Independent ground based SpecOps ready to help the platoon.

---------

Combined Infantry Platoons(40 man)

A Typical Third Spanish States Platoon of infantry is formed by the combination of:

2 Standard Infantry squads
1 Sniper fireteam
1 Heavy Assault squad
2 Asistentes Rifleros

Supported by at about 1:1 ratio compared to the total of:

Medic squads
Combat engineers teams
Logistics workers teams.

Although other combinations more focused on AT and AA weapons might be formed, including entirely anti-tank/anti-air based platoons. Platoons are commonly deployed in coordination with armored Steel Strider light brigades.

Also I mentioned five Steel Striders "mini-brigades", which give about a total of 350 armored fighting vehicles plus several support vehicles as well, each Steel Strider is composed by:

2 Fast Assault Squads
- 4 L44 ST120-A Sino Stealth Battle Tank (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=1650)

Vachiu Pentsin looked out over the vale before him, where, sprawled out over the green floors of the mountain retreat, the Pudite Frumentarii mingled with the local rebel forces of the New Sovereign Militia. For the last few hours, Pentsin watched as thin lines of his own troops trickled out of the surrounding hills, bloodied by the journey, some with more casualties with others…

However, the force was still a viable unit, with a combined fighting strength of about eighty-nine hundred men. The killed men had been left behind, as well as those too wounded to move, although the latter was put to death before being abandoned, to maintain a level of secrecy not possible if one should be apprehended.

Standing beside Pentsin, as usual, was his second-in-command, Mikolai Varikhii. Beyond him, the leaders of the battered battalions were congregating around a large table, bearing the same maps and diagrams as the kings table at the small seaside camp.

Pentsin turned to his aide, “Varikhii, how many have come?”

“Sir, all battalions’ commanders are reporting, although not all elements are present at this time.”

“How long, do you suppose, before we are at full strength?”

“We can safely give it another night, but anything beyond that, and we should move on, to avoid being detected here.”

“Indeed, the King’s men know these hills well enough, tomorrow, we will move deeper into the mountains. Before we move however, there is something I’d like to do,”

“What’s that, sir?”

"Varikhii, what you see here is a force of excellent light infantry, and a much larger force of perfectly drilled soldiers. These are deadly men, our soldiers are well armed, and the others armed enough. This is a powerful force.”

“Yes, sir?” said Varikhii, questioningly,

“However, there is something we lack. We have air support from the coast, and we have supplies and ammunition, from the same source. Our morale is good, and our position is acceptable. What we lack - is striking power; power on the ground. Our infantry are fast, light, and mobile. They are well-equipped for this kind of open-land fighting. They are suited enough to this warfare, but when bogged down, as we will soon be, in Svolt, we cannot break their lines. Now, we can.”

“Sir? What secret have you?"

“Varikhii, tonight, eight helicopters will be touching down in this valley. They will be landing twice before the sun rises, and when it does, assembled will be sixteen of the most powerful examples of mechanized warfare in the modern age.”

“Tanks, sir?”

“Not just any tanks, Varikhii; sixteen Mekhev II main battle tanks; the pinnacle of armored technology today. These tanks will lead our assault on Svolt, where we can fly in more and better equipment.”

Pentsin turned back to look out over the valley, “First, though, we need that airport…”

Sorry I haven't been around for a few days, I was going back home and drinking and reading Hemingway. Anyway, I'm going to restate something I said in a telegram to Cavanah, which was that I'm willing to help him RP some of the communist forces. Given this request, if it is accepted, would you [Cavanah] like to RP any forces in Aston that meet up with my men, or would you like me to RP some communists meeting with them. If the former or if you don't let RP the communists, I'll repost in the new thread. If the latter, I'll do a bit of work on meeting up with the commies and such like. I would also like to request that I get to RP my stuff happening before the attack on Aston.

And Pudu, I assume you got the thread in the telegram, but in case you haven't, and in case anyone else hasn't, I'll post it here.

You can roleplay the Communist militia as they come in contact with Durium's forces (he's doing a great job over in the IC thread).

I'll be roleplaying a Commie squad that comes in contact with that downed helicopter while you can man AA batteries.

Okay, and about my frigate and its marines and sailors, you want to RP the communists meeting up with them, or should I? And can we assume that this is happening before the attack? There's some stuff that I want to get done before I get stuck in the midst of a war zone. It should only be a few posts until I can get properly started on the fighting Durium.

You can roleplay the frigates entry as you deem fit. Just do me a favor and condense everything into one post that you've already posted (I think I mentioned it in the telegram).
