The Scandinvan Imperial Ball (MT)

The vast ballroom gleamed as the sun began to rise through the ancient stained glass windows that flanked both sides of the entire room. The light rose with a powerful gleam as the freshly polished white marble floors and bounced into the alabaster walls of the room. Yet, the shining white stone was not the only thing to adorn the room as the ancient crystal chandeliers dispersed the light radiantly, the ancient statues of Emperors of the past seemed to smile in the morning sun, and the various paintings took on new life when the light shone onto their ancient canvas. Seeing the fine of the room the Palace Steward was rather pleased with the weeks of work that had gone into making sure everything in the palace was spit spot for the upcoming ball that the Emperor had planning since the very start of his reign several years ago.
The Emperor Ingolf III, upon receiving the news of the preparations for the being completed, ordered the Imperial Steward, Lord Erida, to set a call to the international community welcoming the monarchs, presidents, royalty, prime minister, nobility, and various dignitaries to the Ball. As well, he ordered Lord Erida to make clear fitting accommodations would be made for anyone and that security will be extremely tight around the palace so all foreign bodyguards accompanying any of the visiting persons must only be armed with rubber bullets or melee weapons. Also, he noted in the letter that all people attending the ball should make use of the full sized airport that is located on the grounds of the Scandinvan Imperial Palace.
Despite, the appearance of Ball being nothing more then the standard one being thrown by the Scandinvan Emperor, Ingolf III had some of his own personal purposes for the Ball. The Ball itself was more of a personal matter for him as he a matter of importance to announce during the course of the ball to the Scandinvan Empire and to the international community as a whole.
OOC: Quick note can choose to send a representative to the Ball. Also, there will be no murders, no stealing, no abductions, no spies, and certainly no Godmodding. Though money laundering, in-trading, corporate deals, and back room politics are allowed.;)

President Norheim, of the USSY arrived, punctual as he was often inclined to be. He arrived with a single guard, a Captain in the Navy. The captain, in his Dress Whites carried with him a sabre which clinked as he walked.

The Empire had long highly valued her relationship with the Scandinvans, and was certainly not going to miss this event. The Emperor himself, dressed in the ceremonial wear of his station, was to be there, as was his wife, the Empress Helen.

IC:The Deutsches Reich, reckoning itself directly above it's landing ground (although still above the level of a few low-hung clouds, cut all engines abruptly.
Fortunately, it was a zeppelin, so didn't have quite the result you might have expected. Bleeding gas at a controlled rate, the Imperial ship entered a leisurely descent.
Aeroplanes, Kaiser Georg Friedrich Ferdinand Hohenzollern had always thought, were undignified, unsafe gas-guzzlers which should be reserved to military use. Of course his role as head of state meant he did have to use them every now and again, a guilty necessity. But not here. This was a grand trip. There were going to be a lot of important people here, and he wanted to enter in style.
He also wnated to come in full force. He had cajoled every other king in Germany into coming (except Adolf-Friedrich of Livonia, who was always first on board for foreign trips, and didn't need cajoling), and they'd brought with them a couple of trained negotiators and a man who drafted treaties, a full domestic staff, and, of course, the guard.
Kompanie Ein did not really have an official existance. There incredibly elaborate uniforms might have seemed to contradict this until you realized that they were equipped out of the Emperor's own pocket. They were simply thirty-something men, recomended by regimente everywhere in the Empire, from Estonia to Luxemburg, Austria to North Schleswig. They were the best.
The Deutsches Reich was nevertheless not that big a ship. This was important, as it allowed to go lower than official docking height. You couldn't be secure or dignified wriglling your way down a ladder, so down came the underhull stairs.
Several men from Kompanie Ein were the first down, of course, swords drawn and pistols out. It really was irritating, being denied proper weapons. Understandable, sensible, even, but highly irritating. But they were often put in such circumstances. They all knew their way around swords and rubber bullets.

The Scandinavian Emperor:
I, Imperator Moran Argelev of the Allied States of Durium, wishes to send my compliments, and a message regarding our representative to your royal ball. We are a newcomer to the world stage, and wish to integrate ourselves into the international community as quickly and smoothly as possible. I will be sending via helicopter my brother, Warmaster Terramir Argelev, commander of all military affairs and forces in the field. He will be accompanied by six bodyguards, two being Secret Service agents, and four being Veteran Rangers of the Special Operations Corps.

But these...these are truly a testament to humanity's creative beauty," he said, gesturing out at the buildings spread before them, "Were they all built during a single era, or have individual Emperors added to it?"The envoy responded," Most of the structures have been built over the last two hundred years, yet the older structures of the palace complex can be dated by up to fifteen hundred years."
The UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter was a military-issue helicopter, but was used to transport government officials nonetheless. "Air Traffic Control, this is the Durian Helo Flight Oiler Echo Eight-Wun. We are carrying the Durian emissary to the Royal Ball and request permission to land, over."
"Roger that, Oiler Echo. You have clearance to land at the helipad at the far southern end of the airfield. Out."
The Blackhawk came in for a smooth touchdown, credit to the superb government pilots. Warmaster Terramir Argelev stepped out as the rotors ceased their whirl, dressed in a black dress uniform with four golden stripes on the cuffs and the generic general officer's epaulets. Six more men stepped out after him as he walked down off the helipad. Four of them wore long black cloaks, likely to stay unnoticed by the crowd, the largest of which wore a hood covering his face in either cloth or shadow. The other two men wore generic government-issue tuxedos, sunglasses, and the classic earwigs, hands clasped down in front of them and their faces expressionless.
"Come on, men. This is a fine chance to step out from the sidelines and onto the stage," said Argelev, walking toward the palace.
"Hmph," grunted the hooded man.
"Oh, come off it, Jack. You can't help but be impressed by the grandeur and architecture of this palace."
"Hmph," the hooded man, Jack, grunted again.
"Have it your way, just don't make us look bad."
Jack nodded. "I know how to act," he said softly.

My lord, Christian thought, Our Scandinvan friends certainly are hospitable. This level of lavishing was worthy of the greatest of Errikan hospitality, and then some. The similarities the Scandinvans held with the Errikans never ceased to amaze.

The Emperor thinking for a moment, then replied," Very well, I promise you that the words spoken here shall not leave this room."
He gave a hand gesture at which all the servants left the room and the only other Scandinvans left in the room where six Imperial Guards.
"As you know, my government is socialist. We give our people an excessive amount of rights, and everyone is generally happy. However, the nation of Akimonad has recently denounced communism, and in particular my Socialist nation. I pointed out that the statements about my nation simply weren't true, specifically that my people are free, and pointed out that Akimonad is an Autocratic republic.
"Well, they didn't take to kindly to it, and the entire situation is far out of hand, and spiraling towards war. The Akimonadi government even destroyed one of their own Battlecruisers to create a causus belli.
"However, do not think I became a member of the Confederacy of Scandinvan Protectorates to ask for military help. Yanitaria can protect it self." Norheim frowned, "I would like to secretly evacuate my executive cabinet to the Scandinvan capitol, so that in the event of war, my cabinet, highest ranking Field Marshal, and our families will be safe from reprisal.
"Also, in the event that the enemy cannot be stopped at the beaches, and Yanitaria City becomes open to attack, I'd like for Parliament to evacuate and join me here.
"My government, and possibly the New Oslo Pact will pay for all the expenses, and even rent an appropriate building, if you'll agree."

Though since you do not wish for the intervention of our forces into the war we therefore then will not enter the war on your behalf. We shall gladly though accept your government's important officals and their families into the Scandinvan will be kept safe.
To note however, if it comes to it and there is the need for a trial by let us say a mlitary offical who orders that civilians be killed then a fair trial shall be held in the Scandinvan Empire, though however the penalties will be limitede the law of your nation. As well, we will refuse to turn over persons who we believe have done nothing more then attempt to serve their people well.
Furthermore, if the worse comes then any refugees shall be welcome into our nation. However, as by our nation's laws do limit even me I cannot extend full ctizenship (to note this means that have full legal protection, but just not the right to vote or hold elected offices) to adult refugees automatically, however I will be willing to grant full citizenship to all persons under the age of fourteen.
Added, we shall be willing to help pay for for the maitence of your government's operations based in the Scandinvan Empire, and I shall also grant safe private residences to your nation's officals who choose to flee to my nation.
I would like to note two things though, first though Socialists and regular communists are free political parties in my nation, outright Stalinists cannot legally hold public office in my nation due to the fact in the past Stalinists attempted to led a coup against one of my ancestors, however they can be granted political aslyum with full freedom of movements as long as they do not call for or particpated in violent activites. Secondly, it would be best for your cabinet, your ranking field marshall, and their families and yours to stay in the Imperial Palace as it is the safest place for them in my nation."

"This is all very generous of you, sir. I don't think we have to worry about war crimes on our side, although Akimonad, I am told, has a less than stellar reputation. Further, the USSY dislikes Stalinists just as much, and our people are very unlikely to actively follow that philosophy. My cabinet, field marshal, and our families will stay in there palace then. Perhaps we could have a room, and connect it to a Yanitarian Governmental Communications Network. With a few laptops, and a few pieces of equipment, we'd be able to run the government from the safety of the Palace."
OOC: My main problem with the "I hate communists" trend is that people don't know why they hate them, other than the cold war era bias. They don't even bother to differentiate between, say, Stalinists, and other, more peaceful types of communism or socialism, like the type practiced in Yanitaria.

Regarding your people I am sure that there is a wing in the palace that can be set aside for their sole use and also that a room can be found where matters can be discussed by your government secretly and safely. Alas, though what can be done to save your nation may be limited as the drums of was I hear are growing ever wider. Yet, perhaps before the invansion begins your people can begin a general evac from your nation to the Scandinvan Empire. If it comes to it we can even grant an autonomous state within the Empire."
OOC: True, true, years of cold war can do that to a people.

"When the enemy fleets move past Gibraltar, a fleet of specially modified An-225s, marked with symbols of an aide organization will evacuate as many people as possible. I'll also send properly marked ships, I just hope that the Akimonadi fleet allows them past.
"Still, many will not go. Many will stay and resist the enemy as much as they can, they are very proud, you know. In any case, various national treasures will be sent immediately, so as to not tie up civilians. As we speak, weapons are being sent to caches in allied nations to support an insurgency. However, I am extremely confident that Yanitaria will weather this invasion very well, and come out on top. We have every advantage possible, so I don't see why we shouldn't.
"The offer of an autonomous state is very generous. I promise that if it comes to that, my people will very grateful. We would be willing to abide by any Scandinvan laws, and contribute to the economy. And I would personally be willing to have laws passed requiring community service to the Empire.
"And you don't have to worry about anyone wanting to violently overthrow any government. Yanitarian culture revolves around helping others, and developing creativity. This breeds peacefulness, and indeed, murder or assault is a rare and shocking event."
President Norheim smiled, "again, I thank you for your generosity."

IC: "Thank you," Friedrich replied to the guard. "It would be excellent if you could show my staff to their quarters, but I'd appreciate a meeting with the Emperor as soon as he has the time."
Georg Friedrich was impressed. Of course the Scandinvans would have found someone who spoke German, but he could still appreciate the gesture. Especially since he was fluent in Polish and French, so he rarely felt very linguisticly outclassed.
But the palace itself was overwhelming. Germans, especially from the big cities, set alot of store by architecture. The annual showdown between Berlin, Vienna, and Cologne for the Outstanding Architecture prize was a big event in some circles, and everywhere from Munich to Riga had some famous monument or cathedral to boast about. But even in the Imperial Capital, there was nothing quite like this.
"Just how old is this place?", thought Franz Adalbert of Bavaria out loud.
"Indeed... how old is it?", the Kaiser repeated, to reassure there escort that the question was for answering.
A group of well dressed men approached the group and then the one in the middle said," Greetings good sirs and welcome to the Scandinvan Empire. I have been sent to bring you to the main palace where your personal quarters have already been prepared."
Thank you very much, sirs. If I may introduce myself and attendants, these two men are Jeremy Hall and Heinrich von Graf," he said, pointing to the two men in tuxedos and glasses. "This man," he said, pointing to Jack,"is Master Sergeant Jack Foley, Durian Ranger Battalion. He doesn't talk much. Regarding the set up of a possible autonomous state the only requirements set upon your nation is that you allow for pratice of peaceful religions, freedom of speech, and that you recognize that you are a part of the Scandinvan Empire. When the envoy had left, the royal couple advanced into the—their—wing of the palace.
“We have a little time,” Christian said to his wife as they looked at the splendor of the halls they walked through.
“Yes,” the Empress responded to her husband, “We had expected it to be a bit earlier, starting about when we arrived, right?”
“Well, to be fair,” he smiled, “traffic was a lot better than we expected.”
“Air traffic? You expected us to be delayed by air traffic?”
“Yes, air traffic.”
She laughed as they approached the top of the staircase they were then climbing.
“You are so clever,” she said, her voice not without a hint of sarcasm.
“That’s why you keep me around,” he chuckled in return. Helen stopped at the top of the stairs, turning back to Christian, several steps below her.
“You are good for more than that, my husband,” Helen said, reaching down towards him.

The two Secret Service Agents sat down at the bar. "Martini, stirred, not shaken," said one.

"I guess both our nations are somewhat similar in government, as our Imperator, while he holds the majority of power, still shares some with the representatives of the Allied States. Our nation primarily revolves around the military - registration for service, active or reserve, is required at age 16. In addition we have some of the best soldiers in the world, trained in the inhospitable jungle and polar regions that dominate 90% of our nation." Argelev noticed that his guards were still standing silently behind him. "Go enjoy yourselves. I'll be fine," he said, waving them off. "What other major nations are attending the Royal Ball tonight?"
The two Secret Service Agents sat down at the bar. "Martini, stirred, not shaken," said one.
"Vodka, if you please," said the Germanic Agent.
Jack Foley leaned up against the wall in a corner and lit a cigar. "Three salads will be nice." Constantine said as he took the cup of champagne in his hands; taking a small sip. "If you know of any Scandinavan appetizers, sir, then you can bring us those."The servant bowed his head," I shall bring your salads soon, but I must say that there a few Scandinvan dishes suitable for a proper meal such as this. Yet, I can bring you some marinated reindeer, fresh cod slices, and some mutton if you would like."
"Those would be acceptable, sir; the marinated reindeer interests me. I await the arrival of our main courses with trepidation; thank you."

Each person was then served enough food to feed three people. As well, with them they brought the various dishes that the group of free foreign royals had ordered. At the same time though they brought their Emperor a medium sized steak, some venison, some salmon, a little crab, and mead.
The Grand Duke and his group thanked the waiters before they began to eat; Violet occassionally looked at the Emperor. Constantine smiled at his wife before taking a sip from his glass of champagne. "I agree; the food is of good quality."
While her parents were chatting; Violet looked at the Emperor but decided to restrain herself after a while because she did not want to be rude. She was a beautiful young woman who was refined and polite; she wanted to keep that image. She took a sip of her honey water and continued eating; thinking about her seven sisters and one brother; who were still in Phanar; she also spent time listening to her parents talk about the ball; apparently Grand Duke Constantine wanted to have Emperor Ingolf as a friend. "Violet, would you like to meet the Emperor after dinner?"
"Yes! Yes I would!"
Violet felt like screaming that she would love to meet Ingolf but decided not to do that. "Yes; I would like to meet him, it would be nice to meet the host who was generous enough to give us Scandinvan hospitality." Constantine smiled; telling his daughter that he would introduce her to Ingolf after dinner.

To answer simply though Scandinvan Catholicism is a branch of Catholicism that is more conservative and has a Patriarch to lead our Church. The Xi are Tatar people that were subdued centuries ago and various regions named exist currently in memory, though the Fiery Delta is still the proper name of that region. Regarding my name a person who is of equal rank can address me by my birth name. As well, I sadly lack the time to give you a tour of my palace."

“Ingolf,” he said, half turning the word over in his mouth and half addressing the Scandinvan Emperor, “You can also refer to me as Christian, and my wife as Helen; how have affairs in the Scandinvan Empire been evolving since our last correspondence?”"Well, I have managed to take total control of the Scandinvan Empire, though sadly a large number of people had to be sacked from office in order to allow for my rule to be firmly established."
OOC: I think it would be good to do this....
As Violet talks to the Scandinvan Emperor, Constantine and Sophia decide to separate and talk to the various guests that they could find; perhaps a foreign monarch or someone from the Scandinvan aristocracy (OOC: assuming there are some aristocrats attending the ball). As Constantine was talking to some aristocrats, Grand Duchess Sophia was exploring the ballroom; a man in miner's clothes caught her eye. She stares at Zerdoff briefly; finding his choice in clothes to be odd. She continues to explore the ballroom; looking for another guest to talk to but the thought of that miner still is in her mind. She looks at him again; still perplexed about his choice in clothes. "A miner in the gathering of aristocrats..."
Constantine begins to talk to the aristocrats he has found about life in the upper class; making jokes and comparing their wealth and posessions. He occassionally glances at Sophia but decides not to bother her.

"I do not think security would be a problem during a trip of yours to Phanar; all you would need to do is tell my nation's government when you will be visiting is all. I would not mind being your tour guide; it would be nice to know you more while I show you my beloved nation. Also, what security reasons would make my tour of your nation's capital city informal? I ask out of curiosity.""Simply that you shall travel in a stadnard government vechile and shall only have four guards, though the Scandinvan military will make sure that you are kept safe."

You see that the hardhat is cut in the relative shape of a crown, while still looking round and, well, hard hattish.

OOC: Is it too late to join in on the Ball?
If not:
IC: A man wearing a golden hardhat, and black pleated coveralls walks in, and begins to chatter quietly with one of his national animals- a coal miner, and his vice supremacy.
His Supreme and All Knowing Idiocy Tarren Zerdoff III sits down, covered in sweat and soot. He orders a bottle of vodka, requesting it as, "As tall as my face."
HSAKI T. Zerdoff III begins greeting other Coal Miners, and soon, a little group of Spice Miners begins monopolizing one corner, talking about how much gold, oil, coal, natural gas, marble, limestone, salt, etc., etc., they pulled in last week.OOC: No it is not to late to join, but would you mind clarifying what exactly your people are doing and where they actually are.
You see that the hardhat is cut in the relative shape of a crown, while still looking round and, well, hard hattish.
"He must be the head miner if he has such a hardhat; a hardhat in the shape of a crown." Sophia begins to think as she takes her seat at one of the tables. "I wonder why he chose to dress like a miner though....doesn't he have any formal clothes?"

A relatively poor looking miner walks in with a message to the Vice Idiocy. He is dressed in an eloquent suit and doesn't wear a hardhat. An iron pickaxe is strapped to his back, well worn. It seems that miner's gear is the sign of the wealthy and well off.

OOC: Well then I have no problem, though to note it wouldn't be very hard to find a Scandinvan noble woman who smells better then ALI because they rarely even lift a finger in work.
That's very good to know. Now to find one that won't be repulsed by his smell. And one that will understand that most of the colloquial version of English the miners speak is reversed.
Belgium is the f-bomb (of course), idiot means one with a superior intelligence to mine, genius is a wish granting light bulb, etc., etc.

OOC: To understand my nation has a complex culture that has traditions of honor and ritual dating back thousands of years, so everything has to be done a certain way.
IC: The Lady responded in Latin," Does thou not know the ancient pratices needed to ask a daughter of the High Houses of Valgard to dance with a fellow? Yet, you are of lowly birth and I doubt that you even understand what I am saying right now."
He responds in the colloquial form of Latin common in the Spice Mines.
"Tu es clunes et caput."
(Literally, "You are a butt and a head.")
This is obviously meant to be some form of compliment.

He seems appalled. One of his viziers runs up to him, and explains that what the Miners call an enemy is most often referred to friends in the rest of the civilized world.
"Yes, I would also enjoy being your enemy."
The vizier coughs, and Tarren begins stammering, "Er, friend."

"Thank you for the information; I will try to remember it. If you would like, you can sit at this table with me; I'd be glad to talk to you. Could you tell me about yourself, Tarren?"
"Yes. I'm an Idiot."
The translator explains that this means Genius.
"I'm the elected president," the translator explains that this means forced dictator, "of the Spice Mines. My cabinet," party, "have some of the most competent Miners in the country," each of them are less competent than the average actor, "and because of them, our country is very poor, clean, aboveground, law abiding state," it's their fault that we're filthy, filthy rich, stuck in Strip Mines, Coal Mines, mines in general, and rife with crime.
"Now. It's my turn."
The translator indicates that you can begin speaking.
"My nation, the Grand Duchy of Phanar, is a constitutional monarchy; we have a Grand Duke and a Prime Minister. I am the Grand Duchess because I have been married to the Grand Duke for several years; and I have eight children (seven daughters, one son) in total. We are a peaceful nation and we try to make life good for our nation's people. Phanar is a lovely nation; it has plenty of natural beauty. Life for me and my family is generally good."

"The Elder God Gleemax is an almighty brain."
The translator is saying all this. Tarren is speaking in the Gleemaxian form of German. It sounds like Icelandic.
"He created the region known as Gleemax for all to enjoy, but only so if they agreed to worship him. He gave the Spice Mines a crapload of ore, minerals, salt, and nonrenewable resources, more of which are discovered each year, ironically."
He clears his throat, and HSAKI begins talking again.
"The group is his worshipers, all of whom are in the same area. He's frickin' stupid," frickin' sweet.
