TG6R - Emirate Conference [EARTH V ONLY]

THIS IS SIC CLOSED TO ANYONE ELSE! CRETE IS HEAVILY FORTIFIED AND AN ISLAND, SO YOU HAVE NO EARS HERE (except maybe satellites, but don't go around with this stuff like it's public knowledge or I will bash you!)

The Prime Minister arrived only yesterday. The campaign in Nigeria and Cameroon was going relatively well, and good news continued to pour in every day. But there were still left-overs unresolved by the circumstances around Vineyard's silent demise. Or was it a demise? Indeed, that would be a good question to pose when the TG6R representative came around.

In the meantime, the airport at Chania was in full inspections mode, to ensure that no assassins would be arriving. Even with something as low-level as this, there was no reason to have a second assassination attempt in as many days or years, especially with extremism running wild around the world at this time. Wars and rumors of wars were making the people uneasy. The Emirate was planning sending an expeditionary unit to Korea, China's resurgence as a world power was causing some concern, and now Vineyard. Vineyard cut close to home, because Iraq and Kuwait were just next door. Perhaps a deal could be reached with the UCR? But what about their European holdings? Someone would need to take care of them. And Malta. The small dinky island that the Emirate gave in assurance of protection the Mediterranean from foreign influences. Perhaps the Emirate would need to provide for their security again?

It wasn't long before the airport received the Airbus arriving from the Monocracy. In due time, they would talk and these matters would be resolved, among others as well.

"Cleared to land two-niner, Wintershall one heavy," Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Erkenfried Ziegenfuß heard Hauptmann Arnbjørg Jørgensen say over the radio as the aircraft approached Chania International Airport.

It was not a comfortable flight, but was the only aircraft available to transport him from Munich to Crete was this Luftwaffe Airbus A330 tanker. On the Monocratic A380, he was used to having his bedroom. Here, he could only have his own seat, which was normally where the refuelling officer sat.

After landing, the aircraft went to the designed area. After the shutdown checklist, Ziegenfuß walked down the steps, alone (there was no room onboard for security detail).

Ziegenfuß was greeted by the local Greek contingent, who immediately relayed him to the Prime Minister, in residence at the Conference Center in Knossos. It was a comfortable drive to the Cretan country, uniquely mountainous to a deathly extreme. The driver was careful, but it probably gave Ziegenfuß some sick feelings in his stomach [of course, after that airplane ride...]

Prime Minister Hassan eagerly waited at the front of the Center, in the middle of the city, where the Emirate Navy lay outside the port to guard against a foreign intervention. "It's good to see you here on such short notice. I'm sorry for the drive, but we wanted to get this discussion quickly. I'm Prime Minister Yusuf Hassan, and I hope that your voyage was well."

Ziegenfuß was, indeed, feeling sick in his stomach after the mountain adventure. This is why I didn't join the MND, he thought to himself.

He greeted Hassan, "Prime Minister Hassan, it is a pleasure to meet you. I understand that there is much happening in the world right now; I hope my visit leads to greater foreign policy cooperation between ALM and the Monocracy."

Hassan smiled with approval. "It is my hope that we can agree upon the protocols by which our two states can work to establish peace and order in these times. We are aware that the UN has managed to fall into deadlock [more emphasis on the "dead" than the "lock"]. I believe that an attempt to resurrect [perhaps literally] the organization may lead to greater respect for international order. Or perhaps not. What do you think is necessary in these times?"

"Yes, we are currently concerned about international participation in the United Nations. Quite honestly, we're embarrassed about this lack of international involvement; the Monocracy is currently the only member contributing to the United Nations security forces. We would like to see the United Nations as a form to solve international disputes, which we not only hope will be done through the Security Council, but also through the new bodies of the UN that we wish to establish to solve more technical disputes, such as using a world trade organization to mediate trade conflicts."

"True." Hassan nodded for a little while. "But how much power can afford to give the UN before it is capable of making its enforcements work? After all, if the Monocracy is the only country that contributes to its organization, who then will take care of the Monocracy? Indeed, we need to make the UN stronger than simply a forum - it must be a coalition of the righteous and those defenders of peace. And not to speak stringently of military matters as well."

Hassan continued, while a woman came by serving a tray of coffee and mint tea. "I've been troubled by numerous rumors and plots. We've had the death of the Emir. The Vineyardian government is silent as a graveyard. Extremists are continuing their campaigns in the territories of the former Western Kingdom of Kopparbergs, and I'd hate to mention that South Africa is breeding place for pirates now. You would expect that we'd appreciate all of the potential business that those pirates would make for us - as they are diverting the traffic up through the Red Sea - but I have fears that where pirates lie, extremists lie too. The world is incredibly strong, but still unstable. In fact the few civilized countries that have a recognizable government possess the greatest proportion of land and territory, but while there is even one small land with a insignificant population, there is still the potential for a grave conflict. What can the few do?"
