OOC: Open for comments, negotiations or whatever you want to say, yes, I'm also accepting critics and/or despective comments/comparisons against foreign vehicles.

Also, any lineart of this vehicle will be appreciated.

"Saber" Wheeled Reconnaissance Vehicle

After the Trivalvian Civil Conflict, the Soviet Red Army saw that it had several unfulfilled needs in it's arsenal, some of these being an adequate MRLS, a light scout vehicle and a lack of tactical EMP weapons, to name a few. The MRLS was quickly solved with the purchase of domestic production rights to the Lyran LY300, and the EMPs were purchased from Dartia. However, the Recon had to be done by light units uncapable of sustained defensive operations, or even worse, infantry, which was not mobile enough.

Thus, Soviet Arms Corporations was tasked with the job of designing, testing and building a vehicle capable of traversing most terrains without problem so as to provide a difficult target to chase if spotted, but capable of defending itself if needed. Furthermore, it had to fulfill it's main role, which was to serve as a spotter for CAS and artillery units.

At first, engineers in the SAC opted for a tracks, similar to the Puma IFV, but the idea was quickly discarded after tests showed that, while there was an improvement in off-road capabilities, there also was a considerable loss of speed. Therefore, they went for wheeled, and the 6x6 configuration was chosen due to it's versatility, which could be modified to 4x4 if necessary.

The next problem SAC faced was the lack of an indigenous weapon system to install in the vehicle, so far, The World Soviet Party had operated almost exclusively Aequatian-designed vehicles, which came with their own weapons and that the soviets, while liking them, had no rights to copy except to install them in said armoured vehicles. Of course, this meant that SAC personnel had to go back and look at a few old designs they had made when the M1 Phalanx was concieved. From this old information, they were able to completely re-design and re-invent most of the weapons that were to be installed in the M1s (which in the end, were replaced by their Aequatian counter-parts).

Once the guns were finished, the staff could finally dedicate itself to the creation of the "Saber project" (as it had been named), and after a few months, the plans and processes necessary to build, mantain and operate the Sabers were ready.

The last issue faced by the developing teams was that of the armour, which turned out to be too heavy at first. This was solved by modifying some of it's components and adding in the option to install extra-armour on the outside, not to mention that the inside was already impressive.

And so, the project finished, the "Saber WRV" was born.

Weight: Aproximately 24-25 Tonnes

Height: 3 meters

Lenght: 7.76 meters

Width: 2.85 meters

Crew: 3 + 5 (Commander, Gunner, Driver plus 5 passengers)

Armour: Offers full protection against 14.5x114mm rounds and below, limited protection against shaped warheads, almost no (if any) protection against kinetic penetrators, can be upgraded with a modified chobham armour which grants better survivability against HEAT and Sabot rounds. Outside armour, such as side skirts and turret skirts, can be added with little work, a trained crew requiring an hour or less to install them, the skirts provide enhanced protection against AP-rounds.

Primary Armament: Soviet Arms Corporation (SAC) Model-06 Mk. III 35mm Autocannon, 180 rounds/min. rapid shot, 690 rounds/max fully auto.

Secondary Armament: Coaxial MG2C1 HMG (chambered for 14.5x114mm), Turret-mounted Remote-Controlled SAC IB 40mm AGL Mk. I, "Lance" or "Halberd" ATGM Launchers.

Ammo Storage: 1,500 14.5x114mm rounds, 20 Orange Smoke Grenades for CAS Marking, 20 Green Smoke Grenades for Artillery Marking, 40 40mm HE-Grenades for Anti-Personnel Use, 450 35mm Rounds (150 ready to use, 300 in storage).

Engine: Soviet Automotive Industries Light Combat Model 4, WSP-V20-MF-M4, Liquid-Cooled, V-10 Cylinder, 4-stroke exhaust, Multi-Fuel Engine (Primary: Regular diesel), developing 650 HP (484,9 kW).

Power/Weight: 26 HP/Tonne

Suspension: 6x6 Wheeled

Operational Range: Aproximately 700 Km

Speed: 100 Km/h, 10 Km/h swimming in water

Goodies: Laser Designator/Range-Finder, GPS and shiz, full NBC protection, "Panic Button", Smoke Dischargers (grey), door in the back for passenger exit, hatch in the top for crew exit, all the electronics goodies you'd expect to find in a modern combat vehicle.

INFLUENCES: Puma IFV, Warrior TAV, Spähpanzer Luchs.

[OOC: Have you thought about posting the design on the NS Draftroom (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom)? Otherwise, your vehicle probably uses chobham-like armor to achieve protection versus 14.5mm ammunition. My new vehicle, the HIM-TAC (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13424494&postcount=31) (a HMMWV replacement) has an in-depth write-up, especially on the armor, which offers insight on light armored vehicle protection, if you're interested.]

OOC: I have posted the design in the NS draftroom, namely in this thread here: Saber Thread NS Draftroom (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=1238)

As for armour write-ups, as much as I like to do them, I do not possess the technical knowledge nor the skill to do them.
