ooc: This is mainly a rp thread of the economic crash of my nation after such a booming time of the economy. Eventually, the crash turnes into a revolution. You can send aid if you want, but again, this is mainly a rp. Will post map later.

Jublife City (http://matrix.millersamuel.com/wp-content/paris/parisnight.jpg)(aka Juvlii), City Streets

The congressional capital on the Demer river had experienced prosperous booms in its tourism and manufacturing for the past few years. Indeed, the reformation of the monarchy had done nothing to hurt the economy, but it helped instead. The wealthy and the riched enjoyed being in the center of the country, as well as politics. The movement of the capital from Canalive City to Juvlii had not affected most, but the 3 branches of Parliament, the House of Commons, Nobles, and Lords, were slowley turning into an aristocracy, turning power into mear factor of wealth and power in the state.

For the populace, the times were booming, and hardly paid attention to the screwed up forms of politics, for they were most distracted about their own lives and well being. But there were still the strains on the middle and lower class, who lived in shanty apartments, small condos, multi-family homes, even cardboard boxes, who reconized that their representatives, the House of Commons, was losing its power in the state.

As for the wealthy, and the highest in intellect in society, were left undistrubed and in happier times, the lower wealthy class was represented by the House of Nobles, and didn't even think about the lower branches of the people. And the highest class sawght more power in the House of Lords, who controled the most influence, and everything for them was total bliss. But that would about to take a nasty turn on them, and to their slightly lower income friends........

Canalive City, National Stock Market

The investors were into the market like crazy in the early morning of the day, and then...it happened.

The IIA (International Industrial Average), took a slight curve in the stock value early in the morning, and the panicing investors quickly started to sell of their stock before they thought it would be worthless. This only made the price go even lower, and the market as a whole started to decline. The main industry and service stocks droped quickly, and investors lost over 30 trillion dollars. And then banks, who loaned money to the investors, started to close down, for they couldn't get back their money, people lost billions in savings accounts in the banks, so the recession began....

The Zoingonian Times

Recession a Reality

This morning in the International Stock market, the value of stocks droped over 1000 points, and millions lost trillions of dollars in the investment, most big businesses have taken a huge hit, and trade is down by over 1/3 due to merchant vessle siezure by not paying back loans. Banks all over Canalive, Bostonia, New Songdo, and Corpus Christi have lost over 30 state banks and about 10 internaitonal banks at least, making countries that invested in Zoingo lose their savings. Parliament has not responded yet to the catastrophe, but hopes to get something worked out before the treasury runs dry.

Small groups of government officials stood outside Atythera Hall, the headquarters for the Imperial Secriat of Commerce. The news of economic recesion in Zoingo had hit hard. At least in some shipping buisnesses and in the Commerce Secriat. Zoingo was an important ally and trading partner to the Empire. Something had to be done.

And it was.

The news of a recession in the Zoingan economy has recently come to our attention. As an ally of the Empire, and a participant in a fair portion of Imperial trade, we feel that is our duty, and in our mutual best interests, to provide a financial grant to the Zoingan government to be distributed to failing banks. We would like to send a representative to help calculate the correct amount.

OOC: Sorry Zoingo, it's standard procedure to further impoverish you. I'd suggest filing for economic recession with LION. But anyways, my next post gets to be the factory conditions of Buy & Sell! If that doesn't lead to riots, I don't know what will. And Buy & Sell's reactions to riots are even better.

The Economic Looking Glass
Zoingo's Sinking Economy, and What Vantanas is Doing

Today, after horrid market perfomance in Zoingo and a rapid coming depression, Vantanian business persons completely pulled out of the Zoingan market. The stock holders, primarily investing in the strong banking business, have all cut their losses and sold their stocks for cheap. As a result, the businesses in question all took dramatic hits, and at least one banking company has gone out of business due to the withdrawl.

Other investors, the so-called "State Investors"*, pulled out of Zoingo as well. As any reasonably educated economist knows, many governments allow investments in them, particularily at war time, and pay interest on these investments. Generally, this is all that happens, the investors getting rich long term and the government getting needed short term money. Occasionally, an investor demands a full return. Domestic citizens usually get the money back by not having to pay as many taxes, but for foreign citizens, the money has to be given upfront, and always in USD's. When done en masse as the State Investors have done, this can make the government poorer, losing money from important areas of the budget.

Seeing an open market, CEO Tucker Boot of Buy & Sell Incorporated jumped into the market with bared fangs. In all of the major cities, and half of the minor settlements, his men are buying factories or directly making them. This will, undoubtedly, save many factory owners from going bankrupt. As per tradition, lower class Vantanians and immigrants into Vantanas will be brought in to do the work, as the Zoingan minimum wage is too high for the tastes of Buy & Sell.

In order to protect Vantanian Buy & Sell employs in the Free Republic, the government has raised tariffs to the highest amount allowed under the LION Charter, keeping Buy & Sell goods in Zoingo from costing less than Buy & Sell goods in Vantanas. This is traditional, but will be pricey for the Zoingans who trade with us, most likely leading to Zoingan lower class citizens losing jobs to maintain trade.

ooc: Thats okay :D

The news from Kirav and from Greal sounded promising to some, but the news from Vontanas, lead to resientment among many. Merchants threw wild protest as well as lower class workers. The currency, the Zinger, went from .988 to 3.455 USD exchange rate in a matter of a week, and the market plunged even further, loosing a hundred more points in 6 days. The high tarrifs ment many to flee to the countryside to seek work, the massive influx seemed to overwelm those who resided in rural areas. And the media was overwelmed by the current state of things.

Clip from Readers Weekly Magazine
Riots, Recession, and Trade, the Economy at its worst

The economy in the past few days has been at its worst in decades, far beyond its normal standards. And the nation of Vontanas, the LION head, has done nothing except hurt the country even more it seemes, with higher tarrif prices on products imported from the Commonwealth. The market is in ablaze, and most the economy is in shambles.

For over three centuries, Zoingo's trade (a forign nation-nation-forign nation trade style, unlike the standard forign nation-nation style of trade) accounts for over half of the national income that the Country relies on. With it in ruins, most turn back to the agricultural and manufacturing sector, also experiencing some problems. Now, some seek to migrate to the overseas colonies, which do provide a great ammound of the countries goods that are exported, but while this is going on, are there other things that the country has overlooked?

It seemes that with the recession, the upper branch of Parliament, the House of Lords, is taking over the madders of the country, which they only represent a fraction of the mismanaged populace, before, we were so concerned with the economy that most of us didn't have time to look deep into politics, but now, is our government turning from a monarchy, into an aristocracy in one of the nation's darkest chapters?

--------------------------

The article represented a growing number of people who, up untill now, did not but now are concerned with the government and its screwed up policies to benifit the upper class of society. But eventually, there had to be resistance.....

News of the fallout in Zoingo hit the Orzi news cycle shortly after the news from Vontanas was announced to Zoingo. Orzi trade with Zoingo had never been much more than the cursory amounts due to treaty obligations, so the Orzi Stock Market didn't really take much of a hit, even with the falling Zinger. However, crafty entrepenuers(sp) saw a chance to roll the dice. Soon calls were going out to invest in Zoingan(?) banks and investment firms. Bids were put up for goods produced in Zoingo, now going at severely discounted prices. The government took a little longer to decide a course of action, and is currently debating an aide package that will be going up for vote soon.

Generic Town

When the factory came to the town, life had changed dramatically. At first, the unemployed were joyous, finally freedom from the recession. But then, to their dismay, even as the aristocratic construction company finished the job, it was filled with workers. This in itself was not a bad thing, but it was who the workers were: Vantanians. Lower class Vantanians, immigrants into Vantanas, and, most recently, upper class children earning extra money to support their families. They were enraged, and they petitioned, protested, and lobbied for the allowance of the general populace into the factories to work. Had they known the horrors of the job, they would have surely reconsidered.

First, the Aristrocratic youth were either shifted to guard duty, or promoted to administration, and given a certain amount of money each week. They used it to make sure that things in their corner of the factory complex were running smoothly, maintain the machines, pay the workers, et cetera. What was left over was theirs as weekly wages, and because of this many in the administration didn't pay for important, but costly, safety features, and the workers were paid the bare minimum wage at most.

As the workers walked, or the richer riding bicycles, to work* in the winter, many without decent cloths, they passed under the menacing gateway, not noticing the murder holes in the roof. The trudged along to the factory door, and opened it, trading freezing colds for blistering heats. Pouring sweat in no time, they wandered dazed into the factory. With the red smoke clouding their minds, it was only with the help of the bright signs that they got to the Assembly Line. This particular factory made cars that were then shipped to markets in Africa. Their hands burned, despite the callouses, (sp?) as they poured the blazing metal into the casts, and as soon as it became dry enough to hold form grasped them and started assembling them into a car. Recently, a more caring aristocrat resolved to get gloves for the workers, and saving money, made them out of useless rubber from tires. If they dropped the parts due to heat, they would have to be reforged. This crime, and stopping due to exhaustion, lead to factorial guards whipping dissidents for losing the factory precious profit. Because of this, the cars were made fast, and with Vantanian designs were able to swamp the market. These cheap, yet good, cars were more than enough to put the Zoingan competitors spiralling down in sales.

A large, concrete wall had been built around the complex, and on it aristocratic teenage boys marched in the traditional black leather uniforms, their officers having red trim. They carried guns, with real bullets, and had large shields to protect themselves from any attack. Each of them had a certain amount of grenades, mostly just a single explosive one. Meanwhile, in the stretch of field between the factory and wall, there were mines, wires, foot traps**, and more, all unactivated as of yet. The only section that didn't have this was the dirt path leading from the heavy iron gates to the factory door, but it was heavily mined. Four turrets on the factory had larger guns, powerful sorts of things, that could be fire at things beyond the walls with deadly force. And below these, amplified by a mirror system, were floodlights capable of blinding anything looking at the factory. The final, and arguably most savage, line of defense lay in cages below the bunkers: Dogs. Strong, brutal, savage dogs, with filed teeth and claws.

The factory was like a brutal castle, and the profits it turned out were more than enough to pay for the defense system. The factor manager, a veteran from the similar country of Siriusa, was obese. He knew what was needed to beat the proles into submission, and by God if he didn't do it. And, of course, there would be a riot soon by the proletariat due to the outrageous conditions. When it came, they would see the rage of Buy & Sell. With Zoingan business failing to provide real competition with the Vantanians, they would soon have no where else to turn to. Many of them, barely earning enough to keep themselves fed, didn't have anywhere else to turn to at all.

*The richer of the proletariat have bikes, the poorer walk. I figured they'd sell their cars to sustain themselves a little longer before they were given work in the factories.

Parliament, Jublife City

The depression and economic strife had started to hit home, and everyone started to feel the effects, and in the House, things did not sound well....several from each estate were squabbling on how to deal with the situation. And it was hard to tell who was talking.....

"It is obvious, the government must regulate prices for businesses."
"That would ruin the economy even further, making the poorer even less represented."
"Why should we even represent the lower house? They hardly now-a-days do anything in the Commons, besides, the other 2 houses represent interestes."
"Yeah, wealth interests."
"Still, the poor hardly participate, and now, bill 359-B has been put into effect."
A searies of the word what? went sweaping across one side of the chamber.
"The economic representation act? That was put down by the Commons and Nobles."
"Yes, but the House of Lords overided that."
"They had no authority to do such thing."
"Yes, we were providing for the common good."
"You mean the wealthy's good."
"No!"
"Yes!"
"ORDER.......I SAID ORDER!" Yelled House Leader Lord Calvant, and a silence filled the room. "Now, If the act has been passed, the Lower house gets more representatives, and the upper house gets more power, am I correct?"

"Yes, but it benifits the wealthy at the top...."
"But you have more representatives, compared to ours."
"Our number wont mean anything if it is devalued by economic standard!"

This is going to be a long recession, thought Calvant, and while he blanked out in all of the yelling, he looked outside of his window, looking at the city, and the protesters outside of the building, demanding a better economic standard.

Borlin Palace, Jublife City

King Ragnald looked outside his window, he sighed, his country was in peril, and no matter how many acts or budget plans to benifit his nation he tried to pursuade Parliament to pass, they always were torn up, and then redone, and then he would have to veto them, and the new plans failed, which pleased him. And with the situation only worsening, he was basicly stuck here, with his family, untill they could find a way. Then, his Prime Minister walked in, the most wise and knowledgeable person in the Commonwealth.

"Roland, what do you think will happen?" he asked.

"Your majesty, at this point, even I dont know, but I would suggest canceling all upper class privledges, including the House of Lords." Roland recomended.

"With the new act in place, they could just remove me from power." he replied.

"What about the Upper Courts...." Roland started to say, but the king interrupted him.

"The House of Lords and Nobles can declare the courts desicion invalid now, and they can also remove the justices." Ragnald explained.

"How could you let the act slip by you? Even when Im here monitering Parliament?" Roland asked.

"Because it was a 10 day blind fold, it was during the movement of the capital from Canalive to Juvlii, and they had mysteriously passed the bill, and when I didn't sign it, by law it automaticly went into effect." he explained.

"Well then, the country is in a pickle." Roland commented, then he bowed, and left.

Ragnald only sighed, what to do now?

"Yes!" they all yelled back.
"And what has our govenrnment done for us?"

"And this new, Economic Representation act, with now all representation being of a simple wealth factor, does that seam fair?"

The crowed cheered and roared, to those at the bottom, they were about to get back on top.

All around the country, Buy & Sell was buying water. Be it canals, reservoires, rivers, Buy & Sell bought it. Although, occasionally, there were those that resisted, but to these bold idiots, barrels of factory waste would soon reach their water supplies, always, unless held by an aristocrat. The rest were all poisoned.

With this choking grip on the nation's water supply, a simple proclamation was sent out.

"OFFICIAL CORPORATE RULING

In conjunction with the House of Lords and the House of Nobles, the Buy & Sell Corporation has now declared that all people found connected to the House of Commons are ineligible to purchase water from the Corporation water sources. Connections to the House of Commons would include:

1. Being a relative as close as or closer than the second cousin, even by marriage, of a Commoner*.
2. Voting in a House of Commons elections.
3. Sending money to a Commoner, or to a man known to send money to a Commoner.
4. Being a Commoner
5. Et cetera.

*Commoner=A member of the House of Commons"

This was devastating news. Many people would be choked of water, though the richer would be able to purchase water from the few remaining reservoirs. The next week, similar attacks started pouring out on a vital business in this weakened nation: Agriculture. Barrels of industrial waste were found deep in the corn fields, or buried with the seeds, or near one of the few canals that fed the farms.

And across the nation, rumors went out about the Buy & Sell Corporation. They were hiring the bourgeoise to destroy the proletariat. They had vast supplies of water and grains below their factories. They were sending out bounties for the Commoners, fed by the news that several prominent reformist Commoners had vanished, and now the rumor was that they were being held in subterranean prisons below the factory. And in every factory town, city, and village, whisperings of attacking the factories circulated.
