The Cosmic Historical Charts

Pre-Exitiabilis Incursio (Rise)
~80,000 PEI - A mysterious race of beings referred to as Atlanteans who left records of their existence in the Templar Worlds suddenly disappear from the known galaxy. They leave writings of advanced evolutionary states that include extreme intelligence, psionic abilities, and incorporeal states, make many believe they are a highly advanced society.

~24,000 PEI - The first of the Templars comes into existence in what became known as the Temple Worlds. It is the grand beginnings of a civilization.

~20,000 PEI - The Templar Worlds, until thus point contained in a single star system, develop interstellar space travel with the establishment and stabilization of wormholes. This new ability allows them to travel to nearby star systems, and with greater efficiency overtime, to farther and farther away ones. This innovation marks the true beginnings of the Temple Worlds as an empire.

~10,000 PEI - Through a mixture of diplomacy, bartering, and military force where necessary, the Temple Empire has expanded to twelve systems and over seventy planets. Generally, the expansion came through peaceful means, though some "unagreeable" peoples were subjugated or destroyed. Most encountered sentient races were human in nature, contributing to a growing xenophobic nature when encountering non-human races. Due to a natural elevated intelligence and prosperous existence, technology and science has developed enormously.

~50 PEI - The Temple Empire reaches its height with fifty-five systems and roughly four hundred twenty-five planets. The Templars' military power, infrastructure, technology, and standard of living are incredibly high. They are the dominant power in their slice of the galaxy, knowing few other free races in the known sector.

Pre-Exitiabilis Incursio (Decline)
0-25 DEI - A great and powerful evil struck upon the outer rims of the Temple Worlds. They appeared out of nowhere, from the vast expanse of space, and assaulted the colonial worlds without mercy, launching wave after wave of ships against the Temple Fleets. Within months the enemy had drawn the name "Miknos" or Demons for their unrelenting and brutal attacks upon the military and civilian populations. They were ruthless, slaughtering all in their path and paving a road of destruction through the known galaxy. Slowly, the once proud and mighty Temple Empire was crumbling beneath the nigh invincible force of the Demons. However, their bloody massacre of innocent souls gave birth to a hero: a young enlistee who rose through the ranks from Private to Lieutenant to Admiral... to finally the "Last Captain."

The war raged on for a quarter century, but a spec in time for the galaxy, but a whole generation of man who had known naught but death. Slowly, as the empire crumbled one planet, one system at a time, so dwindled the hopes of humanity. Outbound fleet after fleet had been vanquished by the Demons, until there was none left to send to the aid of the nearby systems. With no more assistance in the final war, the systems fell like dominoes to the great devils, and millions died with every passing day. Even the great strategist, High Admiral Archibald could not turn the tides of war. Finally, all that was left was the home-world fleet dedicated to defending Temple Prime, the Capital of the Temple civilization.

25- DEI - And so, with the last light of hope dwindling, the Templars decided to attempt one last hailmary before their inevitable destruction. A single carrier ship was sent out on Operation: Darkness Falls led by the Last Captain. For years they had sent out impressive battalions of ships only to be met in battle and defeated, but now they sent out only one ship in an attempt to sneak by the enemy. With the foreign fleets closing on the Temple home-world, the scientists thought they might have found a secret to defeating the enemy... a secret cargo stored on the ship should they reach their rendezvous point. A lightly armored carrier - built two years earlier for a new strategy of focusing on small independent fighters rather than a battleships' weapons - and a crew of pilots against the combined powers of the Demon fleets.

Only three weeks into their journey, they were ambushed by five black-hulled battleships and unable to escape as their 'drive engines' were knocked out. The battle raged, but fate was not long in drawing out the inevitable doom. After ordering an evacuation, the Admiral and ship exploded like a super nova. The fate of the evacuated crew is unknown as is the status of the last Templar system of planets, but all are assumed to be dead.

The ten ship Esper Strike Force are the only known survivors. As they entered a wormhole directed towards their home-world, but the nova sent them flying past their destination to the edges of the Solar System. Now they struggle to exist in a foreign environment as they decide on their course of action...

Applied Industrial Science

The Templar Empire developed some of the most advanced technology in the known galaxy during its reign. Advanced theorists focused on the most mind boggling projects like establishing Artificial Intelligence, Jump-Drives, Sub-Neutrino Linkage, and a Philotic Network. Other scientists developed more commonly used technologies that overtime made life more and more easy. All-in-one technologies with powerful computational elements and neural-interfaces have made inanely easy for the average Templar.

"The Espers are wonderful ships. Capable of serving as living and combat quarters for five people in such a contained space, packed with the most advanced technology in the Templar world including a jump-drive, an AI that was connected to each individual's suit, the entire Templar databases, and a mission length only held back on how long the crew was willing to live on nutritional bars. They were fierce machines of genius-design... except that most major repairs could only be done from the outside and thus they were out of luck."

Faster-Than-Light Travel
In physics, a wormhole is a hypothetical topological feature of spacetime that is essentially a 'shortcut' through space and time. A wormhole has at least two mouths which are connected to a single throat or tube. If the wormhole is traversable, matter can 'travel' from one mouth to the other by passing through the throat.

Special relativity only applies locally. Wormholes allow superluminal (faster-than-light) travel by ensuring that the speed of light is not exceeded locally at any time. While traveling through a wormhole, subluminal (slower-than-light) speeds are used. If two points are connected by a wormhole, the time taken to traverse it would be less than the time it would take a light beam to make the journey if it took a path through the space outside the wormhole. However, a light beam traveling through the wormhole would always beat the traveler. As an analogy, running around to the opposite side of a mountain at maximum speed may take longer than walking through a tunnel crossing it. You can walk slowly while reaching your destination more quickly because the length of your path is shorter.

Thousands of years ago, using lots of energy to maintain, the Templars developed technology to establish and stabilize wormholes from fixed locations and subsequently in the midst of space. Eventually, as the technology advanced and became smaller (as technology does), the device was added to the Espers so that they could individually establish wormholes rather than rely on large ships. Using wormhole space travel, the Templars were able to quickly traverse many star systems and expand their empire. However, wormholes become progressively harder and require more energy the longer the distances they connect, so deep space travel has been limited.

Tech-Suite
The Tech-Suite, known commonly as the T-Suite, is the standard military operations suite of technologies. It is designed for maximum usage, reliability, and redundancy so that the user can use it in whatever way is most comfortable. It includes (incomplete list): one wrist-panel, one temple-visor, one index-manipulator, and one philotic-connector. While the wrist-panel as a miniature computer and display attached to the wrist is a fairly basic technology in the galaxy (by normal standards), the others have required substantial research and development costs. The various technologies have been described as follows:

Philotic-Connector
"When Gideon tried to explain it to her in depth, she was completely baffled. In the end, much to his dismay and pain, he said something along the lines of: 'The Universe is to the Brain is to the Computer.' It still didn't mean much to her, but from what she knew of Templar study into Cerebral Evolution, it meant that the Universe was a super powerful and complex computer. Apparently, the Templar scientists had been able to develop a machine to interface with the sub-neutrino levels of matter and utilize their connections to create a virtually endless memory bank. Further study into advanced computations and ideation had been underway when the Demons interrupted their steady world."

Temple-Visor
"Armina briskly moved her left hand to the side of her head. Hidden behind smooth brown locks of hair, a small circular device with a red glowing center and slight rectangular extension in the front was sealed against her temple. It wasn't quite apparent whether it was just pressed against the skin or an implant, but it was obvious that it was one of the Templar's numerous technological 'goodies'. It connected to the visual cortex of the brain and created a head-up display window in front of their eyes. On the blue holo-screen, visible only in her mind's eye, a list of data was scrolling in front of her. Gideon, still in Esper-1 working away on the situation-report, was sending information on the status of the ships."

Index-Manipulator
"Her right hand slid from behind her head and stood floating midair, resting its elbow on the bedding. Above the wrist-panel that encompassed an extended area from the wrist down a few inches was a black, textured glove, which was missing any covering for just the fourth and fifth fingers. With just a wave of the hand, a screen appeared about two feet in front of her. Writing was appearing without any effort then disappearing again to be replaced by different words. To the right of the main pad area a list was accruing different items and below it several official bullet points appeared occasionally. It was all a part of another ingenious technology that the Templars had designed for personal use and that Armina couldn't even begin to fathom how it worked. It literally visualized the user's thoughts for them, creating a list of topics, important points, and links to relevant information in the database. All without any effort. She used in times like these in which her mind was overloaded and there was so much to think about."

Zero Point Module
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d2/Zeropointmodule.jpg/180px-Zeropointmodule.jpg
A ZPM is shaped like a rough cylinder, perhaps twelve to eighteen inches in length, and six to eight inches diameter. They are made of a yellow/orange crystalline material, with black etchings of some unknown material. It is an power generating device designed by Templar scientists and only compatible with specially designed consoles.

Zero Point Modules are so named because they use zero point energy. Zero point energy is present in all quantum mechanical systems (i.e. everything that uses energy and converts it to entropy). Zero point energy is the lowest amount of energy that such a quantum mechanical system can have. It is also commonly referred to as vacuum energy and remains when all matter is removed from a region of space. Since by definition zero point energy can never be depleted (a region of space can never have less than that amount), it is theoretically an unlimited and free energy source.

The energy is said to arise from various particles that spontaneously emerge, exist for fractions of a second, and are then annihilated by anti-particles. At very small distances (~10-35 meters) this particle/anti-particle turbulence is known as quantum foam, and it is theorized to be a remnant of the birth of the universe carried over to this day. (Also partially explained in the hypothesis is that not all matter in the universe is evenly distributed). This variation in energy is somewhat analogous to observing common objects under very small scales.

Despite the two particles annihilating each other, a small amount of energy is detectable (demonstrated by the Casimir effect). Because of the immensely small scales of time and size, as well as the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, the existence and subsequent annihilation of these particles does not violate the conservation of energy. The individual particles are thought to be generated perhaps by photons interacting with the space.

As built by the Templars, a ZPM is a container of a large region of vacuum subspace instead of normal space, so that its size is manageable. The ZPM draws power from the zero point energy, a tiny amount from each small bit of the enclosed subspace that adds up to unimaginable power in total. Theoretically the ZPM should never become depleted, but since all mechanical devices have imperfections, it is likely there is a miniscule amount of loss in the system that eventually leads to the last of the energy leaving the ZPM.

The Three Levels of Dynamic-Cognizance

Noted scientist and theorist Vander Archon established a system of evolutionary cognizance and ability based around the unique evolutionary process that the Atlanteans were said to have gone through. The Atlanteans lived tens of thousands of years before the Templars came into existence (and have since disappeared), but the records left behind indicated rapid evolutionary stages thought impossible or fantastical by common human thought. It was normal to hear words such as psionic abilities, telepathy, telekinesis, foresight, and even talk of Ascension. Ascension was a process by which sufficiently-evolved sentient beings may shed their physical bodies and live eternally as pure energy on a higher plane of existence full of knowledge and power. It is a mental, spiritual or evolutionary enlightenment that can arise as the direct result of achieving a certain level of wisdom and self-knowledge.

Looking at their own unevolved existence millennia after the records were written, some theorists believed the writings to be ideas and hopes for the future of man. However, Archon believed differently. Thinking of the human mind as a computer, he stipulated that just as it was possible to quickly add potential to a computer, so was true with the mind. Instead of looking eons into the future, he believed that the human mind could go under rapid evolution. Archon, basing his beliefs and the entire Templar categorical system of cognizance on these records, established his law of three unique levels. The Computational spectrum, as Bacon's Corollary would later identify, was the easiest to define and understand with proof of each level's existence. The Cerebral spectrum - that of man - was, although now mostly accepted, based on the Atlantean records. Finally, the most mysterious and least understood was the Universal spectrum of which besides the first two phases, only speculation exists.

Archon's Law: "There exist exactly three unique levels of cognizance divided strictly by their primary essences:"
------- 1. Universal
------- 2. Cerebral
------- 3. Computational

Bacon's Corollaries:

------- 1. "Ascending Archon Levels become increasingly complex and powerful with sufficient understanding."
------- 2. "Descending Archon Levels become increasingly complex and powerful with insufficient understanding."

LeRoux's Principle: "Every level and sub-level of Dynamic-Cognizance can be further broken down into smaller sub-levels, extending to infinity."

LeRoux's Exemption: "Concerning the LeRoux Principle, the hypothetical Phase 10 level of the Universal evolutionary process has no sub-levels or partial states. Like it's nature and definition, it is complete and absolute."

Universal
Phase 10: Omni-Pantom - Essentially the convergence of all the power and knowledge in the universe - Godlike powers - with the magnitude of everything in existence. Unlike equivalent final stages of evolution for the Cerebral and Computational spectrums, Phase 10 has no sub-levels as per the "LeRoux Exemption." It is the highest level of cognizance and is thus unsurpassable; however, by its very nature it is only hypothetical and unprovable.
Phase 9: Unknown - ?
Phase 8: Unknown - ?
Phase 7: Unknown - ?
Phase 6: Unknown - ?
Phase 5: Unknown - ?
Phase 4: Unknown - ?
Phase 3: Unknown - ?
Phase 2: Philotic Network - A naturally occurring entanglement of philotic strands that gives life to what can be thought of as a nearly infinitely powerful computer with sentience and sapience. However, through some act of the cosmos, it only existed after being accessed for the first time (with the proper equipment).
Phase 1: Sub-Neutrino Linkage - The connection of tiny sub-particles of matter via quantum bridges creates a nearly endless database for information storage. In lay terms, every miniscule part of matter can be thought of as a hard disk, and when linked together it creates a massive vault for storing information. However, to access it, one needs the right technology.

Cerebral
Stage 10: Ascension - The final evolutionary step in man's existence is, like the Computation Level 10 Artificial Intelligence, a controversial and extreme jump from previous Stages. Upon achieving Ascension, people generally shed their physical forms and live via their incorporeal on a higher plane of existence. Though one human cannot possess or control all of it, Ascension opens the entire knowledge and power of the universe. As AI is to becoming Cerebral, Ascension is to becoming Universal. Ascension is a process by which sufficiently-evolved sentient beings may shed their physical bodies and live eternally as pure energy on a higher plane of existence full of knowledge and power. It is a mental, spiritual or evolutionary enlightenment that can arise as the direct result of achieving a certain level of wisdom and self-knowledge. Standard Neuron Firing: 100%
Stage 9: Psychokinesis - Psychokinesis is essentially Mind-over-Matter, the ability to control the external world via cerebral thoughts. Psychokinetic abilities include: telekinesis, as in projecting pure force or moving objects with the mind; pyrokinesis, exciting molecules so that the resulting heat combusts into fire; electokinesis, control of electrons or electrical energy; cryokinesis, deceleration of molecules, resulting in objects becoming more cold and proceed towards solidification. Stage 9 evolution of the mind is basically the "Overran." Standard Neuron Firing: 90%
Stage 8: Psycho-Metabolism - While not quite Mind-over-Matter, Psycho-Metabolic Abilities are more like Mind-over-Metabolism whether it be a foreign body or one's own. Metabolic abilities include: changing resistances to pain and other environmental factors either higher or lower; accelerated growth, allowing one to develop cells and organism beyond natural speeds, as well as cause increase that will lead to accelerated degeneration and death; and the most common of increased healing, empowering the natural function of most cells to heal at increased rates. Standard Neuron Firing: 80%
Stage 7: Telepathy - Telepathy is the ability to communicate from one mind to another (with the other not necessarily being telepathic) without the use of physical senses or means. Examples of Telepathy are Mind Reading, Thought Communication, Mental Attacks and Defenses, Mind Control of varying degrees (from influencing thoughts to total submission), and Projecting Illusions.Standard Neuron Firing: 70%
Stage 6: Extrasensory Perception - Extrasensory perception (ESP) is the purported ability to acquire information by paranormal means independent of any known physical senses or deduction from previous experience. It is used to denote psychic abilities such as precognition and retrocognition, the knowledge of future and past events, clairvoyance, the awareness of people, objects or events, and remote viewing, seeing events and images without physically being possible to see them. It is often, fittingly, called the "Mind's Eye." Standard Neuron Firing: 60%
Stage 5: Mental Malleability - Since early childhood, synaptic connections and brain cells decline from a maximum level until they stabilize in adulthood. However, upon Stage 5 evolution, the cerebrum gains the unconscious ability to recreate synapses and cells, thereby renewing and greatly improving the mind's ability to take in information. Essentially, the "moldable and expanding" mind allows a person to learn in a much quicker and more efficient manner, taking on great amounts of information without losing any ability to recall it. Standard Neuron Firing: 50%
Stage 4: Advanced Cognition - While intelligence and quickness of mind continue to increase as in previous stage evolutions, advanced cognition almost seems to create ideas and understanding in one's mind. There is inherently infinite information and perfect understanding in the universe and the mind appears to have hidden some of that information deep inside. Researchers equated it to unlocking the "ends" rather than increasing the "means to the ends." Standard Neuron Firing: 40%
Stage 3: Extra-Human Intelligence - Stage 3 Cerebrums have reached a point that normal human minds that have undergone no evolution can never achieve. The ability for computations, learning, understanding, and advanced thought are greatly exaggerated. Standard Neuron Firing: 30%
Stage 2: Genius Level Mind - A genius is a person of great intelligence, who shows an exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work. Geniuses always show strong individuality and imagination, and are not only intelligent, but also unique and innovative. Genius may come in a variety of forms, such as mathematical genius, literary genius, or poetic genius, etc. Artistic genius may show itself in early childhood as a prodigy or later in life; either way, geniuses eventually differentiate themselves from the others through great originality. Intellectual geniuses often have crisp, clear-eyed visions of given situations, in which interpretation is unnecessary, and they build or act on the basis of those facts, usually with tremendous energy. Accomplished geniuses in intellectual fields start out in many cases as child prodigies, gifted with superior memory or understanding. Standard Neuron Firing: 20%
Stage 1: Average Human - The average human is defined as having an intelligence quotient of 100. One is not an expert or significant mind in any field of study and does not stand out from a group in terms of intellect. However, unlike most levels of Computational Cognizance, humans possess the ability of unique thought, contemplation, and creativity. Standard Neuron Firing: 10%

Computational
Level 10: Artificial Intelligence - According to LeRoux's Principle, each sub-level can be further broken down into smaller sub-levels, none more true than when dealing with Artificial Intelligence. The most basic definition is when the ability to give non-living material, generally a machine, intelligence. It can also mean creating a technological singularity in which the computer gains the ability to advance technology and science beyond human ability. It can be the bestowing of sapience or sentience to a computer. In it's most extreme form, artificial intelligence deals with creating a "non-biological human" meaning all of the same mental capacity and abilities, though often more extreme. For this reason, some have equated the varying extents of Computational Level 10 with the early (1-4) Cerebral Stages. However, while Archon recognized that similar and nearly-identical crossovers between the levels could occur, he specifically defined them as unique and stated that in equivalences of ability, the higher level reigns.
Level 9: Quantum Computer - A quantum computer is any device for computation that makes direct use of distinctively quantum mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform operations on data. In a classical (or conventional) computer, information is stored as bits; in a quantum computer, it is stored as qubits (quantum bits). The basic principle of quantum computation is that the quantum properties can be used to represent and structure data, and that quantum mechanisms can be devised and built to perform operations with this data. Performance would increase exponentially over earlier level computers.
Level 8: Optical Computer - An optical computer is a computer that uses light instead of electricity (i.e. photons rather than electrons) to manipulate, store and transmit data. Photons have fundamentally different physical properties than electrons, and researchers have attempted to make use of these properties to produce computers with performance and/or capabilities greater than those of electronic computers.
Level 7: Super Computer - A super computer significantly elevates the level computational and analytic ability. However, it is generally a relative term to the time, but at higher levels can not be created. It is generally defined as a computer that, upon its creation, performed significantly more impressive than any other computer or network of computers. When a super computer was created, it would generally outdate entire networks and buildings of computers that had been linked together to perform the same task.
Level 6: Nanocomputer - The advent of the nanocomputer continues the trend of decreasing size while maintaining operational abilities. Cost-allowing, they can be used in very basic products to do menial tasks or used as a personal computer just on a smaller scale.
Level 5: Personal Computer - A personal computer is a computer whose original sales price, size, and capabilities make it useful for individuals, intended to be operated directly by an end user, with no intervening computer operator. A personal computer may be a home computer, or may be found in an office, often connected to a local area network. The distinguishing characteristics are that the computer is used only by one person at a time, in a very interactive fashion.
Level 4: Multi-bit Microprocessor - A microprocessor incorporates the functions of a central processing unit on a single integrated circuit. The first microprocessors used a word size of only 4 bits, so that the transistors of its logic circuits would fit onto a single part. One or more microprocessors typically serve as the processing elements of a computer system, embedded system, or handheld device. Microprocessors made possible the advent of the personal computer.
Level 3: Mainframe - Nearly all mainframes have the ability to run (or host) multiple operating systems and thereby operate not as a single computer but as a number of virtual machines. In this role, a single mainframe can replace dozens or even hundreds of smaller servers, reducing management and administrative costs while providing greatly improved scalability and reliability.
Level 2: Programmable Device - Though in the most basic forms a programmable device is simply a machine designed to perform a task, eventually it became a high-speed, purely electronic, Turing-complete, digital computer capable of being reprogrammed to solve a full range of computing problems. The most basic and first computers that were generally quite large and required enormous amounts of power.
Level 1: Calculator - The lowest formally recognized sub-level of Dynamic-Cognizance, the calculator is the most basic form of computational analysis following a short list of limited infinite rules to perform basic tasks. They begin as nothing more than automated abacuses, but overtime gain the ability to perform advanced mathematics.

Extraneous Intelligence

[OOC: This is a pseudo-nation of mine I created on whim. I joined Tirkon's thread with Crimm called Sixteen Months Later that begins the story of his nation's reconstruction after a devastating war. After reading the three page thread, I got some ideas of my own and decided to toss my own people in. From there, I created a nation based in similar circumstances. Nearly destroyed by the Demons, the Templars number only fifty now and they are thousand of light-years from home. They look to rebuild, but first they must survive and decide on what to do next...

Because the entire nation has virtually been destroyed, I gave them a high level of technology and undeveloped psionic abilities. As there are only fifty Templars left, their technology is contained mainly in their ten Esper advanced fighters. Furthermore, the psionic abilities can only be achieved through rapid evolution that existed in their qualified ancestors, the Atlanteans. Eventually, some of them will begin to develop these abilities, but it is unlikely that they could influence any space conflict with them (until full ascension.

The Templars future is unknown to me, but they may explore the destruction of Hope's Whisper in an effort to find out what the secret weapon was and they may return to the Temple home-world to confirm the destruction. However, nothing is set in stone and even I do not know the answers to these questions. Unlike other nations of mine, I am looking to intertwine these people into different events and nations for more interaction (part of the reason I established them as I did). And yes, some of this is incorporated from Atlantis and some of the writing is from Wiki.]
