COUP!

There has been a military coup in the Pazhujeb Islands. All members of the Senate and the National Committee, the two most important bodies of the Pazhujebi Congress (also known as the Pazhujebi Imperial Commission) have been imprisoned. No deaths have been reported, yet.

Until further notice, citizens who receive scrolls such as this one, i.e. ones that are marked "Official Decree of the Pazhujebi Imperial Commission," should be aware that such declarations are not being made by elected government officials, but by a coalition of military generals.

Should the Pazhujeb Islands need any foreign intervention in lieu of this crisis, we will certainly keep the international community informed. However, for the well-being and safety of ordinary Pazhujebi citizens, we request that no physical acts be taken, but foreign diplomacy with the leaders of this coup is strongly encouraged.

Thank you. Good luck to all of you.

Nak Kaarl looked at his newspaper with interest. Of course, this was an international paper - not the dogmatic sort that The Party fed to it's citizens and then changed the next day.
He saw a crisis on the Pazhujeb islands. He wasn't sure what to make of it, but considered what The Party would make of it. Would they help the diplomats? Help the military revolutionaries? The latter was probably more likely. The only thing that worried him was if The Party decided to seize the opportunity and start building an empire...?
He shook this thought from his mind. The Party wasn't that thick - it would certainly make them no friends in the international community if they did. He knew that the international community was watching the situation with bated breath in the hope it would all resolve itself without external intervention - but also to see if they could exploit the situation to their advantage to improve their standing in the United Nations.

A great, hobnail boot touched down on a sandy beech. This black hobnail boot was attached to a large man, clad in black, looked up onto the night sky. This was the perfect time. Thanks to the military coup, there was a curfew at 8pm and a blackout at 10pm. He moved along the land noiselessly on his mission. The Party would be pleased - he had been told in his brief that evacuating Pazhujeb political prisoners to a nearby neighbour would ensure that any further external intervention was unnecessary - but one thing was VITAL. The Party said very explicitly: DO NOT BE DETECTED. If he was, then even if he got home alive, he'd be killed anyway. He just had to get the Pazhujeb President and Pazhujeb UN representative and get them to the Kreshlin (Imperial Big Brother) embassy. Form there they would be extracted.

He moved silently into the central prison chambers of the capital. He had taken out a few guards on the way in, but in the event of a breakout, that was to be expected. He was undetected. He moved into the shadows, and heard his earphone crackle. Imperial Intelligence had finally cracked the keycode. He typed it in to disable the alarm system. '2-8-9=3..' he never got to type in the fourth code. Every alarm in the vicinity was activated. Great. He'd have to blast his way out...
