MNN News Announces launch of Fergosian Union Space weapons!


Approximately three days ago, classified satellites were launched into orbit by Fegosian Union members with the ability to target as well as launch attacks unto any location in the world. Press releases state that these weapons will be used solely for defense of the alliance and as a deterrent against attack. Generalissimo Ivan Canarias was quoted saying: "The world has mastered the ability to spread death and destruction on a whim, and yet cannot feed its population. If we wish to continue spreading peace and stability throughout the world we must meet chaos on all fronts. While this endeavor is expensive, it will help deter wars so that the Fegosian Union can concentrate on bringing peace and humanitarian aide to the people of the world."

While the exact details of the orbital weapons were not released for press use our own research into this has presented numerous possibilities. Some research has shown the potential use of the famed "god rods" in space and there use around the world. For those of you who don't know what a "God Rod" is, it is a large telephone pole size rod of tungsten that is used as a kinetic bomb launched from the atmosphere. However the problem with such a device is that the damage it causes is no where near worth the cost. They have been recorded and only do as much damage as a large bunker buster bomb.

Other such ideas were suicide satellites that were primed with fragmentation explosives to take out other satellites and hinder opponents spying and/or weapons satellites. These satellites are relativity cheap (only a few million for each) and far better at deterring satellite based weapons then any other weapon we are aware of, except for maybe an EMP based weapon. Many people believe that it was a variant of this weapon that was launched from the Miamius launch site three days ago. While the Fegosian rocket is believed to hold a far more powerful weapon.

We were notified from a certain high ranking Fegosian officer who chose to be unnamed that these weapons are to be feared and are far more dangerous then the beloved "god rod." "They are much more powerful then that."

However whether or not these weapons are as dangerous as the military claims, only time will tell.

While we have serious doubts about the peaceful nature of this action, for now we will take your word for it. Remember the extreme responsibility that comes with such power. We will continue to monitor your upstart union closely.

Official Diplomatic Communiqué

The Unitary Technocracy of Etoile Arcture declares its dissapointment upon learning of the orbital weapon tests that have been conducted by the Fegosian Union. While we would never seek to interfere with the sovereign rights of the member nations of the Fegosian Union or to restrict their activities, we do appeal to them to reconsider performing any further tests or proceeding to a deployment of this weapon system in the interests of maintaining international peace and security.

The Technocracy has long held itself to a voluntary moratorium on the weaponisation of outer space, believing strongly that the proliferation of weapon systems in Earth orbit contributes to greater suspicion among nations who may feel sufficiently threatened by such deployments to develop their own capabilities. As well as the inherent danger posed by these weapons if they should malfunction or fall under the control of a hostile power. The Technocracy will monitor closely these and any further launches if they should occur.

Statement by the Freehold Commission
Mondoth accepts that it is a nations sole prerogative to maintain it's interests through military force, including space based weaponry, in deed, Mondoth itself maintains some modest orbital presence. In this vein however, Mondoth must protect it's own interests, as such, we request that any military satellite be routed such that it spends minimal time over Mondothian soil.

Regardless of whether our political request is honored, to prevent an international incident, we would like to inform you that any military satellite whose orbital path takes it over Mondothian soil, or certain Mondothian interests, will be blinded by use of ground based lasers and jamming systems for the duration of that part of the satellites orbit. This should not be construed as an act of imminent war and it is to be noted that these blinding techniques are not powerful enough in normal use to damage the satellites in question.
