OOC : My first post, please forgive the noobness

For the past twenty-three years the Federation of Zalverine had been slowly building its space fleet from scratch. Late in the game for claiming planets, they were forced to journey to the outer fringes of space. For six months the souls of the 17th Task Force journyed into the darkness of space, searching for a suitable system that would become a new place to call home for furture colonists.
Enter the Terag System. A star system with thirteen planets, three with suitable atmospehers to sustain human life. Aside from that, the star was estimated at being several billion years old, but it had no signs for going nova for another three million years. On two of the non-habitable planets there were large reserves of gold, silver, titanium, and other metals that could make the Terag System a potential economic powerhouse and a vital strategic location for further expansion for whom ever controlled it. Admiral Jack Taylor could not pass up this oppurtunity to claim it in the name of Zalverine, especially since it was an island in a sea of lifeless worlds....
"Admiral, what are your orders sir?"
For the past three days Admiral Taylor had kept the 17th working around the clock on gathering every possible data on the Terag system. Everything was promising, all the Admiral had to do was simply give the order and more than a hundred ships would descend upon Terag to claim every piece of rock. There were no signs of previous explorers having been here, no sign of anyone having a claim to Terag, but the Admiral was still uncertain. He took a look at everyone on his bridge. Their tired expressions were waiting in earnest for him to make his decision. Their tired expressions each told a story of the past six months of being homesick, of endless patrols and scouting missions, seeking that perfect place so they could establish a base to then wait for the colonists to arrive. However, this system was just outside the reaches of several dominat powers in the region, and if they sent a msg home some unwanted eavesdroppers could pick it up and attempt to claim Terag as their own. But the Terag had enough minerals, gold, and silver to strengthen the Zalverine economy and make her a power to be reckoned with, Taylor could not pass this by.
"Ensign, send an encrypted msg to Station I-54."
"Yes Sir," the young Ensign replied and a shout of victory ranged through the command bridge of the Ritisia.
"Don't send any details about the system, just tell them we found Shangri-La."
The Ensign soluted and went off to the Comm station to relay the Admiral's orders. Taylor had to act quickly, after sending the young Ensign to carry out his first orders, he turned to his communications officers and bellowed his next commands above the cheers of everyone present on the bridge.
"Have the Lysithea Battlegroup take up positions bewteen the two gas giants, the Ragnar Battlegroup is to get in a geosynchronous orbit above Terag II, have the Ritisia Battlegroup establish a perimeter around the three habitable planets, and tell General Vince to have his Marines prepare for landing on all three of them."
In military fashion they saluted Taylor and went off to their assigned duties. Taylor breathed a sigh of relief as he watched his Task Force begin to split into their assigned groups and head to their designated positions, no unknown or hostile ships within range to pose a threat, but his gut told him that they would pay dearly for this system....
