Grozagrad, The capital City of the Republic of Merdessa which is one of the member republic's making up a Unified Bulkania became a land of seething resentment towards the Central Government in Kanigrade.

Just Days before, former President Yuri Kuznetskova was removed from his position as President of the Republic of Merdessa for his nationalist and seperatist policies. He was replaced with a Merdessian which was more loyal to the central government in Kanigrade and the transition seemed to be successful and orderly. With Mr Kuznetskova on trial for undermining National Unity it appeared Bulkania would remain a united and stable state.

It began at 10am with an ultra nationalist group made up of 20 supporters which occupied Groza Square outside the Merdessa Parliament which supported Mr Kuznetskova and the succession of Merdessa from Bulkania. They started chanting Nationalist chants and Anti Brenitzian chants.

He had lit the bottom of the flag with a match and the flames quickly spread. the crowd then waved thier fists scremaing and shouting. the flag was then thrown in a clearing down infront of the car where the mob spat on the flag.

The military was no more then 200 meters down the street. Tear gas had been launched into the mob further down and columns of the smoke raised up off the street.

3:55 pm
Hundreds of thousands of citizens of Grozagrad were out on the streets. Military units were shooting into the most violent of the crowds. Some mobs even fired back with thier own weapons. Smoke was riseing from everywhere
By this stage demonstrators had stormed the Parliament building. with 20 Merdessa and Bulkanian communist party hostages. the rest managed to be evacuated to the BSSU HQ in Grozagrad which had become the main base of operations for the military and had been transformed into a military fortress.

Already estimates put the deaths up to 560. That was the exagerated figures.
conservative estimates put the death toll at 150.

Mikail Borchev the President of Merdessa that had been appointed by the Central government in Kanigrade to assume Mr Kosnetskova's old possition was surrounded by hurried and rushed staff in the main Hall of the BSSU HQ

"We will not negotiate with the Fanatics! The Comrades understand that by joining the Communist party that sacrafice thier lives for the greater good, we can not surrender Bulkania's stability to save 20 party members" declared Borchev

"Mr Borchev, the phone for you, Its president Stanov" said one of the aides passing Mr Borchev the black telephone

"Mr President?"

"Tell me whats going on down there? are the people content? is the situation under control?" asked President Stanov

"The fanatics have hostages, they have stormed the Parliament building. The Merdessa flag has been raised to the top of the Parliament Building where the Fanatics claim Merdessa to be independent of Bulkania" Rushed Borchev

"This sistuation is getting worse. How close are we to suppressing the rebellion? Whats the situtaion in the countryside and of the other cities in the Republic?"

"The people are calm.... watching events unfold on thier screens no doubt. A sympathy movement was crushed hours earlier in the port city of Poltagrad"

"Concentrate your efforts on maintaining order, do everything you can. It might be best if we censor all information. News of this can be shown AFTER this is over. In the meantime show something more up lifting"
with that the call ended. Mr Borchev handed the phone back to his aide

30 minutes later............................................................................................... ...

All over the country of Bulkania all news was Stopped. Instead old fotage of the 1978 Ballet of Bulkania was shown on all the channels on Bulkanian TV.

6:10 pm

Restless groups of the mob walked around the streets. they were basically deserted. Thousands were moving out of the city to the Military camp on the outskirts. Others had returned home while some barracaded themselves in public buildings. The Military then used this oppourtunity to seize control. The Military tanks and soldiers began rolling in.

The Bulkanian forces were closing in on the Parliament Building and on Groza Square

Dashkovian News: Reporting in Bulkania
President Vladimir Petrovitch's face flickered up on screen:
"To the people of Bulkania, and her daughter Republics, I offer you my condolences at the tragedy wrecking havoc in your fair land. However, while I condemn the use of violence, I cannot be completely supportive of the current regime for the following reasons, and nor can I support the revolutionaries for the same:
-While Dashkov is supportive of any Communist State, Dashkov condemns the use of violence to oppress any ethnic group, and supports revolutionary movements that work for the better of the people
-Dashkov is a largely Russian nation, and therefore supports the Russian ethnic group of Merdessa
-Dashkov is a nation of peace, and has already set her military an objective in another revolution. Therefore, Dashkov cannot support either sides in the ways that would be necessary for either side to win.

However, the Democratic Socialist Island States of Dashkov (DSISD) offers the following advice.
To the Communist Government of Bulkania. Withdraw your own people from Merdessa, cast away all of your imperialist tendencies that oppress Merdessa and have your military cease fire.
To the Revolutionary Nationalist Party of Merdessa. Release your hostages and cease your violent protests. Bulkania should hopefully heed my advice, and you will be free. Perhaps you can be a independent country, and thne we can establish an alliance.

I hope you meet an agreement, I look forward to working with both of you."
The transmission ends, with the News Channel switching to lighter topics.

To the Dashkovian government from the Communist Party of Bulkania

The Bulkanian island once had a 100% Brenitzian nationality. when the Russians moved into the black sea they overtook Bulkania and settled it with Ukrainians and Russian's. We now have to deal with preserving a UNIFIED BULKANIAN ISLAND. The Bulkanian Communist Party is made up of the 3 Communist parties of each Republic. We want to preserve national Unity. We know what happened to Yugoslavia in the 90's we dont want that to happen here. We hope our relations wont be strained to much. we have to work together. and We will try to think of a more peaceful way to settle this. Thank you for your concerns

President Stanov was on a train to head down to Grozagrad to address the situtaion. The night saw the military lokcdown the city, secure the city and arrest the instigators and more serious traitors that worked to spread dissorder.

Unfortunatly the 20 party members held hostage had gun shots in thier heads. The nationalists that had barracaded themselves in the Merdessa Parliament building faught to the death. The parliament building was heavily bombarded with tanks then stromed. The Merdessa Republic flag was immediatly lowered and raplaced with the Bulkanian Flag.

Order was not quite restored. small sypathy demonstrations were sprining up all over Merdessa, though they were easy to supress they hastled Bulkanian forces for the duration of the crisis.

..............................TRAIN ENTERS GROZAGRAD.....................................

The Communist Party of Merdessa occupied the parliament for the first time since the crisis. The Brenitzian and Blekovan Delegation and President Stanov of Bulkania sat at the front to adress the Party of Merdessa. Military units stood against the wall of the Parliament building for the purpose of "Security"

"The situation is known all around the world" started Stanov

"Bulkania faces one of the largest threats to unity. We are brothers, we are a unified nation had until lately coexisted together peacefully. Comrades in the Merdessa Communist Party, you serve the Communist party of the Socialist Federated Republics of Bulkania, our republics are all equal, we must work to preserve the national unity. Ukranian and Brenitzian nationalities living within this republic have reported harrasment, the former President of this republic fueled descrimination. WE MUST PRESERVE UNITY, WE MUST PRESERVE BULKANIA"

The Parliament erupted in applause, Outside a Demonstration had been organised made up of Ukranian and Brenitzian's living in Merdessa. They held up flags of BULKANIA in a show of thier support for unity and thier condemnation of any seccessionist movement.
.................................................................................................... ........

The Delegation of the 2 communist parties of Brenitzia and Blekova along with some officials in the Merdessa communist party walked out of the Parliament building to address the crowd

The Crowd was 50,000 strong atleast. They held up portraits of the late president Groza and portraits of current Bulkanian president Stanov

President Stanov approached the microphones, camera's set up around Groza square picked up everything, even the damage of the Parliament building was seen on camera

"Loyal Bulkanian's" The Crowd erupted into applause and cheers

"Bulkania must not fall into anarchy and civil war. Our 3 republics have coexistsed peacefully for over 60 years, we have functioned normally and we have gotten on with our lives, However certain anti-communist party members have infiltrated the system, corrupted it and now we are here today with the situation that has been given to us"

"What about the Russian nationality! stop them from beating us! Protect us!"
Screamed some voices in the crowd close to the front

"We must rehabilitate the nation, re-structure the system, we must fix everything to get the nation functioning properly again...."

The crowd then began screaming louder

"We demand justice! do something about the Merdessa Russians!"

"Calm down comrades! be good people!" Pleaded President Stanov

The crowd became a seething mob of anger and frustration

"We will address the problems of Bulkania and fix them within the coming days I promise comrades!"

The massive crowd then began chanting
"JUSTICE, JUSTICE, WE DEMAND JUSTICE!..... DESTROY KUZNETSKOVA, DESTROY THE RUSSIANS, STOP THE RAPE, THE DESCRIMINATION"

President Stanov was in complete shock, his face was completely stunned, Mikail Borchev ran up to President Stanov

"say something, promise them something, ask for order" hurriedly yelled Borchev

"Hello!.........Hello!........." Stanov then raised both hands and geastured to calm down, his face still had the contorted shocked expression of confusion

"Hello! Calm down!" Yelled Borchev into the mic leaning slightly over Stanov

Stanov had no options left but to appease the crowd, The leadership was extremely frightened of the crowd. Some of the Party leadership even retreated quickly back into the parliament building

"Comrades! Comrades!......"Yelled Stanov

"You never have to be hit again! you never have to be oppressed by any other nationality! We will get to the bottom of this! I will fix everything, put your trust in the Party leadership we will save you" said Stanov in desperation to control the crowd

The crowd took this message to be a declaration by the central government and president that they would protect them and exact revenge.

The speech was Televised and only meant to be shown on the main TV channel but instead was aired on all three channels and put on loop shown every hour. This was not the intention of the central government as they knew it would cause more resentment. However the Director of the State Television was a staunch Brenitzian nationalist and was so proud he overturned all programs himself and gave the order to spread its coverage

.................................................................................................... .........

President Stanov left Grozagrad immediatly where thousands of Brenitzian nationalists and civilians waved off his train and some waved the Brenitzian flag chanting "Brenitzia's savour will rescue us! STANOV IS BULKANIA!"
The train left. The exact opposite had happened of what President Stanov wanted to achieve. He wanted to achieve peaceful co-existance but in a rush delivered a speech which inspired Brenitzian nationalism who wanted to exact revenge on the Merdessa Russians.

Stanov went on all the phones to the Republic Presidents and other party leadership.

"An Emergency session of the Entire Bulkanian Communist party must be held immediatly in Kanigrade. The nation is caught up in some frenzied, euphoric atmosphere I dont know what the people want we must save the country and make important changes if Bulkania is to survive"

The Blekova Ukrainians and the Merdessa Russians were not very enthusiastic, Brenitzian nationals in the other republics were already marching down the streets with Stanov portraits and Bulkanian flags shouting

"Bulkania will be restructured! We have protection, support and we will have revenge! Revenge the Stealing of Brenitzian land of what use to be a 100% Brenitzian island! this is our land! RUSSIANS AND UKRAINIANS OUT! DISSOLVE MERDESSA, DISSOLVE BLEKOVA!"

.................................................................................................... ....

It was midnight, President Stanov sat in his office, he had just arrived off the train and he had no sleep, he had gotten reports of the spread of nationalism within each of the republics.

Stanov looked across to the far wall where there was a picture of the Late President Groza with two Bulkanian flags drapped on two poles either side of the door.
He spun the chair around the looked out the office window which took up the entire wall. It looked across Marx and Engles Square towards the Bulkanian National Assembly and parliament building.

In the center of the square was a Statue of three small children each dressed in the national costume of the Ukraine, Russia and Brenitzia, they were standing on a hill top holding eachothers hands, they had large and optimistic smiles on thier faces. It was the Monument to National Unity built in 1948. Stanov looked down at the statue and thought to himself

"What will be left of our fatherland after this"
