(OOC: This is an Intro - I should have put that in the title, oh well. In anycase everyone's one welcome.)
A lonely planet, it conditions harsh and unyielding, not many resources to speak of. Not worth a second look for the many space-faring nations that already are out there. However on it a strange breed of people were born, lived and died passing on their genes and collective knowledge. However just like the planets environment, so were it's people, harsh and unforgiving, those that survived lived on to have children and to spread their genetic makeup as far around as they could. Those that didn't fell at their hands, or at the planets own whims.
Those that didn't adapt died, those that died were considered nothing more than a waste of space, this was the start of a people where only the strongest, most deceiptive and most cunning survived. There was no god amung them, how could they believe in any "good" being when they had to literally fight their own mother for the scraps of food that were on the table?
The planet and it's people lay there unmolested by external forces until one day a space ship visited their system. Who knows where it was from nor why it was there, but it left something behind. A ball of trash in orbit around the planet, soon the orbit decayed and all sorts of things landed on the planets surface. Weapons, equipment, engines... all sorts of new technologies lay there for the taking for those who could use them for their own gains.
One man seemed to stand out from all the others, this man talking on the name of the great lion, managing to obtain the reverse engineered technology for him self, stealing it from others, obtaining through trade or simply through frontal attacks formed the first true planetary government, a government that was not interested in it's own citizens but a government purely interested in it's own advancement, those underneath it be damned.
This turn of events saw a new era of technological development weapons that no one could have dreamed about before and finally a way to get off this hellhole of a planet. The First inter-stellar ship named "The Lion's Mane" set off looking for new resources for the rabid consumption of the new thirst for resources of every kind as well as to spread the rule of Darwin's law. Survival of the fittest.
The ship burst out of Hyperspace into a new system, who knows what bounty and what dangers would await them.

Border System 1105-M, 1432 lightyears from Talean
Scoutship Arreas
"Sir, there's nothing out here. The machinery's faulty, that's all."
"Fair enough. Repair it. We don't want one of our border probes downed."
As the Arreas dropped a man out, dressed in a rather smart, almost skintight spacesuit, with a few repair tools, something else happened.
"FTL readings, captain!"
"You're sure?!"
"Absolute. Get Kthalk back in here. He might be shot at."
The Lion's Mane emerged just a few lightminutes away from the Arreas. Wary as they were of first contact, being virtually unarmed, as part of the Republic, it was still their duty to speak.
Greetings. This is the scoutship Arreas, of the Republic. May we enquire as to why you have entered our space?

"Heh, did you hear that bit of uncertainty? There not sure that we'll give them a reply."
"We're not picking up any energy signatures strong and concentrated enough to be weapons. They could be shielded."
"What pitiful little ants hide they're power when defending. No... IF anything they'd try to over emphasize their power. The Mane will swallow them up, you have your orders, but wait..."
The captain paused for a moment, a wicked grin growing on his face "deploy the scramblers first, we need to test them and we don't want them to tell anyone else do we? Do it"
"Yes, sir!"
Pods opened on the front of the ship, two almost spherical drones dropped from inside the ship and then powered up for a second moving towards the scoutship Arreas. Moments later there started broadcasting various communications jamming signals across a wide range of technologies. Whom ever they had gotten this technology from had experience with alot of different technological bases.
"Captain, the jamming signal is operational."
"Good, now obliterate them!"
Weapons where taken online ready to release volley after volley after volley at their target.

"This is the scoutship Arreas. We are under attack in system 1105-M, by an unknown enemy. Our FTL drives are not yet operational. Requesting immediate backup."
A simple message, straight, and to the point. Yet, with the jamming in place, the scoutship's tiny little generators did not have enough power to send the message clearly. The ship collapsed under the strain of the attack, and, at home in Talean, a man looked over the scrambled message, trying to make sense of it.
This is... Arreas. We... attack.. system... unknown. Operational.. immediate backup.
"That ship was in 1100 to 1145, right? M?"
"Correct, sir. It was surveying those forty-five systems routinely. We have nothing but probes out there, and they serve as early warning for any Dratherian gatherings near our worlds."
"So. What do you suggest?"
"Logically, we dispatch probes to those forty-five systems. The ones that report back with status clear, we leave. The one probe that either finds an enemy or doesn't report back, we reinforce."
"Do it."
As the Arreas's oxygen supplies made a brief, but eventful fire in space, a tiny probe was hurtling towards the system. In perhaps an hour, it would be there, searching for the missing scoutship.

The captain just watched with a smile as the ship exploded on the view screen. It was an unqualified success until...
"Sir, we detected a broadcast."
His faced suddenly went sour, "did it get through?"
"Unknown"
"We need everything from that ship and we need it now. Get the engine and anything else large first. We can worry about scooping up bodies and smaller debris we have time."
"Sir it'll take at least 3 hours to scoop all this up."
"You have an hour and half... I want to be out of here by the hour."
And so the remnants of the Arreas were scooped up and away from larger sections of the hull to the FTL and other engines, some of the smaller debris including the dead bodies of those that manned the ship where being done. This was the hardest and most time consuming the explosion spread all that far and wide.
They were concentrating on everything so hard that they failed to notice the probe enter the system.
"Recall, if there're not here in 10 minutes we're going without them.

Deep within the reachs of the void slept a dark fleet of evil that knew no bounds, and obeyed only the darkest of masters. The Fleet was commanded by one who soul had fallen into hatred and corruption long ago, and as a punishment for his sin, he was assigned to Command the forces of the Dark Cell beings called the Dark- Biomech. Like a virus they feed on anything and everything, They spread and consume and reproduce and repeat. This never ending cycle is what drove them to this small barren planet...
The Dark Commander stood aboard his ship called " The Ethreal" watching as his fleet surfed the farthest reaches of the void looking for it new food source and new breeding grounds. With 300 breeder ships augmenting the fleet they could easily take over a planet and replenish their forces. But nothing had been found for months and the fleets hunger pains where growing. Suddenly action of the small combat which resulted in the Arreas' destruction aught the 'eye' of the half -human-machine being that watched over the void for signs of life.
" Commander I have detected weapon fire not far from this location. Shall I set course?" called out the overseer.
" Set course, advise all ship to prepare for combat." Ordered the Dark Commander as he sat down in his evil chair which overlooked the Bridge of his ship.
The Fleet entered Hyperspace and proceed to where the battle took place.
OOC: Mind if I pop in? It's not going to be much, unless you want it to be so.
IC: The Ascendants, ever since the Realm had dropped by in their ships and given their strange warning, had not been totally comfortable with the Realm. Their watch on them had been intensified, although it had been scaled back a bit due to the needs of the recolonization of the five home systems. They still sent out patrols, and one of these was on the border of the Realm, still some distance away but close enough to watch. When the disturbance caused by The Lion's Mane tore through the STC, they noticed and immediately began watching.
The Ascendant destroyer, the Hope's Call, stood by in Phase Space, completely hidden from the dimension the Realm scoutship and the other ship currently occupied. Akara floated amongst the void in which they occupied the ship and gazed at the data coming in. A voice soon disturbed her, being one of her subordinates. "Akara, are you sure we should be so close to the border of the Realm? They are not a nation we should anger?"
She sighed and sent a calming thought towards him. Poor Callis, he was always so nervous about ventures like this. "Do not worry, Callis. The Realm will not be threatened by a single destroyer. They could swat us out of the space we exist in, if they felt otherwise. For now, we watch. Besides, they are busy with the Dratherian War, and you forget, we are allies through the ESUS. We do not need to worry. Now, continue your vigil."
She moved her eyes back to the space that the two other ships occupied, watching carefully. Her eyes widened when she detected the jamming devices being activated and the subsequent energy discharges. Her eyes narrowed, and she sent a call along the mental pathways of her kind. A reply came quickly, noting of the attack. Her unspoken query was answered. "A squadron of ships are being gathered to head for your location as we speak. Hold off on action; we must wait to see how the Realm reacts, and how this new foe acts after this. If they try to attack any of the Realm planets.....play the good ally and defend them. We do not know who these people are, but they will be shown that not all small ships are weak."
Akara nodded and sent orders to the others. The ship gently prepped its engines, still hidden by its dimensional phase cloak, and began to head for the system, moving closer in case they needed to intervene. What few squadrons of Archlord fighters they had were prepped and ready for deployment. Akara had the weapons and shields activation sequence in her mind and ready to be initiated at any time. Now came the waiting game...what would this strange ship do now.....?

OOC: Aw, man. This was shaping up to be all vis-a-vis one-on-one and quiet and fun. Now I have to crush some Hobeebians!
AR, I'd like to ask your opinion on this new impending uberfleet before we go any further. It looks to be escalating into one of those occasions where the Republic is forced to pull out a lot of firepower to deal with someone who shouldn't really be there, and it will, irritatingly, take the focus of the RP away from you, and onto someone else.
If you'd like to ask Hob to leave, that's absolutely slam-dunkin' fine with me.
If not, however, I'll have to pull out some heavy firepower of my own to get the job done.
Hobbeebia
21-01-2008, 04:01
OOC: Incorrect. No uber fleet is coming. I have a plan that will keep my interference at a minimum, and it might actually come out as beneficial for you.
OOC: Bringing in a "fleet" will basically constitute what HT is saying. So saying a "fleet" doesn't bode well.

OOC: Dude, what am I meant to expect when you post something like "300 breeder ships", eh?
Atheistic Right
21-01-2008, 04:41
OOC: I'm not adverse to others joining, but as HT has alluded too big fleets = Lions Mane dwindling to sideshow. I am not willing to accept anyone who brings in a large fleet, in fact any fleet at all.
Hobbeebia, your welcome to come as long as it's a single ship. IMO a massive fleet in response to a scout ship going xplody is far too much overkill.
With further conversation happening as I type this up...
Fleet: Defined as more than one ship that is in this system which may interefere with the progress of this RP.
Anyway... Do we all have MSN? I know Telros and HT have. Let's continue this discussion over it

OOC: Your call. I'm not really sure what your ship would do - whether it'd salvage and run, or wait, so... yeah.
IC: "No, look. Let's assume it was a pirate. So.. what then?"
"We send out a battlegroup to destroy it!"
Khanas sighed. "Jex, Jex, Jexio, old chap. We're at war. Out of our thirty thousand capital ships or so, most of those are, in some way, dedicated to warfare with Dratheria. A lot of power is also being caught up in those new battleplate and superfortress designs. Now, we're lowly strategists. If we requistion a battlegroup to save a scoutship, we'll be the laughingstock of the military. We also won't get it. No, at best, we'll be sending in a frigate. Maybe two, if whoever's in charge today is feeling generous."
Jex scowled. "And when the thing that destroyed that scoutship destroys the frigate as well?"
Khanas laughed. "Then we send in a battlegroup. Besides. For all we know, it was a mutiny, or something to that accord. Their message wasn't very clear."
"Because they were being jammed!"
"Or because someone put a bullet through their transmitter during a mutiny?"
"Well.. maybe."
"Right. It doesn't necessarily have to be an evil from the very bowels of space. So, let's just wait until the probe gets back."
At that very moment, a tiny, barely metre-long probe entered the vicinity of where the Arreas had been..

Once The Lion's Mane had finished collecting everything that it could the Hyperspace Engines flared returning via a tour of non-occupied space finding in their journey a new planet, a planet actually suitable for supporting a variety of life, teaming with animals and plants and also teeming with bountiful natural resources. In fact there was an alien race, a race about the same level as the Rightists were until some rubbish literally changed the course of history.
OOC: Anyone going to follow and chase? If not I'll do a time jump with some story explaining what's going on.
OOC: I'll be following definitely. But we can just assume I followed and do a time jump.

As the captain saw the planet he saw an immediate opportunity. The ship landed near the central settlement and immediately ceased control of the functioning society that they had built. They had encountered resistance but the technology that they had was able to overwhlem the standing defenses.
Rightist forces were able to "capture" the aliens, forcing them into not outright slavery but with their species being seen as a "lesser evolved" species there was no favours paid to them. However they are a resource that they could not just waste.
The infrasctructure on the planet was a boon for the Rightists, mines, minerals steels. Resources galore, or that's how it seemed for the resource poor home planet they came from. Eventually the ship left, with armed forces left behind to keep the populace in check.
Soon there were regular "ferry" services between the 2 planets, these aliens known as Tolrans exported back t otheir homeplanet. As a sort of "labourer class" with some freedom but at the mercy of those above them.
With the Tolran's powering the back-bone of industry and the sheer un-adulterated desire for power, not from the government but from the population itself saw Atheistic Right start to spread out. Each wanting to crve out their own power-base.
This period saw a number of attempts to over throw the great lion, most prominently from the captain of the Lion's Mane himself using the status of such a successful mission and the captaining of the only starship available but, there was a complicated series of intrugues and sabotage which eventually saw the "hostile takeover" fail. An attempt uprising by the Tolran failed spectacularly.
For now it seemed that the Rightists were content with their own little inner squables to be any real inter galactic threat but now they certainly had the resources to be a big pain in anyone's behind should there be something that could unite them.
