Election Time in Latislavia: Race for the Premiership

Latislavia

Voting is beginning today and will continue until monday for the office of Premier in Latislavia. According to an agreement made back in December of last year, the current Premier, Rein Wilhelms , was an interim so as to have stability for the country to grow, but in the agreement, known as the New Order Compromise, Wilhelms could only serve for a year, but he could run again for Premier. Here are the candidates:

1. Rein Wilhelms(National Democratic Socialist Union): The current Premier, he is the one who started the revolution in Latislavia to dethrone the former Emperor while Wilhelms was a senator. Under his reign, Wilhelms set up the new colonies of Kosta Reiga and Koraslava. He funded a program to install security cameras around the nation, which has led to the lowest crime numbers ever recorded. He funded more money towards education and increased the power of the federal branch. He says his main focus is improving the economy even more and strengthening diplomatic ties with other nations.

2. Nikko Ladise (Labour Party): Ladise, the now Governor-General of Kosta Reiga, was a late entry into the race, but has expressed his thoughts on strengthning the economy and minimizing the government's role in the lives of the people. He is a big time capitalist, and says his policies are more involved in increasing buisness's role in the government. Ladise, along with Wilhelms, was a co-creator of the idea of a regional currency in the Equatorial Atlantic, which is used now, called the Lire.

3. Vladimir Brockovich(Communist Party): A left-wing extremist, believes in complete redistribution of wealth and more financial equality for all the citizens. He stands against big buisness and wishes to establish more colonies around the world. He says, however, that he will give the people even more civil rights than the present government allows.

and finally:

4. Marco Kilhelms(Libertarian Union): Once a loyalist of the former Empire, Kilhelms has stated that he would like to see a much more reduced federal government, yet he expresses that he is much more of a capitalist economically speaking.
OOC: If you have any questions on where any of the candidates stand on certain issues, post it in the forum.

Ok Razakistan, here they are:
On the Economy:
Wilhelms: A socialist, yet his policies and his co creation of the regional currency, the Lire, and his law on placing tariffs on imports has boosted the economy greatly.
Ladise: Capitalist, thinks that private buisnesses should be given much more leeway than they have been.
Brockovich: Socialist/Communist, belives the laws placed on private buisness now are fine and is calling for a complete redistribution of wealth.
Kilhelms: Says that if he were elected, he would leave that to the discretion of the different provincial governments.
On nuclear power:
Wilhelms: signed a regional pact banning nukes and nuclear power.
Ladise: against nuclear bombs but supports nuclear power plants for energy.
Brockovich: Thinks nukes are essential to national safety and believes also in nuclear power plants.
Kilhelms: Against nukes but again would leave decisions regarding nuclear power plants to the provincial government.

Where do the candidstates stand on governments role in society?
Latislavia

Lets ask them:
1. Wilhelms: expanded the federal branch's power greatly to regulate buisnesses and enforce some socialist policies. Believes in direct democracy and thinks that every citizen has a right to vote.
2. Ladise: Wishes to minimize government and increase police and military funding. Wants some of the regulations on buisnesses revoked.
3. Brockovich: Believes in representative democracy...to a point. He wishes to authoritate the government even more in the citizen's lives so as to protect them. Believes that the Premier's powers should be further extended, some to the point where he almost has totaltarian rule and create from the National Assembly, an oligarchy of sorts.
Kilhelms: Just the opposite, believes that government should only tend to issues such as international relations, tax, and trade. Wishes to "wean people off the government teat."
