History

The first origins of the current state of Tokyoni can be traced back to late 2003, in a relatively unknown, and historically-obscured occurance. While walking home from Daikoku Private Academy, a third year student by the name of Yagami Raito happened by sheer chance to run across a strange notebook with the words "Death Note" upon the cover. Contained within were a list of instructions indicating that if one were to write the name of someone, and think of their face, so as not to affect individuals with the same name, that person would die.

Our Lord first wrote the name of a ruthless murderer who held captive the innocent children of our fair land, surprising himself by the effectivity of the notebook. In time he came to spread his ways of benevolance to the world, killing all those who would bring harm to the innocent of society. Yet for his noble acts, he received at first no reward; on the contrary, he was ruthlessly hunted down by one of the most villainous characters in all the world's history - L Lawiet - known simply as 'L' to most of the world.

Forced to act under the alias of Kira, our Lord eventually outwitted and destroyed L, and his two successors of 'Near' and 'Mellow'; though in the process the lives of many comrades were lost. Monuments stand in Tokyo today to honor the lives of the fallen Teru Mikami, Kiyomi Takada, and Misa Amane; all struck down in the noble line of duty in the glorious fight by the enemies of justice.

After his enemies at large were defeated, our Lord turned his attentions back internally, wishing to make our homeland strong and powerful once more. Running for the position of Prime Minister in 2010, quite openly as Kira, under assurances from the Shinigami that no further notebooks would be dropped for a thousand years, and all existing ones were under control of him or his comrades.

Winning in a landslide election, our Lord radically reformed our land's policies, removing every instance of corruption from the government and business world, and setting up many social policies giving equal opportunities to all disadvantaged citizens. Under the government of the Tokyoni regime, our land has grown stronger, our citizens more dilligent, status granted to all based on merit.

There were of course some internally who sought to corrupt our lands, who spoke treasonously against our Lord and conspired to overthrow him, but all were dealt with swiftly.

It would, however, be the epitome of selfishness to desire such a perfect society only for ourselves. Hearing of the great human suffering in a nation immediately to our west, known formerly as "North Korea", our Lord's heart was moved to compassion. In a single night, the former dictator Kim Jong-il was made to cede all power to Kira's government before committing suicide.

While the UN contested this, even they fear to directly challenge our land. The year is now 2012, and already the land of North Korea is showing much improvement from its former state, the infastructure rebuilding, the people now living prosperously, the land's military and economy strong once more. As a great respector of local culture, Kira himself appointed several local Koreans to positions of power within the northern part of the Korean peninsula, now under the control of Tokyoni, and has encouraged further education in the history, language, and culture of Korea. Koreans and Japanese alike are granted equal status under Tokyoni law, so all UN propaganda about Tokyoni being an 'imperialist state' should be taken with a heavy grain of salt.

Government and Economical System:

Our nation is a democratic state, though one in which Kira's Party, the founding party controls the majority of seats de facto in all facets of government. There are however, three legally parties: Kira's Party, The Communist Party, and the Social Democratic Party (Most moderate of the three).

The government is Federal in form, the Federal Government being housed within Tokyo; the two subsidiary republics are Japan and North Korea. Japan's government at present is identical to that of the Federal Government, while North Korea has some degree of local autonomy, electing their own governor to represent the Korean interests. The capital of the People's Republic of North Korea (subsidiary state) is Pyongyang,

Our Federal Government is managed by the Supreme Council with veto/approval power resting solely in the hands of our Premier Raito. Premier Raito is simultaneously Premier, Chairman of the Council, and Commander in Chief of the People's Republican Army. Members of the Supreme Council are selected by vote, and approved by the Premier. In turn they name members of inferior Councils, with varying degrees of allowances for popular consent. In belief of direct local democracy, our government does allow varying villages and divisions of larger cities to elect their own local leadership by popular vote, but exercise the power to override such rulings in instances which the good of the state may be threatened.

Our political culture is heavily motivated by a modernized doctrine of Juche, believing that the pursuit of common goals for the state is the highest good, and that the many citizens of the Glorious People's Republic must trust with full-hearted and total devotion the establishment of their state. Loyalty to the state and unity with their fellow citizens is encouraged from a young age in our illustrious educational facilities rated independently some of the finest in the world.

Freedom of speech is allowed, but not in such a chaotic fashion as many western democracies. Riots and protests after all cause damage to the state, and hinder state progress. Citizens are encouraged instead therefore to present their suggestions to the government through the proper channels, such as their local chapter of Kira's Party.

Under the principle of Juche and in desire for a stable state, for the good of our own people, we fear that much foreign media must be blocked. Such media has been found to have blatant subversive and violent themes that could poison the minds of impressionable young people. Caring deeply for all its citizens, the People's Republic has therefore shielded itself from such disgusting foreign propaganda.

Religion is too viewed with some similar suspicion. Our constitution of course guarantees all citizens freedom of religion; however, in the interest of shielding our citizens from potentially dangerous or subversive groups, the government regulates all religious institutions to ensure their teachings are in line with that of Juche and loyalty to the state.

Regarding the economy, our nation strives to achieve a perfect Juche Socialism, in which the inequalities of class and inheritance are removed fully from society. Our citizens understand truly that it is the state to which all resources truly belong, they merely borrow them for life; upon their death, all resources are returned to the glorious state. As a meritocratic state, further, the People's Republic is known to reward the efforts of its more loyal, diligent citizens with greater acquisition of resources in life; yet despising the injustice of capitalism, upon death, even their resources must return to the state.

Our current struggle is against the Republic of Korea, our neighbor to the south. In recent years, the ROK has grown increasingly belligerent towards our people, and in the last month has unleashed a string of deadly terrorist attacks against our sovereign nation. As such, our Leader, Premier Raito is preparing our nation to defend itself against such blatant acts of terrorism from this illegitimate government. The People's Republic of Tokyoni requests that all civilized nations of the world refuse to recognize the legitimacy of the current government of the Republic of Korea and support our efforts to pacify and liberate the region.
