Lawrence Gaston and the Republic Party have staged a full scale insurrection against the Empire and now as I speak forces of the Republic Party are forming up in the northwest of the Empire and mass scale desertions from the Imperial legions are taking places as more traitors join the rebellion.

Yet, Imperial forces from the Imperial Navy and Imperial Air force have stilled, nearly entirely, loyal to the Emperor Ingolf III and to the Empire of the Scandinvans as they have pledged to fight the rebels no matter what it takes and to put the rebellion down if it means their very lives.

The Emperor Ingolf III has also issued a call to every citizen of the Empire to resist the rebellion and to all that they can to prevent the insurrection from tearing the very fabric of the Empire apart.

Currently though no large scale fighting has taken place and for now the Republic Party is mustering its forces in the northwest of the Scandinvan Empire and now have begun to plan their rebellion.

Lawrence Gaston looked at the various representatives that came from across the Scandinvan Empire and had the same common ideal of establishing a democratic republic where the will of the common people might finally be heard and that the people of the Scandinvan nation might finally be able to create nation for the people and by the people.

Yet, this had only come once they had come the conclusion that there would be no change through the traditional democratic and that a revolution would have to occur within the Scandinvan Empire in order for any true form of democracy to take root within their nation.

Despite their ‘noble’ ambition they realized that the only price for their betrayal if they lost their gamble would be a trip to the gallows for all the traitor officers and that every signal leader of the rebellion and Republic Party.

Though the price of defeat was at the front of their minds the dream of establishing a true Republic for the Scandinvan people was enough to convince that if their bid at freedom meant their death they would gladly accept it.

The actual military of the Republic Party was a full third of the Imperial Army, a fifth of the Imperial Air Force, and a tenth of the Imperial navy. Despite this army of millions their forces were tiny in compassion to the tens of millions of men that remained loyal to the Empire. As well, aside from the Army far to many remained loyal in the Navy and Air Force branches of the armed services of the Scandinvan Empire remained loyal and any chance of the Republicans gaining air supremacy or rule of the high seas was impossible. Furthermore, the sixty percent of the Army of the Republic Party were mere militia men, lacking the military expertise of professional soldiers and that they also lacked the equipment of the Scandinvan Imperial Army.

The populace that supported the rebellion was even smaller then the military support of the Republic Party as currently only a tenth of the whole Scandinvan populace actually supported the cause of the Republic Party and a super majority of the Scandinvan populace were against the cause of the Republic Party.

These facts, when added up by the leader of the Republic Party, caused the Party to switch to a policy of holding off the Imperial forces while the Party established itself in the northwestern provinces of the Empire and began its attempt to spread their causes throughout the Empire. Yet, this plan was a fickle one as they were fighting men defending their country and that were willing to die to preserve the Glorious Empire of the Scandinvans.

Imperial Decree:

As of now the Scandinvan Empire officially declares a state of rebellion within the borders of the Fatherland and that it advices all foreigners to take refuge within the city of Valdra or to leave the nation entirely for their own safety. To note all foreigners entering the Scandinvan Empire, save diplomatic staff, shall be given a fully paid ticket back to their respective home nations. As well, all diplomatic staff are hereby restrained to travel within the capital province of the Scandinvan Empire while the state of rebellion lasts. Though if any diplomat has an Imperial Scandinvan escort they are free to leave the heart province.

Furthermore, the Scandinvans hereby institute barring all shipping, save in the case of emergencies, from all nations; only nations that this does not apply to are members of the Confederacy of Scandinvan Protectorates, Errikland, Kirav, and Daehanjeiguk.

Any ships found breaking the blockade shall be turned away and if they resist Scandinvan patrol vessels the Empire reserves the right to search the ships to make sure they are not carrying materials that make aide the rebellion.

As well, all aircraft that enter the Empire must have proper I.D. to enter borders of the Scandinvan Empire, though nations from the list previously mentioned may still land at any airport within the Scandinvan capital province.

All these conditions shall last till further notice.

Shipping will be diverted for the time being; however, any outstanding portion of contracts with the Scandinvan Empire that remain will need to be negotiated, otherwise transfers and payments will cease.

ICCD also puts fleets on standby and closely observes the situation; especially in regard to oil exports, and the oil industry.

ICCD is on standby in regard to it's trading partner the Scandinvan Empire; however understands its citizens' xenophobia of foreign interventionism.

"While we have little interaction with the Scandinavian Empire, we could potentially gain a lot of influence in that region if we support the Republican movement. However we could gain immense gratitude from the Monarchy...."

"Would you like my suggestion, sir?" Asked the Intelligence Minister.

"Yes, by all means do tell."

"I believe that we should observe what occurs. Perhaps send a Special Air Service team to be prepared to intervene at the appropriate time. If its in our interest to support either side, we'll see it then."

Blair nodded. "Thank you Mr. Edwards. I'll deploy the SAS after some more observing. Let us watch this unfold a bit first."

Northwest Provinces:

The Scandinvan Foreign Guard has been deployed to the front line and have been ordered to maintain a position in a key position along the mountain passes of the north. As well, they have been ordered to hold their positions against the upcoming assault from the core elements of the Democratic Republic’s forces that are approaching the west and will advance along the relatively level western slope of the mountain ranger. Furthermore, due to the terrain only limited amounts of artillery can be deployed and only a few lighter vehicles can be supplied to fight in the environment. While, the rebels will have strong support from artillery positions set directly opposite of the Foreign Guard’s lines, but at the same time they will have virtually no air or armored support while the Foreign Guard will be able to call in support the Scandinvan Imperial Air Force which has managed to take complete control in the skies over the battlefield.

“Risk it?” he scoffed, “This civil dispute is hardly pressing enough to warrant leaving our pretty set up in this city,” Another sip and moment’s pause brought fourth a more cautious statement, “If it does get . . . messy . . . well, we can get out then, right?”

First Battle of the War:
The advanced teams of the Republic Party began to make their steady advance across a plain, at night, towards Scandinvan Imperial positions till they were successfully spotted by an Imperial Marines patrol. Radioing in they called in a full air strike and fire bombed the entire advance of the Republicans and the remains of which were actively hunted down by Imperial soldiers who began a counteroffensive as soon as the lines were broken, but once they advanced to the solidified positions of the Republicans they were driven back because the Republicans held both the higher grounds and had dug in the hours after their advance had been broken.

Using the mountains as a backdrop the Republicans had dug long lines of trenches and positioned their artillery in man made caves up and down the mountains, in order to protect them from airs strikes, and had also set up large numbers of machines guns in their positions to deter any attack by foot. As well, due to their hilly positions neither Imperial armor or large scale foot assaults could be carried out without loosing a huge amount of life.

Due to these factors a stalemate has emerged and a call has been issued for a legion of Imperial soldiers to volunteer themselves to be the ones to drive back the Republicans from their strong positions. (Aka the Foreign Guard)

What was freedom?

What was the potential of a free nation?

What future would come with a true democracy?

What if the people of the Scandinvan Empire were entirely unwilling to support a democratic government?

All of these were questions that Gaston asked himself as he saw thousands of men marching on parade at the newly christened capital of the Scandinvan Republic, the city of Haloina, yet such a step was only done to increase the morale of the forces fighting for the Republic Party and in the hopes that foreign governments would recognize the government set up by the Republic Party was the sole rightful government of the nation of the Scandinvans.

As well, he had called to him all the various provinces of the northwestern reaches of the Scandinvan Empire declare independence from the central authority of the Imperial government of the Scandinvans and to join the noble cause of the Republic Party and aide in the establishment of a democratic republic for the Scandinvan people. Furthermore, he called on all Scandinvan citizens to throw off the shackles of the Imperial government and to earn their freedom from the autocracy of the Scandinvan Emperors.

The recent message, sent by the Scandinvan Rebels to the world, had just landed on the Emperor’s desk, so to speak; this was not an official meeting, he was not with any of the leaders he normally assembled to discuss foreign matters of pressing importance. He had, in fact, been raised from bed, been having difficulty sleeping—he needed this sleep, having just concluded his Yanitarian mission, effectively closing the Yanitarian saga which had so plagued him, and needing to address the growing problems in Cripistan aside from the Scandinvan issue—when the message, the plea, had reached him.

And now, standing on his balcony, a glass of applejack in his hand, letting the moonlight and cool night air wash over him, he felt more conflicted.

The concerns of these rebels—who identified themselves as “republican,” a label he himself had once proudly worn—were ones that he was far from unsympathetic with. The love of liberty, the concern for rights . . . these were noble causes. And now, in support of a beloved ally, a state who had long been great friends, the Empire was to actively oppress these very republicans.

Their ideals may seem nice, but look at the tangible, his rationality chimed in, They disturb the civility and stability of their nation, they invite foreign intervention against their people, much as the PSDO did, and for what? The Emperor saw an emissary running up to him, late as usual. He bore a red flag.

"What news?"

"Insurrection in the Empire."

"There is an army in the Northwest demanding the institution of a Republican Government in the Empire."

The Emperor gazed at this news wildly. The last that he had heard of any indication that republicanism was sweeping the Empire was years ago, and that was all avoided by careful negotiation. Why now? There was no reason for the conflict!

"Notify Shingang officials to mobilize their guard."

"Shingang? Why?"

"You said there's an insurrection in the Northwest! Shingang is the Northwest!"

The emissary wanted to laugh, but it was the Emperor. He quickly rephrased his statements. "There is an insurrection in Scandinvans, Your Imperial Majesty."

A pause followed as the Emperor wanted to laugh himself, but of course he was Emperor. He nodded and paced himself. At first, the revelation was good news, but he realized the other effects of a civil war in Scandinvans - the return of xenophobia, and perhaps worse. Yeonghwa?

"I want you to issue a statement declaring our firm and resolute support for Emperor Ingolf III. And have the Hwarang figure out what the Republicans want. See if we can support negotiations between the two sides, and if so what we can do support the Emperor Ingolf III. If the Republicans aren't interested in xenophobia, then perhaps we can mitigate the crisis by bringing the two sides together. If they are... then perhaps we can end the crisis altogether."

We are discouraged to see the elements of barbaric revolts inspire disillusioned extremists within such a prominent nation, and we maintain our trust that the Scandinvans nation is more civilized than to succumb to insurrection. Still the news is worth some concern, and we have since ordered the Embassy in Scandinvans to issue statements and recalls of visitors and travelers to the Empire in lieu of these events.

His Imperial Majesty furthermore wishes to offer to the Insurrectionists and opportunity to come clean and end their rebellion if they can agree to talks with the Scandinvans Empire at the Summer Palace in Gwangju. If their purpose is noble and holds some merit, they will accept His Imperial Majesty's invitation. If their purpose is vile and seeks to subvert the Scandinvans Empire into anarchy and chaos, they will be isolated and show their true colors to the world as powerless and weak rebels who deserve the full brunt of the Scandinvans's civil corrections programs. The truly Errikan military forces, not counting the various forces commissioned by protectorates or colonial locals, totaled 95.7 million souls; this number is deceptive, however, as over twenty million were in the Provincial Guard, forces commissioned by the provinces, forces which, aside from times of extreme need, were unlikely to be deployed outside the Empire. The total national military forces stood at just over 75.6 million people, with nearly 40.2 million in the army alone—the support and logistical staff are almost entirely separate, and thus not counted in these numbers—all servants of the Empire. Two million such souls, two full armies, were now being mobilized for the Scandinvan theater, where they would primarily fill the background roles normally filled by the Scandinvan forces that would be doing the real fighting.

As for the average soldiers we plan to only no longer allow them to vote and that they must surrender their arms and vow to never attempt to forcefully overthrow the Empire again, though they shall not be chagred with anything else.

Regarding the sending of a small covert team from your nation we must limit their access to our own files for security purpouses, but we will allow them to actively carroy out operations against the rebels on the condition that they continue to share any and all infromation with Scandinvan Imperial forces.

The truly Errikan military forces, not counting the various forces commissioned by protectorates or colonial locals, totaled 95.7 million souls; this number is deceptive, however, as over twenty million were in the Provincial Guard, forces commissioned by the provinces, forces which, aside from times of extreme need, were unlikely to be deployed outside the Empire. The total national military forces stood at just over 75.6 million people, with nearly 40.2 million in the army alone—the support and logistical staff are almost entirely separate, and thus not counted in these numbers—all servants of the Empire. They split between them over thirty nine trillion standard dollars, over nineteen trillion Errikan marks, sixty one percent of the national budget plus the whole of tribute taken, distributed essentially the same as personnel. These forces were in charge of the maintenance of the Empire, her peoples, territory, and honor.

Two million such souls, two full armies, were now being mobilized for the Scandinvan theater, where they would primarily fill the background roles normally filled by the Scandinvan forces that would be doing the real fighting.

As for the seond part, the average citizen has a very high opinion of the Scandinvan Empire, I'd imagine it'd be like the Germany/Austria relationship, or U.K./U.S. (similar people with similar culture and language). However, in the case that this becomes a brutal civil war, the average citizen will probably start questioning why we have to be there at all, reguardless of their opinion, hence the fewer troops. In the event that things are going well, I could probably get a few thousand troops in to make things run smoothly without running the risk of open rebellion.
