In news this hour, Defence Secretary Donald Ducksfelt minutes ago released a Ministry report announcing that a Googlewooper Navy Destroyer, the ‘GS Rudd’, has fired at and sunk a factory ship belonging to the ‘research’ whaling fleet of the small nation of Tiki Toko. The Defence Ministry report claims that the whaling fleet chased a pod of roughly 100 Googlewoop Whales (Species: Japanus Fullofshitus) 5 km into Googlewooper territorial waters and ignored various requests from the Navy Patrol including the ‘Rudd’ that they return to international waters. After two warning shots fired over the bow of the fleet’s factory ship were ignored, the ‘Rudd’ fired two Mk 50 torpedoes from close range into the flagship’s starboard side, sinking her within 20 minutes. The remaining fleet immediately turned towards the border. Secretary Ducksfelt announced that 17 of the 122 crew aboard were reported killed or missing with the ship. The remaining 105 Tiki Toko internationals were taken aboard the Rudd and will be held in custody in a Googleopolis Government facility for an indefinite period of time.

Speaking a short time ago, President Jon Hay emphasised that the ships and crew had trespassed on Googlewooper territory for a considerable time and had ignored all warning issued by the Navy vessels who he said had carried out textbook border security procedures. President Hay stated that because of these circumstances both the nation of Tiki Toko and the captured whalers themselves had absolutely no recourse to appeal the decision to incarcerate the foreign nationals saying, “They have broken international border treaties and as such, the government and courts of this nation will do with them whatever they please under Googlewooper law.” He warned that any action by Tiki Toko or any other foreign power to attempt to disrupt the legal processes implemented on the captives would not be tolerated.

These developments seem to have prematurely ended the Tiki Toko whaling season for this year. However, President Hay said he would not rule out ordering the navy to sink the entire fleet, whether it crossed into Googlewooper territory or not, should it return to hunt Googlewooper Whales next year. He said he was personally disgusted by the annual slaughter and insulted by the assurance of the Tiki Toko Government that the cull was for research, describing such a claim as a farce.

The Sultanate of Tiki Toko expresses its utter outrage at this blatant military action against its research vessels. These actions have greatly disrupted Tiki Toko’s internationally important research into the effects of whale meat on dentures. If it wasn’t so puny and helpless, Tiki Toko would immediately move to both extract its nationals from Googlewoop’s custody and complete the culling of the entire Japanus Fullofshitus population for research.

The Unitary Technocracy of Etoile Arcture sends its condolesnces and deep regrets to the families of those killed in this regrettable incident. The Technocracy accepts the reasons outlined by the government of Googlewoop for the protection of its sovereign territory, and fully supports those measures being taken to protect the Googlewooper Whale from being hunted. The issue of the prosecution of the Tiki Tokon sailors for crimes commited in Googlewoop is an entirely internal matter.

We therefore call upon the government of Tiki Toko to suspend its whaling operations, both within and near Googlewoop waters to prevent a repeat of any further incidents of this kind. We also call for a full cessation of all whaling activities by Tiki Toko. The Technocracy believes the practice of hunting whales runs wholly against conservation efforts to preserve the diversity and richness of ocean life, and as such takes a strongly negative view of these practices.

The Technocracy will therefore deploy a detachment of “Vector” uninhabited reconnaisance aerial vehicles, pending approval of the Googlewoop government for basing rights on their territory, to provide persistant surviellance of the Tiki Toko whaling fleet and to monitor against any further territorial violations by them. The Technocracy also offers to despatch two of our Zumwalt class destroyers to the area, expected to arrive within four days, to assist the Googlewoop navy in protection of her territory if so required.

The Realm is shocked and outraged with the blatant lack of compassion and humanity displayed by the Googlewooper Navy in this regrettable incident. The hunting of whales for food has been a means of survival for mankind for many centuries, and to deny food on the table for the Tiki Toko people and deny finding new and revolutionary scientific discoveries is in itself a crime against mankind as far as the Realm is concerned. We therefore offer our moral support to the people of Tiki Toko in this difficult time, and officially condemn the nation of Googlewopper for their actions against a unarmed civilian research vessel.

Greetings.

We are very displeased with the recent attack on the whaling vessel belonging to Tiki Toko in Googlewoop waters. Granted, the ship was in Googlewoop territorial waters. However, the attack on an unarmed vessel is unacceptable to say the least. The attack can be blamed on poor bureaucracy and overzealous military commanders.

Should Googlewoop fire upon another unarmed vessel in its waters, especially a whaling vessel, the Asgarnian Naval Force will be authorized to destroy Googlewooper naval and civil vessels in international waters and Asgarnian territorial, protectoratorial, or the waters of Asgarnian insular areas. A naval and aerial blockade of Googlewoop will be enstated.

We suggest, should there be another whaling vessel encountered in Googlewooper waters, the Googlewooper naval force utilize a nonviolent approach to apprehend the whalers. This will surely cause less disruption in international affairs.

Let it be noted that Asgarnieu has a rather large whaling industry and is very protective of international whaling and the maritime hunting industry.

I myself support whaling and we have just found it to be an exllence source of food to give to the poorer families of Zackaroth. But a nation has its rights in there own borders. If this occured out in open and free sea then this would be an outrage but these Tiko Toko vessels where warned many times to leave and thus had no excuse to when there vessel was sank. We would have done the same. I hope people realize that Googlewoop had every right to destory this vessel. When your in another nation's waters you follow there laws and there rules.

The ASoGM does condemn Tiki Toko however, for its lack of respect of another nation's territorial waters. 2. We find that the Tiki Toko whaling ships entered sovereign Googlewooper waters with the intent to break the anti-whaling laws of Googlewooper.

3. We find that Googlewooper is justified in enforcing it's own laws in it's sovereign waters.

Therefore, the Free Republic suggests that some form of compensation be paid to the families of the dead whalers, but that the Googlewooper government should not let the threats of other nations to deter them from trying the trespassing lawbreakers under Googlewooper law.

Vault 10 Coordination Council has found the Googlewoop actions completely right and the use of force the only possible action in such situation. We do not endorse the way in which force was used, however, finding it excessive.

Not only Tiki Toko was involved in the highly questionable activity of whaling on a massive scale (122-men vessel), but had decided themselves within the rights to violate territorial waters in this pursuit.

We are sorry for the deaths of the 17 sailors, as we are sorry for the deaths of the whales they caused, a species incomparably more endangered than humans.

Assuming whaling being a severe crime in Googlewoop, and following the rule that entering another nation's territory means submitting to its laws, the fishing vessel captain has consciously put his crew in mortal danger. By the traditional Law of Sea, it's the captain who is responsible for the consequences, by entering foreign territory with the intent to commit a crime there, and not turning back when ordered and warned.

On behalf of the government of Googlewoop I thank the leaders of the nations which have justly shown support of our efforts to ensure our nation’s security and sovereignty. The council of said parties is highly valued in times as complicated as these.

It is of great importance that all of the nations threatening to intervene on behalf of the captured foreign nationals, Tiki Toko or the whaling industry in general learn the importance of friendly Tiki Toko – Googlewooper relations as well as some basic diplomatic etiquette which you currently seem to lack.

1. Tiki Toko is currently under the military, economic and diplomatic protection of Googlewoop and will remain so until the Tiki Toko Sultan feels his young nation is prepared to defend itself alone. The Sultan will confirm this as necessary.

2. As such, the relationship between our two governments is extremely amicable. Neither the Sultan nor his council has attempted to dispute the right of Googlewoop to defend her borders, only the manner in which she did. The sultan has also privately apologised to the President for his countrymen's part in this incident.

3. As such, the incident is not being considered by either nation as an attack on the nation of Tiki Toko. The whaling fleet which was intercepted was disobeying the laws of both Tiki Toko and Googlewoop and the prisoners are being treated by both nations as civil, not political, prisoners.

Further, the nations of Asgarnieu, Cotland, Allanea and Lamoni should heed the following warning very carefully:

Googlewoop has a long and distinguished history of squashing attempts by overzealous, capitalist dictators to intercede in otherwise minor international incidents, with the aim of gaining control of natural resources. Googlewoop reserves the right to defend her borders and the laws which are enacted within them by the congressional parliament, so will her allies and other sympathetic nations reserve the right to swiftly repel any invader with a capitalist agenda. I find it personally disturbing that the leaders of such ‘mature’ nations continue to act with such disdain for peace and good order.

However, it is my pleasure to announce that today, President Hay issued pardons to all foreign nationals involved in the incident being held in Googlewooper custody. The captain of the vessel was issued with a fine of GD$1 500 under Googelwooper national law after being charged with failing to follow the directions of a law inforcement vessel. This charge and fine were later dropped also under executive order.
