Imperial Big Brother

<Please Note that people have died to give us this information. Our thoughts are with their families at this difficult time - Lad Broox, Head of the Kreshlin Rebel Alliance (KRA)>

In the peaceful, crystalline and cascading waters of the Kagraven sea, where tourists come from world-wide (and it is speculated 'galactic-wide', though no one has proved this conclusively) to bathe in the sanguine waters and snorkel above the Hoilin Coral Reef, which is home to some of the rarest species of coral fish in existence - including the Kreshlin Lungfish and the Languina Coralbiter. The water is so clear you can see hundreds of metres down, and see the wreck of one of the most famous ships in Kreshlin's history.

GEOGRAPHY
Kreshlin is a small volcanic island several thousand miles away from where most of the action is taking place. When we consider that it took until 1948 to find Kreshlin in the first place, then you can see how far away this is (it was in fact discovered earlier than this, but this will be covered in the 'HISTORY' section). It has a huge, active volcano right in the centre of the island (approximately half the size of Everest, so it can be seen for miles around).
To the north east you would see a large, barren swamp which no one in their right mind would be interested in. Indeed, Imperial Big Brother tends to dump it's rubbish there (as well as make cash by selling soft pete from the area). All that endures in those stagnant waters tends to be a few very dead trees and the occasional scavenger.
The south west however is much more accommodating. To the west there is a lush, tropical rain forest abundant in timber and filled with a richness of wildlife found in few places around the globe.
But the south is where you will find the people. The great capital of Imperial Big Brother (the four great towers for each of the ministries, and one great and 'The Great Watch Tower', replendant in it's glory, clad in gold and said to contain the information for every single Kreshlinian citizen for every second of their lives. The majority of their society live in great slums and are referred to as 'proles' (they are frequently hit by artillery shells by the government to prove that they really are at war), while the government itself ensures it's own stability. The entire area tends to look like a post-war Britain (only on a tropical volcanic island ), and rationing has been in place fr far too long!

HISTORY
In 1765, an explorer named Maars Laans crashed his ship into a large volcanic island by accident. He'd been trying to adjust his compass and has seriously done some miscalculating. He noted (after a good deal of maths-work) that he'd stumbled across a new island somewhere in the vicinity of the Kagraven Sea. He looked around the island, and though it was very interesting he saw no natural resources (they were, but they were hidden under approximately 30 metres of ash). In a fit of disappointment, he didn't bother to chart the island and simply placed an 'X' on a map where it was, and slipped it in a bottle to forget about.
However, Maars Laans was beset by pirates on his way back home, and his ship currently languishes at the bottom of the Kagraven sea (and is viewable from the surface). However, the bottle survived, but remained unopened until 1920, when a young boy playing with seaweed on a nearby shore stumbled across it. He opened it up and saw a big 'X' and thought what any other sensible person would - "TREASURE!"
So, once he was old enough (and had convinced enough people to finance him) he begged for a boat (and got it), borrowed some crew and stole some digging equipment, and set out for this great 'X'. Unfortunately, as they were going by an extremely old map, they struggled to find precisely where the 'X' was. They set out in 1932 and it took until 1948 (16 years!) to stumble across the island (they crashed the ship into the shore and damaged it beyond all repair). He then stepped out onto the shore, named it 'Kreshlin' and declared it his own country. His crew reluctantly agreed to follow him, and they settled to establish 'The Capital' in 1950.
'The Capital' became a hive of sea trade and made these early settlers very rich. They even brought over their own families and attracted people over there by their thousands. However, there was a growing problem. Firstly, no one was running the country and secondly, several countries wanted to run it for them. Therefore, as a quick way of dealing with the problem of ruling (and making the place as undesirable as possible to invaders), the government of 'Imperial Big Brother' was formed in 1973, with the primary goals of remaining stable, 'liberating' other lands and ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone.
Since then things have been good (or bad, depending on how you look at it). Imperial Big Brother is aiming to have at least one billion citizens on it's island, the wealth of the state is better than many of its neighbours and it's arms trade is one of the most profitable in the world. However, this has come at the expense of political freedoms, civil rights and the mere right for humans to control the few cubic centimetres between their ears. The entire country is held together under one large, controlled insanity through the process of double-think, the contradictory names of the governmental ministries and the fear of Big Brother and it's maxim, "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU". Everyone has a telescreen, and all dissidents are converted before destruction to prevent martyrdom. It's evil, but to some, it seems to work.:headbang:

Based on military funding and population, I'm fairly sure you can surmise that it's military is pretty formidable.
18/04/08: 831 million people, almost $2tn military funding, with almost $3tn on law & order :mp5:
