In response to the Illinois budget fiasco and the troubles plaguing North America's many governments, Mayor Richard M. Daley declared succession from the state of Illinois. The 50 Alderman on Chicahgo's City Council voted overwhelmingly to oppose the move. In response, the 6th term mayor disbanded the City Council in a move which would certainly receive approval from the mayor's late father.

There were protests in Grant Park to Daley's move, but Chicago Police in their traditional baby blue clad riot gear dispersed the protesters much as they had done so forty years before in the same park. The last time Chicago saw this much mayhem from a single unruly mob was when 40,000 fans forced the White Sox to forfeit a 1979 game against the Detroit Tigers during the infamous Disco Demolition Night.

Daley has ordered a curfew for 9 pm by executive order. All CTA bus lines, trains, and Metra lines will cease operation at 8:15 pm. The curfew is only expected to be in effect for three days. Daley has called for calm and has said that he will reinstate the City Council with special elections in one month's time.

The quick move by Daley surprisingly drew cheers from surrounding counties. Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, McHenry, Will, DeKalb, Kendall, and Grundy County each have expressed a desire to join the new Chicahgo city-state. Porter and Lake counties in Indiana have each also expressed a desire to leave Indiana to join the new city-state.
