Massacre in the streets (Open, MT)

Tatom
15-01-2008, 07:44
Carvol, Tatom

The Capital of Tatom, controlled by the communists was unusually quiet. For a city of 50 million people, it was supposed to be full of people, but the streets were deserted. A Protest was going on at the Carvol square, and it would be horrible..........

At 7 Am in the morning, 1.1 million Protesters showed up at Carvol square. The Protesters were tired of the communists ruling Tatom and not giving the people political freedom. The Protesters massed at the square protesting the lack of political freedom, and blockade of the Democratic controlled island of Thaicher which holds out the Tatom communist invaders. The rest of the country flamed up in anger, they wanted Democracy.

The Communist Government had one thing to do, kill the protesters. At 3 PM, 7,000 Tatom tanks showed up suddenly and attacked the unarmed crowd. 200,000 Communist troops also "assisted" the massacre. The attack on the protesters was brutal, unarmed children were being shot and over run by tanks. Protesters that held up signs calling for Democracy were wiped out by the Tatom communists in seconds. The square was full of bodies. The wounded were taken away untreated to the jails. Captured prisoners numbered 240,000. The 240,000 captured protesters were going to be executed tomorrow for their protesting. Half a million protesters were dead or wounded.

A Tatom Democratic undercover was filming the massacre. He managed to slip away to Thaicher, then he put the video of the massacre on the Democratic news........

While we are morbidly disgusted by your mere existance, this barbaric massacre is complete evidence that communists are not only only mentally instable but a threat to the international community and the fatherland. While we unfortunately cannot declare war upon a sick state such as yourself as we do not recognize any communists governments to be legitimate as of our new foreign policy, we will commence hostile actions immediately until every last communist is cleansed from this holy earth. Only through blood can we wash away the putrid taint that is communism, and as the sole descendents of the gods, we are prepared to spill it to destroy you. Best wishes to your children whom will thankfully be raised without communistic corruption twisting thier minds into malevolent zombies.

Message Reads: Your claim of military action is unjust. Sovereign nations have the right to deal with opportunities and misfortunes according to their own national laws & legislation. We do not agree with the manner in which these protesters were dealt with but we do, however, support the right of a sovereign nation to act as it sees fit within it's own borders. The eradication of such governments by external parliamentary & military forces makes the offending country no better morally than the country enforcing laws within it's own borders, regardless of the extremity of those laws. We advise you to reconsider your statement and intentions. We will take no action, regardless of yours, but we do want our opinion to be heard. We don't agree with communism, but we do agree with the communists right to practice such barbaric legislation.

While we are mildly put off by your actions of killing peaceful demonstrators, we know what people power can do to destroy a country. This fact and the fact that we support Stoklomovi in whatever ventures they might take, causes us to offer you 45 Billion USD, as well as possible military protection in times of war. Re: Re: Unjust military actions
Tatom, under a communist government is not considered a Sovereign nation under Nicksyllvanian Foreign Policy. Hence the rights normally given to a independant nation no longer is valid. Tatom being under an illegtimate government that seeks to genocide its population, and spread the corrupting influence of communism can not be ignored by a honourable and prestigious nation such as ourselves, and thus it is our duty as a civilized nation to put an end to these degenerate activities through force if need be. Inaction only allows barbarianism to breed, and expand their degenerate ways into civilized nations unless they are eradicated the moment they appear.

To: Tatom

We the government of Spit Break while we recognize your authority as a nation, we do not endorse the actions taken against your people in the name of peace and security. Any person who wishes to peacefully demonstrate should be allowed to do so without government troops opening fire on them. We find the actions taken and the video that has surfaced about it shocking and beyond human restraint. This is why we do believe that the order to open fire was handed down by the highest authority of your nation to remove the protestors using all necessary force. These actions against your own people should be stopped at once if the people demand change they should have it, and if it takes the armed intervention of another nation to make that happen then so be it. If it has to be Spit break in all our honour and glory then so be it, let it be known from this day forth you have been warned.

Mr. Boris, I am also a communist president. In Kahanistan, we do not murder political opponents for demonstrating against the ruling party. Protests against the government do not bring it down, they tell the government what it is doing wrong and what the people are upset about.

I must protest at this outrage in the strongest terms. You have gone against the will of the people to such a degree that a major protest took place, and compounded this error by shooting the messengers. This is something that is completely unacceptable in a government that purports to hold the will of the people as law.

We consider Capitalists to be almost as disgusting as a communist, but at least they have common sense, and an IQ surpassing their shoe size. Communists being mentally deficient are simply incapable of logical thought, and are on the same grounds of any common animal. Hence we do not recognize Communists for the same reason we do not consider cows to be elligible for rights and freedoms.
We gladly welcome your opposition, as it will allow less political meandering to accomplish our divine goal to expell communism from the sacred earth, and purge every last subhuman communist for the dignity of the human race.
We mock your false gods, as the only god is our holy, and divine Emperor, direct descendent of the Son Goddess, and the creator of heaven. From his very mouth he has decreed your destruction. The Republic of South Africa is shocked an appalled by the actions of the Tatom Government. Quelling peaceful protestors with military force is not an acceptable measure, and as such we have found it necessary to draft an ordinance of military intervention in the event of further atrocities.

Mr. Boris, I am Prime Minister Valentia Borofsky of the Republic of Karshkovia. My self and my husband, Vladimir Radchenko (http://myweb.cableone.net/bschott/president.htm) were disturbed by the video of this demonstration. Karshkovians rebelled against the Soviet Union for just such acts as you are now doing to your people. We are a socialist nation but we believe in allowing the people a right to voice their opinion so we are democratic as well. We respect your right to rule the way in which you wish, but do not approve of some of your methods.

We protest against the actions your government has taken in this matter, however, we will not move against you and we will not provide any support to nations that do. Our nations' borders are closed to military traffic, except for those protecting the right for your government to exist.

I do have a proposal for you. Instead of purging those you now have jailed and creating martyrs, exile them to Karshkovia. We will take them in for you which would please the international community. It would also remove their status as martyrs to those that may form a resistance, thus helping your government retain stability in the years to come.

Signed,

The trucks rolled back to the Mokan Border check, after being cleared by a high ranking General the trucks pulled in to the Mokan side and the representative was pulled out and escorted to a waiting Limo with military markings on the side. The General climbed in with the representative and inside was a man in a dark suit.

"Greeting Sir, my name is not important. However Mokastana has seen the autocracies that the communist nation has brought to Tatom and is willing to help. We know that our history is not good, but after all, there was a civil war brewing and the men in responsible for bringing us into occupying the southwest have been brought to justice, but we want to bring peace to our neighbors to the north and are willing to get you whatever you need, are you intersted?"

A Recognition of a State of Hostility Between Tatom and Vilikiy

Following a flood of refugees fleeing Communist Tatom, those immigrants whom were interested in joining the Minarchist Republic of Vilikiy were quickly naturalized and incorporated into workhouses across the small but densely populated nation-state. Soon after, however, ethnic and ideological tensions caused widespread rioting and fights between Democratic Tatom immigrants (as well as a large number of other anti-communist forces) and the Yellow Army, a large Trotskyist private militia within Vilikiy borders. Police forces were unable to prevent the escalating violence, and a state of emergency has now been declared as Anarchy has made enforcing law nearly impossible in the battledamaged streets.

In response, the National Militia was mustered, and martial law has been declared as Vilikiy Armed Forces move in to quell the violence and kill or detain anyone breaking the law.

Additionally, elements of the National Militia were deployed against the Communist government of Tatom in accordance with a hasty alliance with the enemies of the perceived aggressors.

A statement from the newly elected Exarch Benjamin Gravel condemned the massacre which sparked the emergency in Vilikiy.

"Each individual is sovereign over themselves and their property. The irresponsible and evil aggression upon such a staggering number of peaceful assemblers and the callous disregard for Human life with which the murders were carried out compelled me to petition the National Assembly for a prompt declaration of war on the Communist Government of Tatom. Their irresponsible actions have affected all of their neighbors in one way or another, perhaps us most of all. The one million man standing militia has been authorized by Congress to engage in hostile action with Tatom, with more to be sent as they become available."

The National Militia, Vilikiy's primary land forces, is comprised of a large portion of its population, cycling their duty throughout the year with just over one million persons active at any given time. Organized into Action Divisions, they are comprised overwhelmingly of specialized, motorized infantry from sniper brigades to anti-tank brigades to minigun-armed technicals for anti-aircraft and heavy weapon support against soft targets. Accompanying the infantry are several divisions of light tanks for breakthrough and encirclement activities. Lastly, the National Militia is followed by the Vilikiy Air Force which invests heavily in air superiority interceptors and assault helicopters.

Defensive Measures

Radar Stations and Anti Aircraft Batteries are manned across the small country. Deep water ports are garrisoned and a pre-planned defense complete with deep pocket fortifications are organized in the event of a counter-invasion.

Offensive Actions

Without a fleet capable of standing up to the larger Tatom fleets, it is essentially relegated to auxillary duty alongside more powerful allied fleets. Under Vice Admiral Petestigra, the destroyers, heavy cruisers, and Air Carrier flagship Vladivostok awaits combined fleet action off the West Coast of Tatom, hoping to lift the blockade when its allies are ready to move.

Meanwhile, the bulk of the active National Militia has entered Tatom territory, breaking through the relatively light garrisons surprised by the sudden declaration and speedy invasion. Several radar stations were seized, supporting the massive air superiority operations the airforce has begun. While not strapped for cash, the Minarchist Republic of Vilikiy has requisitioned oil from is allies and offered up an official, congressionally-ratified, document requesting a military alliance against Communist Tatom and granting military access to its allies.

Under the cover of air superiority, the National Militia is now organizing for an assault on a deep water port on Tatom's north-west coast for allied use in landing more forces.

The People's Republic of Tokyoni

The People's Republic of Tokyoni is disgusted in the hostility towards a nation merely attempting to ensure internal stability. It is of our opinion that he who supports a subversive and terrorist movement in one nation will likely support one in another.

That being said, the People's Republic of Tokyoni is not in a position where we can directly support an extended foreign war, with hostility on the northern continental border of our own lands requiring the necessity of heavy fortifications there. Direct warfare with a foreign power at the moment would stretch us too thinly.

We do however, greatly condemn any nation which would support a terrorist or subversive element in society, and encourage those nations which are quick to leap to hostilities to reconsider their stance before making rash and irrational decisions. For the present, we hope the nation of Tatom will not be offended by our inability to directly militarily support them in their most noble effort to defend their government's sovreignty, and would be willing to support them monetarily at least to the best of our ability.

The Alversian people display disbelief at the lack of understanding displayed towards the international community regarding this incident. We would like to remind the people of Tokyoni that innocent and unarmed women and children were fired upon by tanks and fully armed Soldiers of the Tatom Professional Army. Furthermore, at least a hundred thousand are to be executed for merely attending this peaceful rally.

Alversia stands by the rights of the people and if a million citizens who desire nothing more than democracy are to be considered a 'subversive and terrorist movement' then we shudder to think of the internal affairs within your own nation.

As for not becoming directly involved, it is a wise decision. The Coalition plans to remove the current corrupt and repressive form of government and replace it with one the people will feel more comfortable with. I am not sure about the other members of the united forces but that is what Alversian troops will be fighting for.

To: The Government of Alversia.

There are, of course, always at least two possible views on any particular event. And while the People's Republic of Tokyoni expresses its deepest sympathy towards any innocent being charged with crimes they did not commit, it stands to reason that a nation would not attack its own citizens, its own human resources without just cause.

If the acts of Tatom are truly so vile as you claim them to be, it stands to reason that their own people will recognize such, and enact a new government. We ourselves, remember, however, how the international community committed great slander against our nation during the early stages of our annexation of the northern regions of the Korean Peninsula, and are wary of any such rhetoric regarding 'corrupt and repressive' governments, when such terms were most recently unfairly applied against us.

Regardless of the state of affairs, the People's Republic of Tokyoni opposes any military action. You claim to side with the innocent and civilians, yet through the course of a long, drawn out war will no doubt cause many more innocent lives to come to an end. We condemn such hypocrisy, and will continue to stand by the rights of all sovereign nations to exist unless they directly threaten our own sovereignty or the principles upon which Tokyoni stands.

The first troops of the Mechanized Divisions were started to disembark from their ships. Even though they were probably safe within the confines of the harbour and surrounding bay, a few F-35's from the Trezan D. Baxtor flew CAP over the landing ships. A new force had been added to the Alversian contribution overnight. A unit to give it more flexible attacking options. It was Alversia's elite 3rd Paratroop Regiment, formed of battle hardened Veterans and experienced Parachutists, it should give the Leader of the Alversian contingent a few more offensive options than the advanced MBT's that were being unloaded.

In many occurances of history, the people of a nation with a truly oppressive government have risen up and overthrown it, regardless of the government itself seemingly controlling all resources. It is our opinion that a government cannot remain stable without the support of the populace, and thus, it would be in the best interest of all involved to merely let the people and government of Tatom decide their own affairs.

Military action favoring a subversive action may in this case seem noble through carefully-crafted rhetoric, but it could lead one down a dangerous slippery slope. What guarantee is there that you will not in time support a similar revolutionary group against the government of Tokyoni? It is our opinion that the people and cultural groups of each nation must decide their own affairs, and any attempt to infringe upon the sovreignty of other lands is true imperialism.

Colonel Steller clenched a toothpick between his teeth as the cold air rushed unendingly across his face, causing the flaps on his fur ushanka hat to drift to and fro.

"We're moving in to lay siege to Seattle." He said simply. "The enemy is still disorganized, and much of their strength will be diverted to Los Angeles. If we take Seattle, though, we will deny the enemy their heavy industry in that region and be able to support from land the lifting of the blockade on Vancouver Island. With Seattle and the West Coast knocked out, their industrial base will be all the way on the East Coast, and the Democratic Forces will have quite a lot to work with for their own industry. We'll advance in fire brigades to the south, taking up defensive positions in Cascadia. We can bottleneck any counter-offensive into a killing zone and set up some indirect fire bases along the coast here... and here."

The Colonel's gloved hand tapped two points across the narrow body of water separating Vancouver Island from the mainland.

"So we won't be landing in San Francisco after all?" Asked an officer.

"No, no. That part is critical. If we land in San Francisco our junior forces become an anonymous part of the coalition. No, we have to set ourselves apart so that when we take Juneau and Vancouver we won't be obliged to leave. The Exarch was quite clear about that."

"Yes sir. I'll organize my corps for the advance. Shall I take first offensive?"

"That'll be fine. I'll give you a few light tank brigades for the push. Set up positions here and support my advance on Seattle. If everything goes according to plan we should be shelling it by nightfall and ready to take it in the morning before a decent defense can be organized."

leaving 20,000 men behind to guard the base the rest of Sentient Beongs forces were marching northwards towards the Tatom defensive positions the bommers would leave in 1/2 an hour to support thier advance.

Meanwhile: Commander Clairk's fleet was bearing due north towards the colstream forces to link up and break the blockade. He had all planes prepped for launch and all guns loaded.

1 hour later: Come in all units. This is your commander we have site of the enemy. groups A and B will go first, low and fast below the radar, then stuff the payload up their @ss. All others will attack from high up. Fighters, cover our @sses. Lets do some damage.

" have the artillery lay down a barroge eveywhere, and have them stir up alot of dust. I want to send in heavy tanks with the elites, then light tanks with the vetrans, then everyone else." Yessir replied the aid, before he went to see that the orders were carried out. In alittle over 10 mins. the artillery was opening fire, and the men were moving for the supposed weak spot. the bombers had done their job well, only the main line was truly intact at this point, once they broke 3 bunkers that were right next to each othe there was nobody who could fire on them from an unexposed posiition. Their plan was simple, the main army would draw their attention while the special forces snuck around and took the bunkers.

Tatom Defensive line/border

It was quiet, too quiet in fact, thought the general as he watched his lines, it had bunkers, trenches, some underground tunnels, and other things a defense line needs. Suddenly artillery opened up, surprising the General, he ran to the other shocked officers and gave out orders. Tatom communist artillery opened up in response, and communist tanks quickly assembled to deal with the enemy tanks. Mobile SAM units were ready. F-22 Raptors and F-18 Hornets were launched into the air to deal with the enemy bombers.

The low rumble of medium tanks was heard before they were seen, as seventy five divisions of militiamen spilled across the the border. They weren't Vilikiyan, that was for sure. Vilikiy had no heavier tanks. Only small and fast tanks; no match for the heavy behemoths that could be fielded by the communists. It did have plenty of weapons to compensate for this apparent weakness, though. The strength of the Vilkiyan army was in being able to field much larger number of divisions than rivals of comparable power.

Nikolai Remila was a technical squad commander in the 203rd Active Citizen Anti-tank Brigade in the Novgorod Division. Under his command were 3 conscripts and a TOW Missile Launcher system mounted in the back of an all-wheel drive pickup truck, or 'technical.' These were the hard weapons of the National Militia. Cheap and effective tank killers that could fire guided missiles on the move or from ambush. For the cost of one tank, dozens of technicals with varying weapon systems could be built and maintained. Technicals were used for everything from transporting infantry to the fight to pulling heavy artillery into position.

At the moment, Sergeant Remila was driving his technical down a county-road, away from the highways that would in theory carry the column to Seattle faster but were in practice going to be heavily held even with relatively light defense offered so far. The enemy didn't seem to be paying attention to the small nation's forces, concerned more with the pressing matters of the mounting army in the South West. After they took Seattle they expected that to change. The Seattle area was home to more industry than Los Angeles, which it already was deprived of. It was time to get the enemy's attention and for this moment it seemed that they had -- A formation of Medium tanks was rolling across a farm field at full speed and firing their main guns. In a flash and violent explosion the point car went up, and the rear car went up shortly after, pinning the whole column.

"Take aim and fire!" Nikolai shouted, alarmed and afraid as he slammed on the breaks to avoid colliding with the burning wreckage in front of him and hoping he wasn't rear-ended by a shocked driver behind him. The distinct sound of the two-stage TOW Missile assured him some, in any case, but he couldn't watch its flight. Instead, he whipped his head around to look behind him. The column had stopped without rear ending him. He leaned out the window and shouted to the other technical commander. "Let's move, hard to the left, give them something to shoot at!"

Nikolai turned the wheel as hard to the left as he could and slammed on the pedal, ramming the crispy bumper of the raging inferno in front of him as the tanks fired off their next salvo. His technical scraped hard against the wreck but managed to pull out into the other side of the two-lane road and propel itself forward as fast as the vehicle would go. It they were going to shoot at them, he wasn't going to make it easy. More explosions assaulted his ears as both TOW Missiles and Tank rounds alike impacted. A TOW Missile had drifted unguided into a farm house after its gunner had been destroyed by the opening salvo. Another missile had made a direct hit and disabled one of the tanks and probably killing its crew. Other than that he saw no damage to the enemy, while more explosions behind him told him that more of his column had gone up in smoke. This was bad. In the back, two of his soldiers were reloading while in the passenger seat Corporal Kolipkov was already radioing in their situation to the local command.

"Kolipkov, tell command that we've got six medium tanks on our six technicals and that the Lieutenant died in the opening volley. Tell them I am acting commander and I am requesting air support!" Nikolai shouted as he turned the wheel hard and breaked, reversing the truck's direction in an instant and causing a hot yellow round to scream past where their bed had just been and hit nothing but the ground on the other side of the road. Nikolai didn't see any technicals at all behind him. This was bad.

He floored it once more, charging back towards the furious pile of flaming, twisted metal clogging up the road. It would provide a wall of cover for a few seconds, at the least. Rounds continued to fall all around them. These crews had some impressive loading times.

"How we doing back there?" He called out. "Take your time. I'll keep us alive, you just have to steer that plow into one of those four million dollar machines for me."

His voice was calm and reassuring, but he was not convinced of a word of it. He knew he was already dead as he slipped behind the wall of fire that was his column. Then, he had an idea. He slowed down, stopped, and turned around yet again, looking in the back. They were reloaded and ready. He nodded once to them and floored it one last time before the enemy could realize what he had done. As soon as they were clear of the column, the pa-TIK of the missile announced itself. This time he could watch. It rose up in the air for a second and then made a sharp change of course, roaring down into the turret of the lead tank, completely destroying it.

"Sergeant, they won't take authorization from someone who isn't a lieutenant!" Protested Kolipkov, lowering the radio.

"What?!" Nikolai demanded, his panic rising. This was bad. "Give me that."

He took the radio from Kolipkov violently as he steered with one hand and pinned the thing between his shoulder and his head.

"Listen, this is Sergeant Nikolai Remila and I appear to be the acting commander now that everyone else is DEAD! We've got one destroyed tank confirmed and at least one damaged. Get me some assault choppers in here to take them out! They're vulnerable and we need back up or we're dead men!" He shouted, before chucking the radio back at Kolipkov.

He thought about breaking hard and reversing his direction yet again, but he felt that would be pushing his luck. On an impulse, he let the truck fly off of the road and over the ditch on a bend and through the barbed wire fence running the perimeter of the fertile Washington farmland. Here, he was covered from yet more fire, but unfortunately the vehicle had broken itself in the harsh landing. The drive shaft had probably come out, and there was no time to fix it.

"Everybody O.K.? We've got to get away from this truck! Detach the weapon system and let's move!" He commanded, leaping from the truck and climbing into the back to help dismantle the TOW Missile Launcher. He was doing calculations in his head, though. The enemy tanks would be on him within thirty seconds at best, and it took a good thirty seconds to dismantle the missile launcher. Another two minutes to get to cover in the ditch and reassemble it. This was bad...

Sentient Beongs fighters and bombers were among the Colstream bombers. The bombers were going for the airfields as the fighters tried to take out the enemy planes as they landed. The main objective of this mission was to stop reinforcements from being sennt to the pulverised right flank and it seemed to be working, as enemy forces dove for cover or were killed by strafing and bombs.

Meanwhile: The 500 special forces rose out of the water, right behind the 3 main bunkers. There were alot of defensive positions here that could cause infantry some trouble, but not the tanks that were coming in. The plan was simple. 166 men would sneak acrossed to each bunker and blow the door. Leaving 100 men to hold the door, they would proceed to kill or capture everyone there. then put up red smoke to show the bunker was captured. The tanks and elites would then come in to destrot any remaining defenses, and relieve the special forces.

The 6th Air Attack Flotilla had left Tijuanna port and steamed north at full speed to get to the Democratic island. While in the Los Angeles port was still being refit to the be the main Port for the North Pacific Fleet. Their orders were to connect with allied fleets and help break up the communist blockade.

Meanwhile on the ground 20 Mokan Divisions had pushed across the border and began sacking unprepared and surprised defensive positions. However the 400,000 men could only hold on so long before the communist remounted an offense, they hoped the Colstream army would get in here before that happened. Because while 400,000 men was a large number, the fact was they were fighting along the eastern Califonia border, northern Arizona and New Mexico's North and East borders. Far too much space for such a small force.

For air cover the fighter wings of the 4th Air force Su-35s and Su-37s were flying over claiming air superiority while their bomber wings, large squadrons of Tu-95 "Bears" and Su-34s flew over and began taking out bridges and military installations.

Meanwhile: Go GO GO! Sentient forces sprinted across the land in front of the Tatom defenders. They fired, but were suprised and slow, taking down only about 50 men, with 15 dead. The bunkers were soon taken and the main army rolled forward unaposed. The Tatom defenders at that position were smart enough to abandon thier positions after they failed to retake the bunkers. The Communist extreme right flank was crushed, and their entire line was in danger of being rolled up.

The grinding sound of medium tank treads launching themselves up the opposing ditch and onto the road was loud and distinct, now, as Sergeant Nikolai Remila and his squad fled from their disabled technical to the ditch. There was no distant sound of helicopters, or of tank buster planes coming to buy them those extra seconds they desperately needed. It seemed hopeless, and dread spilled into Nikolai's soul from the deepest part of his psyche. As he ran, he slid the disposable missile tube into the weapon port. Theoretically, he could fire it like this, but would not be in a very good position to be able to guide it. It would be dumb fire, but he would take the chance at taking out another enemy tank if it came down to that. Damned if he was going to die without trying.

He saw the first tank's barrel loom into sight as it crossed the old two-lane, when suddenly the sharp, metallic clang of a missile striking the tank rang out. It didn't explode, but it did seem to be disabled. That left three fully operational tanks, by his count. However, where did the missile come from? There was no air support. Suddenly, he saw it. Another technical racing along the highway, speeding away in a zig zag after its hit and run attack.

Quickly, Nikolai's squad dove into the ditch for cover before they were spotted by the enemy and began to assemble the Missile System as fast as they were able. Above them, the sounds of battle continued, letting them know that their comrades were still alive and fighting.

"Alright, boys. We felt pretty bad when we thought we were the only ones alive. Let's show them we're still here!" He said. "We're moving this thing down the ditch about 10 yards to get behind them, then up onto the highway to launch it into the rear of one of those before taking cover again and loading the last tube. Understood?"

"Yes sir!" They said, out of sync. The clear, orderly plan gave them courage to stare three fully functional medium tanks in the face. On three, the four men lifted the missile system and waddled along the ditch, below the elevated highway to flank the heavy machines. Nikolai noticed two drainage systems that they could crawl through to the other side after firing and made a note of it. They carried the system up the steep embankment and onto the highway. In the field below, they could see the disabled tank minus its tracks trying in vain to propel itself forward as the ground beneath it turned to mud. On the road, All three tanks were speeding away, pushing through the burning wreckage instead of risking going around it and getting pinned by the lead tank being taken out. The burning technicals tumbled uncermoniously down into the ditches on either side, and the tanks fired away at their aggressive comrades.

Nikolai took the measurements on the distance and pointed. "Take out the middle one. Our brothers saved our life with their courage. Let's return the favor."

The missile's first motor pushed it out of the tube and away from them in a split second before the main motor activated and really sent it flying with a sharp hiss. It rammed itself square into the vulnerable flank of the tanks, buckling the armor inwards before releasing its charge and obliterating the vehicle.

The crew cheered, but there was no time.

"Cover!" Nikolai shouted. They dove back into the ditch, pulling the missile system with them. At the same time, one of the remaining two tanks threw itself off of the highway and down onto their side and began to turn its turret. "Run run! Follow me, leave the missile system!"

They ran at full speed as the medium tank let free its bullets. Nikolai dove into the cramped drainage tube and began shimmying himself towards the other side. He could hear the agonized groaning of at least one man in his squad taken out, but there was no way to go back for him. Another sharp explosion punctured the air above them and shook the aluminum of the tube. Had the other technical been taken out? As he pushed himself out, a muddy mess, on the other side of the highway, he looked behind him. He was the last of his squad left. The explosion had been the tank on them firing its main gun directly into the opening of the drainage tube. Somehow, he had survived. Those behind him had not been as fortunate.

Swallowing hard, he climbed cautiously to the top of the embankment. Their allied technical was in full retreat, firing off what was probably its last missile at the pursuing tank. Nikolai pulled out his sidearm and began running along the ditch in the same direction the technical had gone. He wasn't running for home, though. He was running towards the next drainage tube which would undoubtedly be in regular intervals along the length of the highway. The tank would want to check and make sure they were all killed. That meant someone would have to get out of the tank that had stayed behind to deal with them while the rest of the Tank crew stayed in and covered.

Again, he pushed himself into the unpleasant aluminum cylinder and wiggled through. Carefully and slowly, he poked his head out and looked back towards the first one. The tank crew was being careful, too. No one was out yet. The camera mounted on its turret pointed itself in each direction making absolutely sure it was clear. Nikolai decided to withdraw back into his hiding spot for a few second and let his victim get completely out of the tank before taking his shot. He counted slowly to himself to thirty, and peeked out again. Someone was out, and moving not towards the drainage tube but instead towards their TOW Missile System. A bit of spoils of war for them. Not nearly enough to cover the loss of two tanks and the damage to two more, but spoils nonetheless. Nikolai squeezed out further, and trained his revolver on the man. As the victim bent down to pick up the weapon system, Nikolai squeezed the trigger, and pushed himself back in as the man fell writhing to the ground. It was getting dark. Right now, Nikolai thought, the National Militia was beginning its Siege on Seattle. He hoped their situation was better than his.

The forces had pushed into the outskirts of Seattle without much problem in the beginning of the evening hours, brushing away the mustering defenders. However, when they reached the Union Lake and the locks connecting it to the sea, a hasty defensive line had been formed on the opposing side of the body of water by the local garrison.

Colonel Steller had positioned his HQ opposing the main bridges across, and had heavy artillery positioned on top of a parking ramp, in a parking lot, and on top of a structurally secure commercial headquarters that could handle the shock of the firing battery. This river - or lake... whatever - was not a problem for him. However, Vilikiy's allies had ignored the petition for oil. That WAS a problem. The National Militia had opened the Strategic Reserve, of course, and would be able to continue at full strength for an estimated month; but after that, much of the airforce would be grounded and the technicals would have to be mothballed as the military would be limited to only the oil it could drill or synthetically produce.

"Sir. The enemy has gotten their hands on some artillery too. They've begun shelling the bridges and marinas on our side of the river." Reported a red-faced lieutenant rushing up to him with a salute. "However, my platoon has located about ten very large barges that have been undamaged so far. I believe if we make haste we could get a few thousand infantry - maybe even a whole division - across the lake to support an attack on the bridges."

"Your name, soldier?" Steller asked, reversing the direction of his trademark toothpick a few times as he thought.

"Lieutenant First Class Sofronov, sir."

"Ah, yes. Surprisingly enough I know you. You captured that Doppler tower, right?"

"Uh, no sir. I'm afraid my platoon has seen no combat as of yet. We are eager to cut our teeth."

"I see, must've been some other Sofronov. Well, you're in my division at least?"

"Yes sir. Came to you as soon as I heard about the vessels."

"So you didn't actually see the ships for yourself?"

"No sir, but I trust the intelligence as an entire squad reported it to me directly, and I knew I should get the information up the chain of command as quickly as possible before they were destroyed and the opportunity slipped away."

"Very well. We will make an attempt. I will requisition some air support while we cross. I'll lead the attack myself. You take your platoon to the marina and secure the barges and get them running. I'll have the engineering brigade send a few men to assist if you can't get them started. We'll send across five thousand with the first wave to set up a defensive bridge head and then begin a steady convoy bringing across the other half. But this is only if I can get authorization from the Lieutenant General." Steller ordered. For a moment, there was a pause. "Well, what are you doing still standing there? Get your platoon into action!"

"Yes sir!" said the red-faced lieutenant, running off as quickly as he had come.

The democratic nation which is Skyland Mt. deplores all armed actions against peaceful protestors. As a new nation, we are ill-prepared to become involved in such a complex and volatile international incident. However, we condemn in the strongest possible terms all attacks against civilians by any of the waring factions. however, our first concern is for the still living innocents endangered by this conflict. By a vote of 336 to 7, with 3 abstentions, our congress has decided to dispatch 200 tons of medical supplies, 400 tons of food supplies, and 1000 portable shelters to assist any civilians adversly affected by the conflict. We request permission from all concerned parties to transport these supplies through the combat zone unmolested. We all request permission to deploy an escort force consisting of 12 Dragon 2 helicopter gunships and half a regiment of commandos to ensure the safety of our aid workers. We intend this only as a precautionary measure: we will deploy no troops on any nation's soil without it's governments consent, and our escort forces have orders not to engage unless they or the convoys come under attack. We hope that this arrangement is acceptable, and that hostilities cease swiftly.

Nikolai Remila pushed himself backwards out of the drainage tube, covered in slime and muck. He was completely out of options at this point. He heard the sharp puncture of gunfire in the air like bubblewrap being twsited as the disabled tank in the field below opened fire on him. Instantly, he broke into a full sprint to the west; towards Seattle; towards where they had been going before the ambush. The two fully functional tanks were speeding after his retreating comrades cannons firing away. By now, they were disappearing from the open farm land into the sheltered shade of trees. They had escaped. He had to escape too. He had to get to those trees.

Even if he didn't, though, he thought, this had been a triumph. A single column of technicals taking out two enemy tanks was cost-effective if nothing else. The firing tank was a long way off, and not hitting anywhere near him. Spouts of dirt exploded into the air in a wild, desperate spray. The time for thinking and tactics was at an end. Now, he realized, it was down to nothing more than chance; and the odds were stacked against him for his own survival. If only they had gotten air support!

The second damaged tank - the one from which he had killed a crew member - was now throwing itself up onto the highway above him. It would come down, and it would shoot a burst of gunfire into his back. There could be no more weaving back and fourth through the drainage tubes. He could only run and pray.

Nikolai was pumped full of adrenaline. He could hear everything, and was running faster than he had ever run before without even becoming winded. He could hear the clank of each metal tread as it cycled down to make contact with the pavement, and the distant roaring engine of the last surviving technical - a good mile away by now, probably - and... the gentle thudding of helicopter rotors!

Overhead, Vilikiy MiG Interceptors left a column of turbojet exhaust before arcing dramatically down to unleash their violent fire upon the enemy. Streams of hot yellow ammunition washed down in the distance on the two tanks pursuing the technical before releasing their five hundred pound bombs and swooping back up to the sky, while three helicopters peeked over the ridge of trees and loosed their guided missiles, destroying both wayward tanks in glorious blossoms of annihilation.

Mudcovered and suddenly exhausted, Nikolai fell face foward into the muck filled ditch, laying motionless as the roar of destruction took its devastating toll on what remained of the enemy. It was very dark now, and Nikolai was very, very tired...

"Forward!" cried Lieutenant Sofronov. His platoon, along with the entire company, rushed from building to building in large fire teams. Snipers filed into the commercial buildings choking the outskirts of Seattle to provide cover and counter-sniper fire. Engineers brought up the rear with heavy explosives and more importantly the knowledge of how to get the barges running and shipping men across the body of water before the enemy artillery zeroed in and sunk them. Sofronov knew the stakes. He knew them from the start. Though numerically inferior, the defenders of Seattle could conceivably hold the other side of the locks long enough for reinforcements to arrive. That could not be tolerated.

Three divisions were leading the assault on Seattle, supported by another three divisions to the east, while the rest of the invasion force filed into the empty lands of Idaho and Montana, taking up positions in the Cascadian and Rocky mountains - all in order to hold Seattle and support possible thrusts further into Washington and Oregon at later dates. The capture of Seattle was not inevitable yet. The vast majority of the army was needed to form the Cascadian Line against the inevitable counter attack. However, so far the Communist Tatom Warmachine had been lethargic and slow to wake, and this encouraged the Vilikiyan Forces.

Sofronov charged across the deserted road, firing his assault rifle into the pocket of defenders which had been unable to get across the bridges before Vilkiy forces asserted control over this side of the river. These unfortunate souls had been doubly so, as they had chosen to hide in the very place most likely to be occupied next, and they were trapped like lobsters in a fish tank; ripe for the culling.

"SMOKES!" Sofronov cried, taking a canister from his hip and throwing it over the wooden fence and into the vacant lot of the marina where the enemy was coming from. The platoon lobbed their smokes in every direction, and a thick vapor began to obscure the battlefield as squad after squad split off from the whole and encircled the perimeter of the marina. Sofronov's squad, however, was going right through the front gate with a few other squads. As they stepped into the marina lot, light machine gun fire opened up on them, instantly dropping two of his subordinates who fell to the ground kicking and clutching bleeding necks and torsos.

"Cover!" Sofronov shouted this time, diving forward behind some industrial PVC Pipes on a forklift slab and looking for the source of the gunfire. Underneath an elevated trailer flush with the wooden fence was the roaring gun, shooting bursts of muzzle fire at the inrushing company. He didn't need to look at his writhing comrades on the ground for inspiration to kill the man. With a grimace he gave the man a burst of his own.

Overhead, the air support cut up and rattled the defenders on the other side of the water. The company cleared the pocket and brought the barges online, and prepared to facilitate the transportation across for five thousand men. The idea was that the majority should be brought over first to clear and secure the landing area before the enemy was aware of their plan and could target the barges. Sofronov hoped, for his sake, that it was a wise one.

South across Union Lake, the ten barges cut through the water's surface under a flurry of air support. Five helicopters wove in and out from behind buildings, striking at logistical and command structure targets while MiG interceptors provided an umbrella of support for the helicopters from other fighters while strafing enemy infantry with fire.

By contrast, the ten large tugs moving across the darkened lake were practically invisible. Halfway across, however, artillery finally began to fall around the boats in a fierce salvo of fire. Fountains of water exploded into the cool night air. The large, dark shapes began to drift to and fro on their approach; their cargoes were too precious to afford a loss. Fortunately, they were closing fast on the opposing shore.

Lieutenant Sofronov took the TOW Missile System to his eye and fired. He wasn't looking for a target -- it was too dark for that -- he was using the missile as a scout. Better to expend a $1,800 encred missile than expend dozens of lives to a lack of knowledge. He steered the missile high into the air and then back down over the beach, nose diving it towards a cluster of civilian vehicles. He couldn't see any infantry at the landing spot - that was good. The feed went dead as the missile crashed into the vehicles, immolating them and creating bright illumination at the landing area. One after another, other recon missiles were plowed into targets of opportunity along the landing points, as the huge tugs pulled up alongside vacant docks and piers.

In a wave, thousands of Vilikiyan soldiers poured unopposed onto the shores, garrisoning buildings and setting up defensive positions. Engineers moved into their positions and set up heavy explosives and claymores. Barbed wire was run between choke points, and sand bags were stacked to improve the defensibility of the beachhead.

Admist blind splashes of enemy artillery, the ships began to move back towards the Vilikiyan shore, forming a long convoy that would cart smaller numbers of soldiers back load at a time instead of large waves of clustered ships.

OOC:God modding. Frankly that enemy force at the marina would have alerted the rest of the barges and even if they didn't at least 2 would have been hit as barges are far to slow for evasive action and the missile launches would have alerted any enemy forces in the area. Also there would probly be more forces in the Seattle area, they were about to attack the democrats.

((I disagree. They were captured civilian barges, not occupied enemy barges. So there would have been no "alerting." Second, they are faced with two fronts and unpreparedness. And lastly, and most importantly, is that I wait for a day between posts to give Tatom a chance to respond, and when no response is received I RP a defensive, disorganized enemy.

This was done under the cover of darkness, over a very short distance, with only enemy artillery standing in their way. TOW Missiles would alert the enemy of an impending landing, but not give away their position. They're not freaking cruise missiles, and they were launched shortly before landing. Everything you have a problem with is a non-issue or your own confusion.

It is far from anything that could be called Godmodding. This is a prefectly realistic scenario, and I'm RPing a lot more resistance to myself - as well as a lot more attention to detail - than anyone else on these forums would. OOC:No you said there was a pocket of resistance at the marina where the barges were, thus the enemy would know of the barges and would have been checking in with that pocket every 2 minutes and the second they failed to respond they would have destroyed the place. Also what I ment was they would have more men than you in Seattle at the time because they were preparing an attack on the Democratic forces, and the city would be heavily defended anyway and their army, while spread out is much bigger than yours. Also Expect an attack by reatreating communist forces. I'm gonna go ahead and say their entire defensive line has collapsed to my, Colstream, and Monkastana forces. thus they would try to retake Seattle as their only remaining stronghold in the west. "Lieutenant, we've detected a large rear guard force across the street. They've set up their head quarters in a parking ramp. It's crawling with riflemen on every level at every opening, and those are just the ones on watch." Reported a dust-covered, wild-eyed conscript who looked as though he had run through quite a bit of exploding concrete to get back alive.

"Thank you, soldier." Sofronov said, looking at him. "You're alright, careful you don't get shell shock. You look like you've been through hell, but you'll see the end of this war yet."

Sofronov walked away, patting a medic on the shoulder and pointing back towards the traumatized soldier as he himself continued to the radio equipment set up in one of the industrial trailers.

"Colonel Steller, this is Lieutenant Sofronof. My commanding officers are overseeing the unloading and defense, and this is a matter for you anyway. My men have located a parking ramp being used as an enemy HQ which will need to be taken care of before anything else can be done in this area."

"Lieutenant, you sure seem to enjoy going over your commanding officers' heads." Steller said, laughingly, as though he thought it was amusing. In truth, it was quite a serious offense.

"Not at all, sir," Sofronov replied. "Merely trying to be efficient as they are busy and would need to inform you anyway. That is why I came to you the first time. Time is always a factor."

"I understand; but you strike me as quite ambitious nevertheless. I'll get on the horn to Major Nokia and tell him to organize an assault. How many men would you say would be necessary?"

"To be safe, I'd say no fewer than a thousand."

"You mean to say you could do it with less?"

"Well, sir, with air cover I could achieve victory with my platoon alone; I couldn't clean the place out, but I could make it indefensible to them and force a retreat at best or a stalemate at worst. However, we have the manpower necessary to eliminate the majority of this pocket so that really isn't an issue. Hence safety."

"We'll go with a thousand, then. Report to the Major at, say, 2300 Hours."

"Yes sir!"

Lt. Sofronov and his platoon ran with their heads down across the open street as the sharp crack of sniper rifles exchanged blows that sounded like irregular hammering on a tin roof. Behind them, one of the barges took a direct hit from artillery fire, but Sofronov had no way of knowing what had caused the loud noise, nor the desire to take his eyes from the other side of the street. Smoke filled the streets as an entire brigade moved under the cover of sniper fire and aircraft strafing the parking ramp. Back on the other side of the river, probing attacks had begun being launched in the blackness of the night as midnight approached. Infiltration teams streamed across the narrow, less-guarded locks, or in small commandeered private boats or Vilikiyan rubber rafts.

The Major had commanded a straightforward frontal assault. Sofronov might have done the same; brute force in this situation was acceptable. In his peripheral vision he saw other platoons and companies rushing from cover to cover on approach to the imposing tower, taking out enemy early warning positions and scouts as they ran. Static machine guns from the upper levels of the parking ramps opened up on them as they came closer, spitting death down upon them.

Ahead of them, an entire platoon fell to the street twitching in a single pass of the deadly weapon. Sofronov lead the forty men behind a shoe-repair shop, where a small alley circumnavigated the building. They filed in, pressed their backs to the wall, and waited.

"Smokes." the Lieutenant suggested, throwing the few he had with him into the street. He intended to take the alley through the block, but other companies desperately needed cover to even make it to the alley. He lit a green flare and set it down to attract other comrades to the path past the enemy zone of control. "We're going through this alley, and fanning out as soon as we get into the open again. You will get to the other side of the street, find cover, and then regroup at Rendezvous-Point-Seven. That's the Hotel for those who didn't pay attention before we set out. Let's move!"

Sofronov took point, running through the alleyway, making a left and back out into the open. As he ran across the four-lane road at a diagonal, he pulled the pin on his last smoke and dropped it unceremoniously to the ground before leaping into a roll down behind a parked car as the machine guns opened up again. Behind him, his platoon had done as he had instructed, fanning out instead of beelining across. A few had even taken queues from him and dropped their own smokes. Sofronov stood up from cover and fired a burst in the general direction of the machine gunner before ducking back to cover and moving to the other end of the car and doing it again.

In an instant, bullets were raining down on the car, sending half of it lower to the ground as its tires were punctured. Sofronov crawled quickly behind another vehicle, and to the next and the next, knowing that it would be hard for so distant an enemy to keep track of him in the darkness. Finally, he stood up and ran towards the jewelry store, firing his rifle into the large pane of glass before leaping in. There was no alarm, as the enemy had probably cut power to non-essential areas. Not that there'd be anyone to respond to it, anyway, but he was glad he didn't have to deal with an ear splitting racket as he made his way through the shop to the back and kicked open another door. To his horror, he realized he was beneath the parking ramp now. It was just across one just more street. And though he was probably at too steep an angle for the machine guns, dozens of riflemen had taken up positions behind sandbags at the base of the parking ramp. Sofronov seemed to have caught them off guard, and had the advantage. He began firing bursts from his rifle as he moved down the street, instead of across it, and he rammed the butt of his rifle through another pane of glass of a neighboring shop. Sofronov jumped through it, falling hard onto the ground.

Panting heavily from the exertion, Sofronov took a grenade from his belt, and chucked it as hard as he could over his shoulder. He took the time to catch his breath, reload, and think. He hadn't realized he would be so close to the target after exiting the jewelry store, and he was further from the Hotel than he would have liked to be.

He pulled the pin from his last grenade and threw it in the same manner as the first, providing himself cover to get up and move from his vulnerable position. He moved to the door and waited for the loud pop of his lobbed weapon before moving out into the hostile street once more. Vilikiyans were swarming in from every direction along the street. Sofronov began moving quickly towards the entrance to the parking ramp as well, firing his rifle and forgetting about his objective to rendezvous at the Hotel. He had to seize the initiative.

The wave of Vilikiyan Humanity washed over the resistance, sweeping away the enemy in seconds. Sofronov counted at least two kills for himself as he had crossed the street and threw himself over the sandbags into a prone position, firing along the length of the defensive wall into the many defenders.

He watched squad after squad disappear into the shadowy bosom of the dangerous parking ramp. He desperately wanted to the one to reach the top first and be the one to report victory - what a coup for his career- but he had obligations, and the handful of squads that had entered would need a lot more help to clear the place out, so he told himself he had a better chance of being that officer by rallying his men. Reluctantly, he turned away from the Parking ramp and ran towards the Hotel...

"Hm time to try out this skygaurd defense system that Lyras made. Comms Officer, get the Skygaurd (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=539827&postcount=1)up and running."

About 200 miles west of Las Vegas deep in California one skygaurd division was armed its tracking systems and soon enough fired 200 LY4030 missiles to engage the incoming F-22s. However another Skygaurd division located In northern Arizona, launched another series of 200 missiles to engage the incoming F-22s.

When the satellites saw the incoming fighters the helos were ordered to get back to the Ironheart advancing line and rely on the SAM sites to give proper retreating covering fire.

As the IFVs and APCs approached the city Satellite scanning searched for any signs of enemy resistance, some AT guns, tanks and other military hardware was forming up on the southern side of the city. Without Apache cover the advance would get just out of range of the communist guns and prepare the Ironheart Mortars to fire on the enemy lines....

Now to watch the enemy fighters burn...

To the west of the battlefield the 16th Battle division was scattered out holding key locations against counter attack. While the troops would not get to vegas they had one key weapon for the attack, well more like 600, but they would not get to use all of them. It was the Mokan 205mm Mobile Gun system, with a range more then enough to help the attack.
