Vista Buena State Parliament Elections

Today at 10AM, State Prime Minister Jessica Ouyang made her way to Windbrook Palace to ask the State President, Dr. Peter Fischer, to call a General Election. The State Prime Minister also tendered her resignation to the President, making good on her promise to serve only one term.

Five political parties are contesting this election, and an informal election campaign began about 6 months prior to the dissolution of the State Parliament.

Party Profile

Progressive Democracy Movement (PDM)
Led by: Christopher Remkes (Cranenvaal-Snowdon Estate)
Profile: Served as State Minister of Commercial and Industrial Affairs under the Ouyang Premiership. Remkes is widely acknowledged to be the architect of the economic policies that created unprecedented wealth for the nation. He was elected leader of the PDM by acclamation in a party conference. If elected, Remkes will be the first Black State Prime Minister in the history of the nation.
Policies: Raising GDP per capita to 7th in region (from 9th in region). Further relaxation of governmental regulations without endangering environment and safety of citizens.

Ecological Green Concept (Green)
Led by: Adrian Lim (Coldfield Manor)
Profile: A lifelong environmentalist, he succeeded as party leader after the former party leader, Dustin Shales, resigned to become a State Justice for the State Court of Final Appeals. He retained the electoral alliance the party had with the PDM, but at the same time, decided to field more candidates in this election, mainly to challenge the other opposition parties who opposes environmental policies.
Policies: Further strengthening and enforcement of environmental laws without sacrificing economic progress. Advocates relaxed laws on morals and reform to voting system.

The Civics Party (CP)
Led by: Kyle Raffles (Victorsville-Wessex Estate)
Profile: Leader of Opposition for three years, he has vigorously opposed the government on many issues, in particular, issues of social welfare and social equality.
Policies: Increase of social welfare. Other policies are not well developed, as the CP has adopted an "oppose all" policy in many areas.

The New Citizens Party (Cit.)
Led by: Veronica Vorster (Victorsville-Bloenenbroek)
Profile: The first female leader for the party, she has turned the once muticultural party into a party that represents the voice of the Dutch descendants of the nation. She has vowed to represent the Dutch voices in the State Parliament.
Policies: Increase Dutch awareness of the nation.

The Radical Union (RU)
Led by: Antonio Neves (Millbank-Portside)
Profile: His radical proposals for the party has turned what was once a genuine opposition party into a party that is struggling for survival, even in its Portuguese/Spanish strongholds.
Policies: Revoke Vista Buenan independence. Institute a strictly agrarian policy for the nation, at the destruction of al other industries.
