Operation: Playtime - Attention Yanitaria (Closed)
The sun shone down on the soft, nearly white sand of the beach. Today was hot, like most others in the Orbathain calender. It didn't matter to Corporal Peterson though, he wasn't out on the beach, he was sitting in a muddy trench, under the foilage of overhead trees and camouflage netting. He and the many other soldiers around him were part of the first line of defense against the invasion. Normally, before an enemy could even get near the coast, they would have to endure attacks from the Orbathain Navy and Air Force. The focus of this war game, however, was on jungle warfare, therefore, there would be no Orbathain Naval Forces involved and very little air support.
Behind Peterson and the rest of the many soldiers were artillery and coastal guns and portable and non portable missile launchers. These machine of war were hidden, very well, in the dense jungle behind the entrenched soldiers.
Hidden slightly deeper into the jungle were the reserve units. They would wait until the enemy attacked before launching a counter attack of their own.
Then, much farther back in the jungle was another group of soldiers and artillery. They guarded a makeshift town. That would be the Yanitarians objective.

Edit: Forgot to ask, do you have the map? My next post will be about my general battle plan, and so I need a map.
OOC: Map - http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/PhotoOrbath/operationplaytime.png
The black outline is our area of operations. The red circle is the makeshift town that you are supposed to capture. The yellow circles are the coastal defense batteries, which consist of a CIWS, gun, missile battery. and the white line represents the area most suitable for a landing. The rest of the coastline is either extremely rocky or consists of sheer cliffs. It is possible to land somewhere else, but would be extremely hard.

OOC: What's the scale? Also, what are the rough estimates of the trenches.
My planes would be able to scout out the area at night with IR and get a rough estimate of the trenches, so it wouldn't stay a secret for long.
Also, my troops are armed with AY-142's (Rifles), SHY-10's (Shotguns), MGY-12's (MG's), Javelin ATGM, Red Eye MANPADS, CK-07 Bayonets, and APY-57's (Side arms). Roughly, that is. The Javelin and Red Eye are RL, but the rest are my designs, and can be found at my store.
What is the general armament of your troops?
OOC: I'm actually really bad at maps, I just stole this from google. How does 1cm represents 5km?
What are the rough estimates of the trenches?
They are 6ft deep and about 5 feet wide. They are reinforced in some places by logs from nearby trees. Their is also a sandbag wall and barb wire running along the front of it, this too is hidden by the netting.
What is the general armament of your troops?
Orbathain Fireteam
Commander - 1 M-16A4
Grenadier - 1 M-4 Carbine with M-203 Grenade Launcher
Squad Gunner - 1 M-249 SAW
Designated Marksman - Model 655 M16A1 Special High Profile
In addition, I'll include weapons operated by the heavy weapons platoon.
Heavy Weapons Platoon - 36 Soldiers
2 Heavy Machine Gun Sections - 12 M2 Machine Guns
1 Mortar Section - Normally 81mm mortar, however, the soldiers know how to use and operate the 120mm mortar and the rare 155mm mortar which are often only utilized inside of Orbath, in situations such as the one we are RPing.

OOC: Actually, I was talking about where the trenches were, but the description was my next question.
Don't sweat the maps. Check out my national map (should be in my sig)
Edit: Yeah, it's right in the center.
OOC: Actually, I was talking about where the trenches were, but the description was my next question.
The trenches are about 500 meters from the waters edge and about 10 meters from the edge of the beach into the tree line.

OOC: Okay, so let's get this started. Stoklomolvi, if he is keeping up with this thread will definitely recognize the naming reference.
IC:
Brigadier Jean Sabatier looked over the charts, and the intel gathered by Berkuts on scouting flights.
Potentially, Yanitaria could own the skies. The exercise would start as an air war before anything could happen.
He had a trump card. The unfair advantage of naval supremacy protected his ships, planes would be hard pressed to knock out his carrier when they had to face two Carthage class carriers. He just had to stay out of range of the coastal missile launchers until he disabled them.
Satellites had pinpointed the airfield in the area (ooc: I assume there is one, since the area is small). His plan would become clear soon.
As the opening move, he ordered the first batter of his command ship, the YMS Sagan to fire half of it's smallest battery at the targets he appointed.
800 missiles were aimed at the coastal defense stations. Most of them were standard cruise missile, while approximately 1/4 were designed for hardened structures like bunkers.
He watched as the missiles streaked out of their ports in the night sky, leaving streaks of smoke as they rose.
The coastal batteries were perhaps the most obvious target to strike. Attempts were made to camouflage them but camouflaging such a massive cement structure was rather hard. Since they couldn't be camouflaged, efforts were made to protect them and make them stronger. Unfortunatly, there isn't much anyone can do to protect against 800 cruise missiles. The sheer force of all these missiles ensured that the batteries were quickly destroyed and massive craters were left in their place.
Of course, with the small amount of air power the General had under his control, he would save as much of it as possible to be used for air patrols and close air support. Perhaps that is why he his helicopters moved away from the airfield to a nearby clearing and covered in camouflage netting. In doing so, he had made them nearly invisible.

Sabatier was a bit miffed. He felt he had wasted 800 missiles, as most exploded impotently in the craters that were one the coastal defense stations.
And reloading at sea was impossible with the smallest battery, since it was much higher up than the others. Still, he had plenty of missiles left. Now he wanted to meet the enemy in air combat.
He sent a recon group of 6 SU-47's, 2 Growlers, and a Viking, which flew in plane view of the enemy radar.
This large group was destined for one of the highest cliffs, one that would be hard to attack from, but not impossible. This is where he wanted the first combat to take place.
An AWACs plane was launched with a two fighter escort to watch for the enemy.
OOC: I am gonna avoid missile spam now that the coastal batteries been taken care of in a rather expensive and inefficient manner.
An air patrol consisting of two F-40 Bird of Prey aircraft were the first to spot the group approaching the cliffs. Rather than engaging the larger enemy, they flew away from the area, calling in for assistance. The assistance arrived in the form of 6 F/A 16 Priests who had been on the ground. The eight aircraft, with the F-40s remaining high above the enemies previous altitude while the F/A-16s kept to the the enemies previous altitude. With little searching, they found the enemy again.
''Fox One and Two, this is Command, you are cleared to engage, over.''
The two F-40 aircraft pushed their aircraft into a dive, heading for the enemy group. Each launched 3 AIM-54 Phoenix Missiles and continued in their dive, spraying the enemy with their dual 30mm cannons.
''Panther One, your all cleared to engage, good luck, out.''
Each F/A 16 launched 2 AIM-54 Phoenix Missiles and then broke off, each heading in a different direction.

The Berkuts were not entirely stupid. They were outmatched, and the Growlers activated their ECM pods. Half of the enemy missiles streaked off course, but 3 tore into a pair of Berkuts, and one pilot had to eject. A third missile had gone towards another Berkut, but he managed to jink his way out of the situation
The Berkuts tracked their targets, and launched an Air to Air missile before attempting to fire their cannons.
The Viking simply left the area, followed by a limping Berkut. The Viking's pilot's sent a quick message to Sabatier.
"Recon 1 to Charlie Omega. The eagles are engaged, outlaws outmatch us. Operation Slingshot is underway."
Missiles from the smallest batter, numbering 100 total streaked off to the airfield, aimed for fuel tanks, air craft, and most importantly, the runways.
With any luck, the runways would be torn up and unusable.
The Berkuts received their Charlie Zulu code, and as the fought, tried to bring the fight closer to the Sea, and focused less on getting a shot, and more on not getting shot themselves. The growlers hung back from the fight and provided support.
OOC: My viking is the air refueling variant, so you may want to hit such an important target, but it will momentarily even the numbers.
Still, my military is highly trained, so even with your NS grade equipment, it'll be a good fight. I can't wait to see the outcome.
Also, I am banking on trapping your men in the air. My guys will be dodging and leading closer toward the sea, more than shooting back. Hopefully if my gambit works, your planes will eventually plop out of the sky. Otherwise they'll be able to make emergency landings, which while dangerous, will mean that they can't be captured.
Either way, those planes are in a tough position. Of course, I am only human, and might be wrong.
OOC: My pilots and soldiers for that matter are also highly trained so it will be an interesting fight. As for your strategy, my General wants to rely on a hit and run style tactic but by trapping them in the air, you can force them into an all out fight.
IC:
The pilots knew they outnumbered the enemy, and with the damage done, could possibly destroy all of them. The General didn't want to risk it though, and called them back.
The F-40 pilots, fired a couple more medium range air to air missiles, and turned, heading back towards the air base. The F/A 16 pilots did the same. Halfway towards the airfield they were met with a barrage of missiles. There were dozens, and likely more but they couldn't all be tracked of course. They fired all the air to air missiles they could to attempt to intercept them but it was no good, many made it through.
The airfield was in ruins. Smoke billowed from one of three fuel depots, several hangers, and most importantly, the runway. Crews worked furiously to try to repair the runway, to allow the aircraft in the air the chance to land. The F-40s were running dangerously low on fuel and the F/A-16S would be approaching bingo fuel soon.
Yanitaria

Two cruisers were tasked with suppressing the runway. They fired 20 missiles at a time, hopefully forcing the pilots to use up fuel at a faster rate by gunning their engines to intercept them, but more importantly making the repairmen have to cover their heads and periodically stop working, before repairing even more damage.
Meanwhile, the Berkuts dodged furiously, and the growlers helped knock most off their track, but one plane managed to be hit, and spiraled down towards the earth. Luckily the pilot hit the eject button, and managed to parachute into enemy territory.
More Su-47s were launched, so that 15 were now in the air. They regrouped, and flew low towards the enemy base. At the last moment, they pulled up to their optimal altitude and each fired an air to air missile at a targeted plane.
Unfortunately they were not invisible, so the enemy probably had time to counter.
The missiles struck the airfield, only a handful intercepted. Another fuel depot had been hit, along with a hanger. The runway was further damaged, so much that is was likely it would never be repaired. Instead, bulldozers dug up earth and attempted to fill in the holes, trying to give the aircraft in the air the chance to land. The remaining VTOL aircraft, 4 C-78s took off , staying under the radar, heading for clearing where they would be hidden by netting, until they were needed.
The 15 enemy aircraft didn't go unnoticed, and so, being the most likely to run out of fuel, the F-40s remained closer to the airfield. Rather than resorting to missiles, which they had run out of, they instead attempted to jam the enemies radar.
The F/A-16s were also low on fuel and ammunition, but had no choice but to engage the enemy. They flew headlong into the enemies missile barrage, utilizing, flares and chaff in case the air to air missiles were heat seeking. If they weren't pilots hoped they would be jammed, otherwise they were in for a world of hurt. The pilots each launched an AIM-9 Sparrow and a small burst of gunfire before rocketing straight towards the enemy.

OOC: Stok, it's Jean Sabatier. You should know the significance of the name. Unless you were making WiC references for no reason.
Orbath, I just read the thing, and so yeah. I thought that there were 6 F-40's and 2 F/A-16's, so I was mistaken.
Also, don't forget, my guys fired on yours as well. Should be 15 missiles in total
IC:
The Berkuts dropped their countermeasures and dodged, but two went up in flames before the pilots could eject.
The flares, chaff and jamming had managed to send a few missiles off course and miss their target. However, 4 F/A-16s and 1 F-40 found themselves struck. The aircraft erupted into balls of flames, swirling and gyrating towards the ground below, finally erupting in a massive explosion.
The remaining aircraft attempted a second attack. Now extremely close, the F/A-16s used their last missiles in an act of desperation. As the rocketed straight towards the enemy, each launched two AIM-9M Sidewinder Missiles and began spraying the enemy with their guns.
The F-40 pilot was in trouble. He was nearly out of fuel. He had no choice but to attempt a landing on the damaged runway. Lining up his aircraft he came down, felt the bumps of his tires as they made contact with the ground. He wasn't lucky. One of the tires dipped into a crater that ha not been filled completely. The entire landing gear snapped and the aircraft lurched forward. The awful sound of metal on concrete could be heard and the aircraft slid, almost the whole way down the runway before stopping.
Yanitaria
12-01-2008, 06:53
OOC: Wow, I didn't expect that many aircraft to go down. Let me even it up.
IC:
5 Berkuts were hit by enemy missiles as they dodged and launched countermeasures. One more went down as he flew too low, and clipped his wing on a tree. He crashed right next to the enemy jet on the runway, but managed to survive with a broken arm. He pulled out his APY-57, and prepared to fight for his life.
The 8 remaining Berkuts fired their missiles, and hosed the enemy with their 30mm cannons.
Though well trained, it was nearly impossible for the pilots to hold their own against 8 adversaries. One aircraft was shot with cannon fire mere meters away from the lead enemy fighter. The other pilot, almost out of fuel and now out of ammo dodged in between the enemy fighters, ensuring that if they shot at him, they would down their own.
On the runway, the two smoking wrecks burned. The Orbathain pilot fought his way from the wreckage, badly burned and suffering from a whole host of injuries. Seeing the enemies aircraft beside him caused him great outrage. Not completely sane, he drew his won service pistol and began firing shots randomly at the aircraft.
Yanitaria
12-01-2008, 09:17
The Yanitarian pilot sprayed the enemy pilot's plane with 10mm automatic pistol rounds, with the gun bucking terribly in his one hand.
An enemy round winged his face, causing him to jerk. The pain from his broken arm caused him to faint, firing the rest of his clip into the air.
Above, a Yanitarian pilots were taking casualties. Two planes had been downed in the fierce fighting.
But sensing that the end was near, they pulled into a tight formation, and pulled above the battle before rejoining it, attempting to focus their cannons on a single plane at a time.
Above them, a volly of cruise missiles streaked downwards, headed for the airfield.
The Orbathain pilot didn't have time to react. He soon found that the majority of the enemy aircraft had pulled upwards and were now in deep descent, spraying at his aircraft with cannon fire. He feebly attempted to avoid the cannon fire but couldn't, his aircraft was turned into swiss cheese. The aircraft seemed to glide as it headed towards the ground, crashing just outside the airfield.
The Yanitarians had won the battle of the skies.
Several bullets streaked past the Orbathian pilots face. His pistol had run out of bullets and he'd thrown it, approaching the enemy pilot with his knife. Several of the airfields logistical soldiers as well as several medics had run out onto the runway. Just as the Orbathain pilot leaned down to slit his enemies throat, he heard a roar issuing from the sky. Looking up, his eyes widened with fear. Seconds later his body was tossed, high into the air, landing back onto the runway many meters away, nearly every bone in his body broken. The rest of the people that had ventured onto the runway fared much the same. The missiles impacted against the runway, this time tearing it up beyond repair. They also smashed into the main terminal, and the remaining few hangers. Every plane that had been left at the airfield remained damaged or destroyed. Many had been killed.
Makeshift Town
The General had continued to receive intelligence about the ongoing battle. He wasn't happy, but It didn't come as a suprise. The airfield, like the coastal defenses was a prime target. He only hoped he could outwit his enemy on the ground.

The Yantarian Pilots may have one, but not by much. The planes that returned to the carrier all had bullet holes in them, and would probably be out of commission until after the landings. 10 Berkuts, 25 Fullbacks, 5 Growlers, 4 Hawkeyes, and 5 Super Vikings were all that remained. Still a powerful airforce, and more than enough to deal with the enemy.
The assault would happen at dawn the next day. While the marines were told to rest up, the YMS Sagan, and two resupply vessels would spend the night bombarding the enemy beach with conventional cruise missiles, and PWAR-155 Bananas.
The PWAR-155 Banana was an insidious round that was mostly dead weight, but had a speaker and gas turbine.
As soon as it hit, it started playing "Banana Phone" for two hours before it would run out of gas. A microphone synched all nearby rounds, so that they sung in unison. They are meant to disrupt enemy sleeping patterns, and make it extremely hard to give orders, as well as to annoy the enemy. (OOC: See my storefront for details)
CAS planes would also be flying sorties throughout the night, focusing on the trenches.
The town would only be hit by 1 in 10 rounds. Every half hour, there would be a 5 minute lull in the firing.
OOC: I need to check my PWAR round. I think in the write up I labeled one of the self destruct mechanisms as sodium instead of potassium.
The soldiers in the trench spent the night with little sleep. The annoying sound coupled with cruise missiles which, for the most part, didn't do much damage, ensured the soldiers stayed awake and on their toes. The sorties flown by CAS aircraft proved more effective. Though the trenches were shoddy and not strong, they still managed to hold up against the relentless attacks.
Soldiers in the town took to hiding in the basements and with a very small number of rounds hitting the town, no deaths were reported, though several injuries were.

It was growing near and nearer to dawn. Yanitarian CAS air craft started dropping napalm on the nearby jungle
Some strikes where where the trenches were known to be, many many others were entirely in locations far behind the trenches.
It would be about 2 hours before dawn.
OOC: if you are gonna RP something, leave me 1 hour before dawn. That's when the first troops will arrive.
I wonder, will the napalm stop burning by then? I probably should have checked that before dropping it.
Throughout the night, screams of horror and pain rang out through the trenches. Napalm bombs had exploded, splashing their fire throughout the trenches, burning some of the soldiers. Though in pain, it was too dangerous to leave the trenches or bring medical aid to them. They knew this.
In the jungles, napalm bombs exploded, crating fireballs and lighting the jungle ablaze. One napalm bomb had exploded on the reserve's left flank, lighting an IFV on fire. Another exploded right on top of two helicopters, putting them out of commission.
As dawn approached, the General, though advised not too, came out of his basement command center, climbing onto the roof of the building. It was just slightly taller than most of the treetops, giving him a good view of the area around him.
''Rather pretty if it wasn't so deadly.''
He was commenting on the small fireballs in the jungle that gave off a bright orange glow. This orange glow mixed with a slight pink that had begun to form in the distance. He looked at his watch.
''An hour to sunrise.''
As he turned to head downstairs, he could hear the bugles echoing throughout the city, playing Reveille to awake the troops. He stopped, coming to attention and performing a salute as required. When the bugles stopped playing, he headed back downstairs, ready for the battle that would surely be coming.

15-01-2008, 00:46
OOC: I checked it, napalm B burns the longest, at ten minutes. I'd give them thirty minutes to burn a safe are for what comes next.
IC: The sun was still down, and the Orbathian troops could probably hear the drum of An-72's
Farther out into the jungle, Marine Phantom teams were dropped quietly. They immediately set fire to their parachutes as soon as they landed, to disguise their numbers, and immediately ran into the jungle.
They immediately started scouting enemy lines.
On the beach, Surface group one immediately began shelling the area with smoke rounds, and conventional rounds. Sipahis and Eques loaded with troops revved their water jets, and started to enemy shores at around 10-7kmph. They were covered by CAS planes, and as they got with in the danger zone of the shells, the shelling stopped.
The shells rocked the beach, leaving soldiers heads rattling. In the distance, enemy vehicles could be spotted, coming ever closer. CAS aircraft flew overhead, dropping bombs onto the trenches. As the shelling stopped and the enemy vehicles came into range, mortar crews within the trenches began sending shells towards the enemy craft. It was going to be a hell of a fight.
OOC: Sorry for the rushed post, I've got to go.
Yanitaria
15-01-2008, 20:39
Many shells landed among the vehicles, rocking them violently in the waves. However, due to the current, and the water, the shells that landed in the water were not very effective. However, there were several direct hits, all of which resulting in the vehicles sinking to the bottom.
The Sipahis started firing their remote machine guns and their main cannons at the trenches, and the gunners on the Eques started cutting loose with their 25mm air bursting grenade launchers, and 14.5mm machine guns.
OOC: The 25mm is the M307, and the 14.5mm is the Hag gun that I retrofitted all my vehicles with to replace the 12.7mm machine guns.
The combination of heavy gunfire and grenades caused most to keep their heads down, cutting their firepower down by quite a bit. Despite this, gunners firing M2 machine guns kept up the fire, putting bursts of armor piecing rounds towards the vehicles. Soldiers with AT-4s, Javelins and even Carl Gustav recoiless rifles. The mortar crews kept up their fire, putting 120mm and 81mm shells onto targets.
Makeshift Town
The General was getting reports from the front lines. It appeared the enemies advance had not slowed. It didn't come as a suprise to him. He knew they would advance, and rather quickly. It was all part of his plan. He actually wanted them to feel victorious when they captured the beach. It would give them that untouchable feeling. A feeling he would soon take away.
Yanitaria
15-01-2008, 22:16
The Eques were the ones that took the most damage. They were light vehicles, and could not resist 12mm AP rounds, or the mortar shells. Once on the beach they took the most losses, but they madly suppressed the enemy so that the passengers could exit the vehicle.
It Sipahis faired infinitely better, with their .50cal AP protection, and their Iron Fist APS, and MEXAS Appliqué armour. They took casualties to be sure, but not nearly as many as the Eques.
CAS aircraft immediately started dropping bombs on artillery positions, and the ships fireded heavily on areas behind enemy lines.
Many cheers issued every time one of the many armored vehicles in the infinite mass was destroyed. The absolutly crazy suppressive fire and the dismounting of the infantry mean it was time. The soldiers, though heavily suppressed, rose up, putting as much fire on the enemy infantry as possible. Spotters coordinated the mortars so their last shells would kill as many infantry soldiers as possible.
Along the trench wall, a thick white smoke began to pour out of what would seem like nowhere, but actually issued from hundreds of smoke grenades all over the top, linked together by a strong cord. The soldiers inside jumped out, rushing into the woods behind them. As they did, they continued to drop smoke grenades and claymores, ensuring their retreat was well covered.
The shells and bombs mostly fell on an empty jungle. They hadn't been well coordinated, probably because the artillery and reserve soldiers were well hidden. Despite this, several lucky bombs took out a tank, an IFV a howitzer and several soldiers.
Losses
29 Soldiers
1 Tank
1 IFV

The Yanitarians advanced, vehicles first. The mines exploded uselessly under the v hulls of the sipahi and eques.
Farther in the jungle, Orbathian troops were followed by marine Phantom squads, all of which were the elite recon troops of the marines. The snipers of each squad made sure to know where the leaders were, while the other members kept a silent look out for enemies.
On the beach, more soldiers landed in Chevaliers, Eques, and Sipahis. They took the trenches, switched the directions of the machine guns, and started setting up a landing zone for more troops.
Meanwhile, CAS planes with infrared gear were scouring the jungles, and a second trench with plenty of movement. They radioed in their findings, and the Yanitarians that initially advanced, excluding the phantoms, pulled back, so as not to overstretch the lines.
The Phantoms attempted to move behind the enemy, so that they wouldn't get caught up in a push forward.
The Orbathain soldiers had retreated back to a secondary position. This position was a large hill, covered in natural ditches carved out by running water after a rain storm. The soldiers climbed the hill, taking up positions in the ditches and holes or hiding among the dense vegetation. Roughly a kilometer away, the reserve soldiers got into their vehicles and checked their weapons.
The soldiers in the captured trenches would get the shock of their lives. Buried several inches in the front and back walls of the trenches were C-4 charges. These charges detonated at the same time all along the trench, causing a massive explosion, the fireball issuing into the air for all to see.

150 men who had manned the trenches were blown to bits, along with the weapons left there.
Sabatier, in a fit of rage, ordered a retaliatory strike from the YMS Sagan on the trenches spotted moments before. A phantom squad relayed the exact coordinates of the hill where most of the enemy troops congregated.
100 anti-personnel cluster missiles were launched to saturate the hill. Another 100 missiles were launched at the town.
The bombs fell upon the ditches, not a soldier was left alive. The hill itself was smashed into a thousand pieces, a testament of Yanatarian air power.
Makeshift Town
The town also found itself severely damaged. Bombs exploded and sub munitions smashed into buildings and onto streets. Soon buildings had caught fire and rubble littered the streets.
The General sat, in the basement, listening to the sounds of the explosions and feeling their shock waves. Several had exploded not far from the building he was in, but his had gone unscathed. He didn't yet know of an entire units demise until he attempted to raise them on radio.

OOC: I feel simultaneously bad for glassing your hill, and like I've accomplished something. Although I hold no illusions that this decides anything. You know the terrain, and now my phantoms squad has to recon for more targets.
IC: Moving on the impetus of the moment, the Yanitarians moved to engage what was left of the second line of trenches (ooc: I assume that the hill wasn't the only spot, feel free to RP what they find).
The moved behind their vehicles, and swept through the jungle in a pretty even line, allowing for trees and obstacles.
One Sipahi, it's wheel damaged in the landing, had the axle shaft break, and it's front right tire went rolling off. A recovery vehicle had to claim it.
Sabatier radioed on a long wave frequency. "Attention Orbathian command. We are gathering your dead at the beach. We will allow one lorry, unarmed with the international symbol of a medical vehicle painted on it, to gather your dead men. The living ones will be kept on a Yanitarian hospital ship along with our wounded, as prisoners of war. They will be treated just as we would like our men to be treated."
OOC: Hey, this is one of my first serious RP's. Am I doing okay? Is there anything you object to? In case you were wondering, you are doing a fantastic job, and it's enjoyable to read your posts, due to their organization, and tactics.
The Yanatarians were searching for something that wasn't there and it was about to cost them. Their slow advance would soon be met by the Orbathain reserves,
''Target, 12 o'clock, load.''
''Loaded sir.''
''Fire for effect.''
A 120mm shell soared out of the barrel of the Wolfhound tank, towards an enemy vehicle, seemingly unaware of its presence. The enemy group had travelled just a little to close for the reservists comfort and they had launched a counterattack. The wolfhound tanks lead the charge, sending 120mm crashing through the thick trees towards the enemy. Slightly behind them, the M-49 Terrier IFVs joined in, firing their various cannons and of course, anti tank weapons.
Behind these, now less hidden in the jungle, 6 of the 12 howitzers of 1st Light Artillery Company opened fire, their shells falling like metallic rain onto the enemy.
Deep into the forest, 6 AH-23 Black Panther helicopters, all scattered in different areas took of into the sky. In a matter of minutes they'd be on top of the enemy, able to provide suprise air support.
As for the dead that littered the beaches, a single combat truck, weapons removed with white flags hanging from everywhere possible. It would be awhile before they arrived, having to cut through the dense jungle vegetation.
OOC: Your doing fine and I enjoy RPing with you. Your combination of tactics and outright dominance works out perfectly. I rather enjoy 1 on 1 RPs because they seem to allow for more tactics and strategy. I can also go more in depth which I don't have time for If I have to respond to 8 different peoples attacks. I was wondering if after this, I would be able to try a coastal landing on you?

OOC:Sure thing, but you'll have to wait until things cool down in my region, and I feel comfortable dedicating a force for wargames, and then me and The People's Freedom are planning some kind of conflict, and if it's high intensity, my soldiers will be on standby. But after that, I'd be willing to let you try and take a small coastal town.
IC:
The commander of the advancing troops radioed in "Counter attack, we need to implement the reserve plan."
Sabatier smiled. 10 An-72's (ooc: Originally would have been c-130's, but I am phasing out NATO equipment for their more capable, cheaper Warsaw Pact counterparts) loaded with Guardians, the marine's elite airbourne unit, and the LT-108 Interpol light tank were en route. The planned ETA was ten minutes.
In the mean while, Su-35s were dispacted, 15 in all, with 5 Su-47 escorts armed with air to air missiles, incase the enemy VTOL craft were to attack.
Travelling at even a slow speed, they were in the combat zone with in a few minutes.
Below them, the Sipahis stayed mobile, and made liberal use of the anti-tank variants, but the rest aimed their auto-cannons at the treads of the tanks
The Eques left their passengers, who were armed with an anti-tank weapon for every 10 men, and supressed the enemy with their 25mm and 14.5mm guns while moving to out flank the enemy.
The infantry, who were the most at risk, started yelling obscinities involving the murder of babies and the promised pillaging that would take place. They fixed their bayonets, and ducked between trees, firing as they moved, headed ultimately for the enemy trenches. Support gunners, and anti-armour stayed back to suppress the enemy and take out tanks.
The infantry, as they advanced, focused their ShY-10 shotguns, AY-142 Assault Rifles, and AY-142B Assault Carbines on machine gunners, but only ever stopped to make an quick 2 round burst.
Overhead, the jets roaring by dropped cluster bombs on enemy artillery, hoping to take out the crews, leaving the guns unmanned. Phantom squads rushed as quickly as they could, with out being too noticable, to a position where they could call in coordinates.
OOC: The tactic of rushing an enemy ambush is probably the most effective thing one can do, according to Russkya The idea is that the enemy has sat himself in an area where they aren't highly mobile, sacrificing mobility for the sake of stealth. It is also assumed that they have been waiting for a while, and have a base of fire that is focused on a particular area, so shifting that base of fire when a screaming enemy marine with a scary, 10 inch bayonet will cause panic, at least momentarily, so that shifting the heavier weapons to come down on the enemy is hard.
But then again, your troops might be better trained than that, or maybe they aren't lying in immobile positions that a regular ambush might take place from.
OOC: I've read through that thread and fully agree, though in this case, my soldiers are more mobile.
The soldiers found themselves outgunned and rushed. Waves of enemies appeared from nowhere, and from all sides. The infantry could do little. They pulled their bayonets and if they had time, attached them to their rifles, giving them a longer reach. The fighting became less about who was more skilled, and more about who was the better fighter. Orbathains were trained in bayonet and knife fighting as well as hand to hand combat.
The vehicles began to be fired at from what seemed like everywhere by anti tank weapons and cannon fire. The cannons proved much more effective, many of the anti tank weapons were destroyed by the IFVs protection systems. The IFVs and tanks launched smoke from their launchers, hiding them from view as they wheeled backwards.
Above, the AH-23 Black Panther helicopters appeared from nowhere. They strafed the enemy vehicles, pounding them with 30mm cannon fire and hundreds of anti tank rockets.
The artillery was almost completely silenced. Cluster bombs exploded around them, killing a few soldiers from each gun. They switched from explosive to smoke rounds, to further hide the slow retreating armor.

Half of the Su-47 in turn strafed the enemy helicopters with their 30mm cannons, and fired air to air missiles, three each.
Below, Yanitarian marines, who were also trained in hand to hand and bayonet fighting extensively were duking it out with their Orbathian counterparts. However, it seemed like they were losing more men than the enemy, and they would not be able to keep the combat up for too long.
Above everyone, Guardians descended from the heavens behind enemy lines, with the tanks landing in a clearing 200m away. The Guardians shucked their parachutes, and the one's with MS-12 Vespas prepared to ride with the infantry.
The 250 men, plus 18 light tanks, took a full 3 minutes to prepare, and then immediately marched the 300m to the enemy lines, engaging with bayonets, well aimed shots, and their recoilless rifles on their vespas, and their 100mm tank shells.
The armored force was caught complelely off guard. The fire from the frontal units had stopped but now they had forces behind them. They feebly attempted to defend themselves, occasionaly scoring hits. Instaed of fighting it out though, because they would surely lose, the drove forward, mixing themselves in between enemy vehicles making it hard for the enemy to fire without risking hitting their own. The only downfall was that it made it hard for them to fire as well.
The 7 aircraft caused many 30mm rounds to scream through the air. Mnay shot passed the Black Panther helicopters but three were hit. They whirled and shot through the air unpredictably. Then the air to air missiles came, hitting another two aircraft and destroying them before they even had a chance to hit the ground.
On the ground, the Orbathain soldiers still fought with the marines. The combat was grusome. The ground covered in bloody bodies. It appeared that the Orbathains were tiring, but they couldn't quit. If they retreated, they would surely be killed.

The Yanitarians, their moral at an all time high in the melee started firing their rifles into the enemy before stabbing, but only when they were sure no one was behind them.
Still three marines were accidentally shot
Marines who had been injured, or fell, used desperate tactics, such as throwing dirt in the enemy's face. Some even turned the laser pointer on on their gun, and tried aiming it into enemy eyes.
One marine, wounded nearly to death, bit the ankle of an Orbathian.
Above, the planes turned around and made another pass on the remaining helicopter(s) (ooc: I think you said there were 6, and I only counted 5 going down, feel free to correct me if I am wrong).
The Yanitarian vehicles were useless at such a close range, and so they popped their smoke, and speed back, heading to reform the line100m behind them. Gunners on the remaining eques dropped the crew's emergency pursuit weapon, a single anti-tank mine.
It was risk, pulling back as such, and it blew the wheels and injured the crew of one sipahi. Fortunately they had only been rendered immobile, not killed, thanks to the V-shaped monocoque hull.
OOC: The ankle biter was just for lulz.
Though most of the Orbathain in the fray had been injured or killed, there were still enough for the fight to continue.
One soldiers leaned down to stab an enemy and was hit in the face with dirt. He reeled back, trying to dislodge the dirt which had chunked in his eyes. Another soldier was blinded as a laser from a Yanatarians rifle was flashe din one of his eyes. He charged forward, rifle extended, prepared to stab the enemy. Another soldier felt something at his ankle. He turned and saw a Yanatarian biting into his thick leather combat boot. Pulling free, possible taking teeth with him, he raised his foot into the air, bringing his boot down onto the soldiers head.
The tactic had worked. The Yanatarian armor had been forced to retreat to reform their lines. The Orbathians did the same, regrouping and retreating. Several vehicles were destroyed by mine blasts attempting to do so. With the ground war over, the Orbathain could concentrate on the air threat, which had already destroyed 5 of 6 helicopters and appeared to be coming in for another pass. Some vehicles outfitted with 30mm cannons fired at the incoming planes while others fired Starstreak missiles. It was in vain though, the 30mm easily downed the helicopter with ease.

An Su-47 was hit by a Starstreak missile, and plowed into a Sipahi.
The SLT-31s, since they could aim their smoke canisters, fired them into the lines of troops in wide patterns, hoping to cover the entire line.
The smoke started dispersing, and marine captains blew their whistles. On both sides, the marines pulled out of the smoke, and tried to retreat to the tree line, so that they could start firing their weapons. As they retreated they threw grenades into the trenches.
It was the end for the entrenched soldiers. The smoke poured all around them and they could feel that the marines were pulling out around them. For a few seconds all was quiet. This silence was broken by the sounds of the marines rifles and machine guns and the bodies falling. When the smoke cleared, the trench was littered with the bodies of marines and Orbathian soldiers. Most were lifeless but some squirmed, probably injured in some way.
The Orbathian IFVs continued firing their guns and missiles, hoping to down more enemy aircraft. As they did this, they began to retreat farther into the jungle.
Makeshift Town
The General poured himself a cup of coffee. His 6th already. Things had begun to change for him. Before, he knew almost every move his enemy would make. He knew they would destroy coastal guns and target his airfield, he knew where they would land and how easily they would take the trenches.
He knew they would come into the jungle quickly, looking for the infantry. That's why he planned the ambush. What he didn't know was that he would lose his infantry and his helicopters. He let out a sigh and turned to his computer screen which displayed a map showing the position of his forces and the enemy forces that had attacked him. His forces were on the run, still firing upon the enemy aircraft. A little farther north were the artillery guns, and a little farther north from that was the town. He considered his options.
''I can stop and fight, launch another ambush or regroup at the town.''
The General made his desicion. It would be useless to go back and fight. His enemy had regrouped and were prepared. His force was still busy with the aircraft and at the smae time, trying to regroup. If he sent his forces to the town, they would just get bombed all to hell before the enemy invaded and he would lose many of them. He decided on another ambush. He got on the radio to the men at the artillery guns.
''Battery this Sunray, message, over.''
''Send, over.''
''Cease firing, bury claymores around the guns and set C-4 charges on the guns and shells. Then procede on foot towards the town, out.''
The men at the guns did as they were told. The IFVs cease firing, deploy more smoke and speed away into the jungle, towards the artillery guns.

The Yanitarians cheered as the enemy IFV's pulled back. The order came in from Sabatier to pull back to the beach.
ooc: I have a terrible flu, and thats about all I can write before passing out.
OOC: Sorry to hear that. Hope you get well quickly!
IC:
It was time to set the trap. The artillery guns would be an obvious objective and so, they would be the site of another ambush. Explosives were placed on the guns and the ammo dumps. Claymores had been placed in the surrounding area. The IFVs and tanks formed a horseshoe like shape, farther back into the jungle. The turned their engines off, causing their heat signature to become smaller and they waited.

OOC: Feeling alright now, and unfortunately, I should be able to go back to school by tomorrow.
IC: On the beach, the Yanitarians started building defensive measures on the original trenches, and in the sand.
A pontoon dock was made, but the troops would be basing their operations from the ships for now.
Patrols had revealed no enemy contact as far out as they dared go, and Sebatier was about to move out when an aerial recon patrol spotted something.
The enemy artillery was totally undefended.
In a regular battle, these pieces would be a real find, but here they had little value. Sabatier had no artillery, if the calibers matched, and the enemy surely wouldn't leave their rounds. At the very least they would have destroyed them
Sebatier radioed the airfield. Cargo planes would drop a mixture of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines in the area.
Further more, he planned to strike deep into enemy territory, right to the makeshift town. To further this goal, he ordered huge swaths of area to be mined.
Mining the area was a good idea. It restricted the movement of the Orbathian ground troops. Luckily, the Orbathian armor had already gotten into their ambush positions, so the mines weren't yet a problem. Soldiers watched the sky, and radioed the cargo planes positions back to H.Q. By tracking their positions, they could narrow down the area in which the enemy could advance.

The Marines loaded themselves into IFV-91 'Renards', HMAV-20 'Sipahis', and SLT-31A 'Chevaliers'.
Led by four Chevaliers, the column moved forward, with LT-108 Interpols following the Chevaliers, and the rest bringing up the rear, with Guardians and regular marines sprinkled in the middle.
Phantoms had set themselves up near the enemy camp, and called in cruise missile strikes on important targets, or cluster munitions on buildings that looked like they were full. They also called in napalm strikes on groups of buildings.
The marine force wouldn't be there until the evening, so they had plenty of time.
OOC: By camp do you mean town or ambush site?
Yanitaria
25-01-2008, 21:10
OOC: Oh, sorry, I meant the town
The city was ablaze and the General needed to act fast. The vehicle crews were ordered to retreat north out of the city. The remaining infantry, many of which were already hiding in the basements of buildings, set up firing positions. During lulls in the firing, they would go upstairs and set up positions, then hide in the basements till the bombardment stopped. Still, many soldiers were killed, many by the napalm. In addition, during the escape from the city, several vehicles were lost.
The General decided it was his last chance for air support. Once in the city, it would be harder to coordinate it and he would risk losing his own men. He ordered the last of the aircraft, 6 AH-23 Black Panther helicopters and for C-78 aircraft to launch a final attack. The netting was thrown off and they took to the air, heading for the convoy. It didn't take long, they were only a few kilometers away. More time was spent regrouping then actually flying,
''Black Cats, this is Thunder One, we've spotted the convoy, over.''
The lead aircraft, a C-78, radioed to the Black Panther helicopters who remained slightly behind. The C-78 aircraft prepared. Opening their bomb bays, each C-78 dropped 2 CBU-105s, 2 JDAM bombs onto the convoy, making a total or 8 cluster bombs and 8 JDAMs. They rocketed past, and turned back around, hoping to draw the attention off of the Black Panther helicopters, they had been flying rather low, now rising up, and hitting the enemy with anti tank rockets and 30mm cannon fire.

Many vehicles were destroyed before the personnel could be evacuated. A quick radio message was shot off to the carrier, and in ten minutes, the remaining planes, fighter bomber and fighter, would be on the scene.
However, the bombs had proven deadly. All of the JDAMs had hit a vehicle, destroying it, and the cluster bombs had taken the lives of many marines, including two riding on an MS-12 Vespa, and an Eques.
The remaining men exited their vehicles, and those who had their Starstreak missile systems, about 8 of them total, fired.
However, the 30mm fire was intense, and one man was torn to shreds before he could fire the missile.
The C-78s shot back over the convoy, exiting the area in time to avoid the starstreak missiles. They would loiter, just above the tree tops, out of line of sight. When the helicopters were attacked, they would hopefully be able to take out their attackers. The helicopter mean while, kept up the suppressive 30mm fire and anti armor rockets, deploying flares in hopes they wouldn't be hit. Still, one helicopter was hit.

The helicopters began to take heavy hits, even before the C-78s could react. The attempted to dodge cannon fire and small arms fire from the ground and employed flares and chaff. Still, 3 more helicopters were downed. The rest began to flee, hoping to draw the aircraft after them, exposing their side.
OOC: I know this is sorta controlling your own aircraft and if your pilots wouldn't follow, just let me know and I'll delete it no problem.
As the aircraft gave chase, the C-78s emergerged from above the treetops to their enemies 3 'oclock. The aircraft let loose with their close range air to air missiles, 16 in all, the last they had. Should that fail, they would be useless.

OOC: No problem, they would have. The only problem I have is that I forgot exactly how many aircraft there were, which is not a big issue.
IC:
Only about half the missiles would end up coming with in the danger zone of the aircraft, but almost all of those missiles hit something important.
7 aircraft fell, 3 Su-34s, and 4 Berkuts. One Berkut was stuck by two missiles, and ended up crashing into a squad of soldiers on the ground.
The soldiers below received some shrapnel wounds, aside from the one obliterated squad, but nothing serious.
In retaliation, the planes fired a total of 20 missiles back at the offending planes. There would be no escape this time, for them. Their engines lit up the IR screens, as VTOL aircraft so often do, and so they could be traced easily.
Knowing this, the planes charged forward, following their missiles, and following up with the 30mm cannons. Some Su-34s, 4 in total, made a final pass at the helos, firing their 30mm cannons, and launching air to air missiles.
The aircraft fell to the ground with ease. There was no hope for either the choppers or the fixed wing aircraft. This loss meant that Orbath no longer had any air support. The enemy had total control of the skies which was not a good thing.
Makeshift Town
''General, our last aircraft have just be taken down, our ground forces are our last hope.''
The General smiled. He knew he would lose them. He loved the ability to predict what was going to happen, it just made the event easier to grip once it happened. He didn't know why but he seemed much happier lately, which was odd. He'd had little sleep and had now confined himself to the basement of his command post. Bombs had been falling and soldiers reported a house across the street had been hit and utterly decimated. He sipped his coffee, the last of it, which had begun to grow cold. He had no choice to play the waiting game and show the enemy the Orbathians other strong point, urban warfare.

Inside were packets of coffee, tea, water purification tablets, coffee pots for an entire battalion, and tea kettles.

OOC: No strings attached. It's not poisoned or rigged to blow.
It's all part of my strategy to make your soldiers need to pee a lot.

When possible, soldiers with hearing protection attempted to destroy the source of the noise with C-4. This was effective but only about 10 were actually destroyed. If the bomb landed too close, soldiers would move to another location, farther away and establish a new fighting position. At the old positions, sand bags and old bits of uniforms were used to make the now unmanned positions appear to be occupied. Still, many soldiers found themselves with hearing damage, some permanent, some not. Sleep was nearly impossible but in some, very lucky locations, a few soldiers were able to sleep.

The dawn broke, and the marines, who had had a good night sleep, and a hearty breakfast, were on the outskirts of the town.
With their IR scopes they could see one of the guard posts near where a lot of Bananas had landed. The soldiers inside were clearly visible on IR, and the marines were impressed with the skill with which they had hidden their position.
It was at this point that the marines opened fire with the LT-108 Interpol, and a HESH round.
This was immediately followed by fire as the vehicles all along the side of the town moved forward, shielding the soldiers as they fired on enemy positions.
The round went through the wall and into the building, blasting the room apart and leaving soldiers body parts littered along the street.
As the vehicles advanced into the town, they would occasionally run into anti tank mines. Machine gun nests spit out armor piercing rounds. Soldiers with AT-4 and Javelins appeared on side streets, shooting at the sides and rear of vehicles before disapearing into buildings. Luckily, the Yanitarians underestimated the combat uniform of the Orbathians. Much like Canadian CADPAT and Marine MARPAT, the uniforms were coated in an IR blocking spray. Not 100% effective, not even 50% effective, most of the time, the Orbathains could be identified. But occasionally, the Yanitarians wouldn't spot a firing position and make the mistake of going right by. Their rear would be attacked with AT-4 rockets and machine gun fire before the soldiers disapeared again.
Outside the town, columns of vehicles began heading back into the city, though not heading from the north. Though it would take more time, the vehicles headed around, coming in the east hoping to suprise the enemy and possibly outflank them.
OOC: Didn't even think of that. Edited.

The prodding at the southern portion of the town was all the Yanitarians needed.
They had lost a Sipahi and two Eques before the pulled out, popping smoke and rolling backwards, and back into the forest.
As they pulled back, the soldiers threw smoke grenades into buildings that they knew contained enemy soldiers. These grenades would create red smoke, before switching to green. The idea was that if the enemy were to throw red smoke grenades to confuse Yanitarian planes, a minute later the smoke would change to green, and observers could continue to mark coordinates.
Above, a surveillance plane took down the coordinates of the smoke cans as they were popped, using a laser range finder. The crew relayed the coordinates to the YMS Sagan, which launch cruise missiles accordingly.
OOC: My troops didn't get far into town, few blocks at most. Feel free to write about shooting at them as the retreat, or what ever countermeasure you have to the smoke grenades. They haven't gotten out of the city yet.
The Orbathians knew what was coming. First the retreat, then the smoke grenades, a telltale sign of a coming strike. Whenever possible, grenades were tossed out onto the street, as far away from Orbathian positions as possible. In addition, not expecting the smoke grenades to change, soldiers popped red smoke in several places. They prepared for what they thought would be an air strike. Most soldiers hid in fortified basements. Those with Avengers sought refuge in the best defended above ground positions waiting. The vehicles that were supposed to roll into the city stopped, turning off their engines to dissipate heat.

OOC: What are avengers? I couldn't find them on the Orbat.
My mistake, I meant Stinger. An Avenger is a pedestal mounted Stinger.

My mistake, I meant Stinger. An Avenger is a pedestal mounted Stinger.
OOC: I thought that's what you were talking about, but wasn't sure since NS designers use every name imaginable
IC: The cruise missiles came down, where the now green smoke grenades had were when the surveillance plane marked them.
Because many of the cans had been moved, there was quite a bit of margin for error, however, since painting the target with a laser to find it's position on the map was quick work, 75% of the missiles would hit their targets.
The vehicles pulled back deep into the forest, and dug themselves in on top of a hill.
OOC: Gotta get my essay rewritten for school tomorrow, and release the new artillery for export.

They are all self propelled. Towed artillery is uninteresting, and in my mind pointless. I guess you can helo drop it, but then it's stuck in that area until you get a truck to tow it away.
Edit: Warp
The missiles impacted, suprising the soldiers as they buried themselves deep into buildings, almost always killing everyone inside. Those who hadn't been killed were probably injured. Only a few lucky souls made it out alive, fighting through the rubble and making their way through the streets, dragging the injured and looking for a unit to join up with. Out of the 432 soldiers that had remained in the city, 112 had been injured and an estimated 70 had been killed.
OOC: If you sell a self propelled artillery gun, I haven't looked yet, I'll probably be purchasing one in the future.

All the Yanitarian Mechanized Infantry Companies moved forward, totaling some 624 (60% strength, and mostly the larger, non-amphibious Renards who haven't seen combat yet), plus 150 Guardians on MS-12 Vespas moved forward to the new staging area. The rifle companies moved to secure the beach head, and set up a temporary base camp.
Missiles still fired at the town, and the phantoms moved into position to watch the enemy positions better, and scout out the perimeter. When possible, the snipers took a shot from a hidden position and moved to a new position, but only when the rest of their team was suitably hidden a few meters behind him.
As night fell, more Bananas would fall. The mechanized infantry moved into position as best they could to launch a surprise morning assault. Although the Orbathians must know that an assault would happen.
However the Yanitarian commander was banking on the fact that this would be the third night in a row that some Orbathian troops had not slept.
OOC: D'you have a map of the town? A crude one will do.
OOC: I just google searched till I found a map I liked. I edited in a few things.
The large black box is my HQ. The blue dots show Heavy Machine Gun positions, the red dots are large firing positions, say, an entire section of soldiers. There are more positions, but just too many to place on the map. The orange dots are landmines.
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/PhotoOrbath/townmap.png
IC:
For a third night in a row, soldiers suffered through the horrible sounds coming from the Bananas. Most attempted to sleep, and most couldn't. The odd few found themselves falling asleep at their feet, completely exhausted and unable to take in anymore. The soldiers held onto the fact that an attack was likely to come first thing the next morning, which hopefully meant an end to the exercise and a chance to sleep. They would fight to the best of their abilities and counted on the arrival of the armored force to the enemies flank to do serious damage. They also hoped their landmines and booby traps would be effective.
Thankfully, though sniper shots rang out throughout the night, only a few soldiers were killed. Most were either well hidden or well protected or both. Orbathian snipers began searching out the enemy, while trying not to expose themselves. Whenever possible, they would shoot and scoot.

12AM
It was very dark in the middle of the night. The bombardment stopped just long enough so that overhead cargo planes could rain packs of cigarettes down on the Orbathians. They had, on each one, a note that said "Calm Your Nerves."
Later
Dawn drew closer and closer. It was 3am (OOC: assuming the sun rises at 6am). The last assault of the exercise (OOC: assuming this to be so) was about to commence.
The Surface group was running low on missiles, with only three batteries still full on the YMS Sagan, which was the only ship still capable of bombarding the enemy with out resorting to shells.
Planes took off from the deck of the carrier, and would bear down on the town. The plan was to drop napalm all along the streets, trying not to damage the buildings. It would require high percision, and so plenty of time was alloted. Su-35s would come in low and fast so that they would be lined up with their targets before they even reached the area. 5km away they would adjust for any deviation, and drop their napalm on the streets, hopefully detonating the mines and clearing out anyone in the street.
After all confirmed drop zones were confirmed hit, the planes would return to refuel with a tanker, and loiter in the area, ready to respond to enemy threats, and observe the town. Thats when the Sagan would unload on the town, using the phantoms as observers, and the planes, with their laser designatiors, the Sagan rained anti-building missiles, 300 in total, on the buildings. The missiles would punch deep into the interior of the building, before detonating. The aim was to get into the basements, and detonate the main supporting columns.
As the planes raced toward the city, read to drop their napalm. The end was definitely near.
(OOC: Hope that's okay. For reference, here is a map of what I am bombing. Black X's are targeted buildings, because for the exercise purposes, I'd want to do as little fighting as possible in this town, but keep enough buildings to ensure that it's still a defensible position. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i156/UNDComrade/Yanitaria/Makeshiftcity.png)
The napalm detonated almost all of the mines and killed everyone on the streets. Luckily, the majority of the fighting positions were located inside of buildings, not on the streets, so only about a dozen soldiers were killed. Inside of the buildings, a few soldiers were killed and several more injured. Several sections of soldiers were forced to relocate because their building had caught fire.
Not long after, enemy aircraft came roaring overhead, letting missiles smash into buildings, ripping them and their occupants apart. Whenever possible, soldiers with Stinger missiles launchers attempted to down enemy planes, however, it didn't work so well. The Orbathian force had taken a heavy hit. With many of their firing positions destroyed and many soldiers injured and killed and if not, extremely exhausted, it looked as though the morning battle might be one sided. Still, soldiers were banking on the armor attacking the flank.

OOC: The buildings are being hit by missiles launched from the ship. Still, I'll post losses from the napalm runs. Also, did anyone bother to pick up the cigarettes?
Also, the part where Sebatier is thinking of the Orbathian Morale, it's pure speculation on his part, done for character development.
IC:
Sebatier lingered on the words the communications officer spoke. 5 planes down, but the sorties were a phenomenal success. Napalm rained down on the streets, with confimred detonations of mines. As an added bonus, a few enemy soldiers had unexpectedly gotten caught.
Then missiles rained down on the buildings with terrifying accuracy. Sebatier imagined the effect on the moral of the Orbathians, many of whom had not slept in a while probably eating military rations, stuck in their buildings, watching their comrade's buildings collapse, as dusty corpses and wounded were dragged into their own building. He inwardly shuddered, remembering his days as a revolutionary, and the harsh conditions he once went through.
The communications officer called to him, saying that the planes were now loitering around the city. Sebatier ordered a new flight of fighter bombers forward, along with a tanker and EW craft. The moments passed, and he watched as the planes took off from the carrier.
Outside the City
Captain Torvalds watched as the sun rose through the thick foliage. He imagined it was beautiful, but he could only see the glint of red light through the leaves.
Immediately, the Bananas stopped playing. A single new Banana flew lazily overhead, landing in the middle of town. It activated, and played a recording of Sebatier's voice.
"Men of Orbath. Throw down your weapons, and lay down with your hands in front of your head when Yanitarian troops come. Fighting is pointless. Surrender now, and you'll have a warm bed and warm food in mere moments. Resist, and you will be annihilated. Even as you listen to this, Yanitarian planes control the skies and see all. Yanitarian snipers watch your positions."
Captain Torvalds blew his whistle, along with every other captain. The tanks fired their main guns at enemy positions, the IFVs suppressed them, and then entire forest erupted as 400 men and their vehicles charged forward, hoping to rush the enemy positions.
The planes that had dropped napalm strafed the buildings with their 30mm guns from 1.5km away, before heading back to the carrier. The fresh planes that had been sent arrived and loitered, flying on the outskirts of the town, watching for any vehicles trying to escape the town. Sebatier issued a command that the Orbathian commander was not to leave town, at any cost.
OOC: I forgot to mention it but probably not. Most Orbathians don't smoke, and those that do prefer cigars.
First the ship launched missiles came, blasting into buildings, burying themselves inside basements and exploding, tearing the buildings apart and sending wood, cement and bodies out into the streets. Then came the aircraft. The sound of jet engines tearing overhead burned itself into Orbathian soldiers ears. The bombs fell, punching holes into ceilings and walls, leaving nothing but destruction in their paths.
Pte Eddie sat, slumped against a wall, waiting for a single from the man keeping watch. He'd slept only hours in the past few days and fought desperately to keep his eyes open. He'd fallen asleep once and paid dearly for it. Since it wasn't a real town, cheaply constructed and all, the bathrooms didn't have toilets. Normally the soldiers would use the portajohns, but because of the bombings, they didn't want to risk going outside. Instead the used a ''field toilet'', an empty ration box with a bag in it. Guess who ended up getting ''shit duty'' for falling asleep? He gripped his rifle a little tighter, tapping his foot to keep awake. He realized something.
It's quiet
An eerie calm came over him. Nothing moved or made a sound. Time seemed to have stopped. Then he heard, faintly from his position, a voice.
He found himself laughing out loud, like a crazy person.
''Listen, warm bed, warm food. They took that from us and want to give it back. We'll end up in a detention camp somewhere.''
He opened his mouth again, but stopped. He could hear a piercing shriek, then the sounds of tank guns and IFVs. He was about to move, heading for his window, when rounds tore through the house. They send splinters of wood flying and left many holes in the walls, but didn't hit anything. He used the attack to his advantage. He rolled over, punched a hole slightly wider and pointed his M-16 rifle through it, peering down the scope. He waited.
The first block was hit hard. Tank shells crashed through walls but it some cases, actually went right through the buildings. The guns on the IFVs opened fire on Orbathian positions. At least, some of them. Some of them were actually the ''fakes'' and by opening fire on them, revealed their position to other, better hidden soldiers, using a different fire arc. Machine gun and assault rifle fire began, as well as the sounds from mines as the enemy tanks and IFVs rolled into the town.

OOC: My tanks would actually be using HESH shells against these buildings. Just in case you didn't know, those are tank shells with a plastic explosive head. They hit a building or tank, flatten, and a milisecond later detonate, using the shock waves to damage things on the inside.
It's no big deal, though. I'll continue. BTW, I just designed a couple new things that I think you might like, a replacement for the Stinger, a replacement for the Javelin, and an RPG-7/Type-69/Pzf 3 rip that I like so much, I am going to use as my main AT weapon.
Edit: You can find the preliminary write up in the NOP forums.
IC:
The tanks primarily aimed for the lower walls, using their HESH rounds to mousehole into the enemy buildings. More than one vehicle got caught up by a mine, but the average mine protected Yanitarian vehicle was simply immobilized, and still able to fire.
Slowly and surely, the vehicles shielded the troops as they marched forward, firing grenades into machine gun nests and into buildings. The vehicles would stop on a street, and a fire team would move to secure it and provide covering fire, with two men firing down the street, and two watching the windows like hawks. The grenadier would fire a grenade into every window, while the fire team leader kept resupplying him from a box on set on the edge of the IFV's passenger compartment (the doors to the compartment are open).
Meanwhile, the rifleman and the squad gunner aimed down the street, firing at any enemy positions the saw, along with the IFV or Tank.
Behind every IFV or Tank was a Chevalier, which further secured the rear. The rest of the vehicles stayed around the edge of the forest providing cover fire.
While a fire team guarded the armour, three more moved to secure the mouse holes. The entry team would cook and throw in a frag and a flash bang, before entering into the unknown. Two of those fire teams would enter, while one secured the room they breached.
OOC: The squads are sticking to their vehicles, basically, so if their vehicle stayed by the forest, then so will the squad it carries.
OOC: Actually I was on the draftroom and I noticed them, including the submachine gun you didn't mention and I'm interested in all of it actually :).
Their technique was flawless and well executed. Unfortunately, for the enemy, things were about to get much harder.
Pte Eddie had fired a few rounds at an enemy soldier before taking off towards the other end of the building. He, along with his other to remaining fire team members ducked behind a desk they'd overturned. Not much, but still cover. The tank shell busted through the wall they'd been at just seconds later and exploded, sending bits of metal and splinters of wood flying. Eddie shook his head, He couldn't believe he'd actually survived that. He looked to his left. His fire team commander, a Master Corporal was still alive. To his right, the body of the gunner lay, crumpled against the wall. the fire team commander motioned and Eddie got a grenade ready. He could hear footsteps below, a team entering. As they approached the staircase he waited. A trip wire had been set, and hooked to a grenade. If the enemy tried to climb, they'd likely trip the trip wire, setting off the grenade. Eddie would then charge out, through his grenade down the stairs and take cover.
The enemy didn't realize that further back into the town, door, windows, even alleyways had been booby trapped. C-4 in trashcans and dumpsters, tripwires at doorways, everything had been thought of. The idea was that the enemy would have been lulled into a false sense of security, not expecting anything because of the first row of buildings being clear.
Assault Rifle and machine gun fire continued, though shortened. Most soldiers took pot shots and tried to relocate, hoping to avoid the tank fire.
On the streets, vehicles had been hit by mines and in some cases, blocked other vehicles behind them. This gave Orbathians with Javelins the chance to dart out onto the streets and hit the enemy as quickly as possible, then attempt to flee.
Outside the town, the armored force could hear the battle. They received a radio message from headquarters. It was time to move in. 14 Troop Trucks and 27 HMMWVs. Not a large force but they hoped the element of surprise would work for them. As they approached the town, soldiers informed them, by radio of enemy locations. They wouldn't be able to enter to deep, so they decided on hitting a flank, shooting and scooting.

OOC: Oh yeah, the SMG, totally forgot about that. You'll want to check out the ammo I designed for it in the munitions forums, or the NOP design forum. It's one of the better aspects of the SMG.
Also, I said the RPG-7 rip was a cheap one, but even still, it is more than suitable to replace things like the SMAW, and even the javelin in most instances. The javelin is crazy heavy as it is, anyway. The Javelin replacement is a lot lighter, and preforms better as well, since the electronics and materials are better.
Anyways, I wanted to reply to this, but I realized what time it is. I'll reply as soon as I get to my accounting class tomorrow.

The Building
The Yanitarian soldiers entered the building cautiously, using dental mirrors to check around corners.
Lance Corporal Arbecht was the one who happened to find Pte Eddie in his room, with the others there. He didn't notice the trip wire. He gave the signal to his squad, who then backed up to cover the doors and stairs. Behind them, the team guarding the door watched the mouse hole diligently. They knew that the Orbathians were in their element, and would not hesitate to use their experience.
"Orbathian, surrender and you'll be allowed to live. Soon this battle will be done with, and you'll be allowed to go home to your family. Otherwise, I have a pretty heavy grenade, which I don't particularly want to carry all day. You decide, and do it quickly. It could be the only chance you get to save your bleeding comrade there, or see a warm bed."
The Air
"Bear eight to Bear Leader, over," said the Sukhoi pilot as he circled the battle.
"Bear Leader, rodger."
"Enemy vehicles spotted on the infrared. Moving on grid E8/9.4.1."
"Rodger, Bear Flight, on me, let's throw them a welcome party. Be aware, loiter is almost up, Retro Bear to carrier or tanker if your gauge goes belly side.*"
(OOC: Bear is the Yanitarian Phonetic for B, sorta like bravo. Loiter is obviously the amount of time an aircraft can fly around before the gauge hits empty, or "belly up". Retro is the phonetic for R, and Retro Bear means to retreat back or withdraw back.)
One by one, the members of Bear flight fell into formation with Bear Leader, and moved to intercept the enemy units. On their way, Bear Leader shot a few quick radio messages.
"Argo Leader, this is Bear Leader. Request an ETA, our loiter is almost up."
"Argo Leader to Bear, ETA 2 Micro.*"
(OOC: Another set of phonetics.)
"Rodger, Argo, Bear out." Bear Leader changed Com Channels. "Bear Leader to Paladin, we have enemies coming up on your flank. Grid is E8/9.4.1. Watch for the fireworks."
"Paladin hears you, over."
Bear Leader smiled as he looked over his flight, his little bears. Now would be the time for these bears to sharpen their claws, and learn to use their training. With that, Bear Leader lead the attack on the enemy convoy, but he would have to be quick. They had enough fuel for another 20 minutes, and it would take 15 to land.
He was the first to drop his cluster bombs, followed quickly by the others. They didn't have many, as they mostly had Napalm coming in, but this would do until the fresh new aircraft could get there.

The Building
Pte Eddie laughed in his crazy laugh.
''The bleeding man is dead. You did this. Surrender is not an option.''
Pte Eddie pulled the pin on the grenade and tossed it, letting it bounce into the hallway, rolling just behind his enemy. He then pointed his rifle, aiming just beside the doorway. He assumed their would likely be a soldier there, stacked up, waiting to clear the room. He fired a burst through the wall before taking cover behind the desk, waiting for the sound on the explosion.
Convoy
The convoy of trucks and lightly armored vehicles wheeled through the dense forest, almost at the city. It was in sight actually. The roar of the aircraft above signaled a coming attack. There was little the Orbathians could do. If the planes got close, gunners fired a few bursts from their .50 guns.
The cluster bombs fell, luckily not too many. The submunitions bounced onto the ground or the tops of vehicles and detonated, absolutely devastating them. That meant the vehicle crews now had to choose, help their fallen comrades or continue to the town. The choice was a hard one. The Yanitarians won if they captured the town. If the convoy didn't at least try and remained where they were, the city would be overrun and they would loose. The vehicles regrouped, moving themselves around the twisted, smoking vehicle wrecks and bloody bodies.
7 Troops Trucks and 18 HMMWVs remained. They continued receiving information from the infantry, though several units had stopped transmitting, likely meaning they'd been killed or captured. Soon the dirt turned to pavement and the crews could see infantry and vehicles ahead. Quickly they fired their .50 caliber machine guns into the infantry and vehicles before turning and using the buildings as cover, heading further north.

Building
The Lance Corporal pulled his own grenade off of his web gear and jumped on the enemy grenade. Tears streamed down his face as he counted to 2 before throwing his grenade into the room. He immediately noticed the string along the doorway, but it was too late to tell the others.
With a bang and splatter of gore, we was blown up, but his sacrifice meant that only one other man had been wounded.
The wounded man would be dragged back after the blast to make way for the fire team to clear the room, but first, they awaited the explosion of their own grenade.
Outside
The IFVs and Chevaliers had no problem withstanding .50 cal rounds from the M2 machine guns, although the windows of the chevaliers and the armour of the Eques was vulnerable. Still they outnumbered the enemy transports, and in moments, Argo Flight would rain death on them
In the distance, Argo Leader watched the troop trucks on his display. "Argo Leader to Argo Flight, target the troop trucks, they probably have more men on board. I want two bombs per truck.
The ten planes of Argo Flight made their attack run, 30mm guns blazing, and their cluster bombs primed and ready.
The Building
The grenade bounced into the room and seconds later exploded right in front of the desk. The force of the explosion and the shrapnel from the grenade ripped the desk and the body behind it, (Pte Eddie) to pieces.
Convoy
The Trucks and HMMWVs prepared to move and engage the enemy again however the cluster bombs began to fall. The submunitions once again tore apart trucks and the HMMWVs that were close. Instead of running they rolled out onto the streets concentrating as much .50 caliber fire as possible out the visible enemy infantry. They hoped they could get close enough to their enemy that an air strike wouldn't be possible.
Remaining
2 Troop Trucks
16 HMMWVs
219 Infantry Soldiers

The squad dragged the ripped up body of Lance Corporal Arbrecht, and the other wounded soldier out into the opening. The remaining two squad members agreed to clear the room, but accidentally tripped the grenade, killing both.
Almost simultaniously, the Yanitarians were alerted to the fact that some rooms were booby trapped. However, new squads could not be brought forward until the enemy vehicles were taken care of.
Argo Flight circled around, and made another attack run, straffing heavily with their 30mm before dropping their remaining cluster bombs slightly behind the enemy force.
The 90th Marine Attack Helicopter Wing took off from the deck of their Emden class, and zoomed toward the battle, to aid in clearing the town.
The Convoy dashed down the streets, guns blazing like a calvary charge of old. The gunners sought out infantry soldiers protecting their vehicles. Behind them, cluster bombs began exploding on the streets, ripping apart the two troop trucks and six HMMWVs that took up the rear. They continued down the street, objectives in their mind before they were forced to stop. One group of vehicles was trapped. To their west was a mined area and to their east was the wrecks of several vehicles blocking the road. Some of the vehicle crew members dismounted and took up positions around the area while others worked to remove the .50 caliber machine guns and radios from the vehicles.
The second group was lucky. No mines had been placed in their path, at least not right away so they had the opportunity to head north, one street over from headquarters. They decided their best chance was to dismount, take their weapons and hide and set a trap. Crew members wired ammunition inside the trucks with C-4. The crew then split up, taking up positions overlooking their ambush site.

Argo flight reported the position of the Humvees before making one last strafing run.
Throughout the town, the Yanitarians pushed forward, moving cautionsly, and trying to replace casualties the best they could. From their precious toehold in the first buildings (OOC: Is this okay, or do you want to write out more about taking the first buildings?).
The entire 40th Marine Air Cavalry appeared over the horizon, allowing their soldiers to fast rope down onto the tops of the second row of buildings. It was hoped that the marines in the first buildings could cover the other marines as they took the buildings.
Meanwhile the armour attempted to find ways to circumvent the mines and damaged vehicles. Some of the helicopters updated the maps on the battle net to show which roads were clear, and which were damaged or blocked.
OOC: Its ok
Soldiers below could hear the helicopters approach. Some appeared at the windows firing their small arms towards the helicopters. Most were forced to stay hidden inside the buildings by the enemy soldiers in the buildings across the street. In some buildings, soldiers hastily prepared booby traps. Others rushed towards roof access, bursting out, throwing grenades and hoping to surprise the enemy. After firing a few shots they would rush back into the buildings, not wanting to get hit by munitions from the helicopters.
The vehicle crews worked furiously to take the guns and radios. As they worked, more bombs fell around the already damaged vehicles, killing many of the crew members guarding them. What was left of the crews grabbed what they could, several machine guns and radios and headed into the surrounding buildings. setting up firing positions.

The helicopters fired their miniguns at the enemy soldiers as the attempted to shoot at them, but 4 helicopters, and a total of 47 men were killed just trying to land on their assigned buildings.
As the enemy ran to the enemy building, the helicopters opened fire on the them, and tried suppressing their firing positions if they could find them.
The helicopters remained effective. Every time soldiers appeared and fired their weapons, enemy helicopter pilots had no trouble locating them and putting bursts of mini-gun fire into their buildings.
Soldiers farther north appeared on rooftops, locking onto enemy helicopters and firing Stinger missiles or spraying at them with M2 Machine gun fire.

The missiles were deadly effective, and only 12 of the now empty helicopters managed to survive. In order to minimize casualties, the helos tried flying away from the tops of roofs, and flying low, but still, only a few squads took no wounded or dead from the shrapnel.
The remaining helicopters retreated, allowing the men on the rooftops to mousehole right through the roofs of their buildings, and possibly catch the enemy unaware.
The armour pushed forward, despite taking casualties. They had started staying to the right, so that if they were destroyed, they could barely pass each other, with much scraping of paint.
The soldiers below were ready for the enemy. The enemy would be met with everything from trip wires attached to grenades to satchel charges to tear gas grenades. Every corner the enemy turned inside of the building could be deadly. It was proof that despite being outnumbered, out powered and without proper sleep, the Orbathians were a very deadly fighting force. However, despite the hard fighting and booby traps, the Yanitarians were clearing the buildings.
Certain Orbathian commanders had come up with a plan to ensure more enemy casualties. The wrecks of several helicopters littered the streets, in many cases blocking them completely. Several small fire teams of soldiers emerged from the buildings, checking up and down the streets. In some cases, they could use cover to reach the downed helicopters, in others, they threw smoke grenades and ran for it. Once they reached the helicopters, they looked for survivors.

The fire teams looking for survivors would find a total of 10, all heavily wounded, and liable to die unless they received help. (OOC: This should be interesting).
The Yanitarians were not going to sit and take a beating. They started using smoke grenades to move their vehicles forward, while inside the buildings, troops started throwing a grenade and a flash bang into every room before entering.
The helicopter troops were assigned the ShY-10 automatic shotguns, which would work very well in the CQC of the buildings, while squadmembers with carbines and short Maggies would come up behind them
Every Air Cavalry Squad would have 2 shotguns, a short maggy, and an AY-142B carbine, in addition to their pistols, bayonets, and martial arts skills. And although they took casualties, and had to equip their gas masks, they still fought hard.
In the town center, the Bananas started playing the Yanitarian Anthem, and marines all around the town roared as they engaged the enemy.
Orbathian doctrine stated that injured enemy combatants were to be treated and kept as prisoner. The problem was, Orbath had so many injured, many whom had died later on, that much of their medical supplies were already used up. Instead, soldiers removed any weapons from the injured, and set traps, including satchel charges in the helicopters. They then popped more smoke and dragged the bodies away from the wreckage, towards a building with small basement windows, and excellent place to establish a firing position.
The Air Calvary troops employed tactics just like the Orbathians which happened to be rather effective, however, in some cases predictable. It didn't matter though, grenades did serious damage to the Orbathians, allowing troops to move and clear building much quicker. The odd booby trap would still remain, possibly set off by the soldiers as they cleared though the rooms.
Headquarters
The General had long since locked himself away in the basement, rifle in one hand, coffee mug in the other. Around him he could here the sounds of battle. Gun fire, explosions and the whirling of helicopter blades in the distance. His radio painted a better picture, telling the stories of units, many now deceased whom valiantly and desperately tried to fight off the enemy. He was glad the battle hadn't yet reached his position. It was the best defended area, mines surrounded the road and many firing positions, both hidden and some more obvious awaited the enemy. Thoughts flashed through his mind as he waited and listened;
Did I fail?
No, I did what I could with what I have.
Did my men fail?
No, they fought with everything they had.
He snapped out of his day dream and placed his mug on a nearby table, pulling a cigar from his pocket. It was his last. If he lived long enough, he'd have to resort to smoking the cigarettes dropped by his enemy. He wasn't a heavy smoker but they seemed to calm his nerves.

The intense fighting exhausted the Yanitarian troops, and the booby traps had started to get to them, and make them edgy and paranoid. About as many casualties were caused by traps as by enemy bullets.
Still, they pushed on, and finally vehicle support started trickling towards them. resupplies of grenades, badly needed, were pulled up by ropes or tossed through windows, allowing Yanitarian troops to resupply.
In the second row of buildings, secured buildings now raised Yanitarian flags, and soldiers from these buildings lined the windows, looking for good shots.
The Yanitarians overlooking the battlefield below would see the plumes of smoke issuing from the smoke grenades as the fire teams dragged the final bodies into the locations of their firing positions. Inside the other buildings, most soldiers stayed hidden not wanting to attract from the IFVs and infantry.

Now that a pretty clear path to the final row of buildings had been established, the reserves started an all out assault on the town. Everyone dismounted, and LT-108 Interpols, Sipahis, and Renards started forward, followed by the entirety of the infanty that had been sent along.
Once a good amount of fire could be established, the 41st Marine Air Cavalry moved in to land their troops on the rooftops.
Captain Torvalds thought to himself "We'll take this town before brunch."
He then gave the order over the radio "I want the commander alive. Treat him with respect, aside from the zip cuffs, but make sure he is ALIVE! No excuses! Sebatier considers it a loss unless that man is brought out alive. Once you find the headquarters, radio in. It's likely that he is hold up with his body guard somewhere, so be on the look out.
"I want the Chevaliers and Eques to move around to the back of the town. NOONE escapes this place alive, unless they are carried in a cargo truck, hands bound with zip cuffs!"
The Bananas started playing an ominous drum beat.
OOC: This is all happening at once. So as of the completion of this post, all of that is just being set into motion.
The last resistance was made up of both firing positions established by the vehicle crew members who were employing the .50 caliber machine guns removed from vehicles and by the troops the surrounded the headquarters. The Orbathians could see the enemy troops surging forward, one after another, more and more and knew there was really nothing more they could do. The battle would be over soon but they would not go down without fighting every step. They emerged with a last bit of strength, firing at the endless droves of enemies from their positions in windows and the wreckage of burnt out, blasted apart buildings from earlier air and naval strikes. The injured lay, those that could clutching a pistol, grenade or both, waiting for their opportunity to take out the enemy. The streets were littered with wreckage and bodies. Was it not for the bullet holes, fire and smoke, the place would have resembled somewhere a hurricane had hit.

Despite having a huge numbers advantage, the Yanitarians were quite organized, due to their training. At this point, the squad leaders took turns leap frogging entire squads forward.
They were quite shocked to see the wounded fighting, which quickly led to outrage. These men would rather die than give up on a lost cause! There would be no quarter for them.
Again, the LT-108 Interpols again made mouse holes, just as the air cavalry hovered above. The helicopter based troopers again made mouse holes in the roof, and all around, grenades were used heavily.
However, the grenades had started becoming scarce, and the soldiers wondered if they had enough to throw in every room. Already they had used up a week's supply just to avoid disastrous casualties.
As the sun rose in the sky, the troops, tired and edgy, started to fight with renewed vigor. They knew the battle would soon be over.
One by one, foot by foot, room by room, building by building the Yanitarians swept through the final buildings. They to were booby trapped, though most not as heavily as the ones before. Soon the only area that remained untouched was the headquarters building. Like a shining beacon it stood, untouched by the battle so far. It was one of very few buildings inside the town that hadn't been hit by a missile, bomb, tank shell or gunfire. That was likely about to change. The General was holed up in a small room in the basement. A section of soldiers (8 men) had taken up positions around him. The door, like many others in the building had been booby trapped. The trash can in the next room over contained a satchel charge, and he held the detonator. The stairs leading to the main floor had been wired with explosives, hoping to kill as many soldiers as possible as they headed down the stairs. The main floor was much the same, various traps placed in obvious and less obvious places. Two section covered this area, pressed against walls, some firing out windows at soldiers below. The top floor contained the surprise. Two platoons (48 men) waited. They hoped that they could overpower the small force that would likely venture upstairs, fight them off and take whatever other enemy forces remained by surprise.

OOC: Ooooohhhhh, this is gonna be interesting!
IC:
The Yanitarian forces moved in on the building, and the tanks moved to surround the building on all sides, and they fired their shells at the four sides to make an adequate mouse hole.
The Yanitarians infantry found cover all around the lone enemy building, and all of them took aim at the soldiers firing in the windows.
Finally, with bated breath, they all waited for the first four squads to enter from all side.
Three of the freshest squads were moved forward, but one tripped a boobytrap, and a new one had to be brought forward. Finally, IFVs moved forward, bringing their passangers to the mouse holes. They dismounted, stacked up, threw their grenades, and entered the unknown.
The shells went through the walls, into the building and killed quite a few infantry on the main floor.
As the rounds, began hitting the infantry at the windows, the soldiers tossed grenades outside and hunkered down, waiting for the enemy to enter through the mouse holes.
It didn't take long before the enemy grenades bounced in. Several more men were killed leaving a total of 8 alive on the main floor. As the enemy entered, they opened fire with their M-16s, hoping to kill as many as possible before they were killed themselves.
Yanitaria

A total of half of the initial squad members were wounded, but the weak round of the M16 meant that only 3 of those 8 men died. The remaining 8 men immediately dropped to the ground and fired back. Stricken by the immediately heavy loses, they radioed in that back up would definitely be needed. Four fireteams, of four men each, were sent forward.
The Orbathians took cover, quickly slipping on gas masks and throwing tear gas grenades at the enemy. They gave it time to take effect and reappeared, firing their rifles on burst mode at the enemy. It was somewhat hard to see, due to the gas but the soldiers could make out the body shapes pressed onto the ground. Despite taking cover, they were only using desks, shelves and an sideways door, so some of the bullets went right through the cover and into Orbathian soldiers.

29-02-2008, 01:39
Before entering, the fresh Yanitarian teams put on their gas masks. The remaining squad members were taking casualties.
The new squad members threw in flares to illuminate the enemy inside the gassy haze. They took cover on the side of the mouse holes, and fired right into the enemy.
A pair of helocopters whirred overhead. Two whole squads (16 people) were going to drop directly onto the roof like before, one squad at a time.
The flares would illuminate the Orbathian positions, making it easier for the enemy to see. It also worked in reverse though, the Orbathians could now see the enemy and focused their fire towards them. It didn't matter though. there were only 4 men left untouched and two injured. The amount of fire they could put down was much less than what the enemy could. It didn't take long before another Orbathian was struck in the head by a bullet and killed instantly.
The final three remaining soldiers pulled a flash bang from their tactical vests each. They pulled their bayonets from their belts, fixed them on their rifles, tossed the flash bangs towards the enemy, ducked and waited.
The flash bangs popped and the light illuminated the room for a brief period. The enemy would likely be blinded but the Orbathians were far enough away that they were not.
The three soldiers rushed towards the enemy positions. Rifles ready to stab the first person they saw.
Top Floor
The 48 men above could hear the sounds of battle. At first the rifle fire seemed to be even but now they couldn't here it. They assumed their comrades had been killed and the enemy would soon be using the stairs. They almost didn't notice the sound of the helicopter above. Since many of the soldiers had crammed themselves into rooms because there wasn't room enough for them to take up positions overlooking the stairs in the hallway, about 12 established themselves in positions in the narrow hallway. Along the hallway, soldiers pressed themselves against the walls beside the door, knives at the ready...
Yanitaria
29-02-2008, 02:24
The Yanitarians inside the building were blinded, but the fresh soldiers, being outside, and behind cover, either didn't see the flash, or were minimally affected.
They started shooting at the charging Orbathians, hoping to save the remaining squad.
On the roof, the air cav soldiers mouse holed through the roof, raining debris onto the enemy below, before throwing in their grenades.
The three Orbathians had tried, but didn't manage to reach their enemy. They were gunned down in a hailstorm of bullets, leaving their bloody bodies the only thing in the way of the enemy from entering through the mouse hole.
Top Floor
The mouse hole completely caught the Orbathians off guard. Desperately those in the hallway raced into the various rooms, hoping to escape the blast. For some they were lucky, they made it into the rooms, others were not. The hallway was now littered with bodies and body parts. 9 soldiers had been killed.
Yanitaria
29-02-2008, 02:50
The air cavalry soldiers cursed loudly at the number of enemies.
Cast Squad rifleman radioed in "There are so many of them! There has to be at least 50 up here!" unknowingly overestimating the size of the platoon.
The Fire teams down stairs took up positions watching the stairs. Captain Torvalds ordered the Air Cav troops to take cover and throw all their grenades down the hole (2-3 each, for a total of 44) one at a time, until they seemed to lose their effect.
The grenades fell into the hallway, but they didn't kill anyone, just blasted a hole into the floor and the walls making it dangerous to throw more because they would go straight down to the main floor.
Yanitaria
29-02-2008, 04:28
After the first grenade blew a hole in the floor, Cast Squad Leader ordered them to stop. They went through the mouse hole, careful not to fall down the new hole ,while the men down stairs stacked up heavily on the stairs.
Go code Zed was given, and both groups entered the breach, to face the enemy soldiers.
The soldiers had taken cover in the rooms to avoid the grenades from above. They knew however as soon as the enemy began clearing rooms they would be in trouble. One grenade would be deadly because they were so tightly packed into the rooms.
The Orbathians fixed bayonets, tossed several frag grenades and several flash bangs into the hallway, waited for them to explode and rushed out.
Imagine the look on the enemies face as just under forty bodies surged out of the various rooms, bayonets gleaming, itching for a taste of blood. The Orbathians were split, one group between the AC troops and those who had come up the stairs and the rest on either side. The Orbathians were trapped but so was the enemy. It was rather dangerous for either side to fire their weapons, but not impossible.

The grenades were devastating, killing 10 men. And as the enemies grew near, the Yanitarians had to remember their training in Yanitarian Military Pankration.
The quarters were cramped, so while the front few men fought and died to buy some time, the remaining Yanitarians fixed their bayonets. Then they threw their grenades deep into the mass of enemies.
The Orbathians were trained in a military martial art taught in Orbath, which combined many different martial arts but drew quite a bit from Krav Maga. As the grenades were thrown, the Orbathians knew they had to surge forward or they would surely be killed. The crowd pressed forward and some Orbathians fell and were trampled. It didn't matter though, the grenades landed near the back of the group killing 12 soldiers and wounding another 6.
Yanitaria
29-02-2008, 20:09
With a roar, the Yanitarians pushed forward, but spaced themselves enough to give them room to fight.
They used moves that could be done with a rifle, such as the gastrizein, a quick kick to the gut, and several moves influenced by pencak silat, which allowed for the use of a rifle, would probably be useful.
Other soldiers fired single shots through the gaps, or made quick stands. Two grenades were thrown from the back, on into the center of the enemy mass, and another in the back.
Orbathians were not typically suicide troops and did not believe in killing themselves to kill the enemy in an insurgent sort of way, however as the grenades tapped against the wood floor, many knew they would die anyway. As though it was understood throughout all the troops, some quickly unhooked grenades, pulled the pins and threw them. They didn't risk cooking them so the enemy would have a chance to escape. Other soldiers fired their rifles into the fray, sometimes hitting friend, sometimes hitting foe. Then the enemy grenades exploded into the groups, doing massive amounts of damage. The carnage was unthinkable, any surviving Yanitarians or Orbathians would be scarred by what they saw for the rest of their lives. Blood covered the walls like something out of a horror movie. The floor now had several holes in it and was littered with dozens of bodies and dozens more body parts, some distinguishable, some not. Only 14 Orbathians remained, half with injuries. Those able to stand and fight continued, giving the enemy their absolute last bit of strength, several were actually on the verge of collapsing. The injured lay among the dead, slyly removing their pistols from their holsters. When they noticed an enemy not paying attention, they took aim and fired at their heads.
Yanitaria

The Orbathian troops were too much for the remaining Yanitarians. The 4 men who had survived the grenades were soon cut down, the last one by a wounded man firing his pistol.
Fortunately, fresh squads could now be sent up. Before entering, the Yanitarians called up to them, "We know you can't be in any good fighting shape. Surrender now, and let us take care of your wounds. We don't want to lose any more of our comrades than you do."
After the fighting, several soldiers passed out, two from exhaustion and another from his injuries. At this point the Orbathians knew they could no longer fight. They put down their weapons and carried their injured down the stairs.
In the basement the General had heard everything that had gone on and now the surrender. Normally he would never surrender and fight to the death but their was no chance they would ever win or inflict any serious damage. He left the room, and called up the stairs,
''I am the Orbathian commander, General White and I would like to announce my surrender provided my troops receive a hot meal and a full eight hours sleep as soon as possible. I'd advise you not to come down until the booby traps can be disabled.''
The General gave the order and soldiers went to work snipping the trip wires and removing the satchel charges.

A cheer went up in the makeshift town, and the Yanitarians whistled and roared with glee all through the streets.
The wounded Orbathians and Yanitarians were immediately evaced via helo to the hospital ship situated near the YMS Sagan.
The live Orbathians would then be transported via helicopter to the camp waiting at the beach. Yanitarian cots were set up in tents in a "prisoners" encloser, which consisted of 4 sticks on the perimeter bound by a single length of twine. There, a hot meal of steak and mashed potatoes awaited them.
Sebatier issued a message to General White to stay in the guest quarters of the YMS Sagan, where he would be served his dinner and allowed to sleep as long as he wanted, before discussing the game's events with him.
General White ate a hearty meal, enjoyed several hot cups of coffee and retired to his barracks for a nap. He didn't want to sleep for too long, he had a debriefing to attend. After a few hours he awoke to his watch alarm. He pulled himself out of bed and fixed his combat uniform. He then left his room and asked a nearby marine where to find the briefing room. The marine escorted to the room and informed him that General Sebatier would be arriving shortly.
OOC: I hope you don't mind me controlling one of your men, I just thought it would move things along quicker.

OOC:No problem, for small things like that, I usually don't mind.
Brigadier (just brigadier, there is no Brigadier General) Sebatier arrived in the briefing room, and sat down across from General White.
"So your the guy who blew up all my men in those trenches. That was downright sneaky," he said with a jovial smile.
''You must be the man who had my hill wiped out. It's a pleasure to meet you.''
General White got to his feet and extended his hand.
Yanitaria

"Excuse my rudeness, of course, I forgot!"
Sebatier jumped to his feet and shook the General's hand.
"Pleased to meet you as well. If you don't mind me moving ahead, what do you think of the Yanitarian military? You'll probably be the last foreigner to see it like this before the reorganization."
''From what I saw, you were a very effective fighting force. You either simply overwhelmed my forces and when that wasn't possible, you did things like use those bananas to weaken us before your strike. The only thing I found wrong were some of your strikes early into the operation. You wasted quite a bit of cash by using an absolutely crazy amount of munitions. Oh, also I noticed that your forces were very adaptive. When we presented you with a threat you weren't ready for, you quickly adapted to face that threat, much quicker than most militaries.''
''I actually have the same question for you. What did we do right and what did we do wrong?''
Yanitaria
03-03-2008, 06:38
"Ahh, yes, I was quite a bit liberal with those strikes. Truth be told, I was very worried that if you just evacuated the town, I would run out of missiles. All that's left are RAM, which are useless for bombardment. Honestly, I think there were a number of aspects where I could have improved.
"As for you, the Orbathian fighting man is extremely tough and determined, and more than once my men dreaded advancing. Like after the initial incursion into the town, our men told horror stories of the Orbathians inflicting major casualties on us, so much that we had to bring up extra units to deal with them.
"Honestly, you didn't do much wrong, the scenario was just stacked against you. Our navy was permitted to just laze about here close to shore, with no casualties, and no harassment by your ships. It was quite easy then to use the Sagan's missiles to obliterate your defense from outside their range, and eliminate most of your air capability.
"So really, it's no different than if you started with no non-VTOL aircraft, no shore defenses, and no way to refuel your existing air power.
"However, had I been in your position, I would have had my air power on the beach landings, and I immediately would have harassed the navy. The main drawback of the Nietzsche class is that it's basically a box of explosives, so any damage to the VLS area puts the entire batter that was hit out of commission.
"Also, few anti-runway bombs or AShM to our carrier, and we would have been entirely helpless in regards to air power. The decks of carriers are extremely vulnerable, since they require catapults, and so sacrificing two wings, one of fighters, and one of fighter-bombers would probably have crippled my air power.
"Granted, at the time, I didn't even think of the possibility, so I would not have done any better. We should both note that for future reference though.
"I was slightly disappointed to see that you had to Patriot or Triumf missile systems, which would definitely have threatened my air superiority. And once I had attacked, no Orbathians harassed my troops. You definitely should have sent a platoon around behind my main force to set up ambushes, or keep my men on their toes. As it was, the defense around the camp was extremely lax, and even a squad could have been stupendously successful.
"So, before this list of negatives gets too long, I'll sum it up. You and your soldiers really couldn't have done much, and the one thing you could have done to definitively turn the tide, neither of us thought of until the moment passed.
"On the brighter note, I'll get on with what I liked. The trench blowing up was an extremely smart move, and it took me completely by surprise. From then on my soldiers were extremely fearful of taking your positions. That's one reason why we waited until you were very worn out by the Bananas before attacking, and why we asked you to surrender so much.
"Also, that attack on our column as we moved up to the town was great, however, a mixed force of ground and air would have been so much more effective. Especially if you had a couple Triumfs to keep my planes wary, or at least to take up some of their hard points with Anti-Radar missiles.
"The booby traps were a right nuisance, as well, and you used them very effectively. And the fact that your troops were definitely never afraid to take the fight in close always kept us on our toes. In the close quarters combat, numbers or tactics really didn't come into play as much as tenacity and fighting spirit.
"Overall, my troops and I greatly respect Orbathian military prowess, and we are very glad that you are on our side."
''Thank you sir, It is an honor to be able to stand beside you. I have quite a bit of respect for your soldiers myself. I've haven't ran this through High Command yet but I was curious about whether we could do this again in reverse, as in, I attack, you defend.''
Yanitaria
04-03-2008, 01:05
"Of course, but allow Yanitaria to host the next war game. I would like to have make it an urban setting, with subways, rail stations, and such. It would be a most opportune time to use larger units, such as entire divisions."
''That sounds like an excellent idea. All I ask is when?''
Yanitaria
04-03-2008, 02:25
"Well, Yanitaria is currently upgrading it anti-air capability, and Yanitarian Arms wants to test the final prototypes in the next war game. Perhaps later this week?"
''Ah, right on top of things then. I'll have to run it by the High Council so it will likely be a little longer.'' OOC:I'm actually ready whenever, so don't rush or anything.
Yanitaria
04-03-2008, 03:02
"Absolutely. Now may I show you the pride of the Yanitarian military, the Naval Officers Liquor Cabinet?"
OOC: This design is one I have been putting off, because it takes much more research than most designs. I still haven't even decided between radar in the missile, or as a seperate entity. Radar seeking bombs useless if the radar is in the missile, but it drives up the cost per missile by a butt load.
There are major advantages to both possibilities, and I really have no idea which I will end up with.
''I'd like that very much.''
OOC: What about a radar that can be shut off and two versions of the missile, one with radar and one with out?
Yanitaria
04-03-2008, 03:18
OOC: Actually, radar for these vehicles has to have the ability to shut off quickly, just in case the enemy lobs an anti-radar missile your way, so that's not a problem. However, I am reluctant to put two systems in one piece of equipment because of the cost, but also because if I use both missiles at the same time, it's about the same price, but with lower effectiveness.
Right now I am definitely leaning toward the more expensive version, despite the cost in the long term. I'll probably design them so that the batteries and missiles can "talk" to each other, and provide more targeting data, and hopefully be more accurate.
OOC: Ah, I see. Sounds like a good idea. Air Defense is quite importance so spending the money on it makes sense.
Yanitaria
04-03-2008, 20:26
OOC: Ah, I see. Sounds like a good idea. Air Defense is quite importance so spending the money on it makes sense.
Totally. If I hadn't had air superiority we would have been on almost equal footing in this exercise.
Oh, one thing. Missiles like the ones I used can be attacked by planes, as well as RAM and CIWS. I think there is also one more way to disable them, but I have to look it up.
