Geography
The Vuhifellian Federation consists of a single world: New Vuhifell, and houses the entire Vuhifellian population of 1.4 Million. There are five major continents: New Vuhifell, New Anea, New Leasath, New Aurelia, and Iccard.
The continent of New Vuhifell is mostly made of lush forests and plains, although there are scattered mountains.
New Anea is a northern continent that is defined by extreme permafrost in all areas except the southern coast, where there is a large swamp.
New Leasath is defined by the planet's largest desert, and well as a large concentration of impact craters and mountain ranges.
New Aurelia is a small continent that is defined by a single, massive jungle.
Finally, the continent of Iccard houses a vast array of environments. Ranging from arctic in the north, to a desert environment in the center, to plains and grasslands on the coasts. It is the only continent with significant volcanic activity.
The largest city is Hivezopolis (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/198/461777923_25a39b8aaa.jpg), the capital. It is the seat of government and the military epicenter. It is located on the east coast of the New Vuhifell continent and has a population of 0.7 million, effectively containing half the planet's population.
Vuhifellian History
(I'll only start from 1995, seeing as this is an FT factbook, after all)
Note: Vuhifellians once had a proud Empire that spanned five worlds and 7 billion citizens. Vuhifell was the former homeworld. Vuhifell and all its colonies were assumed destroyed in 2140.

National Anthem
The Hymn of Liberty
This song was developed in the year 1966 as a patriotic tune during a war to fight the neo-fascist and communist rebels which nearly tore the Federation apart. Since then, it has been sung at peace rallies and political demonstrations as a sign of peace. Although only the first stanza of the song is the official anthem, the song is sung, in it's entirety, at the beginning of all state functions, sporting events, military funerals, and graduation ceremonies.
O'er azure skies,
And emerald plains,
Where freedom and justice prevail!
With courage and strength,
We'll fight to the end,
For liberty in our land!
O'er the indigo mountains, to the golden desert shores!

Military
The Vuhifellian Military is divided into four main branches. It is an all volunteer, professional military, with conscription only in times of defensive war.
Vuhifellian Navy - The main space combat arm of the military. Also deals with navigation, research, and intelligence.
Vuhifellian Marine Corps - The main "ground" soldiers. Marines are specifically trained in ship-to-ship warfare, urban combat, amphibious (planet landing) operations, and anti-guerilla warfare.
Vuhifellian Colonial Guard - The de facto Army. They are specifically trained in ground defense and anti-landing operations.
Vuhifellian Space Guard - The "coast guard" of Vuhifell. They maintain order both in terrestrial oceans and in space. They maintain regular patrols of Vuhifellian space and deal primarily with economic and communications concerns.
Vuhifellian Navy
The Navy is the largest branch of the military, with just over 4,000 enlisted members. They deal primarily with space defensive and offensive operations. The Office of Naval Intelligence, or ONI, for short, is in charge of all military research and intelligence. The most common type of ship in the fleet is a Frigate (http://unscdf.planethalo.gamespy.com/images/Frigate.jpg). Vuhifellian Marine Corps
The standard fighting force of the Federation. This branch boasts 6,000 enlisted troops. Most marines are deployed in light infantry or armoured elements, however, there are several special forces units; such as the ODST and the M78.

Vuhifellian Colonial Guard
Not much can be said about the Colonial Guard, except that they are primarily used in the defense of planets against gound invasion. They are inferior to the Marine Corps and are planned to be phased out of the military by 2160, with all ground responsibilities delegated to Colonial Militia and to the Marine Corps.

Vuhifellian Space Guard
Again, not much can be said about the Space Guard, with the exception that they are the primary patrollers of Vuhifellian space. They deal with interstellar commerce and communications and, as such, have managed to convince High Command that they should not be merged with the Navy. They use Vuhifellian frigates as their primary vessel.
