2012: The World To Come...(General Interest thread)

Well, a long while back I saw a thing like this, but it died before I could join it, so I am going to revitalize it, so long as there is interest in the idea. If enough general interest is generated, I will write up a history from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009. Please feel free to ask any questions you see fit, and any issues that you think ought to be addressed, and what the resolution should be.
2008: On the first of the year, Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, causing her son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to call for a renewed campaign against the militants by President Perez Musharaff. Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan Muslim League (N) asserts his disbelief that Al-Qaeda did in fact perform the assassination; rather that it was the work of Musharaff himself. Sharif’s party then vows to boycott the election, leaving a shroud of illegitimacy on the elections in March, in which the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League (F) gained the majority of the seats. Zardari ascends to the post of Prime Minister. His first act as Prime Minister is to call for the restoration of the Judiciary with Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as Chief Justice, but Musharaff ignores his demands.
2008: The Crawford Peace Accords, President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Affairs Minister Tzipi Livni, Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian National Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Egyptian President Muhammad Hosni Said Mubarak, President Nicolas Sarkozy of France and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Kyi-moon in order to discuss the creation of a Palestinian state, composed of the West Bank. The meeting is a reaction to increasing HAMAS popularity in the West Bank, and fear that it may too come under the control of the terrorist organization as the Gaza Strip did in 2007. The Accords create a Palestinian state made up of the West Bank, with Ramallah as the capital. The new Palestinian government then relinquishes claims to Jerusalem, and Bethlehem is established as an international city under the control of the UN. Also, Israel cedes the Gaza Strip to the Egyptians, who will regain sovereignty over the course of the next decade, with in the meantime, the area being controlled dually by the two nations. All Israeli settlements in the West Bank of more than 75,000 people are considered property of the State of Palestine, but under lease by the State of Israel for ninety-nine years, and can only be canceled by the Israeli government, or by a triumvirate committee made up of the United States, France and Egypt. Immediately, HAMAS, Hezbollah, Iran and Syria refuse to recognize the new state, claiming that no Palestinian state will be legitimate without Jerusalem as the capital. The Western media lauds the state as the "greatest US diplomatic achievement since the fall of the Berlin Wall."
2008: Pakistani President Perez Musharaff enacts martial law, after the followers of Nawaz Sharif take to the streets to demand a legitimate election. When the army comes to put down the protesters, gunfire ensues, killing 86 people and wounding hundreds of others. After the massacre, Sharif makes his famous "No More Fear" speech to members of his and the New Pakistan People's Party, a splinter from the faction that controls the Parliament.
2008: At the Democratic Convention in Denver, the party chooses Barack Obama and John Edwards as their President and Vice President, respectively. And at its Republican counterpart in New Orleans, John McCain is nominated as the President, with Mike Huckabee as his running mate. Mayor Bloomberg announces that he will be running as an Independent candidate.
2008: The Committee on National Security in Thailand once again overthrows Thaksin Shinawatra in a coup, assassinating him in the process. This time, the general population reacts with outrage, as rioting breaks out in the streets of major cities. An insurgency begins in the western part of the country by Pro-Thaksin rebels who demand democracy. The situation soon spirals out of control.
2008: Dmitry Medvedev wins election as Russia’s president, and Vladimir Putin becomes the new Prime Minister. In a press conference after gaining his new post, Putin refers to it as a “retirement home” rather than a place from which he will influence Russian affairs. The Tucker Carlton notably decries Putin’s move as a “black day for Russian democracy”
2008: Turkey is admitted to the European Union after it recognizes the Armenian Holocaust. The Kurdish People’s Party calls for the EU to demand that Turkey relinquishes its claims to Kurdistan, and after they refuse to, the terrorist group begins a bombing campaign on in Ankara and steps up attacks on military bases from across the Iraqi border. Turkey demands that the Autonomous Kurdish Regional government apprehends those responsible for the attacks, before the Turkish Army invades the Region. The Kurds then, with the assistance of the United States begin to crack down on the PKK, but not quickly enough for the Turks, who soon begin air attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan and begins a buildup on the Turko-Iraqi border.
2008: The United States election is won by the Republicans, with John McCain earning 45.5% of the popular vote and Barack Obama winning 40.3% and Michael Bloomberg winning 14.2%, enough to win New York’s electoral votes. In his victory speech, McCain calls for an end to partisanship--the voters of this election made a message he says very. He says that his Administration will put this goal on the top of its agenda, by appointing members of both parties to posts in his administration. Key appointments in the McCain administration include Joe Biden as the Secretary of State, Colin Powell as the Secretary of Defense, Bill Richardson as the Secretary of Education, and Al Gore as the head of the Department of Energy.
2009: On the twentieth day of his Administration, McCain and Biden unveil their plan for Iraq: a partition of the country into three federated states, northern Kurdish republic, southern Shia Iraq constitutional monarchy under the control of the Hakim family and a central Sunni republic. The US military would eventually pull out all but a skeletal force by 2011, with the first of the major withdrawals happening in Sunni Iraq, known as the Iraqi Republic of Central Mesopotamia, where the troop surge of the Bush Administration had been most successful. Although some US troops remained as border guards against the still likely Turkish invasion, the Kurdish army soon took over the day-to-day security functions of the region, know as the Iraqi Republic of Kurdistan. Meanwhile, the Mahdi Army vows to continue fighting a renewed war until two conditions are met, the Sadrs are given control of the crown, and the Iraqi Kingdom of Basra is given the exclusive rights to the oil fields of the state. Due to this, many of the withdrawn troops from other areas must be redeployed to fight the insurgency here, an insurgency that is believed to be funded by the Iranian government.
2009: While in Austria on a goodwill tour, Iranian President Mahmoud Achmadinijad is assasinated by an Austrian Jew due to his controversial comments on the Holocaust.
2009: The insurgency continues in the Shiite kingdom, forcing the price of oil up to $134 at its peak level.
2009: McCain announces that he will allow an amnesty for illegal immigrants who have been in the country for the past four years, and can offer proof that they have been working during that time. McCain uses the model of the Reagan amnesty, with the additional stipulation that workers must learn English, and take an English aptitude test proving their knowledge of the language. Also, he reintroduces the Dream Act, giving outright citizenship status to the children of illegal immigrants and their families who have demonstrated excellence in school.
2009: McCain authorizes the creation of a high-tech surveillance system and wall on the border, with the most secure areas being near major cities. Also, he gets Congress to pass a law that gives college scholarships to members of the Border Patrol in order to give possible recruits more incentive to join the unit.
2009: McCain’s flat tax plan fails in senate, marking the first major failure of his Administration.
2009: Vice President Mike Huckabee and Senators Harry Reid and Ken Salazar write a bill that gives insurance companies federal subsidies for taking on poverty-stricken clients at a substantially lower rate than normal clients.
2009: David Cameron is elected as the Prime Minister after elections in Britain hand power to the Tory Party.
2009: Tata Industries merges with Nissan, creating the largest car company in the world.
2009: After a bombing attack in a French mall by a Turkish guest worker leaves 15 people dead and 148 wounded, anti-immigrant/anti-Muslim feelings sweep through France. Mass rioting occurs in the suburbs of Paris, where the majority of the guest workers reside. Turkish and other Middle Eastern businesses are ransacked by the European population but the situation is soon under control thanks to President Sarkozy's firm hand, he mobilizes the Army to the hotspots of the rioting, and announces that anyone caught performing insurrections will be prosecuted and imprisoned.
2009: Oil drops to $110 per barrel.
2009: As things begin to calm down in Iraq, McCain announces his ramped up involvement in Afghanistan, coining the name Operation Douglas, after the US hero Douglas Macarthur. The plan calls for an increase in the troop numbers in the country to 100,000, and the inclusion of 20,000 French soldiers, 7,000 German soldiers and 3,000 more NATO troops. The primary aim of the operation is to end the opiate trade in the country, thereby eliminating the Taliban’s primary source of revenue.

In 2010, a worldwide critical economic crisis provoked by a new record on petroleum prices led Europe* into turmoil, bringing again the phantom of civil war, and the Spanish government answered to the constant rioting of miserable people with oppressive police violence. From this date to 2015 anarchism started to gain significant support from the oppressed population thanks to many who would risk their lives to spread the ideal.

*Replace Europe with only Spain if convenient.

That kind of goes along with my timeline basically saudi arabia and iran go into a nuclear war with iran launching ICBMs at saudi arabia causing the price of oil to reach 180 dollars per barrel and causing several stock markets to downturn.

How about this, a terrorist attack by a Turkish guest worker who felt isolated within Spain prompts the Spanish government to crackdown on people of Arabic descent within the country, causing many of them to adopt Anarchism and other radical ideals in retaliation to the oppression, soon begin widescale riots, in which they were fought by the police and Nativist sympathizers. The riots are caught on TV by news stations, and these galvanize much of the younger generations into believing that all government is corrupt.

I'm afraid not, considering the atheist majority, the primary European ethnic origins and that Muslims are a minority in Third Spanish States. But no problem, there are many Earths with many outcomes in NS... if my nation history don't belong to this one then I simply won't join.

My nation's history has a similar anarchic plotline. Essentially:
As the economy collapsed, socialism increased dramatically in England (well, some fictional country, so in an Earth any non sociallist 1st world country would do), and as the government was unable to respond to the growing ridiculous demands of the working class, rioting started.
This led to a reform of the government, which though it claimed to be an effectively socialist democracy, was essentially a dictatorship currently aimed at gaining support in the population. They cracked down on the intellectual class, notably installing a law that if a scientist didn't discover something useful for the public whithin 2 years of their graduation, they would be imprisoned and sent to working camps. (Scotland, and Northern Island have gone off to do their own thing by now, this is just England and Wales, and Wales is a bit insignificant).
This led to a widespread revolt among the intelligentia, and with hospital's shutting down, many of the people panicked. The government tried to send in soldiers to control the revolt, But, as only the rebels had access to decent healthcare, the army took many casualties, and many soldiers joined the rebels in exchange for decent healthcare for their injured friends.
Within the next few months the rebels gained power and popular support, and the government started losing power because of internal problems. As clear pieces of land were coming under rebel control they decided to form their own government. Essentially, the only laws they could agree on was a protection of personal freedoms, and no specific government system gained clear support. So, they decided on a system of small states, composed only of people willing to abide by the same laws, unified by an "anarchic alliance", to take care of Defence, Foreign Relations, and the protection of personal freedoms. Some of these states were as small as one person, and each state had a right to one representative in the parliament.
This movement gained support in neighhbouring countries, and rebel cells claiming to be part of the alliance appeared, notably in France, Belgium, and Norway.
Having enough trouble in it's strugle against the English government, the alliance decided to give them only ideological support.
Eventually, the English government essentially collapsed, and though many people still claimed they were loyal to it, the alliance decided to ignore them, as they were sufficienly intimidated by the alliance's army not to do anything radical. Hooliganish violence was still present between the loyalists and the anarchists, but the alliance was already establishing itself as a new nation, rebuilding whatever economy it could in the worldwide depression, and accepting new well established states in Normandy, Flanders. These states were relatively powerless, as they were on average much larger than the English ones.

Ok, so that's the current state of my nation. I know it's very borderline on realism, so feel free to make ammends where you feel neccesary. I'd like something in that general direction though, if possible.

2008 Election: The race is run between Barack Obama and his running mate, Bill Richardson and the Republican Romney/Thompson ticket. The Democrats win 50.56% of the popular vote, with a surprising amount of votes going to Ron Paul’s Libertarian party, 12%, in fact. Many feel that Ron Paul cost the Republicans the election; the third time in the last four elections that such an anomaly had occurred. Ron Paul came close to winning New Hampshire, with 43.6% of the vote in that state. Key nominees to the Obama administration include Joe Biden as Secretary of State, Colin Powell as Secretary of Defense, James Baker III as the National Security Adviser, and a notable variety of other members of both parties.

Even though it isn't confirmed, theres really no reason why it wouldn't and if I am later refused I'll simply delete this. I was thinking about creating a history for the Russian Federation using the guideline on the first page.

History:

After the spike in oil prices, President Vladimir Putin authorises the increased tapping of oil reserves throughout the Russian state. This sparked a mass market expansion throughout the nation, and its GDP rose exponetially. This money, fueling an increase in infrastructure, futher stimulated the economy and propelling the Russian Federation to become a global superpower. With a revamped economy and a powerful gross domestic product, the Russian Federal Military was also revamped. Now with one of the largest, well trained, and best equipped militaries on earth, only the enigmatic leader of the Russian State knows what shall happen next.

(OOC: Its short, I know. But give me credit, I'm in class right now ;))

Firstly, Putin is no longer the leader of Russia, look at the history, it is now Mendevev, also, I think that it needs to be toned down a tid bit, I can't see all of this happening in the course of 3 years, especially since right now much of Russia's resources are unable to be reached by easy transport.

I'm interested, particularly in playing the PRC.

No offense, but I would like someone with a little more RPing experience to take over China, but feel free to choose a more minor nation, such as Ghana, for I could really see them becoming a regional power.

I'm wondering, do we edit the history's for our own countries and them have then reviewed to make sure it all makes sense etc. because I assume some things will have changed in them over three years, as your history is a 'general scope of things internationally.

Anyhow, I'd like to claim India.

yes, you are correct, and I would love to have you play India.

Actually the majority of what I wrote was based on what I saw while I was actually in Russia two years ago, simply forwarding it ahead six years, as well as adding in Putin being declared President for Life which is something I STILL insist will occur. In short, I'll change it however you want, its your RP after all! But I'm simply defending that it isn't too unfeasible from my standpoint. Also who is this "Mendevev" you mentioned? I've never heard of him and I'm still reading that the Russian Federation is still ruled by President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov. Surely that didn't change while I was away in China and according to what I'm reading, it didn't.

Dmitry Medvedev was anointed as the preferred successor to the presidency as declared by Putin himself, who announced he will not be running again for the presidents office. Rather, he would prefer to be the PM.
