<\ History:

<\ 2070 (est.): Launch of the Colonization Vessels

>> The colonists who settled the systems of New Port Allansberry, Redwarren, New Madrigal, Fort Stratshaft, Basilica, and Channel came from a planet whose name has since been lost to time. Lore handed down through generations describes an advanced post-industrial interplanetary civilization wrought by strife and conflict. From what little is preserved in historical archives and the national museum, the colonists were transported aboard six sleeper ships whose names have been similarly lost.

<\ 2150 - 2245: Period of Unification

>> The Period of Unification is widely remembered as the golden era of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar, established in 2204 by King Hendon IV (better known as King Hendon the Just). An era of peace and discovery, society flourished as the newfound colonies became important seats of commerce, government, and education. Even the poorest citizens were comfortably middle class during this time, and the standard of living was extraordinarily high for a developing civilization. This period ended in 2245 with the First Invasion.

<\ 2245 - 2310: The First Invasion

>> The First Invasion began in 2245 when an alien species, now known to every citizen as "The Destroyers," invaded the Channel system. Striking quickly against military and government facilities, they subjugated the outer colonies within two standard months before moving against Channel IX. Only a last-ditch defense mounted by planetary authorities succeeded in stopping the invasion, although six months later the planet fell to the invaders. The war eventually spread to encompass all of the systems of the Kingdom, with fighting in the streets and in the skies alike. Much of the fleet was destroyed, and most worlds were depopulated by more than half.

>> In 2310 the attackers gave up and withdrew without warning, vanishing beyond the Pershing Nebula on the outer edge of the Channel system and leaving ruined worlds in their wake. Recovery from the First Invasion took more than a century. Losses were eventually calculated at 3.74 billion dead and more than fifteen trillion credits in damages. Although the war last more than a half-century, in this time not a single one of the alien attackers was ever seen in person. Instead they wore suits of powered armor, wielding considerable firepower and vaporizing their dead rather than leaving them on the field of battle. Strikingly this bears a close resemblance to practices and policies of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar, making for the first time in the Kingdom's history that it engaged an alien species with probable social policies so close to its own.

<\ 2311: Establishment of the "Maxine Directive"

>> With the colonies and core worlds devastated by the First Invasion and lying in ruins, the government was weak and essentially powerless. To prevent systems from asserting their independence King Justus Maxine III established the Maxine Directive, creating a powerful special-operations unit whose name to this day remains unknown. Rumored to have operatives in every branch of government, occupying key positions, this shadow government has been attributed to many events since 2311 and remains responsible for protecting the government and way of life of the people of the Kingdom.

<\ 2321 - 2490: Era of the Six Kings

>> Considered the second golden era of the Kingdom, the Era of the Six Kings began following the toppling of King Justus Maxine III from the throne in late 2311. Kings Erenden II, Sanctar, Galdenor, V'tendor, Dojman, and Terlan are widely considered to have been the architects of the rebuilding of the Kingdom. Under their wise leadership and guidance society once again flourished and the people prospered. This era came to an end with the assassination of King Erenden II in 2490.

<\ 2491 - 2510: The Second Invasion

>> With society reeling from the first-ever assassination of a member of the Royal Family, "The Destroyers" again returned. Striking against the New Port Allansberry system their initial assault failed when the far-superior military forces of the Kingdom easily defeated the assault, but attacks soon began to succeed as the attackers began to enjoy numerical superiority. Within two standard years many outlying colonies beyond the core worlds had again been devastated, and millions of refugees poured into home systems. Only with the establishment of the Fortress Doctrine did the tide begin to turn against the invaders. Under the leadership of First General Fable, who seized the throne in a military-backed coup d'etat in 2496, millions of laborers and conscripts were soon mobilized to construct vast defensive space stations and ground positions throughout every system. Entire worlds became armed camps, ringed with millions of defensive positions and structures.

>> The most famous of these is the Allansberry Line, which soon after coming online defeated an assault of staggering proportions. Combat raged along the line for ten days and nights before the shattered attacking force was compelled to withdraw, its munitions spent and hundreds of thousands of the aliens dead.

>> In 2510 the military government went on the offensive, unleashing six war fleets of ten thousand ships each that soon drove the aliens beyond the Pershing Nebula. Following up on these early wins with a crushing invasion of outposts and colonies that the aliens had constructed within the Pershing Nebula, the government sought to end the war with a decisive show of arms but instead found itself embroiled in a war seemingly without end.

<\ 2510 - 2760: Operation Jericho

>> Intially billed as a quick and easy end to the war, Operation Jericho instead turned into a 250-year campaign to eradicate the alien menace once and for all. The war soon spread far beyond the Pershing Nebula, where it became apparent that The Destroyers had colonized thousands of worlds and systems. New technologies began to appear to deal with the aliens and their seemingly endless armadas, such as combat drones and larger warships capable of operating away from home and fellow ships for decades at a time. Far-flung duty stations became the norm, and patrols could be expected to last a decade or more. Ships were constructed at vast mobile space stations, often with the ability to build their own replacement escort vessels, fighters, munitions, and weapons.

>> Social experts consider the war to have become so routine to the ordinary citizenry of the Kingdom that it faded to almost a non-social issue after four decades of unending fighting. The war is considered now by military experts to have faltered from 2510 - 2525, but in 2526 the Kingdom again went on the offensive and soon had the aliens on the run. These periods of static back-and-forth combat exchanges continued unabated until the end of the war in 2760.

<\ 2761: End of Operation Jericho

>> In 2761 Operation Jericho was officially declared over, the alien threat crushed and thousands of systems laid waste to in the quest for vengeance against the brutal alien threat. The Destroyer's home system was itself nuked by over a thousand weapons in 2599, obliterating over six billion of the enemy's citizens and leaving the fifteen planets little more than shattered balls of irradiated rock in space.

>> Since the end of the war occasional patrols and long-range scouts have reported sighting alien ships, but these have proven little more than survivors of the holocaust that many citizens now refer to as "The Reckoning." In 2725 a fleet was mobilized to the Channel Sector, whose political boundaries had spread beyond the Pershing Nebula, when reports suggested the aliens had begun collecting a fleet of pre-war relics to attack the Kingdom again. This collection of antiques was easily destroyed and the surface cities that had somehow escaped the war were flattened during a thirty-six hour bombardment by Retribution directed-energy phase cannons.

<\ Planets of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar: Inner Colonies

<\ The homeworlds of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar include four permanently-inhabited star systems, seventeen star systems with varying degrees of inhabitation, and forty-one charted systems. The permanently-inhabited systems form the major seats of political, military, and economic power; their citizens are widely considered to live privileged lifestyles, as the poorest one is a comfortable middle-class. Most of the Inner Colonies are polluted and scarred with all-too-evident signs of rampant industrialization, which characterized the period following settlement. Despite this the Inner Colonies enjoy a booming tourism industry, and New Port Allansberry and Redwarren are both popular destinations for travelers arriving through the Intergalactic Trade Hub, which has exits in both the New Port Allansberry and New Lanham systems.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/CapitalofKorahbyTalros.jpg

<\ New Port Allansberry is the third planet in the Allansberry system. It is the capital planet of the Kingdom, and the site of most major governmental institutions. Approximately one-eighth of the total population of the Kingdom resides either on New Port Allansberry or in the Allansberry system. Most of the population works in the government, an almost impenetrable network of obscure titles, government offices, and rules of procedure. Because of (or perhaps, despite) this, all of the major corporations have offices on New Port Allansberry.

>> Polluted and littered with old mining areas and debris fields, the Allansberry system is not the vision of a new beginning that was envisioned many centuries ago. Despite the pollution from years of industrialization, the vast majority of the aristocracy lives here – even the most impoverished citizen is comfortably middle class. The military also has their primary headquarters (HIGHCOM) on New Port Allansberry, with an Officer Candidate School on the second moon and countless other facilities scattered across the planetary surface and throughout the system.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/Strathwick.jpg

<\ With forbidding cold and gray skies, it is hard to envision that Strathwick used to be a cosmopolitan environment of suits, traders, dockworkers, security, and freelancers. First settled in 2247 by traders seeking a 'safe zone' along the Redwarren-New Port Allansberry trade route, at the time plagued by piracy, it was later discovered that the vast sheets of ice covering the planet's entire surface hid a rich fortune in mineral deposits. During the subsequent boom, great areas were paved over to make way for large-scale commercial development.

>> Over the next two centuries Fort Strathwick was depleted of most of its "financially attractive" natural resources and the atmosphere nearly ruined by industry. As environmental conditions declined, many of those on Fort Strathwick departed for more hospitable planets or stations. The population shift left behind those who knew little beyond mining, drilling, and refining, and those who were simply unable to afford the ticket off-planet. This led to a lawless environment that spawned legendary pirates, thieves, smugglers, and the like. Eventually the military stepped in to restore order, against the backdrop of the First Invasion.

>> Since the establishment of the first military bases in 2290 the military importance of the Fort Strathwick Military Complex, as the system is known today, has grown by leaps and bounds. It is the headquarters of FLEETCOM Sector One, including New Port Allansberry and the Inner Worlds, and is the primary supplier of civilian and military spacecraft to the Kingdom and its citizens. HIGHCOM, FLEETCOM, the Marine Corps, and numerous governmental agencies have offices on Fort Strathwick, alongside the Royal Navy and Marine Corps OCS Academies, and ONI's largest headquarters facility outside the New Port Allansberry system. It is also rumored to be a designated continuity-of-government location in the event that the capital were overrun by hostile forces.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/Redwarren.jpg

<\ Redwarren represents aristocracy and tradition in the Kingdom. Settled in 2198 by farmers, miners, and craftsmen from New Port Allansberry, it has been a key supplier of agricultural products and exotic items from its bountiful forests and rich land since the mid-23rd century. Devastated in the First Invasion by a foreign biological contaminant that wiped out almost all plant life on the planet, carefully-managed ecological projects and advanced genetic engineering have restored the planet to much of its former glory.

>> Redwarren has few appreciable mineral resources but possesses arable land, an ideal climate especially for the growth of rice, wheat, and corn, and occupies a key position astride the shipping lanes to the Outer Colonies. It is also home to one of the most prestigious universities in all of the Kingdom, and today its population consists mostly of academics and farmers. To protect their common interests both groups have restricted industrial development on the planet, seeking to avoid environmental disasters that befell so many other worlds.

>> This lush green world is home to the Redwarren Research Institute (RRI) – an institution devoted to pure scientific research. Only the research facilities of the Royal Navy are larger and more cutting-edge, and RRI frequently recruits retired military personnel who formerly worked for the navy into their organization.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/NewMadrigal.jpg

<\ On New Madrigal, day and night each last for nearly a standard year, with the nightside of the planet being plunged into frigid, bitter winter, and the dayside a more temperate summer in which temperatures hover above the freezing point. Despite this potentially hostile environment, New Madrigal is located close to the abundant natural resources of the Walker Nebula, which has brought an era of prosperity to the planet in the last decade. Political authority on New Madrigal is centered around the Kingdom and its agents, but the powerful and influential Church of Navarre administers day-to-day affairs and most theological matters of state. New Madrigal is the only planet in the Kingdom that mandates religion as a part of education, a continued matter of contention between the Royal Family and the church.

<\ Planets of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar: Outer Colonies

<\ The Outer Colonies of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar include eight permanently-inhabited systems (Bishop, Halbrigpoint, New Brase, Slicciberg, the Fort Ash River Military Complex, New Lanham, and Fort Fallenwick), fifty-six star systems with varying degrees of inhabitation, and six hundred twelve charted systems. Most colonies were established during the Second Invasion; only a handful had been settled beforehand, and most of the latter were devastated during the conflict.

>> Crime remains high, and both smuggling and piracy are issues which the Royal Navy remains focused on stamping out. Travel in the Outer Colonies is dangerous and often conducted only by well-escorted convoys or unmanned freighters. It is also navigationally hazardous because of a region known as the Barrier: a dense series of ice fields, asteroid belts, and other navigationally-challenging problems which sit astride the primary shipping route (the Minas Corridor) between the Inner and Outer Colonies. These obstacles have prevented further development of the Outer Colonies.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/Bishop.jpg

<\ The most mysterious planet of all found within the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar, Bishop was once home to a highly-advanced alien species. Scientists believe this species, capable of interstellar travel, died out roughly one million years before settlement occurred by refugees fleeing the Second Invasion. Today Bishop is a closed scientific zone, with further settlement prohibited by Special Order No. 15-544A-24/03.1C of the Royal Security Council. An exception is made for the Brothers of the Sainted Hood, a monastic order whose scientific texts and library rivals that of the Redwarren Research Institute. The Brotherhood, established in 2209, alleges to trace its roots to a planet known as "Galileo." To date little evidence has been produced to support this claim.

>> Recently-offered tourist day cruises, launched from the orbiting passenger liner King's Folly, are considered one of the must-visit attractions in the Kingdom's space. Run by Orbital Cruise & Spa, Ltd., the liner offers day-long trips to the planetary surface (more expensive privately-guided tours are also available), in addition to amenities including gambling in the on-board casinos, shopping, spas and mudbaths, and trips by shuttlecraft to the nearby Walker Nebula and Research Station Isigo, run by the Redwarren Research Institute.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/York.jpg

<\ Farming colonies and small settlements dot the surface of York, one of the more remote worlds of the Kingdom. Settled soon after expansion began into the Outer Colonies the government was in need of raw materials, and it was soon realized that York's lower gravity well made it perfect to situate a refinery in planetary orbit. Today York is the kingpin of a giant industrial operation that encompasses the Halbrigpoint, New Brase, and Slicciberg systems, whose raw minerals are transported to Stokes Smelter to feed the largest space-side industrial installation in all of the Kingdom's space. Various alloys, ship hull panels, armor pieces, and engine parts are produced for domestic consumption and export at the sprawling facility.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/AshRiver.jpg

<\ Prison, factories, shipyards, armories, and more, the Fort Ash River Military Complex is not only the center of military power in the Outer Colonies, but it is also the economic and political seat of powers. Originally a single base in the mountains of the fourth planet in the Ash River system, in the last five decades the system has been drastically overhauled by the Engineering Corps of the Royal Bautizan Navy.

>> Support facilities within the system for the extensive planetary base now known as Camp H.T. Jones include the prison station Huntsville, better known as "The Wall," in orbit around the seventh planet of the Ash River system. Other facilities include the Kensington shipping platforms, Fort Defiance (famed for its bloody to-the-last-man resistance during the opening days of the Second Invasion), Crow's Nest (a station rumored to be operated by ONI), and the Southampton Shipyards. Facilities located outside the system, but supporting the operations of the Fort Ash River Military Complex, include prison station Sugarland and Border Station San Diego in the New Lanham system, and Border Station Riviera in the Fort Fallenwick system.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/NewLanham.jpg

<\ One of the more recently-settled worlds in the Kingdom, New Lanham is atypical of most frontier settlements: peaceful, law-abiding, and well-run. This can largely be attributed to its being a "satellite system" of the Fort Ash River Military Complex, providing logistical support to visiting Royal Bautizan Navy warships and home to a permament garrison of the Colonial Marine Corps. New Lanham has a growing reputation however as a popular tourist attraction and is a growing stopover point for ships going to and from the Intergalactic Trade Hub (ITH). Recent planetwide protests over plans to relocate a RBN battlegroup to the system to provide security for ITH traffic have led to current friction between the planetary government and Royal Family-backed military authorities.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/places/BorderStationRiviera.jpg

<\ Border Station Riviera in the Fort Fallenwick system is just one of over a hundred such stations in existence, with locations ranging from environmentally-challenging planets to asteroid belts, from planetary orbits to converted starships. Border Station Riviera provides services to travelers and collects customs duties for ships entering the Kingdom through the Intergalactic Trade Hub (ITH), as well as providing local security. One of twenty border stations that were built to the "Monarch" design series, it was constructed during the Era of the Six Kings (2321 - 2490) and has since gained historical significance as one of few facilities that held off The Destroyers in the opening days of the Second Invasion (2491 - 2761).

<\ Population

<\ Overview: The ethnic history of the Kingdom's citizens remains unknown, but from a fragmented history and lore passed from generation to generation it is clear that they are not indigenous to the present-day territory inhabited by the Kingdom. Nearly all citizens suffer from a common medical condition of a weakened immune system and are carriers for a disease called "The Traveler's Plague" (not fatal to Bautizans but fatal to most other species). The cause for this is unknown but has been a subject of extensive study since the Period of Unification. It is believed that the disease may have been brought to the Kingdom with the earliest inhabitants. To prevent contamination of other species all citizens are required by law to wear self-contained suits of powered armor from the age of six onwards. Most suits contain some measure of self-incinerating device(s) to destroy the suit and wearer after death.

>> To date not one citizen of the Kingdom has been seen outside their armor, leading to numerous rumors abroad.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/Bautizan.jpg
The SafeGuard 2144 is considered one of the most popular armor lines in existence in the Kingdom. Numerous specialized models exist for varied fields, including engineers, soldiers, farmers, laborers, law enforcement, and hospital staff.

<\ Although the Church of the Nine Worlds is the state church, the Kingdom has complete religious freedom. From ages six to sixteen, children attend compulsory schooling. After completing the ninth grade, more than 85% of children elect to attend either state- or privately-run universities for either academic or technical education. There are currently no compulsory requirements for either males or females in military service, although plans have reportedly been discussed at the higher levels of government to institute such measures within the next decade.

<\ Bureaucracy is cited as one of the major problems in average street polls on the core worlds of New Port Allansberry, Redwarren, New Madrigal, and Fort Stratshaft, leading to a loss in productivity and obtuse regulations and requirements for everything from business to healthcare. Despite this the health system is considered best on the core worlds, whose hospitals are often government-funded and -run, as opposed to private clinics with substandard care on more outlying worlds.

<\ Government

<\ Overview: The Royal Kingdom of Bautizar is headed by the Royal Family, who has ruled the Kingdom since it was established in 2204 by His Majesty King Hendon IV. Supporting the Royal Family in day-to-day decision making are two cabinets: the Colonial Authority Security Council (CASC) and the Colonial Cabinet (CC). The CASC consists of three representatives from each of the four core worlds of New Port Allansberry, Redwarren, New Madrigal, and Fort Stratshaft, the Colonial Customs Authority (CCA), Colonial Navy (CN), Colonial Marine Corps (CMC), and the Colonial Militia (CM). Responsible for security matters of state, both at the local and national level, the CASC often convenes on Fort Stratshaft due to its military importance and prestige.

<\ The Colonial Cabinet consists of a chairman, designated by the secretary-general and voted upon by the General Assembly (GA), and other ministers. The CC generally handles all matters not addressed by the CASC, and normally convenes on New Port Allansberry.

<\ The 450 members of the General Assembly (GA) are elected from 15 planets, based on a complex system of population-based representation, to serve five-year terms. The GA is generally in session on a New Port Allansberry-centric calendar from early November until late August but rarely convenes in practice, owing to the immense distances and inherent communications difficulties with outlying colony worlds. More often than not matters of policy are simply deferred upon to the Secretary-General, except on the gravest of problems.

<\ Each planet is overseen and run by a governor, who is elected by direct popular vote of the planet's populace to serve a term of five years. In the event of a deadlock or constitutional issues with the vote, the matter can be referred to the Colonial Supreme Court (CSC) for arbitration. Each governor and their duly-authorized agents are responsible for the maintenance of basic infrastructure, the promotion and enforcement of Colonial policies, and the continuance of a just and fair government at a local level.

<\ Economy

<\ Overview: The economy of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar is heavily reliant on widescale automation at the local level, encompassing nearly all major and minor industries such as agriculture, transportation, shipping, and manufacturing. It can often take upwards of a month to travel between planetary colonies, making redundancies in local industries a necessity, especially on the more outlying colonies. There is often heavy government involvement in industry at an official level; interference in local industry is infrequent and sporadic at best on outlying worlds, common enough to provoke nothing more than grumbles on the core worlds. The Kingdom is richly endowed with natural resources – wildlife, oil, deuterium, coal, iron, tin, zinc, titanium - and large amounts of fertile growing land, enabling near-constant support to a booming population. Domestic activity is and will continue to be a secondary driver to the economy despite the distance factor, with industry and the resultant growth in supporting industries contributing to high consumer confidence and strong investment spending into the transportation industry, and the manufacturing/industry sector.

<\ Royal Bautizan Navy (RBN)

<\ Overview: The RBN forms the principal arm of defense of the Royal Kingdom of Bautizar. It was founded in 2204 as the military arm of the newly-established government. Until the First Invasion of 2245-2310 its mission remained unchanged:

1. Support of local authorities in law enforcement and anti-smuggling programs.
2. Maintenance of the space lanes of communication (SLOCs).
3. Forming a first-responder force for use in natural disasters or other major emergencies.

>> In this capacity the RBN was reliant on the generosity of local governments in providing funds for pay of Navy personnel and the annual budget, dependent on local governments to provide recruits at their discretion, and was required to consult and obtain approval before any deployments could be made. It also led over the years to a focus on smaller ships of limited capabilities, especially destroyers and corvettes, that were to prove incapable of forming an adequate core for the fleet in a wartime situation.

>> These shortcomings in RBN policies and focus were exposed during the First Invasion. Further shortcomings of note were an infrastructure focused on supporting light fleet units and not line-of-battle warships, an inadequate officer and enlisted training program, and no prior experience with combined-arms fleet-marine corps field tactics because of a prior separation of the two respective branches.

>> In between the First and Second Invasions the RBN's focus was extensively altered and dramatically overhauled, to the point of raising tensions with colonies that had until that time enjoyed the freedom to pursue their own policies and maintain independent planetary defense forces. The Royal Navy Military Reform Act of 2315 charged the RBN with the following duties:

1. Power-projection abroad and domestically in support of Royal Kingdom of Bautizar objectives and policies.
2. Protection of the space lanes of communication.
3. Maintenance and operation of all naval units, bases, and other associated facilities, subject only to the oversight and approval of the Colonial Authority Security Council.
4. Transporting, supplying, and assisting the Colonial Marine Corps (CMC) in completion of ongoing operations.
5. Ability to supplement local authorities, if so requested, in the event of natural disasters or other domestic emergencies.

>> Although this transformation was still underway when the Second Invasion began in 2491, it was accelerated rapidly owing to the ongoing hostilities. The new areas of focus served the RBN well and are widely believed to have contributed to the eventual victory of the Kingdom over "The Destroyers" in 2761. They have also remain unchanged since the end of the war.

>> Since the end of the war RBN focus has continued to remain invested in the large fleet of multi-mission platforms capable of remaining away from home for years at a time. Given the Kingdom's relatively small population compared to its area of authority, a dependence and reliance on automated technologies has emerged, much to the chagrin of military planners who once envisioned and planned for manpower-intensive operations in the opening days of the war. Units such as the Atlas class CVFNs and long-serving Gearing class DDSGs as widely considered as representative of the next generation of warships, which will likely continue this established trend. Domestically-produced equipment, although in some cases inferior to foreign technology, remains the principally-used systems aboard all RBN ships in service. The RBN has more recently committed itself to an aggressive program of expanding its presence in the Outer Colonies, primarily through operations based from the Fort Ash River Military Complex.

<\ Munitions Used By the Colonial Navy

>> MAC Ammunition

Carbonized Lead: This ammo uses is a simple lead slug encased in a hard shell of crystaline carbon. It is fairly cheap and works very well against most armors, but shields are a problem.

Depleted Uranium: Very commonly used by Colonial pilots, this ammo is incendiary and also has great penetration.

EMP: A new technology, this highly advanced ammunition emits a focused EM pulse. It is very potent against shields.

Fusion: The destructive power of a fusion warhead is superior to most other projectile warhead available. It has problems penetrating heavy shield systems.

Nuclear: Nuclear weapons may be considered by most races to be crude and primitive, but Colonial pilots and private security corporations still favor them over more sophisticated weapons due to their abundance of materials for plutonium production in Colonial space.

Phased Plasma: This ammo uses a similar plasma containment core as hybrid charges except that it is mounted in a standard cannon shell.

Proton: Emits a focused, high intensity proton burst upon impact. It is fairly effective against both shields and armor.

Titanium Sabot: This is among the most feared ammunition around. It has excellent penetration. Once the ship's outer layer is penetrated, the core explodes, spraying the interior with a cloud of fragmentation fletchets that cause considerable damage to the vulnerable interior structure.

>> Anti-Ship Missiles (ASMs)

ASME-015 Cataclysm: Extra-heavy antiship missile with an EMP warhead. A navy-produced missile with good capabilities, the Cataclysm was for a long time confined solely to the Colonial armed forces, but exports began roughly two years ago. The missile is now common throughout all of Colonial space, and is widely used by freelancers, corporations, and private security forces in combination with the ASMK-017 Ripper and ASMT-006 Justice.

ASME-016 Devastator: Extra-heavy antiship missile with an explosive warhead. A very basic missile for capital ship launchers with a reasonable payload. It utilizes the now sub-standard technology of bulls-eye guidance.

ASMK-022 Paradise: Extra-heavy antiship missile with a kinetic warhead. The mother of all missiles produced by the Colonial Navy’s Fort Ash River Military Complex Armories, its tremendous payload is guaranteed to get its victims acquainted with their personal god in a quick but painful manner.

ASMT-008 Wrath: Extra-heavy antiship missile with a thermal warhead, it was the first domestically-produced large missile. Constructed of reactionary alloys, the Wrath is built to get to the target. Guidance and propulsion systems were initially used in unmanned attack drones, making Wrath fast and nimble despite its heavy payload.

>> Railgun/Flak Cannon Ammunition

Antimatter: Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of antimatter atoms suspended in plasma state.

Iridium: Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of iridium atoms suspended in plasma state.

Lead: Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of lead atoms suspended in a plasma state.

Plutonium: Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of plutonium atoms suspended in a plasma state.

Thorium: Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of plutonium atoms suspended in a plasma state.

Tungsten: Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of tungsten atoms suspended in a plasma state.

Uranium: Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of plutonium atoms suspended in a plasma state.

<\ Atlas Flight IV class CFVN

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/ships/Gearing.png

<\ Description: Atlas class CFVNs represent a fundamental shift in Colonial Navy policies, which until the First Invasion of 2245 - 2310 was focused on squadron- and flotilla-size combat. Owing to the Kingdom's relative isolation from the rest of the galaxy at large, foreign threats were not considered credible by military officers. Obviously this changed in the wartime environment.

>> The original Atlas Flight I carriers were converted merchant ships bought by the Royal Bautizan Navy during the First Invasion (2245-2310) to serve as fighter and troop carriers in wartime service. Yet the design principles of a long-range strike vessel met with considerable success, leading to the purpose-built Flight II and III models.

>> The present-day Atlas Flight VII CFVN dates to the closing years of the Second Invasion (2491-2760), and is considered the embodiment of the original long-range strike purpose of the Flight I. Its initial debut was marred by the loss of six Flight VII models at the disastrous Battle of the Twin Ports in 2496, but it was notable even at the time for correcting longstanding deficiencies. Notable examples include improper weapons placement, weak shields, poor engine thrust, and insufficient structural support for emergency maneuvers. In service during the wartime years they won much praise, yet suffered a high casualty rate (40 lost, 37 damaged of a total of 110 in service) because of their prominent role on the battlefield. Standard escorting policy in the war's closing years became these ships being escorted by no less than six destroyers at all times.

>> The introduction of complimentary automated technologies, including drones and Virtual Intelligence systems, has raised efficiency of the class far above original expectations, and units of this class can be deployed solo for long-range duties (although in practice this is almost never the case). A total of thirty-four remain on active duty today, far below the 110 that were fielded during the war, with most of the decommissioned units assigned to the reserve fleet at Camp Kennedy.

>> The operation of these vessels continues to pose a logistical challenge to the RBN, one that will likely not be addressed within the next decade as the service shifts increasingly to a reliance on the less-expensive Gearing Flight IV CASCGN. During the Second Invasion the complex challenges involved in supporting these vessels led to the introduction of the Cradle class stationary dockyards (almost as large as the CFVNs themselves). Their size has also limited the facilities that these ships can call at. Thus far to date they have only been observed docked at the Fort Ash River Military Complex and the Fort Strathwick Military Complex.

<\ Gearing class Flight IV CASCGN

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r67/S_Baxter2064/ships/Fargo.jpg

<\ Description: Stablemate to their larger cousins of the Atlas class, Gearing class Flight IV CASCGNs have long since earned the title of "the ships that built the Kingdom." The Flight I model dates to the First Invasion (2245-2310), when at the time it was considered a pioneering design that espoused sheer firepower over fleets of ships. A success from the start, only in the closing years of the war was the Flight II introduced, incorporating numerous lessons learned at enemy hands throughout the war.

>> The Flight III was introduced during the Era of the Six Kings (2321-2490), serving as a long-range commerce cruiser to support the Kingdom's trade interests abroad. Frequent callers at foreign ports-of-call during the pre- and post-Second Invasion years, these vessels are considered to this day to be the premier vessels of the diplomatic corps, and many remain in service. Upgraded beyond their original specifications, with sumptuous interiors and VIP spaces, these ships are equipped with some of the most cutting-edge communications and sensor technologies to support their roles as diplomatic vessels.

>> The Flight IV is considered the heavy vessel of the entire series, and was introduced shortly after the Second Invasion (2491-2510) began. With thicker armor and heavier shields than previous models, the luxurious accommodations of the Flight III and the speedy maneuverability of the Flight II were rejected in favor of what some in the military called the "all-or-nothing principle." Described by critics as expensive, slow, unreliable, and poorly-designed, the class possesses battlewagon-like qualities and is notorious for bristling with firepower at the cost of speed and maneuverability. Mechanical problems have also plagued the design since its inception, and most Flight IV models are expected to spend about a third of their designed lifetimes in drydock.

>> Despite their flaws and shortcomings, Flight IV models enjoy continued widespread popularity in the fleet. During the war they had the lowest casualty rate of any warship design in service, and were often described as "mobile fortresses" by battlefield commanders, mowing down enemy warships that sought to challenge them. Mechanics and engineers have especially praised the designer's deliberate intention of making these ships easy to upgrade with future refits, and quartermasters fleet-wide have often loaded these ships with supplies to excess on extended-duration patrols, thanks to their cavernous cargo holds.

>> More recently several of these ships have also found homes with the Department of Science and Nature as base ships for long-distance scientific expeditions. Over the next two decades the RBN has voiced an intention to decommission several dozen of the ships and station them in systems across the Kingdom as starbases and defense platforms.

>> Unusual for a cruiser design, Flight IV models are capable of accommodating two frigates or six corvettes in an offset dorsal starboard-side compartment in the aft section. In peacetime their carrying of escorts is limited for policy and strategic reasons, but deep-space rendezvous with transports and supply vessels routinely take advantage of this otherwise unique feature.
