Communists strike terror in Kahanistan (ATTN: Praetonia, Kahnistan)

Anton Vasilev hummed as he drove his truck down the street. An independent truck driver who owned his own vehicle, business had been picking up lately with the Special Economic Zones that the government had established in the wake of the evacuation, and that meant more money in his pocket. The trailer he was carrying right now was evidence of that, another shipment of materials for a Praetonian factory in the SEZ. He sniffed, almost compulsively. This trailer had an odd smell emanating from it, but that wasn't so unusual in and of itself. Once he had pulled a trailer loaded up with fish; he still wasn't sure the reek had gone away months.

Anton sighed as he finally pulled in behind the factory and backed up to the loading dock. As he shut off the engine, the radio went along with it, which noticeably brightened his mood. It had been tuned to a talk show that, predictably, was on the Treaty of Haversham and Kahanistan's new status as a Praetonian Protectorate. As talk shows have a tendency to do, it had been a long running stream of vitriole that provided ample amusement for him.

"What'cha got here?" asked one of the factory's dockworkers as Anton climbed up the steps to the dock.

"Manifest says its machine parts, but its reeking something awful," he replied as he handed over the manifest. "Probably got a crate leaking oil everywhere."

"Yeah, that sounds right. Let me just open this up..." agreed the worker as he unlatched the trailer to slide it open and inadvertently triggered a six thousand pound AN/FO bomb that had been responsible for the reek.

The resulting explosion vaporized both the factory dockworker and Anton where they stood; no remains of theirs would ever be found. Only a massive crater would mark the spot where the bomb had gone off, turning the factory into a charnel house and shaking the community for miles around.

The soldiers of the Prole Platoon have launched a successful attack against the Capitalist Pig Dogs of the Praetonians! Our brave soldiers have successfully leveled a factory operated by evil profiteering bourgeoisie who continually oppress our peoples!

This action is a direct response to the so-called Treaty of Haversham which reduces us all to slaves of the Praetonian Imperialists! We demand that the Praetonians leave and that President Sklenova immediately disband these "Special Economic Zones." Otherwise this will only be the initial blow of a fierce Campaign to rid these fools from our shores who prevent us from taking our steps forward into the glories of True Communism!

OOC: He shouldn't, because you seem to be roleplaying as his citizens, most likely without his permission. Also you haven't specified how that bomb got there in the first place; three tons of high explosive would probably be a bit difficult to get in without inside help, which brings us to how you corrupted a guy on the inside.

Three tons of AN/FO is doable by a domestic group without outside aid. OKC bombing used 5,000 pounds of it. As the name suggests, AN/FO is a mixture of fertilizer and fuel oil, each of which is readily obtainable in large quantities.

No corruption there, simply a fake manifest. They tell an independent driver to pick up a trailer at such a place to to another such place and give him a fake manifest of what's actually inside. I should have explained that better in the beginning however.

Just got a TG back from Kahanistan giving the go ahead for the terrorist attacks. So this thread is a go.

Within twenty minutes of the explosion in the S.E.Z. of Westport, Kahanistan, local police officers and investigators from the National Police were on the scene. Discontent with the Treaty of Haversham was rife - it was one of the most controversial government action with the Kahanistanian populace, and the Senate only approved by a narrow margin (with widespread belief that they were threatened with invasion), so domestic terrorism was immediately suspected.

President Nadia Sklenova, a Communist, spoke out against the bombing.

"We do not express political discontent in this nation by killing innocent civilians. This cowardly act of terrorism, far from driving out foreign investment, will only serve to harm innocent people with no benefit in sight. These murderers will be found, and punished to the full extent of the law."

Police spokesperson Commander Sean Finnegan blamed the attack on "radical Communist terrorists who seek to destroy capitalism in this country and don't care how many people die in the process."

The National Police were sighted at the bombing site with search dogs, including some borrowed from the military, to hunt for corpses or survivors of the terrorist blast.

I think he meant that 20t of explosives won't fit into many trucks. And I do tend to think that Praetonian companies have more sophisticated logistics than "well just hire some random bloke off the street and unload whatever happens to turn up; it'll all work out in the end" but I'll RP you blowing up some rubbishy incompetent business like a processed fish factory or whatever.

Well, I did lower it down, but 20 tons is well within the capacity of trailers from twenty feet on up. Independent truckers are also fairly common, at least within the States. Doesn't matter to me what gets blown up though.

A non-descript metalwork shop in New Masada

The atmosphere was harsh to the ear as the whine of metal on metal resounded throughout the building. Sparks danced through the air while dust and heat combined to make breathing a tad uncomfortable. Located in one of the Special Economic Zones, the building and company were a front for the Prole Platoon, one of many, set up with a large influx of foreign money sometime ago.

These fronts had a grim irony about them. As the Prole Platoon members liked to joke with each, the capitalists were indeed selling the very rope with which they would be hanged. This particular metalwork shop did business with Praetonian and Clandonian elements in the Special Economic Zones. Its profits however were used not for the typical capitalistic continual spread and increase in size, but rather, were used for the production of small rockets. One hundred twenty-two millimeters in diameter and just under three meters long, each rocket could carry a fifteen kilogram twenty kilometers, similar to the BM21 Grad missile that it was descended from.

This particular metalworking shop made the frames for all the missiles, which were then picked up and delivered...elsewhere... for installation of the warhead, typically Tovex, and the motor. These were also then delivered to other locations where they were hidden.

While the shop did not produce that many rockets, none had yet been fired in anger. That meant that the number available to launch was growing larger with each and every delivery...

Amil Breiris grunted as he shifted the car into park along the side of the road. Grabbing an old ex-military duffle bag from the rear seat of the sedan, he popped open the door and clambered out, locking and shutting the door behind him as he did. After a glance at the house to compulsively quadruple check the address, he began the walk to the train station.

The house belonged to a prominent Praetonian businessman who had set up shop in the Kahanistani Special Economic Zone. He, or at least his house as it was entirely probable that he would not be home when the bomb went off in another 75 minutes, had been targeted in phase two of the Prole Platoon's opening gambit Operation Red Letter Days. The pun had been considered quite appropriate.

The trunk of the sedan, and forty-six others like it targeting Praetonian and Clandonian businesses and homes, was filled with two hundred kilograms of ANFO, enough to cause serious damage. The ANFO had been gotten hold of through the simple means of slightly inaccurate inventories at mining operations, some Prole owned, others merely infiltrated. When one considered the sheer amount of high explosive used in mining, those slight inaccuracies allowed for a lot of product.

The cars themselves had been... re-appropriated... by the Prole Platoon from their original owners. All for the common good of course. The duffel bag was not stolen, but had been purchased with cash. It too carried an explosive payload, timed to detonate aboard the train during the time that most workers would be on the trains heading home, awhile after Amil had disembarked, "accidentally" leaving it behind of course.

And so Amil trodded on, dreaming of the better tomorrow that the bitter todays would eventually bring...

[OOC: If you're going to do these attacks, be explicit about all the preparation. Where and how are you recruiting people? How are you stealing explosives from mines without getting caught (and I dont know if you have ever worked in the mining industry or know anyone who has, but mines don't just "lose" nine and a half tonnes of explosive without noticing or bothering to inform anybody)? How are your foreign contacts supporting you (physically getting money to you)? In real life terrorist attacks are very rarely stopped once in progress, they're stopped in the planning phase, and by just handwaving the planning phase away and assuming very difficult tasks all worked perfectly completely undetected, I don't have any means of responding to this. It's the equivalent of Kstan RPing the police just turning up outside your hideouts and seizing everyone, without ever explaining how he knew they were there. In three days you've claimed to have detonated more than four times as much explosive as the IRA is estimated to have possessed in total on decomissioning, and that was imported from Libya where it was manufactured in proper factories...]

[OOC: Given that everyone from Doom to Zukariaa seems to assume that my people are stupid, let's just go along with it - I prefer to continue without major OOC roadblocks.]

IC: The SEZ's employed roughly thirty percent of Kahanistan's working population. Among these millions of people, many of them had read the Communist Party propaganda that Party activists had been disseminating in the SEZ's since they were established. Few, however, were motivated enough to distribute the leaflets themselves. A smaller number, fed up with their lot in life, decided on acts of terrorism - a tactic not advocated by the Communist Party of Kahanistan itself.

The typical Kahanistanian recruit was a young male, 15 to 25 years old, poorly to moderately educated, with strong communist and/or patriotic leanings, working in a menial job for which he was paid less than half of the national minimum wage of eight dollars an hour, and exposed to the harsh anti-slavery rhetoric of the Communist Party. However, there were exceptions; women and older men participated to a lesser extent, and some had college degrees and were still paid peanuts. Some were not Communists at all, but extreme nationalist xenophobes, or in very rare cases, religious fanatics.

Search and seizure laws prevented the raiding of homes without a proper warrant, so Kahanistanian police began setting up video cameras in the S.E.Z.'s, driving unmarked cars normally used to catch speeders on patrol, and even inserting undercover police in factories, often but not always asking permission of the factory owners. They intended to catch terrorists and form a suspect list, but were strictly prohibited from reporting someone to their superiors simply because of their views even if they advocated unionisation.

[OOC: If you're going to do these attacks, be explicit about all the preparation. Where and how are you recruiting people?

Cells recruiting the more enthusiastic members of the Communist party identified at meetings.

How are you stealing explosives from mines without getting caught (and I dont know if you have ever worked in the mining industry or know anyone who has, but mines don't just "lose" nine and a half tonnes of explosive without noticing or bothering to inform anybody)?

They do if the people in charge of making sure of the inventory are themselves terrorists or the company is owned by the terrorists.

How are your foreign contacts supporting you (physically getting money to you)?

Diamonds surgically inserted into the rectums of gerbils.

Ye good old fashioned money laundering.

In three days you've claimed to have detonated more than four times as much explosive as the IRA is estimated to have possessed in total on decomissioning, and that was imported from Libya where it was manufactured in proper factories...]

However, if you use a much easier to obtain explosive (two or three individuals obtained five thousand pounds of ANFO for the OKC bombing for instance), then it becomes more doable. Besides, that should be good for some tracing as well as pretty much the entirety of the stockpiled amount there.
