Operation Sword (MT, OPEN)

Drvarska
02-01-2008, 16:54
OOC: OK, this is a war scenario of Drvarska invading a small made up nation of Jingiskan. The rules are simple:

1. PLEASE only use modern technology that exists instead of weapons that basically kill everyone in 0.5 seconds. This also means that you can not use any prototype weaponry such as metal storm, blast proof armour (infantry) etc. This is set between 2000 - 2007.

2. No Nuclear (or tactical nukes), biological or chemical weapons at all, this will only make things difficult and stupid because nations do have millions of citizens and they are defencless and there are no shelters. Smoke screens are allowed and non-lethal gas.

3. There is a limit of 60,000 men you may enter in the theater and only a limit of 10,000 tanks. Note that these may change if we lack players, you may be able to send more troops.

4. PLEASE record after a battle or engagement a statistic at the end of your post of casualties, and be fair. (No battles like 10,000 v. 20,000 and you win with only 1 man injured from tripping over.)

5. Please in your first post make statistics of individual troops such as divisions, equipment and their training. In return I will make cool pics and map info of your men fighting on whatever side they are on.

Have fun!

FNN (Fennyli National News)

Today Drvarskan troops have launched a suprise invasion on the minor nation of Jingiskan. Already our troops of the 3rd Infantry "Waddi" division and the 1st Mechanized "Kurmark" division have already taken the city of Alagabat and taking up position. Many other Drvarskan divisions have assembled and are already preparing to invade other parts of Jingiskan. In total 105,000 Soldiers and 12,000 Tanks have assembled and are attacking Jingiskan that military has a total of 65,000 men and 2,000 Tanks, some have already died during the first few hours of the invasion.

President Vladimir Orlov has announced the reason for attacking Jingiskan.

"We have been threatened by Jingiskan terrorists who have been plotting mass explosions within our nation. Already we have suffered a number of 7,000 civillian casualties due to car bombings and the blowing up of a Drvarskan Governmental building. It is time to take action and stop the Jingiskani rebels once and for all."

During a firefight in the attack of Alagabat one citizen has caught on camera a frightful image of Drvarskan troops killing citizens who were suspected of being members of the Jingiskani Terrorist Organisation. The total of citizens murdered is estimated to be around 200.

The rest of the Jingiskan Expeditionary Force brought up its remaining troops and armour and attacked even harder and managed after heavy fighting to cut the stronghold off from the rest of the Jingiskan forces.
10,000 more troops were brought behind the lines to bring the total soldier strength to 60,000 men. These soldiers were from the newly given territory which had been named the Colstream Republic Of Britainia. Some of these soldiers were sent as replacements and the rest to guard the flank facing the west with a quarter of the armoured units. The main force was now ready to siege the fortress. 20 B52s flew over the fortress dropping high explosive. The Bombing caused much damage to the Jingiskan forces outside the fort but not the inside. The Highlander Class Cruiser CSC Highlander fired its 12 inch gun and struck the main turbine stopping all power to the fort. On the western flank, the Colstream Army now struck southwest to deny the Jingiskan Army the last remaining land route in the south. The attacks rght flank would pass Arabad and advance to the southeastern border. Then they would swing southwest to seal off the southeastern border and take Crenau. That would deny any foreign force any chance of reinforcing Jingiskan from a land route.

Losses:

Colstream Army:88
Jingiskan Army:126

To: Dvarska

I need to know if there is any threat from the southwest border. We are going to secure it anyway but we need more information. What is the strength of the forces facing us?

(Coming in: assume that air support is coming from a carrier 600 miles away, and that the people are landing viua air in your nation and going across the border. I know I have over 60k men, but if you look you will see that 45k are in logistics, so don't really count.)

The airships and aircraft began to come in to land near the border. There was still a small military presence in Drvarska from troops still cleaning up and maintaining the massive necropolis of those killed in the civil war.

The first division to arrive were the Flaming Guard: the men came in mostly by plane, with their vehicles carried aboard an Erika airship, along with those for the Black Guard and the Sentinels.
The divisions were rushed to the frontline, the border between Drvarska and this small nation. Foregoing the normal camoflauge were the command vehicles at the front, painted in pitch black with a flaming palm above three blood-red skulls. Normally entrusted with the most secretive of missions as well as populace control, their black dress uniforms were notorious across Alfegos. As was their skill in battle.

At the frontline, they assembled, waiting inside their IFVs ready for the attack once the forces had massed.
For the rest of the forces were coming in via massive ships, and would take at least 12 hours to get to the frontline. In this time, they would just have to watch the fireworks planned for them.

_________________________________________________

In Drvarska, an airship had been lost before in battle. This time, they would have to be careful. And very heavily armed.

Two consul-class airships floated over the frontline, looking for an attack. behind them floated a pair of Air-Destroyers, ready to destroy any aircraft detected within a 250km radius. They looked over the nation for the enemy, and when they saw even the smallest pocket of resistance, they began to pelt them with missiles.

Just waiting for an attack in retaliation.

Stronghold

The Jigniskani troops ran to their battlestations and manned the coastal artillery pieces. The shelling from the Colstream Navy scared most of the men and knocked out a lot of the fort, suffering a few casualties and cut off of supplies they opened fire with the remaining D-30s onto the Colstream vessels and at the landing craft. The stronghold is a natural defence location with cliffs and caves that have artillery bunkers. The fort is surrounded by a thick concrete wall and a series of towers armed with Jingiskani RPK-74 and some 50 cal. machine guns.

Casualties:
167 Dead
343 Wounded

OOC: On the South West Border there is a Division spread out defending it along with various coastal artillery emplacements and minor strongholds.

============

OOC: Ok Alfegos this is acceptable. But please remember if we have more players there would not be enough room to place soliders and we will end up having 1 soldier every square meter. Also please define these air destroyers and airships, are they just large planes? Im trying to keep this in time zone.

IC:

The retreating 1st Jingiskani Infantry Division spotted the Alfegos aircrafts and immediatly went into cover, without knowing what they are capable of they scattered into the dessert under the cover of rocks or whatever they could find. The road now consisted of a convoy of trucks that are scattering.

===========

Alagabat

The State of New York embassy was another target for the Drvarskan troops, a battalion of Infantry moved into positions around the embassy surrounding it. Along came the support of BMP-2s and a couple T-90s. They did not fire upon them yet, a soldier came forward to the embassy door.

"To the State of New York troops from the Drvarskan Army, we demand that you lay down your arms and surrender, if not doing so we will use force upon you." he said.

I and II Corps were advancing rapidly on the city, armour and mechanised Legions to the fore. III Corps held the flank, fanned out to the north, protecting I Corps' march. IV Corps was the Army Reserve, advancing steadily behind I and II Corps.

The first Legion in the vanguard of the advance was the 'West African' armoured Legion - its T-95s protected by BMP-3 mounted infantry, all guarded from air attack by Tunguska-M weapons systems.

Behind the 3rd Legion's tanks and AIFVs came its self-propelled guns, and its single battery of Godhammers. The city would be reached, and defended...

OOC: Yep, desert gear mostly.

As the advance continued on the capital, III Corps found itself engaged in a series of skirmishes with Colstream troops. These skirmishes rapidly developed into a full-blown battle, with the troops of the 'Kroandan' paratroop division distinguishing themselves at tank-hunting with their shoulder-launched AT weapons.

New orders were made, and passed on, and soon units of the IV Corps' Mechanised Legion were joining the fight, adding their tanks, AIFVs, support weapons, and infantry to the bloody battle.

Yet all the while the march to the capital went on, and reconnaissance units from the West African were now feeling their way into the city...

Arabad:

The first battalions of the West African had arrived in the city, and were busy liasing with their Jingskian allies; preparing the way for the arrival of the rest of I and II Corps. I Corps was tasked with defending the city itself, while II Corps was to create a screen around the northern half of the city.

Colstream-Atopian Clash:

With new intelligence demonstrating that III Corps had more tanks than the entire Colstream contingent - over 1,600 up-armoured T-95s now that the two Mechanised Legion's Armoured Brigades had arrived - a bold new plan had been set in motion.

With the maxim of 'Forwards, always forwards' in mind, the Atopian commanders had massed their Armoured Legion's tanks in one spot. Covered by the 'Kroandan' paratroopers, the Mechanised legions withdrew and joined with the Armoured Legion. Then, just an hour after the apparent withdrawal of the Corps, the armour advanced.

Over 1,600 T-95s roared and bounced across the desert towards the Colstream units. They were accompanied by some 10,000 combat troops (each 8-strong squad being carried in one of 1,250 BMP-3 AIFVs), and all were protected by the advance of 750 Tunguska-M air defence platforms - which could easily bring their 30mm cannon to bear in the ground fire role.

Ahead of the massed tank assault rolled a stupendous bombardment as III and IV Corp's artillery joined in the engagement en masse. Godhammers fired rocket-assissted cluster bomblet shells 12 miles into the Colstream forces. Self-propelled howitzers and mortars barked out salvo after salvo, turning the Colstream front line into a rolling inferno of fire and shrapnel that tore through man and machine alike - and behind it came the unstoppable advance of the Atopian armour...

The Wolven Navy had been fully mobilised following the invasion of Jigniskan. Whilst the Foreign Legion had been fully committed to the defense, the Emperor decided that more troops were needed. Thus, fresh from their refitting, the SS had been loaded onto transport ships and sent hot on the heels of the Legion.

Now the Navy neared the south-west coast of Jigniskan, well away from any invading troops, and commanders readied their units for deployment. Fighters, interceptors and ASW were already in the air to protect the navy.

The Colstream Army brought ashore more tanks from the Colstream Mainland and other fronts Plus 20,000 Infantry Soldiers. 3 more Aircraft Carriers and 2 Fleets numbering 8 Cruisers, 6 Battleships and 9 Destroyers. This increased the Colstream Army Strength in the region to 70,000 men and 1200 Tanks of many different types. Also the aircraft complement went from 200 to 1000 fighters and 100 B52s were also brought onto bases in Drvarska.

23 Tomahawk missiles were fired towards the tanks to slow them down and some reinforcements were brought up being 800 Tanks made up of T-90s, T-80s, T-72s, T-64s, MS1 Panthers and Type 85s. Also 10,000 men was brought up to bring frontline strength from 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers. 10,000 more was on the way from the new Colstream Colony Britainia.

30 An-255 Mirya Cosssack Super-Heavy Strategic Transports brought up mines and began to drop them along the front line on every road and field. Within hours a huge minefield all along the front and 5 miles deep appeared. It had totally secured the front line for now. Also 40 Colstream Air Force A-10 Thunderbolts were attacking the Tanks as they advanced trying to reduce and determine the strength and give a constant update on the tanks positions for the B52s coming in from Drvarska.

The Colstream Air Fleet Arm Super Etenards turned their attention to the Atopianan Landing Fleet. 40 of them from the aircraft carrier CAC Dauntless armed with 2 Exocet Missiles come within 10 miles of the fleet before locking on to one of the ships moored off their landing zone. Both Exocets from each plane was lauched. The Exocets rocketed towards the Atopianan Fleet....

The 9th Army started to land on the coast near Alagabat, with the 5th Marines, and the 2nd Naval Air Attack Wing (F-35B's), giving air support. It would not be long until they met the enemy. They started to move off the beach, and inland, and they prepared for any opposition.

State of New York Marine Commander's response to the Drvarskan Army's demand:
Under international law the Republic of The State of New York's embassy is our legal territory and we have the right to defend it. We are willing to let you pass near our embassy if you don't point weapons at it.

At the same time a transmission was received at State of New York battle fleet from the Marine Commander at the embassy:
We have been surrounded by a battalion of Infantry of the Drvarskan Army. We want the NYS Buffalo to be on stand by to provide fire support if necessary and the NYS Orange be ready to evacuate the embassy.

Stronghold

With the Antopianas delaying the Colstream advance gave the Jingiskani troops time to repair their defences from the bombardments. A new battery opened fire onto one of the destroyers of the Colstream Navy, they watch as the shells landed onto its position...

Another battery was moved to the rear where it opened fire onto advancing armour and infantry.

The 1st regiment, the Flaming Guard, began to advance towards the stronghold. They were using an infamous tactic: the Foreboding Cloud tactic. In front of the advance of IFVs and MGSs, a massive cloud of gas 200m wide, 600m high and 8km long drifted on the favourable winds towards the direction of advance. This cloud of white-grey smoke was a mixture of white-phospourous/solid oil smoke from generation units and of Yellow-band stun gas: a potent mix of CR gas, CN gas, CS gas and BZ, deployed from artillery munitions and from large cylinders, thrown over by batteries of mobile Livens Projectors.

So far, they had advanced 2.5km from the frontline, and encountered minimal resistance. They were on their way to the enemy stronghold marked on the theatre map, and were ready to use their extremely high level of training and experience to take the stronghold.

OOC: Sorry I have mentioned in the first post that there can be no use of toxic gas, only gas to produce smoke screens or there can be small arms gas launchers that can be designated fire onto enemy positions, but no use of large artillery gas barrages or huge clouds. You have to imagine there are local civillians in the area working on farms etc. They have no gas masks.

Armoured Advance, III Corps, Northern Front:

The Colstream cruise missiles had essentially been wasted. The Corps-level advance barely noticed the few that got through the barrage of SAM and AAA fire that was thrown against the 23 Tomahawks; casualties from the ten or so that did impact on the advance were limited by the precision nature of the Tomahawks. One unlucky tank crew were obliterated by a direct hit from a Tomahawk which sent the engine block of their T-95 into a BMP-3 which was following - it was this incident, killing 10 and wounding two, which produced the most casualties.

Fortunately for the Legion, the Colstream A-10s simply could not penetrate the air defence net of SAM, AAA, and handheld rocketry that was put up. Only one unit took hits from an A-10 pilot who came in so low that the antenna of a BMP-3 was cut half-way up - and he was chased away from the burning wrecks of two BMPs and a T-95 by the fire of six Tunguska-Ms and eight Igla MANPADs from nearby dismount infantry...

The rest of the Corps advanced rapidly, contemptuous of their opponent's inferior armoured vehicles and comparatively poor training. The Legionnaires knew that their T-95s, uparmoured and upgraded as they were, outmatched even the Colstream T-90s - and compared to the T-65s and Type-85s, the Legion's tank units were as gods. Tankers observed through their computer-assisted sight units as Colstream tanks, far fewer in number than they, desperately tried to stem their advance.

Some units, of course, took significant losses. 4th Company of 2/2 Brigade, 9th Legion, lost six of its 12 T-95s to a well-executed Colstream T-90 ambush; but such incidents merely drove the remainder of the Corps on, unstoppably.

As the mines began to drop, the Legionnaires merely laughed. Their Corps' artillery batteries switched fire, and began to blast pathways for the vehicles as combat engineer units came up to start clearing other lanes by hand and by clearance vehicle.

At Command, the decision was taken to throw the 12th Armoured Legion into the advance alongside the 8th Mechanised, 9th Armoured, and 11th Mechanised. Now the advance comprised some 2,500 T-95s and 1,000 Tunguska-Ms... in addition to a futher brigade of mechanised infantry.

The Colstream advance would be blunted by the sheer weight of tanks and artillery, while the Atopian rear and flanks were protected by the two Paratroop Legions, now spread out and dug in with a plethora of shoulder-launched weaponry to prevent any enemy advance...

With the only naval attack being launched on the smaller Atopian flotilla on the other side of the country, the SS units were cleared to land in the south-west under the watchful eyes of the Skgorrian Navy and Naval Air Arm. Many Jigniskani civillians stood and watched in surprise as 6 divisions of troops disembarked and swarmed onto the beach like angry ants, forming an extremely large defensive perimeter. SS commanders began to plan what their next move would be...

OOC: The gases in it non-toxic, if you look them up: its a mix of tear gases and an incapacitating agent, so does not constitute toxic gas.
Now if I got out my red band, blue band or green band gases, or anything with a star, that would be lethal. Just go by the rule that a yellow band on my chemical weapons means it is (relativly) harmless. It just means that everything the troops run into will be too busy coughing andtemporarily unable to see, so can't fight.

OOC: I really hate doing this, but I'm going to call bullshit on the following sections of Colstream's post:

Another 1000 tanks straight from the factories and the old theatres of war were brought ashore and the Infantry augmented by another 41,000 more troops supported by experience of fighting constantly in the 3 civil wars Colstream had gone through.

Wait, so these tanks which are straight off the factories in Colstream have made the trip by sea in under two days? Pardon? And these new divisions - they were organised, transported to the embarkation point, embarked, shipped, landed, re-organised themselves, and moved out in battle order in the same time?

Meanwhile an infantry assualt from the sea had breached the fort after heavy barrage fire from off shore.

That's a godmod, plain and simple - you don't call other people's damage I'm afraid.

500,000 new soldiers had already finished training

When did they start? Last week? Last year? It takes a minimum of six months to produce a new soldier, unless you mean 'were given a gun and told which bit made it go bang' when you talk about training.

Also new naval units were being laid plus more aircraft mainly Fighters and Fighter Bombers were also coming out of the workshops and the new MS2 Panther MBT which weighs 63,000kgs and armed with an 125mm Gun and the armour made with Chobham/ Steel. These were expected by be in theatre in 1 day with an order of 4000 being made. These were to phase out the T-64s and T-72s in the Colstream Army and make them a force like Atopianas in light of the recent reverses.

Gah! This bit is just complete bollocks. It takes you ONE DAY to design, prototype, refine, and mass-produce a whole new type tank AND then ship FOUR THOUSAND of them to another country and get it to a warzone?! And the same with fighters and fighter bombers!? You're looking at a period of months for that!

And, I might add, there's a limit of 60K of troops and 10K tanks. Skgorria and I can bring in extra reinforcements because there's no-one else fighting for Jingskian yet, but you lot can't as far as I understand the rules of this RP.

Of course, if you want I can bring every last damn soldier I have, which given the Hundred Million Soldier policy is, at last count, 50 million men in the Atopian Army alone. Not to mention the 25 million strong navy, the 20 million strong air force, and the 5 million strong space force. So let's play nice, and have you re-write that post, OK? :)

OOC: I got a bit carried away. Please accept my Apologies. By the way those 4000 Tanks were coming off the production line at 50 a time and all was not being shipped. Only 80 were availiable which i forgot to mention in the now deleted post. Also our Army is being modernised so the tank part is ok but i didn't tell you what numbers had arrived. Sorry about that. :headbang:

The Colstream Army, in light of the setbacks decided to disengage completely and start to evacuate. The Colstream Military started to withdraw all land forces from the region as the Colstream Government decided that the ground campaign was a total failure. The Colstream Army started to pull back on all fronts sowing mines and blowing up roads to delay the advance. No more soldiers were going to die now as opinion at home had led to this decision taking place.
The Beachead was a hive of activity as soldiers were loaded back onto their transport ships. The Colstream Air Force was withdrawn their B52s back to the Colstream Mainland and the Land Based Fighters and Fighter Bombers had also headed home as well. The remaining 158,000 Soldiers and 700 tanks was being evacuated using as many vessels sent from home and and away out of the region. 4 Battleships had been sent with them to cover them on the journey home. The remaining 3 Aircraft Carriers, 6 Battleships, 4 Cruisers and 3 Destroyers was to leave the operational theatre.
Prioity was now only to help support the Alfegos Forces which was numerically superior to the Colstream Forces. The Republic Of Colstream was still in the war. By withdrawing the ground forces, their numbers would be unchanged by the Aircraft Carriers and the 2 Naval Fleets.

To Alfegos and Drvarska.

Pressure at home has forced this decision. We are out of the war. We have lost many soldiers and Tanks. These will be replaced but not in time to maintain another Campaign.

The Colstream Army had totally evacuated. The last hours were punctuated by several loud bangs as shell dropped dangerously close to the beaches from the Battleships and Cruisers firing to screen the last units. The Colstream war effort had ended. The remaining naval units left the region firing their armaments as they sailed. The Republic Of Colstream Government would now be careful where to send its forces and try to limit the campaigns it enters.

I will post tomorrow a news report with photos which will give you an idea of whats going on everywhere. By then if new events change I will alter it before I post.

Alfegos, I understand that this is non-lethal gas. I will allow this huge screen for now but in future limit it to small arms fire. Instead of producing it beforehand just fire it into the enemy from a grenade launcher such as the riot guns police have that fire off tear gas.

The ongoing conflict in Jingiskan is ever growing into a larger war bringing in new contries across the world to support either side. Today more reports come in of Drvarskans killing citizens in Alagabat and in villages recently captured. So far the murdered civillians count has reached 897. Drvarskans still claim that these civillians are suspected terrorists and must be executed or inprisoned before more terrorist attacks occur in Drvarska.

So far the Drvarskan army has recieved the help from its allied country Alfegos and along with a friendly country of Calizorinstan. Recent efforts by another helping nation of Colstream tried to breach the Jingiskani homeland by attacking their stronghold. After a desperate battle they withdrew once Atopianan forces arrived. Frontline Command
"Sir, we have enemies sighted in the distance!"

The gascloud appeared to have strated passing oer an enemy position.

"Correct: I want to have 1st and 2nd Batallion to bag them up, I want 3rd and 4th batallion to take the head of the advance to watch out for more enemy personnel, and I want 5th batallion to stay 1km behind as a tactical reserve."

"Alright"

1st Batallion
A and B Coy had found a large village that the gascloud had passed over. After securing the perimeter, they performed a house-to-house sweep, finding only citizens in pain with their gas-affected eyes. The lieutenant of A coy ran over to the village store, and with his section relieved it of all its milk. He then distributed it to the houses around. Milk he kenw would remove the effects of the lacrimatory gases. It was the psycadelic agents he was more worried about. He ran around giving advice to the citizens in the village, that within 24 hours they would suffer from the effects of BZ, and would experience hallucinations and very odd effects for between 12 and 24 hours, and that they should keep themselves in a safe area where they could look after themselves.

They then rolled out, leaving the village chief with a good-sized wad of money as compensation for their injuries, and with contact details for the Alfegos Country Relations Head.

3rd Batallion

On the coastal flank of their advance, 3rd batallion had come across a town where the residents and the Jingistani army weren't happy to see them. The captain began to yell across the communications circuits, directing the men to different sectors of the town.

"A company, get your sorry arses down onto the seafront and work in. B coy, take the high street. C coy, drive straight through to the other side of the town and make sure they don't get re-enforcements. D and E, await my command."

There was an explosion in the distance as a guerilla took out one of the IFVs.

Alfegos, the photo you request is quite hard to do with a massive smoke cloud but I can do pics of Jingiskani soldiers running away or your soldiers helping civillians, if it is ok with you your men will be wearing a normal MARPAT camoflage. I assume you have armoured vehicles such as M113 or M1A1 Tanks etc.

IC:

The Jingiskani troops were used to foggy days but never before have they witnessed a gas attack before. Some of them do not even know if such a thing was possible.

After some started coughing hard and others could not see few soldiers dropped their weapons and began to flee while others sat deep behind rocks and brought out napkins and clothes to cover their face. After a few minutes the wind changed to their favour and the gas started to dissolve and float away. Soldiers took a while to regain their vision while others who were not effected helped them.

Soldiers got up again and loaded their rifles and attached bayonets to the end of their M-16s. Some loaded up LAW launchers to stop the armour.

Inland, they had started to detect troop movement in the distance. The captain lodged in a call with the artillery slowly arriving behind them.
"Get your rockets ready: we've got an estimated 20 000 strong infantry division in the area, prepping for battle. And against a batallion of 600 men, I think you can guess the shit is about to fly. Get the mortars loaded with more gas shells: the screen is dispersing."

He then flicked channels again. To the main command hub 8km behind him.

"We need our re-enforcements, and we need them ASAP. We're elite, yes, but we don't want to take on 20 000 odd infantry men on our own. See if you can get in the Meteor here, along with the rest of our expiditionary force."

The IFVs nearby had begun firing up, and heard screams and explosions around him. With a few commands across the network, he saw the troops leave their IFVs and take cover in the area, while the 25mm Autocannons raked the enemy. They would hopefully be able to hold the enemy off for a while, until the re-enforcements came.

AAS Meteor

"Sir, we've got some hostile targets finally."
"Their type?"
"Infantry."

The pilot hit the ignition button as he pulled the engine throttle up to full power. He then turned his head around to the missile system controller.

"Arm the Screamers and the Longbow IV missiles, and get ready to receive target information on the battle network. Engineers, get to your stations, and ghet ready to perform damage control routines."

The airship roared acorss the skies, accelerating slowly with the wind behind it, and the missile bay doors wide open. Once it got within range in a couple of minutes, it would unleash hell on those below.

_________________________________________

Line 2 - Logistics and Artillery Support

The major looked on the firing screen of his vehicle: an LY300 Manticore. Above him, the missiles began to roar out of the two pods, and in the distance began to reak havoc. His was armed with Screamer missiles: these were armed with an incendiary warhead and a horrible siren. In a force just hit by a gas cloud, these would be effective. Psych ops was always a favourite tactic of his.

120 metres away, hidden amongst a grove of trees, an M1A3 Slinger had begun to fire away, a truck nearby filled with shells marked with a single yellow band or a pair of grey bands. They had been given orders to saturate hotspot areas of enemy spotted by an Aero-Patrolcraft now entering the area with these shells, to help keep up the damage. Mixed in were HE shells, to cause physical damage as well. There was a siren call inside his vehicle as it indicated that Pod 1 was empty. He nodded to the two gunners outside, and they began to fit in more missiles as the second pod opened up.

_________________________________________________________

Line 3 - Force Pooling Area

"Time to move out lads!"

The major-general sat atop his M1A4 Warhound Command Vehicle as it roared away. Behind him followed his force: a Light Armoured Division. Mixed in amongst the light tanks were heavier beasts like his own, who would deliver the main shock of the attack. The forces had at least a plan.

Behind them came another Mechanised Regiment to support the Flaming Guard: The Sentinels. They would hopefully hold the frontline while the armour carried out their devestating attack.

____________________________________________________________

Line 4 - The Command Line

Inside the mobile operations centre, the Field Marshall suveyed the computer screen: a battle plan for dealing with the infantry. While three regiments of light armour attacked in a pincer movement the enemy, the mechanised infantry would hold a stationary line, the elite Flaming Guard doing their job as well as they could with The Sentinels. Then, with the enemy pounded by artillery and airship fire, the main battle tanks would roll in and literally steamroll the enemy positions. The enemy would find themselves cut off by the light armour circling behind them. An excellent plan.

North-Eastern Jingiskan

After the gas attack Jingiskani troops returned to their positions and received some mortar fire, few were killed but with the cover of sand dunes and dug outs they were protected. Behind the lines some old M224 Mortars and 5 155mm FH-70 field guns. Loading up HE rounds they began a barrage onto the Alfegan Battalion. Two battalions of Jingiskani soldiers prepared to charge once the barrage was over.

The Jingiskani Division picked up the airship on its radar and bagan to prepare AAA guns. They had 2 Shilkas and 10 ZU-23s mounted onto trucks in the sector. Once the Airship was in range they began to fire a volley of AP & HE rounds into the fusalage of the airship.

The men had all taken to heavy cover and stayed still as mortar rounds began to hit all around. They knew an artillery bombardment was always followed by a mad charge. They however would be waiting. While the shells occasionally hit a person or two, they didn't get the bunched up people like they would have.

"Incoming fire. Give them something in return!"

The rounds flying up at the airship failed to do anything to the important sections of the airship: the main gondolas were all heavily armoured, and any hits from below onto the gas cells did not result in dangerous leaks, for the gas in the cells was lighter than air, so did not sink through the holes.
No missiles had been fired yet, so so far, so good.

What the enemy had done though was opened themselves up to receive a bombardment on their AA platforms: a pair of Crossbow IV missiles designated to each. As the missiles dropped and then fired off their engines, they locked onto the marked units by their GPS co-ordinates, and came hurtling out the sky towards them.

Damage Sustained: Minimal

The armour had now split up into three groups: the MBTs were still travelling in a straght line towards the enemy, while the two groups of LBTs had split off to the side to encircle the enemy.
Timing was essential: they wanted to arrive just as the artillery bombardment finished.

Jingskian, Imperial Foreign Legion, Northern Army Command HQ:

"General! Colstream forces are in full flight! We can't catch them - they're running hard for their landing ships and we need air power to hit them!"
"By the wolf... I didn't think our attack was that powerful! Haha! Truly He shines on us! Right, then, my children, let's see what we can do now. What're the final casualty figures from the armoured advance?"
"Well, sir, we count 245 dead, and 76 missing. There's 492 wounded, and we've lost 56 BMPs, 34 T-95s, four Tunguskas, two or three of our big guns, and about 67 vehicles have been taken back to our engineering-repair units. Frankly, sir, these losses are incredibly small; just 3% of our total."
"Excellent. Very well then. Prosecute the advance to Quaran. I want III Corps' paratroopers to hold Quaran, anchoring our left, while IV Corps' paras link up with the stronghold. The armour moves north on the Alfegans. Crush them beneath our tracks, gentlemen - they may use gas, but we are the Legion... and we have NBC kit."

The command staff laughed at their General's dry wit, and bent to their tasks...

III Corps, Northern Army, 7 'Kroandan' Airborne Legion:

The Kroandan commander had sent out his probing forces; their scout elements, lightly mounted in 4x4s and heavily equipped with MANPADs and the latest anti-tank launchers, had reached the outskirts of Quaran within four hours of his order.

Next, his task was to seize and hold. For that task, he had some 5,000 paratroopers with enough air defence equipment to turn Quaran into a formidable bulwark against any assault. His roving mobile groups - small, platoon sized units in armed 4x4s - could scout with their UAVs and threaten any armoured advance with their rockets. Not every threat to an MBT toted a 125mm main gun, after all...

A reconnaissance vehicle entering Quaran

Northern Army, IV Corps, 9 Airborne Legion:

Like her counterpart in III corps, the officer commanding 9 F(A)L had been irritated to have her paratroops used as a defensive echelon, but, as a highly trained and experienced officer, she applied herself to her task. The Stronghold had been under serious and sustained assault for almost a week now, and, although the advance of Northern Army's armour and mechanised units had pushed the Colstreamers away, they still needed to be ready to fight their way through to the Jingskian position.

Heavily equipped with 9K38 Igla MANPADs and Panzerfaust-3 IK 300 anti-tank rockets, not to mention her one brigade - jokingly referred to as the 'armoured brigade' - equipped with the BMD-4 and 2S25 Sprut-S tank-hunter (whose 125mm main gun posed a significant threat to tanks and infantry alike). This brigade had been placed at the front of her advance, with the two lighter brigades on her flanks. They were just three hours' drive away from the Stronghold's first line of defence, and had radioed ahead to warn the Jingskiani defenders of their arrival...

Northern Army, III and IV Corps, Armoured Advance:

The victory over the Colstream force had boosted the morale of the almost untouched four-Legion spearhead of the Northern Army, and they were pushing forwards towards the Alfegan flank as fast as they could go. Confident in the ability of their air-defence systems to protect them from any 'vertical threat', and in their training and hard-won battle skills to give them the edge over the Alfegans, who had, after all, been attacking a heavily defended fortified zone for some days now...

Western Army HQ, Arabad:

Orders are as follows: 4 'Yanitarian' will hold and fortify Arabad. II Corps will advance to the west while I Corps advances north and west. OOC: Sorry Alfegos, no gas period. It has now been included with the original rule that only smoke grenades are acceptable. Just a reminder to everyone that there will be NO NBC warfare.

Greal - You are most welcome to join the thread and help the Jingiskani troops.

Atopiana - Great pictures and I appeciate you altering the map for your troops. In return I will make some more cool screenshots of your troops in action. Its good to see a real good miltary strategist versus Alfegos, he completly took over half of Drvarska containing well armed rebels during the Civil war and he sure is a tough one to face. Good luck to both of you.

IC:

The barrage ceased and the two battalions equipped with an arrange of AK-47s, RPK-74s and old SLRs mostly attached with a bayonet charged towards the Alfegan Battalion. Expecting to receive casualties they sent another battalion to flank the Alfegans to the West. They moved cautiously as the Alfegans were busy firing upon the 1st and 2nd Battalions.

The airship did not seem to go down after receiving hits from 2 Shilkas and 10 ZU-23s. The Jingiskani Lieutenant scratched his head thinking "What the hell!?" and ordered the Flak cannon to be deployed. Quickly a old ex-German military 88 Flak cannon was deployed and armed with a heavy HE round, it aimed towards the airship and fired and waited for the round to hit the airship. They reloaded another round in case the airship was still alive. The Shilkas still remained to fire upon the airship but half the ZU-23s were destroyed.

At Arabad the Jingiskani Navy deployed their Capital ship the JSS "Warrior" a Arleigh Burke class destroyer and two Halifax class frigates the JSS "Invincible" and the JSS "Katenge". They set sail towards the AAS "Meteor".

With the Colstream forces retreating the Jingiskani troops were releived. The entrance door to the fort opened and many cheerful and scruffy looking Jingiskani men came out to greet the soldiers. All the men were too busy fighting and spent a week not washing, shaving and hardly sleeping.

Usually their uniforms were done up and ment to be clean and mint but many men came out covered in sand, mud and sometimes blood.

"Garibaldi calling Masterful, over."
"Masterful, receiving Garibaldi, go ahead, over."
"Kingfisher has arrived, negative Drumhead, over."
"Well done Garibaldi. Initiate operation Winterbreeze, out."
"Acknowledged. Garibaldi out."

Lieutenant-General Hana Yawler smiled as she lowered the microphone on her HQ's primary radio. Her Legion had accomplished the day's principle objective six hours ahead of schedule and with no enemy contacts. Now all that remained was to complete the re-inforcement of the Jingskiani troops, add to their air defence system, and emplace her heavier equipment.

"Right," she began, "tell Brigadier Marke to get his vehicles and troops scouting the perimeter. I want a fire brigade battalion-plus battlegroup of tank-destroyers and mech inf to be a mobile reserve in case the Alfegans get through. They won't... because you two Brigadiers will have your soldiers dug in reinforcing the Jingskianis. I want a good dispersal of '300s and Iglas out there. Our Legion reserve will be a battalion from each brigade, including Marke's fire brigade reserve. They'll stay in the Stronghold proper, defending that and will sortie if necessary. Questions?"
"Yes Ma'am. What happened to the SA-17s we were promised from Corps?"
"They're on their way. When they get here, their first task is to kick the shit out of that fucking airship thing. They're expected any time now, with an escort from Corps reserve."

"No, she won't make it in time. We need the rest of our forces in ASAP. Get an airstrike in there while we try something. Where are our forces?"

Central Frontline

"Come on guys! The fat lady is just about to sing!"

The flaming guard personnel continued firing at the incoming men, charging across the dunes. While the enemy outnumbered them, they were disadvantaged in the fact they were running straight into very effective fire: the men had changed now from ripple fire along the line to the military rapid-deliberate fire rate of a round every 3 seconds on semi-automatic, aiming well.
Since they were also well equipped, being one of the most trained regiments in the military, a great deal of fire was also coming from more interesting crew-based weapons at incoming enemy targets: some sections had crew-manned 20mm autocannons blasting away in their familiar dum-dum-dum-dum-dum tone, ripping holes in any armour that they hit and decimating squads as the fire came over them.
Any enemy armour in range was also presenting itself to be shot at by the AAT-87: while not the most sophistcated missile launcher on the planet, the missiles fired were cheap as dirt, effective as a Javelin, and as well guided onto their targets by squad-based designator units.

If the enemy didn't see sense, a massacre would occur.

Casualties:
- 25 men KIA
- 9 men WIA
- 1 IFV damaged
- 1 AA platform destroyed

Aboard the AAS Meteor

"Flak cannon! Take it down now!"

They were too late in letting off a pair of Crossbow IV missiles: the shell hit the underside and exploded. While the gondolas all around were unaffected by the shrapnel that impacted in their armoured flanks, the underside fabric was shredded. Internally, a few structural beams gave way.

However, firing at the underside was not the most effective way of taking it down: while they had lost some lift, the gas was still trying to travel upwards. But if they came up against many more shells, they would have to consider moving away.

While the onboard engineer team of three 2nd-class engineers and a 1st-class engineer ran to fix the damage, the crew began to regain their bearings after the shockwave.

"Get some more missiles on it before it fires another shell! And then take out the Atopians coming around, before they join in!"

__________________________________________________

The Light Armour

Around the sides of the warzone, the many scimitar tanks rushed along towards the enemy, with a few M1A3 AA platforms alongside them. On the west flank, they had infantry to deal with, so not too bad.

On the east flank, towards the shore, they had heavy enemy armour in the form of Atopians coming in. While the artillery had been redirected to fire Crossbow IV AT missiles and Screamer missiles to test the enemy armour and moral, as well as trying to pin them down, the light tanks advanced. Their guns, while only tiny in comparison to the MBT weapons, were still effective in taking out enemy armour. Or, if that failed, customised racks of missiles might be better: many tanks had 4 ATGMs on a wire rack targeted towards the nearest by sensing heat and IFF sensors.

They were only the foreguard: 15-30 minutes behind them were the mechanised infantry, and hopefully sweeping through the infantry to meet up in 3-5 hours were the armour and the rest of the mechanised infantry.

Losses:
78 men KIA
43 men WIA
34 Scimatar LBTs Destroyed
3 Scimatar LBs Damaged

"The Sidewinders" Regiment

Hiding in whatever cover they could find along the way came the Gecko FAVs of the Sidewinders. They were fast attack infantry, excelling in driving in, causing massive harassment to enemy logistics and armour, before driving off again into cover at high speed and disappearing into the distance.

Two batallions were coming along far inland, through enemy territory. Within an hour or so after driving across the desert dunes at 60 mph, they would be far behind enemy lines. Ready to make deadly attacks on the lightly-guarded enemy supply trains and dumps. Then they would leave into the sands, clouds of flames and a crippled enemy left behind.

Firing Position One, Stronghold Secondary Defence Line:

The SA-17 launchers, guarded by a unit of Tunguska-Ms and mechanised infantry from Corps reserve, halted. They'd used the drive towards the Stronghold to radar-lock the AAS Meteor with their 9S18M3 equipment, and now, as they slammed to a stop, they began to ripple-fire their SA-17s.

The battery of eight vehicles rippled off 32 Grizzly SAMs in under a minute, the rockets shunting their 1,587lb cargos at mach 4 towards the slowly rotating airship.

At the same time as the TELARs began to move again, their payloads expended, their four Tunguska-M escorts fired their eight SA-19s at the big Alfegan vessel. Unlike the Jingskiani weapons, these modern rockets moved at 900 m/s and brought massive kinetic energy to bear in addition to their 9kg warheads. Their crews knew that, compared to the big Grizzly rockets, the SA-19 was unlikely to do much damage to the airship... but any damage is good damage.

As the anti-aircraft detachment began to move out of range of retaliation, the paratroopers of 10 Legion began to fire their Iglas to cover the retreat. A hundred of the smaller Igla MANPADs leapt into the sky at mach 1.5, bringing a total of 260lbs of HMX explosive to bear on the Meteor.

"That should do it..." breathed one of the Legionnaires as he watched 140columns of smoke streak towards the Meteor, a target so large it couldn't be missed!

--------------------------

Northern Army, Armoured Advance:

"Fire!"

The command echoed through the artillery units' radios, and, as one, their guns roared. The 250mm Godhammer batteries punched their huge GSN-2 cluster shells downrange, each one capable of utterly destroying a grid square on a map. Some 256 Godhammers had opened the bombardment, their cluster shells plastering the Alfegan lines with a hellstorm of fire, shrapnel, and destruction. They were joined by 512 BM-30 rocket batteries, salvoing their 6,144 tubes with an even mix of thermobaric and anti-tank minelet warheads.

Each of the four attacking Legions joined in with their 128 'Msta' 155mm self-propelled weapons, adding another 512 pieces to the bombardment. Individual brigades joined in with their mechanised heavy mortar units, launching hundreds of 120mm HE and smoke bombs towards the forward positions of the Alfegans.

The shelling had begun two minutes after the first T-95 had been hit, and would last for two hours, creeping forwards to cover the advance.

Compared to the drizzle of AT rockets being eaten up by 8, 9, 11 and 12 Legions, the Foreign Legion's retaliatory bombardment was truly awesome in its weight, duration, and power...

----------------

Air Defence Units, Northern Army, Armoured Advance:

With the Jingskiani air force neutralised, the SA-17 and Tunguska-M units of the two-Corps advance were on high alert, their radars constantly sweeping the open desert skies as they advanced. Any air raid would have a very hard time getting past the 746 Tunguskas and 512 SA-17 TELARs - and then any raid that did get through the barrage of rockets and AAA would have to brave the Iglas of the infantry...

----------------

Northern Army, Armoured Advance, Front Line:

Just one minute had passed since the first T-95 had been immobilised by an AT rocket, and the tanks had begun to fire back as they sped forwards. 125mm depleted uranium SABOT shells sought out enemy tanks and armoured vehicles as BMP-3 and BMP-4 AIFVs added their AT-10 Stabbers and 30mm cannon to the anti-tank bombardment...

Then, suddenly, as one, they halted, and began to reverse, firing as they did so. The bombardment was on the way, and no-one wanted to get caught by short rounds. Nothing would survive the bombardment intact or with their senses undamaged, and the survivors would be easy meat for the Foreign Legionnaires...

Western Army, I Corps:

"What's that?"
"What's what?"
"That, in the distance, to the right. Looks like a dust cloud."
"So it is... pass me the binoculars."
"There y'go."
"Shit! Fast attack vehicles! Heh. They're trying to get round Northern Army's flank, I bet."

Leaping from the roof of his command BMD, Lieutenant Emale of the 1 Foreign (Airborne) Legion, the 'West African', grinned. Action, at last! This deployment had been uneventful for the soldiers of the 1st Legion, and now they had a chance to win themselves some medals.

"Wolf Nine to Rama, over."
"Rama to Wolf Nine, read you clear, over."
"Enemy light force, probable strength brigade or regiment size, heading south approx five miles north-east of my position, over."
"Engage at will, Wolf Nine, we will send support your way ASAP, over."
"Acknowleged, Rama, Wolf Nine out."

Turning to his sergeant, Emale grinned.

"The wolf falls on his prey. Mount up!"

Within minutes, the 1st Legion, some 5,000 men and women, entirely mounted in BMD-4s, supported by BTR-MD mortar vehicles and Sprut-SD tank-destroyers, were on the move. The light attack vehicles of the Sidewinders were in for a nasty shock; their path took them straight into the jaws of the Legion. To the Sidewinders' left was the III Corps and 8th Mechanised, to their right was I Corps and the 2nd Mechanised... and to their front the 1st.

Even at this long range, the engagement began as 32 of the 1st Legions' 2A36 artillery pieces set up, and began to fire, throwing their 152mm cluster shells into the Sidewinders. Soon they were joined by the rest of their brigade, barking out two shells every second. HE and smoke began to be mixed in with the cluster bomblets as they rained down onto the enemy regiment.

Western Army, II Corps:

Unhindered by the enemy, alerted by I Corps HQ, they advanced cautiously but rapidly, gaining their objectives as planned.

The area suddenly filled with activity as the SS troops prepared to move out. Fires were hurriedly put out as soldiers ran to their vehicles and engines roared to life.

The movement was a simple one, but one that would signal the Skgorrian's official entry into the conflict. 3 divisions, the 1st, 4th and 6th would move north to support the Jingiskani counter-attack at Algabat. Storm-General Beckenbauer judged the most dangerous threat to be the attack launched by the Alfegan forces, including their ridiculous airships, and as such ordered the 2nd, 3rd and 5th SS divisions to march to the north-east to reinforce their Atopian comrades. The Charge of the Light Armoured Brigade

The heavy artillery shells began to land, decimating the areas they hit. Time to move.
The tanks hit a speed of 80 km/h as they roared along the solid ground they could find, firing off their small 30 mm L21 RARDEN cannons along wire barrages of missiles from their roof-racks. Now mobile, the enemy would have quite a problem in trying to get them. In the wake of a wall of LBTs came the IFVs of two regiments: a mix of LY219s of the Black Guard and Basalt tracked IFVs of the Glaciers.
The enemy though had given away their artillery positions: time for a little repsite as the vehicles charged towards possible death...

The last flight of the AAS Meteor

"Missile spam inbound! We've got no chance!"
"Ideas?"
"Get ready to bail out: I've got our course to plot."

The pilot quickly plotted the path of the airship, and jammed the engines on maximum thrust. As missiles began to come into sight, the men bailed out as a barrage of 1240 Longbow IV Cluster missiles, 1710 Crossbow IV AT missiles, 220 Screamer missiles and 9 Sledgehammer cruise missiles launched from the missile gondola, the noise bursting the men's eardrums, leaving only a loud ringing and the sight of the missiles streaking off on automatic designate towards the 3rd enemy army group.

The pilot bailed out as the missiles began to hit: multiple missiles ripping the entire length apart, showering tiny pieces of metal and torn, burning material acorss a wide area. The now-empty missile bay was ripped to pieces, as was most of the underside units of the airship. The missiles, while they ripped massive chunks from the airship, did not breach the centre as they exploded on contact with the exterior, leaving a very small core intact. But it was easily enough to have its entire lift reduced to only 80 tonnes from its original 7800 tonnes.

The entire thing still had strutural rigidity as it began to accelerate downwards towards the enemy army group it was above, 70 000 m^3 of hydrogen in its core starting to burn as the fires caught along the central ruptured fuel pipleines. It began to fragment as it reached 200m altitude, but then exploded mostly intact when it hit the ground below at terminal velocity.

The explosion was visible from the artillery lines, the shockwave felt by those 40km away. Surely it had done some damage in its last throes, though it left the crew dead in the blast as they clung onto fragile parachutes a short distance above.

The Sidewinder Attack

"Split into two groups: Batallions 1-2, engage the enemy to the left. Batallions 3-4, take the right. 5, stay back as a reserve and get the mortars to lay down a heavy barrage."

The small vehicles were only crewed by fireteams, yet still had firepower in exchange for a tiny target area and heat signature a missile would find difficult to lock onto.
Batallions one and two beagn to engage, the roof gunners firing a hails of 12.8mm rounds and barrages of 60mm mortar shells from roof weapons, with missiles also launched from recoil-less rifles. Missile pods on some vehicle began to loose off heat-seeking AAT-87VPF missiles.
Batallions 3 and 4 also beagn to swerve round to attackfrom the right, seeing mortar shells exploding in the distance as they came up towards the enemy.

100 miles from Arabad airport, in the air

A large fleet of transports were heading to the airport, they carried 10,000 Look Inc. troop[s, though they were small in numbers, They were well trained and more reinforcements were on their way. Look Inc. was in the war.

OOC2: Sorry for the short post.

North East Jingiskan

The soldiers below spotted the out of control airship firing missiles into all directions possible and immediatly took cover. The sand provided perfect cover under rocks and made it hard for missiles to explode properly as they would dig into the sand first and explode underneath. Although there were casualties.

The three battalions continued towards the Alfegan Battalion yelling and charging towards them now engaging into Close quaters combat. This was the Jingiskani specialty as they were more trained with the knife than the gun for their traditional reasons.

The Drvarskan Navy was unavailable and had to be used elsewhere. The Jingiskani Destroyer (Flag ship) armed its guided missiles and barrage weapons towards the advancing Alfegan army. The captain ordered immediatly to fire off 15 500kg HE Guided missiles and 50 rounds from its main gun. Slowly the barrage rained on top of the Alfegans.

OOC: I'll be making a proper post tomorrow morning, replete with map and everything. But first, I have a tiny bone to pick with Alfegos...

The Sidewinder Attack[/I]
(OOC Note: This is far behind lines, attacking your supply dumps and system)

No... it's not. Your regiment drove straight into the Western Army's right flank units and are currently heavily engaged by an airborne division which is entirely mounted in BMD-4 AIFVs and supported by tank-destroyers and light artillery, not to mention Corps-level assets, an armoured division, and a mech inf division.

Please re-write that section of the post, as my supply lines are happily intact for the moment at least. If you don't re-write it I will consider the Sidewinder regiment neutralised by the 1 F(A)L and act accordingly.

OOC: Alfegos, your TO&E on page 1 is significantly different to the TO&E you told me about. Not only that, but I count a total of 87,808 men - some 27,808 more than you're allowed to bring according to Drvarska. Care to explain?

TO&E, Page 1: 3x Mech Inf Regiments, 1x Mountaineer Rgt, 1x Engineer Rgt, 1x Fast Attack Rgt, 1x Penal Rgt, 1x Light Armour Rgt, 3x Rocket Rgts, 1x Artillery Rgt, 1x Airborne Rgt, 3x REMF units

TO&E, Page 5: 4x Light Armour Rgts, 2x Mech Inf Rgts, 2x Mech Inf Divisions (8+ Mech Inf Regiments!), 1x Heavy Armour Rgt, 1x Penal Rgt, 1x Fast Attack Rgt

The Light Armour has been increased from 1 to 4 regiments.
The Mech Inf had gone up from 3 to a minimum of 10 regiments!
The Mountaineers, Engineers, Artillery, Rocket, Airborne, and REMF Regiments have gone...
A Heavy Armour regiment has, however, appeared as if by magic!

The only thing that hasn'tchanged is that the Penal Regiment is still in the second TO&E, and I'm assuming that the Sidewinders have been destroyed seeing as you haven't mentioned them in your TO&E, nor have you altered your previous godmod* post.

If this keeps up I'm just going to ignore any further posts you make and remove your forces from the map. Clarify and re-write your posts if necessary please.

Northern Army GHQ:

With the Alfegans effectively surrounded, his flanks secure, and the tide of war clearly turning in favour of the Jingiskiani and allied forces, Lieutenant-General Hagard smiled for the first time in a week.

His forces had been driving and fighting hard, and victoriously, almost since they'd moved off their landing craft - and now it was time to deliver the final hammer blow to the Alfegans.

"Vadim?"
"Yessir?"
"III Corps will advance on the Alfegan heavy armoured regiment. Order IV Corps to advance on the Alfegan units to the right of the heavy armour, in conjunction with 10 Legion's assault from the Stronghold - they can deal with light armour easily enough, especially given IV Corp's aid. Try and raise the Jingiskian reinforced brigade and get them to help 10 Legion in the push from the Stronghold."
"Yes sir. However, that Alfegan airship-thing has apparently totally destroyed the Stronghold's dock area; we have preliminary reports that 10 Legion's 2nd Brigade has taken quite severe casualties."
"How severe?"
"About... 20%? Also, the airship had also launched a mass rocket barrage as it died, but its targeting systems must've been damaged - they almost all hit the wreckage of the Jingiskiani division that fought and died in the desert outside the Stronghold before we arrived."
"Almost all?"
"Some hit 10 Airborne; but casualties were not severe thanks to the fortifications. We estimate that they are still combat-capable, although currently under-strength."
"Then they shall fight. The Jingiskianis in the Stronghold can deal with any rescue ops."
"Sir."

Northern Army, III Corps:

A vicious armoured battle was in progress between the Alfegan heavy armoured regiment and the 1,700** T-95s of 9 Legion. The Atopian armour, with their bleeding-edge electronics and targeting systems, found the desert a prime killing ground. Their high speed and one-shot-one-kill ability on the move made their upgraded T-95s lethal - and their massive numerical advantage helped!

Meanwhile, 8 Legion's mechanised infantry began to sweep round the left flank of 9 Legion and bore down on their opponents under cover of another massive bombardment (from artillery now utilising shoot-and-scoot to bring down punishing firepower for the least risk)...

Northern Army, IV Corps and Stronghold:

The Alfegan regiments were trapped. Fully three divisions of the Legion fell upon the Alfegan regiments. Outnumbering their opponents three to one, and utilising the whole of the terrain (as opposed to their enemies, who appeared to be using roads and convoy formations in battle, giving the gunners on board the BMPs, T-95s, BDMs, and tank destroyers a wealth of easy targets), the Corps advanced en masse, with 10 Airborne exploding from the burning Stronghold with rage burning in their hearts and cries of revenge upon their lips. Such an advance, with almost 2,000 T-95s, several thousand AIFVs (strongly armed with 100mm tank-guns, autocannons, and AT rockets), and a liberal helping of shoulder-launched rockets, slammed into the Alfegan forces together with the Jingskiani reinforced 'Stronghold' brigade; an irresistible push on the Alfegans aimed at sweeping them onto the anvil of III Corps...

Western Army:

With the general advance of Northern Army, Western Army, under General Turgenev, seized its chance. The Alfegans were being split up and crushed by superior numbers, superior firepower, superior equipment, and the shock received by the Alfegans who were now facing elite and victorious troops. Now, with the SS Armoured Corps on his left flank, and the right guarded by swirling armoured combats, Turgenev could see only one option.

"Shock assault. The SS can deal with the infantry regiment and help roll up the Alfegan flank; we are going to smash the Alfegans head-on. Their reconnaissance regiment is destroyed as a fighting force; we will now do the same to their mechanised infantry units."
"At once, General."

Western Army, I Corps:

With the paratroopers of 1 Legion chasing the remnants of the Sidewinders towards Abad, the African Legions roared forwards towards the light armoured regiment that opposed them. Outnumbering their enemy 6 to 1, the Legionnaires grinned, anticipating a crushing victory. Their artillery was busy pulverising the enemy lines, rolling the barrage forwards as the Corps advanced.

T-95s began to engage the enemy light armour at extreme range, staying out of range of the smaller weapons and hitting the Alfegans with 125mm DU SABOT anti-tank rounds whilst the BMPs of 2 Legion whipped round the flank, engaging with ATRs, autocannon, and 100mm DU SABOT.

Western Army, II Corps:

As with I Corps, so with II. The IFVs of the Alfegan mechanised division were hopelessly outclassed by the main guns of the T-95s and under heavy artillery fire; most notably the 250mm minelet cluster shells of the Godhammer units. The Legion armour began to clear the way for 5 Legion to advance, their BMPs firing on the move, picking off undamaged IFVs and suppressing any Alfegan dismounts. The battle was surely almost won, the Alfegans could barely resist the Legion, and with the SS ready to hit their flank, they must collapse...

1st SS Armoured Corps, approaching Alfegosian forces

With the Atopian forces already engaging the enemy, the 1st SS Armoured Corps was placed in a prime position to do some serious damage to the Alfegosian forces. The Skgorrian commander saw that the Atopians appeared to be engaging enemy heavy armour, and he decided to press forward.

"'Zionbane' will press forward, we'll keep the 'Landstorm' and 'Atopiana' in reserve. Death to Zion!" Called out Storm-Colonel Servchenko over the radio. Somehow he didn't think the SS troops in the 5th would mind the officially-banned motto.

As a small-scale artillery bombardment from the self-propelled guns rained down on the Alfegosian front lines, the 2 tank regiments of the 5th SS division raced forward, the mechanised infantry regiment behind them. The tanks were the same upgraded T-95s used by the Atopians, and they would make every advantage of the perfect tank country of north-eastern Jingiskan. The infantry were mounted in their BMP-4s, and whilst the guns of the BMPs were significantly smaller than those of the T-95s, they would still cause significant damage.

In the absence of any communication from the Jingiskani forces, the Skgorrians began to bombard the Dvarskan forces with artillery in preparation for a massed attack.

Sorry to say that this is true and please clean up the posts. Not every war must be won Alfegos, the civil war you entered in Drvarska was a success because I was new and allowed you to take a city with 10,000 or so of your men against 120,000 and a heap of tanks. Sorry to admit that but I dont want that to happen again.

"Crap! How the hell did they break through!?" a Drvarskan officer said.

"I dont know, we are about to be surrounded by them though." his orderly replied.

"Alright, I want every available Division to help us now!"

"Right away sir I will make the call."

=====================

West of Zenica

The 1st Airborne "Eagle" Division was the most well trained and experienced Parachute Division in the Drvarskan Army. They were veterans of the war in the Alversian tribal conflict and in the Drvarskan Civil war. At an airfield they began to board old JU-52s which have been modernized and fitted with a new hardened steel plate and a stronger engine. Though outdated they were hard to pick up on radar due to the lack of electronics on board especially when its radio silent.

About 400 JU-52s lined up on the airfield each carrying 50 men, what lies ahead of them will be their largest airborne operation carried out by the Drvarskan Military. They now prepared and waited for the order to go. 20,000 Soldiers and their commander Colonel Brauer sat and prepared their equipment.

==============

West of Abad

The 1st Armoured Division and the 5th Infantry Division began to move out and assault Abad. The orders were for the 5th Infantry to attack from the North and allow the 1st Armoured to flank from the SW. With the lack of field trucks the soldiers mounted on top of the T-90s and headed towards their objective.

"Intact? Good luck," spat Beckenbauer as he beckoned for his radio. "Forward the armour!"

It was a simple attack, but one that would hopefully meet with success. Under cover of the rolling bombardment, the armour division would advance with the infantry advancing behind. Although it would be a slow advance, it was hoped this would punch a hole through the enemy ranks.

Alagabat

The Drvarskans were well dug in because the two divisions were stationed there during the entire conflict. With rows of trenches, dug-outs, mg nests, mines and shelters (bunkers) they were ready to face the fearsom armies advancing at them.

============

W of Zenica
Airfield

The loud roar of the JU-52s started up and the paratroopers boarded them. The sound was deafening as 400 JU-52s began to taxi and fly off the airfield.

http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ju522hb6.jpg
(A Drvarskan JU-52)

Ahead of the JU-52s a lone SU-37 was slowly flying over Alagabat and arming its main weapon, a series of bombs armed with chaff for radar interferrance. This was to be spread over the advancing army blocking out many radio and radar signals but only for a couple hours. Activating the weapon, the pilot awaited till he was over the enemy.

The 1st Airborne Division was to drop behind enemy lines and flank them from the rear slowing down and attempting stop the advance. The paratroopers sat nervously but ready to embark on Drvarska's largest airborne assault yet. The Division was cut into 4 regiments with 5,000 men each, each regiment had a landing zone where they will jump into. Indicated on the map below is a layout of the battle. (Feel free to switch around your divisions if I have put them in the wrong areas.).

http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=alagabatbattlezk4.jpg

The skies began to fill with hundreds of JU-52s, truely a terrifying sight to those below.

===============

The artillery began to fall onto the dug in Drvarskans, receiving few casualties they began to fire artillery back at the advancing army. Two batteries of D-30s opened up around Alagabat and rained down onto advancing men in the tropical terrain.

1 - Armoured DIVISION, not regiment. This means 4 Light armour batallions and a MBT batallion (sorry I sinned by saying Heavy, but I was tired).
2 - There are 80 000 men since I have actually cared to include LOGISTICS, ignored by most people. That is why my count is over 80 000, since I have included these guys.
3 - There is no mention of mechansied divisions, but If there is I am wrong.
4 - I haven't had a chance to deploy my airborne or engineers, but you will find the mountaineers mixed in with those attacking on the coastal flank of your attack.

Please read everything fully before you start going on at me. If I have made a few errors, its because I am suffering from insomnia and have had about 6 hours sleep in the last 4 days. I'm sorry for all were invovled in this, and if I come across as angry, but I honestly am so tired I don't know what is going on. The call came across the lines to retreat. Shattered by constant artillery bombardments, as well as now being fully surrounded, all units had begun to pull back, the armour being left as the rearguard while the rest retreated. Around the area, minefields were planted by munitions from the rocket artillery and by the engineer regiment, to attempt to give them some time for the ships to arrive.

Shipping lane 29: 150 miles offshore from Drvarska

Merchant vessels of Alfegos origin could by law be commendeered by the Alfegos government for use by the military during a time of crisis. And the situation in Jingistan had become just that.

5 container ships as well as a passenger ferry were ordered to be sent out to the coast to pick up as many troops and as much equipment as they could, so they could be taken up the coast to the relatively safe Drvarska, to give time for the proper naval transports and airlift to arrive. While airlift would take only 12 hours from Alfegos mainland, ships would take a week. Too long for the troops. While as many vessels as possible had been sent out, these vessels were needed now to ferry people away.

_____________

The skies above the evacuation zone

The enemy fleet was a problem: luckily, the other airship that had been sent to the area, the AAS Shooting Star, had not yet been shot down, and had been moping around for too long. Together with a pair of aero-destroyers, it had flown out into the bay to attempt to at least cause minor damage to the offshore fleet.

A few miles behind it came merchant airfleet Gold: an Erika-class airship able to carry 7000 tonnes and four Clipper-class airships able to carry 5000 tonnes each. To protect these ships which would be removing equipment while the troops took the conventional ships away, 4 aero-frigates armed each with a pair of autocannons and a rack of 10 Songbird IIIar ultra-long range AAMs, they were the only thing the airships had to protect from the enemy missiles and aircraft that would doubtlessly come at them.

The airships began to take onboard the vehicles of regiments of artillery, while the men took up defensive positions behind temporary fortifications of sandbags, trenches, temporary wooden bunkers and of wrecked vehicles.

Look out in future for more airships in the skies, perhaps with the tactics and weapons systems developed a bit more, so much more effective than they sometimes are. The ships arrived and left, the men slowly leaving the country to Drvarska, and then back to their original postings in Alfegos and its colonies. The airships backed down, helping instead in removing what wrecks could still be salvaged or in carrying the thousands of bodies back home to the Cemetary of Heroes in New Zevkhay.

A map of the minefields and temporary fortifications was wired to both sides, so that they could reduce civilian losses in the large area covered in deadly munitions, while the munitions dump, escpecially the one with the yellow-band gases, were cleared up and decontaminated.

Within 5 days (sorry for the time warp), the Alfegans had left the countries, with the government still keeping an eye on the region so that they could possibly intervene in future in a way that was much more less likely to involve loss of life.

2nd SS Corps, Kampfgruppe Jingiskan:

The radars on the SS SA-17 batteries and Tunguska-Ms all picked up the air armada at the same time. Surprise was lost, but confusion, for a few minutes, reigned.

"What... what are they?"
"They look like Iron Annies. They can't be. They're not really going to send Ju-52s against us are they?"
"It ... it'll be a slaughter!"
"Then a slaughter they shall get..."

All across the Corps, air defence units began to open fire. The 2nd SS fielded some 656 Tunguska-Ms and other AAA weapons systems, and 6th Armoured alone boasted 288 SA-17 TELARs, each of which had four SA-17s pre-loaded. The low-, slow-flying Junkers aircraft, devoid of air cover and attacking hardened and elite troopers, were doomed.

30mm cannon blasted into the sky, chains of tracer punching their way up into the blue as rockets began to roar forth from their launchers. The chaff dropped by the single enemy Su-35 (which had escaped the attention of the SS air defence units) was laughable, not even beginning to do the job it was supposed to do against the powerful radars on the SA-17s and in the air defence batteries of the SS paratroopers and infantry.

Individual SS men began to add their Iglas to the barrage, puncturing the sky with hundreds of smoke trails as heavy machine guns mounted on top of armoured personnel carriers and tanks joined in the furore.

"It'll be a miracle if anyone gets out of that clusterfuck alive," smiled Beckenbauer, "and if they do, our paratroopers will crush them."

The JU-52s came into range of Alagabat making a deafening sound like a mass swarm of bees. The SU-37 deployed chaff to block the radio frequencies, this will last for at least two hours. The JU-52s split and headed towards their LZ. Paratroopers stood up in their aircraft and hooked up, the light came red and the stood at the door. With the chaff in affect they still would have alarmed the soldiers below as they did not go through the exercise of doing a silent drop due to numbers. This assault was called Operation "Rösselsprung" (Knights Move).

The JU-52s were a few min out of their Drop Zones...

OOC: Believe me when I say this, that one load of chaff will at best protect the plane that dropped it and a few of the Ju-52s immediately behind it, maybe a hundred at most.

The grunts on the ground are, in addition, quite capable of seeing your fleet with their naked eyes. The RADAR sets on the air defence kit are also very good; while chaff would confuse them for a while I don't think it'd last two hours and at any rate you're only getting rid of some of the rockets' guidance; the AA artillery (30mm cannon, HMGs etc) don't need RADAR and unguided rockets fired into an air fleet as large as that have a high likelihood of hitting something.

You are flying over an extremely heavily defended Corps which bristles with anti-aircraft weapons systems. I would either advise dropping somewhere else, or alternatively resigning yourself to hideous casualties before you even stand up to jump I'm afraid. :(
Drvarska
11-01-2008, 06:30
OOC: Unfortuantly they already coming over the drop zones so there is not much of a difference if they turn around. With the chaff however I will make a slight correction that there were a wing of fighters (15) that spread over the enemy lines deploying the chaff. I understand that its easy to see them through the naked eye but that is for psycological reasons, the sound and sight of 400 large planes in the air making a deafening noise would surely get some men frightened or at least panic and disrupt the advance.

Dvarska - 400 Ju-52s? Fear? No. Laughter? Yes. I strongly suspect that your airborne assault is likely to end up like Crete... except without the victory. Hey ho. I'll respond once you write up some casualties amongst a) the jamming aircraft (as they can be picked up on RADAR by SA-17s and SA-18s) and b) the Junkers (as they can be seen by, well, all the anti-aircraft artillery, and there's a lot of it).

Army Group HQ, Arabad:

"Sir, the Look Incorporated chaps want to know where to go."
"Oh bugger, yes, I'd forgotten about our mercenary friends. Right, er, tell them to accompany 4 and 7 Legions in plugging the gap between 2nd SS and Western Army."
"Yessir!"

Western Army:

Having moved west once more, I and II Corps began to approach the Dvarskan 1st Armoured Division. The line began to close across Jingiskan, with 4 and 7 Legions now supporting both 2nd SS Armoured and Western Army. It was with some anger that the commanders of Western Army had learnt of the retiring of the Jingiskani 1st Infantry Division, but they knew that they had the advantage in morale and equipment - if not necessarily numbers.

The enemy's T-90s were, however, the most powerful tanks that the T-95s of Western Army had faced yet - but not so powerful that they couldn't be harmed.

As was usual, the attack began with a massive bombardment of enemy positions, guided in by unmanned drone aircraft and sustained until the line of advance had been thoroughly hammered by the huge assortment of artillery availiable to the Army. 250mm shells that broke into hundreds of individual anti-tank minelets were accompanied by 300mm rocket bombardments from BM-30s, while the 152mm main guns of the 'Msta' self-propelled guns launched a mix of high explosive and 'smart' anti-tank top-down attack munitions. The bombardment lasted for four hours, hitting every single grid square that the 1st Armoured occupied until the likelihood of any tank being undamaged was so slim as to be laughable.

Still protected by the bombardment, the Army advanced. BMP-4s growled forwards, their electronics target-scanning to find the T-90s their 100mm main guns could kill, accompanied by their dismounted infantry confidently toting their RPG-29s (which guarantee a mission-kill with a hit on the frontal armour of a Challenger II).

The screen of infantry and AIFVs was supported by the three and a half thousand T-95s of the 3rd and 6th Legions, and their crews, battle-hardened and experienced, knew that they were facing the fight of their lives. The BMP support would probably swing the battle, as the extra firepower that they could bring would help to protect the up-armoured and upgraded T-95s as well as getting kills.

"Let's hope the bombardment worked," breathed the commander as his staff moved the unit icons forwards...

Northern Army:

As Western Army moved west south of Abad, Northern Army began to engage the battered Dvarskan 6th and 7th Infantry divisions. Their enemies were on foot, and the Northern Army - supported by what were, essentially, two reinforced brigades of Jingiskani troops - was looking forwards to having armoured superiority.

Again the artillery opened fire, again the rockets and shells and minelets rained down. Whole grid squares vanished under blossoming fireballs as BM-30s hammered areas spotted by the drones of the forward artillery observation units. 250mm shells slammed into the enemy's positions as 152mm cluster rounds scattered deadly bomblets into trenches and across the ground.

Behind the bombardment came the attack. Almost five thousand tanks and armoured infantry fighting vehicles roared forwards, their guns blazing, supported by infantrymen advancing with snarls on their faces and weapons tightly gripped...

Commander Brauer and his group jumped out just as his JU-52 caught fire and exploded.

Nor could they properly fight the infantry anti-tank teams, for whom the streets and buildings of Abad were a hunter-killer's paradise. Tanks, trapped in alleyways. Skgorria
11-01-2008, 12:59
OOC: 5th Infantry has just been hit by 1st SS (Armoured) Corps...!

1st SS (Armoured) Corps, North of Abad:

Led by Zionbane and with Atopiana Erwache in support, the three divisions of the 1st SS Armoured slammed hard into the Dvarskan 5th Infantry division. The SS armour was having a field day. With full loads of ammunition and fuel, the divisions tore into the Dvarskan infantry. 30mm cannon, 100mm HE, 40mm grenades, 7.92mm machine-gun fire and the odd RPG fired at persistent pockets of resistance were the sounds of the day as the 1st SS pushed their attack on all sides of the Dvarskans...

2nd SS (Infantry) Corps, South of Algabat:

"Well," smiled the Tunguska's commander, "that's a lot of paras that won't be landing any time soon. Come on lads, time to turn about and take the paras by the scruff of the neck..."

While the SS Infantry of 4th and 1st divisions established a defensive line to bolster the Jingiskani mechanised unit, and pin the Dvarskans behind their trenches, the armour of 6th SS Grossetape wheeled about and drove for the landing zones. The paratroopers, devoid of heavy guns and hurting from their brush with death at the hands of the Corps' anti-aircraft, had to be crushed now before they could re-org on the ground. The tanks of the 6th were the tool for the job, and they went at it with gusto; several Tunguska crews opened up on the paratroopers as they floated helplessly downwards, the 30mm cannons tearing into the sky at the dangling men.

The Paras hit the ground and were spread out with the tanks charging into their direction, the paras were some of the most elite men in the Drvarskan Army. They were well equipped, well trained and highly experienced. They had faced a charge of tanks before and they could do it again. Immediatly they got out Panzerfaust 3s and RPG-21s. As well as being equipped with satchel charges they had good cover in the tropical area of Jingiskan underneath the trees and rocks.

They slowly regrouped and picked off each tank one by one in fire teams armed with heavy AT weapons.

With the Divisions turning around this gave opputunity for four battalions of the 3rd Infantry Division and 2 Infantry and three armoured from the 1st Mechanized Division to advance onto the Skgorrian forces with their backs turned. Charging forwards with the help of an artillery barrage from four batteries of D-30s.

Abad

The SS division did not slam into the 5th Infantry Division heavily killing everything. The Drvarskan troops knew that they would be outflanked and have to prepare themselves from armoured units. Bringing out their two battalions of Anti-tank guns they fired heavy HEAT rounds into the armoured units charging forwards at them, they watched as each tank was hit by a high velocity round. The soldiers were also armed with Carl Gustav Recoiless rifles that were indeed effective to tanks.

The town of Abad was not a crammed city and did give Drvarskan armour enough space to move around and rotate. Although the Drvarskans were surrounded they merged to the North East of town where they will push out and link up with the 5th Infantry Division. It was a daring action but they had no choice. The T-90 tank commanders mounted their large 12.7mm machine gun and nailed any Skgorrian soldier who dared to stand up and fire an AT round at them. Though they did loose quite a few tanks as they were cornered and swarmed onto by the enemy. The tank crews who had to bail their tracked tanks ran along side the rest of their platoon armed with P-90s and gave the tanks extra cover.

OOC: They're Foreign Legionnaires in Abad, not Skgorrians. ;) And in all fairness the SS and IFL are both Imperial units anyway, calling them 'Atopian' or 'Skgorrian' is a bit insulting... :p

1st SS Armoured:

Thanks to the up-armour packages applied as standard to the T-95s, only a few of the HEAT shells penentrated. Most simply whined off the increased armour, its steeply sloping ballistic shape preventing the shells from boring through the tanks, much to the relief of the crews.

Realising that this was not going to be as easy as they had anticipated, they began to advance more cautiously; firing smoke to cover themselves and relying on their advanced targeting systems to penentrate the dense cloud of roiling white smoke and bring accurate fire on the anti-tank guns of the Dvarskans. Tunguska-Ms depressed their 30mm cannon and laid down suppressing fire as the BMP-4s of the Atopiana Erwache division crept forwards, their own cannon barking and pounding out a staccato reply to the rockets of the Dvarskans.

SS infantry ran, crawled, and walked forwards, their weapons ready, hearts thumping with adrenaline as they hunted the enemy AT teams. Platoons advanced in leapfrog as battalions and brigades began to feed into the assault. Casualties were expected, but duty, loyalty, and honour kept the SS in the field. Most were hardened veterans of wars past and the internecine conflict that had only recently ended within the Empire itself; they were no strangers to the battlefield and advanced singing.

To the Dvarskan front, the Zionbane armoured division rolled forwards. To their left, the mechanised infantry of Landstorm Skgorria pushed against stiff resistance, always attacking, always keeping the pressure up, and never taking a step back. To their right, the Atopiana Erwache shock division.

And all the time, shells fell among them. Cluster bomblets, high explosive, shrapnel, minelet-bombs, smoke, and incendiary shells and rockets pounded and pounded the Dvarskan positions as 1st SS (Armoured) Corps' attack continued into the night...

2nd SS (Infantry) Corps, Algabat:

As the Dvarskans left their defenses and advanced on the SS troopers, they were met with heavy gunfire. Mortars dropped amongst them, shells and rockets adding themselves to the hellish inferno that plastered the Dvarskan soldiers of the 1st Mechanised and 3rd Infantry.

Yet still they came, and, as they began to reach the killing zones prepared by the SS troopers, they hit minefields, machine-gun boxes, and the withering fire of the dug-in SS soldiers. Anti-aircraft guns fired in the ground role, supporting the shoulder-launched rockets of the infantry. BMDs from the Black Standard paratroop division began to counter-attack the Dvarskan mechanised thrust, covered by their own infantry.

They would not pass. Grossetape would not be hindered in its task of destroying the Dvarskan paratroopers.

Foreign Legion Airborne, 4 and 7 Legions, East of Algabat:

"Flash message from GHQ, sir. We're to proceed with all speed to here, SSE of Algabat, and engage one enemy airborne division which is currently under attack by the Grossetape."
"Very well. At last, a fight worthy of the Yanitarian Legion... and the Kroandan, of course."
"Indeed, sir. I'll get them moving."
"Do so. We must move fast!"

6 SS-Armoured Division Grossetape, SSE of Algabat:

The commanders pored over the tactical maps and intelligence assessments. Somebody had blundered, and badly. The tropical terrain made it hard for the tankers to do much except die, unless... unless...

"Get me Beckenbauer."
"Sir."

There was one possibility, but it required clearance, and initiative.

"Beckenbauer speaking."
"Sir! CiC Grossetape reporting. Request permission to set fire to the enemy landing zone."
"Granted. Action without delay!"
"Thank you, sir."

Turning from the radio set, the commander turned to his staff and smiled.

"Burn them."

Within ten minutes, the tanks had begun to disengage, pulling back from the woods under covering fire from their long-ranged weapons. Five minutes after they were clear, the artillery opened up again - with incendiary shells, napalm canisters, and white phosphorous rockets.

The terrain would burn, and the Dvarskans could either burn, or advance onto the guns of the Grossetape, who were now settled in, hull-down, and waiting, like huntsmen, for the game to come towards them...

Western Army, Abad:

"Get those fucking Jingskiani arseholes to their reorg area. Tell them to hightail it to Quaban, the remnants of their army is regrouping there as 1st Infantry Division, although that's stretching it a bit in my opinion. And contain that damn breakout attempt!"
"Sir."

As the T-90s of 1st Armoured began to drive north, towards the city limits, they were pursued all the way by handheld anti-tank rockets. The casualties had been high - tank-hunting was risky work - but the return was great. And now the enemy was driving straight into the waiting guns of the East African Legion's T-95s. Even as the first T-90s appeared, the 3rd Legion's gunners fired. DU SABOT tore from the 125mm main guns as divisional artillery sprinkled anti-tank minelets over the Dvarskan tanks with liberal abandon.

Meanwhile, the tankers of the Errikan Legion were racing around the side of Abad, hoping to reinforce the East African tanks in order to totally halt the attempted breakout...

Army Group HQ, Arabad:

"How's the war going, Franks?"
"Well, sir. We're fighting the Dvarskans hard - they're a damn sight tougher than the Colstreamers or Alfegans, I'll say that for them - and should be on schedule for Operation: Zulu within the fortnight."
"I don't think that's possible right now, Franks. Our men need a rest - damnit, we've been fighting for eight days now, essentially, and active in a combat zone for 10. As soon as we can establish a defence line from Alagabat to Abad, I want it done. The Jingiskanis need to get their act together at Quaban and we need to contain and crush the Dvarskans before we can commence with Zulu."
"Very well sir. I'll issue the appropriate orders."
"What are the casualty figures like?"
"See for yourself. The SS have given us their figures as well."

OOC: Thats my bad. Also a reminder that this is a non NBC conflict. Napalm bombs are considered part of chemical warfare, sorry. As well as that how could your troops be dug in while advancing towards Alagabat? As well as being dug in facing the exact positions where the paras dropped?

IC:

Alagabat

The paratroopers avoided the napalm strikes by moving out of their drop zones and into better cover where they continued to fire upon the enemy. The Drvarskan's elite training prooved to be useful by using their tactics to outflank enemy positions and knock out any MG nests they had by using co-ordinated artillery strikes called in from Alagabat city where they had four batteries of D-30s. Using covering fire to advance they received less casualties by keeping the Skgorrian soldiers pinned.

Commander Brauer moved along with his regiment of well trained paratroopers into the trees where they saw the stationary tanks taking cover. They ambushed them with their hand held AT weapons that was aimed towards the vital parts of the T-95 such as the engine or the gas tank.

Finding out that there were two more divisions moving up on them they had to find a way to retreat and breakout to Alagabat. He issued the orders that Group C and D link up and push out North while Group A and B link up and push out West.

http://img441.imageshack.us/my.php?image=alagabatbattleom2.jpg

The advancing Drvarskan battalions was not all of the defences but only a mere taskforce to help the paratroopers, a force of 5,000 men out of the 30,000 garrisoned in Alagabat. They resumed to distract the enemy divisions giving the paratroopers time to break out.

Casualties:
231 Paratroopers KIA
469 Paratroopers WIA

16,450 Paratroopers Remaining

================

Abad

The breakout continued but the T-90s were not all that weak of being destroyed by mere hand held AT weapons. They were upgraded by the Drvarskan army fitted with Explosive Reactive armour and 3rd Generation composite; including high-hardness steel, tungsten and plastic filler with ceramic components. Most T-90 tanks lost in battle were either tracked by multiple hits to the treads or ran out of fuel due to supply problems.

The T-90s contined and now were just exiting the town busting through some T-95s that were blocking the path, they were fired upon by a column of T-90s and then rammed out of the path with any fleeing crew gunned down.

Casualties:

28 T-90 Destroyed
22 T-90 Damaged (12 Tracked and Abandoned, 10 Disarmed)
121 Men KIA
79 Men WIA

OOC:

Dashie - You have to RP your troops coming to Drvarska and mobilizing. You cant just make them appear out of the ground and throw them in to the heat of battle. It would take half a day at least to airship them in or by convoy. Please post an order of battle so we can make NATO map symbols of your army/brigades/divisions.

The Jingiskan Task Force left to disembark in Drvarska before making the journey to the front. The mistake of sending outgunned Tanks was not going to be repeated. This time they were near in strength and in tactics to Atopiana. They were determined to win this time.

The battle order was:

Jingiskan Task Force:

Colstream Army:

80,000 soldiers plus 1200 tanks(400 MS1 Panther MBTs, 300 MS2 Panther MBTs, 250 Challenger 2 MBTs, 250 T-90 MBTs.)
300 Artillery Pieces
200 MLRS Batteries
100 Scud Launchers (Normal HE Missiles)

Colstream Navy:

8 Battleships
5 Cruisers
7 Destroyers
4 Aircraft Carriers

Colstream Air Force:

300 Fighters, various types.

The Colstream Forces could land in Drvarska in 12 hours, establish half of their forces within 24 hours and be in full strength in 48 hours due to the fact they won't have to land in Jingiskan this time.

Various Dashie stealth bombers are landing near Zenica in order to refuel and carry out air attack on Jingiskani forces.

# of stealth bombers either ready or landing: 150

Losses:
2 men killed, 4 injured (non-combat related)

-----

1st and 2nd Dashie marines are expected to make landfall on border between Drvarskan territory and Jingiskani territory (Western side) within 2 hours.

Plan of action: Hold position to secure the border, and then possibly move down to Alagabat to assist friendly forces.

The Jingiskan Taskforce arrived in Drvarska. 100,000 Soldiers and their supporting APCs, 1200 Tanks plus Artillery, MLRS launchers and Scud Missile Launchers started to Move for the southeast of Drvarska. 20,000 more Soldiers plus 300 Tanks was also arriving to act as reinforcements which would be fed into the front as the main force would take losses.

To Drvarska:

What is our orders? We have established a temporary base 20 miles from the Drvarska-Jingiskan border on the southeast Coast. The Colstream Navy is near Jingiskan Waters and the Colstream Air Force had 300 Fighters of various types, waiting to support our forces.

From: Drvarska High Command

We would greatly appreciate your help in Alagabat where one of our paratrooper divisions have been surrounded after a large assault to pull off the Skgorrian offensive.

We would also appreciate help in Abad where one of our tank divisions is busting out after being surrounded as well to link up with the 6th Infantry Division. We could use soldiers spread out along the front and also get naval support knocking out the three Jingiskani warships on the Western Shores.

Thank you,

The Colstream Army Artillery opened up on the front northeast of Abad. Also as a diversionary strike, several Scuds were fired both at the Northern Front and the Skorgorrians beseiging Alagabat. The Colstream Navy began firing Cruise Missiles at a long distance at the Jingiskan Navy near the Stronghold. 8,000 Soldiers and 700 Tanks started to advance over the border and headed towards Abad to relieve the trapped Drvarskan Armour. Aircraft from the Aircraft Carriers began their approach to support the moving forces. They would reach the border in a few hours.

Changed plan of action:

Plans of action for: Heavy infantry, Light infantry

Both units have now landed on the border slightly above Alagbat (but not in Jingiskani territory yet). No battles reported yet.

In other news, air strikes are continuing near Abad with the loss of 2 stealth bombers. 300 Artillery units are also being shipped and will be in Drvarska in 2 days. The initial plan of moving to Abad was scrapped. The 4th division plans to drop over the border, but are not able to move today.

Loses: 2 humvees (1 drove over a cliff, the other's engine exploded); 1 Tank (electrical problems), 5 men (4 from humvee over the cliff).

Units have been ordered for a possible push downward into Alagbat.

Units still on the way: 5 AC-130 gunships, along with an aircraft carrier that just left from the Dashie mainland.

OOC: If I were to attack an enemy, would I put their casualties too, or let them decide those?

"A bit warm today," quipped one of the officers in charge of B company, of the 1st Dashie marines. "These bugs are going to get on my nerves."

He was in the second car of a 6 vehicle convoy (3 humvees, 3 troop carriers).

Suddenly, an explosion ripped through the first humvee, sending the main gunner's body flying through the air. A man dressed in camo jumped out of the woods screaming, and dove at the convoy before detonating explosives, instantly killing 12 of 16 men in one carrier.

The men were in a frenzy now. Jingiskani soldiers came out of nowhere firing in every position. It was the perfect ambush. 31 men were now dead as the officer jumped into the front seat of his humvee and attempted to get away, ignoring the two dead soldiers in the back seat, and the slumped machine gunner at on the turret. It was no use, as an RPG blasted his windshield killing him instantly.

The remaining 28 men fought to the death, but the Jingiskani forces picked up all of their bodies, loaded them into trucks, and drove away. Nobody ever saw them again.

OOC: The rules of a RP is that the Jingiskani actions are decided by me and their total losses. Right now the Jingiskani division in abad has been completly shattered when the Drvarskan armour advanced in. They only have a company now that is clearing up and attacking the trapped Drvarskan armour which is pushing out desperatly from the advancing SS soldiers of the Atopianan and Skgorrian armies. I will have a post up soon of Jingiskani actions.

North West Jingiskan (Along coast)

The 2nd Jingiskani Infantry Division has reformed and refitted. They prepared to move out and attack the dug in Drvarskan divisions along the North of Abad. With 25,000 men strong they were still in action after the fatal attack of Alfegan soldiers, if it was not for Atopianan troops they would have suffered more casualties.

==============

Jingiskani Waters, NW Jingiskan

The three warships recieved warnings of incoming artillery fire, immediatly they began to arm battle stations and fire guided missiles towards the origin of the artillery. A shell hit the side of the JS "Warrior" (Capital Ship) which did not cause to much damage because the thick armour protected the main water lines but if repeated shells hit the exact same area it could become fatal. The Deck guns began to load and fire onto any called in positions of Drvarskan and their allied positions.
