The City State of Erantum

[Overview]
The City State of Erantum is a small independent city-nation of 5 million ruled by a council comprised of representatives from the most wealthy corporations in the nation. This unique government style breeds a fiercely competitive capitalist society in which monopolies are unchecked, prices are dictated by the provider, and the needs lower classes are always provided for, even if at a price so astronomical as to be impossible. All needs of the populous are privatized, with giant conglomerates providing for health care, education, and security within the city of Erantum. The 'government' has only one responsibility: Providing protection for whichever conglomerate can seize enough votes in the council to justify it.

Government/Politics

The government of the City State is a unique system, grown out of an extremely capitalist society. Tasked almost primarily with the defense of the nation, the government is a tangled morass of bribes, favors, and corruption.

[Executive Branch]

The Chief National Executive serves as the leader of Erantum, and is the only popularly elected government figure in the City State. Serving a term of six years, the Chief National Executive is responsible for overseeing the actions of the Defense Council, and holds a veto power that is overridden by a simple majority vote. The current Chief National Executive of Erantum is Darius Fleet.

[Defense Council]

Due to the unique task of the government in Erantum, there is no legislative body, and the government is more of a defense alliance than a functioning legislative body. The Defense Council is comprised of representatives who are dispatched and funded by the corporation they represent. All corporations meeting certain requirements are permitted to send delegates to the Defense Council:

Corporation Net Worth > $100,000,000 = 1 Delegate
One additional representative is permitted per $50,000,000 net worth over the initial entry requirement.

Foreign corporations are permitted, though they may not exceed 5 seats individually, or 10% of the Defense Council seats total. This protects Erantanian monopoly of it's own defensive capability. Beyond this, no regulations are imposed upon the market or corporations by the government.

Due to this system, corporations are commonly seen stamping out competition with private military forces, but only if they can guarantee enough votes in the Defense Council to eliminate the risk of the Erantanian military becoming involved in the situation. This fact breeds fierce and deadly competition in the Erantanian market.

Economy

Due to it's highly privatized nature, Erantum's Defense Council is charged almost primarily with the defense of the City State. This allows an immense portion of the budget to be dedicated to defense.
