Rebellion in Escum

Nova Veridonium
01-01-2008, 19:22
The United Empire of Nova Veridonium's territories in the far away continent of Escum have began their fifth rebellion in twenty years, they seem to forget the power of our empire. The capital of the province of Escum, Esconium, has fallen to rebel forces intent on cutting the province in half. The 5th and 2nd Imperial Armies have been deployed in the region to quell the rebellion and have established a beach head on the western coast, an area with large sympathy for the rebels. All help from other nations will be greatly appreciated by Emperor Maximus IV, and he will be very open to alliances after.

The Empire of Leopold XII of Esterhaza is willing to provide much needed supplies to the Imperial Armies in order to quell this civil unrest. Is there a safe harbor to dock our supply ships?

THE STATE DEPARTMENT
To Emperor Maximus IV of Nova Veridonium,
From The Royal Prince of Wales,

The Colonial Empire of The Royal Code may have an interest in this conflict, if in the end of the fact we may gain a profit. The CERC wishes to inquire the cause of the rebellion, the motives of the rebels, and why the Novan government will not allow the secession.

To Leopold XII: The harbor of Zilifan, the last city in our control, is safe to land in.

To the Royal Prince of Whales: Just a minor grammatical correction, we are called Veridonians, and the original empire was called Verindonium. Nova was added after the change in power from Maximus II to his son, Maximus III, father of our current emperor. Their cause is the liberation we gave them from their previous occupoers, the Zifilian empire, who oppressed the people. They are led by old aristocrats of the empire bent on their own selfish means. The empire is called United, no? That is why there is no seccession, united we are strong!

King Istan of the Kingdom of Mi-Goh read the letter. He smiled. Rebellions everywhere, it seemed. As one who had just come onto the throne by means of a bloody, prolonged, and desperate war, he was inclined to help the rebels.

He picked up his pen and started to write:

TO: Emperor Maximus IV
From: King Istan.

I shall need to understand the precise nature of this rebellion and the name of the rebel leader before I pledge my support. Why do they rebel? What are they armed with and what strenght have their forces?

To King Istan and the Royal Prince of Whales:

Known Statistics:

The rebels are not a unified rebel army, more a unified insurgency of different groups warring against the provincial government. The main leaders of the rebellion are Zorfan Norelius, leader of the infamous Escum Free Army, a prophet cult leader known simply as Arfur, and a suspicious figure known as the Hammer of the Gods, apparently a term of the main religion of the province, Asradianism.

Estimated Numbers (Total): 120,000

Total Population of Province: 2,156,701 (According to last year's census)

Their weapons vary from simple knives, primitive swords, and small arms to anti-tank weapons and assault rifles.

This information is uncensored and is considered TOP SECRET, so it is advised all of it is kept as such.

Thank You,
Emperor Maximus IV

To: Zorfan Norelius of the Escum Free Army
From: King Istan.

Having recieved notice of your cause, Mi-Goh offers its support in the form of 100,000 men, 50 assorted tank and armored cars, and air support. I would like to keep our relationship secret for now. Keep in touch, my friend.

To: Emperor Maximus IV.
From: King Istan.

I can send you supplies and non-military aid. Unfortunately, I must keep most of my army to Mi-Goh for threat of a military incursion from our neighbors. I give this aid freely and without a bargain, but out of your charity and selflessness, I would liek to be paid for my help. However, if youre economy cannot support such a payment, I understand.

To Lord Ragen II:

As far as our operatives know the insurgents are committing routine executions of all loyal citizens of the empire. All help in stopping this would be much appreciated.

To King Istan:

We do not need your aid, thank you. We are not a poor nation, only one that was lacking the muscle right at the moment we were stricken. Now that allies and others have assisted and that our other armies are ready we can give the bastards what they deserve.

NEWS FROM ESCUM (excerpt from the Veridonian Daily)

The 2nd Imperial Army has had a great victory today! They have retaken the eastern coast by ambitious air and amphibious landings. They have established a fifty mile beach head and have liberated most of the towns on the coast, including the small city of Forindium. However rebels are still under siege in a small pocket in the town of Arsonium.

On the northern coast:

Augustus looked at his bloodied hands, he had gotten it not bad all compared to the rest of the soldiers in his squad. The air drop operation had gone horribly on the account that rebels with cheap bazookas had succeeded in shooting down their aircraft. Those other planes who had succeeded in dropping their squads had only seen them wiped out by rebels hidden in the nearby forest and fields, for the northern coast was very fertile unlike the deserts in the south. No doubt this would not make the news, but other successful operations would. They were surrounded, and by what he had heard operations to take the coast by amphibious landings had turned out horribly. This war would cost them much, and he could not wait to kill as many rebel traitors as he could. All civilians who were traitors were shot on spot without trial, and he had no qualms with that.

Under the cover of night, a hundred Mi-Goh transports, each carrying thirty men, landed silently on the Northern Coast of Nova Veridonium. Rebel forces moved in to meet them, shaking hands with their new allies. Together, they would surround the pocket of Imperial troops left on this coast and wipe them out.

On the East Coast, a larger landing took place. 30,000 men were air-dropped into an area around Arsonium, along with 20 tanks.
The forces stormed through Imperial army, which was taken by surprise, and linked up with the Escum Free Army. They would prepare to fight their way out and link up with other cities along the coast.

The War Room

"sir. We have just received word about the Rebellion in Escum." Mumbled Lord Ragan's Assistant. "Well?! Out with it!" yelled Lord Ragan II. "W-Well....it appears that there was another attack. On the shore. They require your help." he said in a clearly terrified voice. "Fine......dispatch 4 bombers. Is that weapons satalite on-line yet?" "yes sir" "good. I want it ready to fire on the beach in 15 min." "yes sir!"

Four Hours later at the beach

The Mi-Goh forces were about to attack when they all looked up and could see four huge bombers heading right for them! When they looked back down again the Imperial Army had already retreated to safety. Before they had time to start running it was too late....one of the bombers let down a firey rain of bombs.

Twenty Minutes Later on the shore

As the dust lifted there was still a some of the enemy forces standing and they bagan to persue the Imperial Forces. But they were no where to be found.

Admiral Ilkrad stood on the deck of the ship. Mi-goh allies where storming the shore. His battle ship moved into position. suddently fire came from the forest near the landing allies,
"Could this be the rebels?" he thought to himself.
Then out of no where bombers flew from the sky, bombs hit the side of the ship, not any real damage but it did give the Admiral the abillity to attack. The cannobns fired into he forst. trees and screams flew every where.

To the Escum forces,
we will side with our allies the Mi-gohese, but if we meet at battle feilds we will back down unless you fire at us.

Northern Rangeria

To Nova Veridonium:

The Principality of Northern Rangeria is by nature a country built on mutual respect and the limiting of the military power in favour of diplomacy and negotiation. However, the humanitarian ramifications of this conflict have not escaped us. With the approval of His Majesty, Emperor Maximus III, we would wish to send medical aid in form of mobile field hospitals to the warzone. We will not take part in armed combat, and the treatment is available to both Veridonians and rebels alike, civilian, insurgent or soldier.

Do we have His Majesty's approval to provide humanitarian aid to the people living and fighting on Escum?

General Eimles sent a message of thanks to Latonesian forces. They were good allies; he felt he could rely on them.

Next he ordered small force of tanks and AA weapons into the North Coast. The North coast was now completely held by EFA forces. He would set up a base of operations there soon, and from there he could block the advances of the west and send forays into the east Coast to help the troops already deployed there.

Location: The East Coast.

The battle was bloody and pitched. Eventually the combined EFA and Mi-Gohian forces turned aside another Imperial advancement and pushed the attack. The Imperial forces were forced to retreat--not far, but the The rebels had gained some breathing room.

Another 10,000 Mi-Gohian forces, assisted with light ground vehicles, landed near Forindium, taking heavy fire. They surrounded the city and awaited further orders.

To All Allies of Verindonium:

Emperor Maximus IV thanks all nations who have contributed help. He will be pleased to let you know that Arfur the cult leader rebel has been captured! His horrible and disgusting person has been paraded through the streets of the capital in chains! He is expected to be executed by firing squad tomorrow by decree of Martial Law Act II which gives the Emperor the right to execute all enemies of the state in times of war.

On the eastern coast

Veridonian tanks rolled into the village, it had been known as a safe haven for the insurgency, particularly for the now captured leader Arfur. Two armored divisions and three infantry divisions paraded through it to intimidate the populace so it would not perform similar rebellions again. All known rebels in the village were rounded up by force and executed by firing squad. Veridonian troops burned the fields of the villagers in revenge against them, and the officers did not protest. A sniper sentry sent back a radio message to the commander, rebel forces had been spotted, but with something else, actual tanks. "Damn Mi-Goh." He muttered to himself. "I want the whole area hit with airstrikes, I do not give a damn where you hit as long as you are not hitting us." Off the coast aircraft carriers recieved the orders and gave the go signal to their strategic bombers, and they quickly rumbled off the aircraft. They only hit a percentage of the troops but they quickly routed them.

After a week of preparation, Task force 247-II, Battle Group Tango, was ready to ship out. The 11th Mountain and 17th Cavalry had been alerted for deployment, and fortunately, thanks to already having been called for war games, they were packed and ready to roll out.

The few dozen warships, and numerous supply and support vessels made up the new fleet, and before the following week had closed, they had set sail.

Four day's of sailing lay ahead before the carriers would begin launching sorties against the rebels, the day following the task force would be in range to launch the invasion.

A few days time, and this policing action would begin.

And so the day came.

As the Territorial Army's first big deployment in almost 10 years, The Commander of the Territorials, General Cliff Ellis himself volunteered to personally lead the campaign.

With the Veridonian forces having already sketched control of the coast, the initial landings went smoothly. After a five day landing operation, the two divisions began heading south.

Perched atop one of the hundred Behemoth III super heavy battle tanks, General Ellis got his first COM from the lead units.

"General, Delta Company Two-Five-Two has come under hostile fire. Requesting permission to engage! Sir!" the officer yelled.

"Commander, have all units set to Weapons Free. Commence your attack. Out."

Ellis ducked back inside the turret, and said to his crew, "Take us to the front, we'll get a piece of this action as well."

"Yes sir," they replied. Ellis got back on COM, selected all channels, "All Units, Weapons Free. I repeat, Weapons Free. Make due south, engage hostile forces. Be advised Veridonian forces may enter combat zone. Out."
