As of January 1 2008, The Kingdom of SaintB is now a Democratic nation! At precisly 12:01 am on January the 1st New Years Celebrations were put to a temporary halt as the Monarch. Saint Benard I announced to the public that democratic electorial procedures will commence as soon as February and no later than July of this year. The announcement was met with mixed reactions by the public but the overall reaction was the most positive reaction since the Kingdom signed the NEA charter.
Many political analysts beleive that this decision was caused by the high number of political rallies and anti-government messages that have been spreading around the whole nation since early November of last year. Since November '07 the nations unemployment rates have risen from a scant 3.4% to almost 10% causing many of the working class citizens to cry out for a voice. Christmas in SaintB saw 25,000 citizens take the streets outside The Snowflake Palace in Jharekan City for a rally that nearly broke down into a riot; thankfully violence was avoided.
It is currently unknown as to whether the current ruler will be running for a now electoral office, will retire from the public scene, or will continue to run the kingdom as a hereditary leader under the guidance of an elected body. Benard I did however say "I still intend to see the current conflict raging across Nova Eruope through its course."
