A New Year’s Resolution… (MT, Open)

The Scandinvans
01-01-2008, 08:01
Imperial Palace, Valgard:

As the assassin put his hand into his pocket, feeling his high caliber synthetic pistol, he thought of all the evil things that this one man, Emperor Olaf V, had done to his people throughout his and of how the Emperor had forced his people into submission. His years of pain and subservience to the Empire would at last be avenged. The honors of his people would be restored and their heritage remembered. Above all though, the rule of this oppressor over his people would be ended and his people might at last have their freedom restored to him.

The Emperor Olaf V was walking amongst the nobility of the Empire, the leading political leaders of the various parts of his vast domain, and amongst the various dignitaries which had been invited to attend the meeting and had come from the many corners of the Scandinvan Empire, the dignitary just happened to have managed to be made one of these dignitaries. The Emperor himself though was in rather good spirits as the New Year was approaching and another year of his Empire would dawn. Yet, at the same time he was with his wife for the first time in many months, as the Olaf V had been handling various matter across the Empire and had even missed Christmas due to the. Bur now, he was able to enjoy the presence of his entire family for the first time in many moons.

Now as the Emperor and the Empress approached the lone assassin he began to think of what would happen as soon as he commit the foul dead, but he accepted the direct repercussions of what would happen as soon as he had killed the Emperor. Thinking one last time of family, his people, the honor of his ancestors broken, the freedom of his folk taken, and the power that they had once enjoyed vanished. Now was the time of revenge upon the one man responsible for all that had befallen his people and now was the moment of revenge, in the beginning of the clink of the clock which would go on for one minute before the new years came would be the last moments of the life of the tyrant that had wronged his people so much.

As the Emperor now came to the dignitaries from the southwestern desert provinces he had become anxious as the clock began to turn to the final minute before the New Year would arrive was beginning.

Now seeing his perfect, chance as the Emperor was no more then three meters of open space away, he took out his synthetic pistol and began firing. With no other person able to see him pull out the gun there was no one to prevent him from achieving his desired shots that rang directly into the head of the Emperor Olaf V, who immediately fell to the ground and was dying very quickly.

All around him women and children quickly took cover, until one man saw the signal man with gun, which had run out of bullets, standing over the dead Emperor and spit on him. The man, the head of the great house Hailod, yelled,” There is the traitor! Seize him! Do not allow the coward to flee!”

From all around him nobles descended upon the man and quickly seized the lone man who had killed their Emperor. While, they were doing this the Imperial Guard was busy making sure the rest of the Imperial family was now at safe locations and at the same time they had to secure the grounds of the palace and take control of the situation which was brewing. The nobles, filled with rage over the cowardly murder of their beloved Emperor, dragged the man out to the exterior gardens of room where they found a strong branch on a large tree and then flung a tight rope over the tree.

The assassin stood firm as rope was tied around his neck and though he remained stoic he said,” For the freedom of my people do I die and now I go to face my fate, yet happily do I go as I believe what I have done will restore peace and freedom to our once great nation.”

The nobles said nothing to this as they finished tying the rope and promptly strung him and the rope suffocated the assassin till he was died. After he was confirmed dead the nobles brought his body to the ground, cut off his head, and burned all of his remains in a manner befitting a cowardly traitors such as this evil man.

In the aftermath of the scene only two persons had been killed, the Emperor and the assassin, and no serious injuries had occurred. Though the situation was touchy and the Crown Prince would have to await a couple of months before things could be sorted, but the Imperial family had decided to announce to the world what had happened to the Emperor of the Scandinvans.

Imperial News Network Special:

“Two days ago a most terrible event occurred at the Imperial palace during the New Year’s celebration there.

Our Emperor, Olaf V, was murdered by a lone gunman who had managed to sneak a signal synthetic gun in through the security check points because it was made of special materials which allowed it to remain hidden from metal detectors and was sealed inside a special pocket which allowed it to remain hidden from the relatively lax security at the party which the Emperor himself had ordered to better facilitate the movement of people throughout the palace during the party.

As to the assassin himself he was killed quickly afterwards by a number of noblemen within a short while of the murder. The reason behind the actual death of the assassin had been confirmed to be that the gunman has violently resisted being subdued and out of fear of him doing further had no choice but to deliver a blow to his neck which proved to be fatal to the murdered.

May God bless our deceased Emperor and may he grant us all the strength to go through this dark time.

Lady Erida out.”

Our sympathies, noble friends. We have heard of the terrible event that has befallen your great nation, and send our greatest possible condolences to the royal family as well as the whole of your people. Your great emperor will be mourned in the Empire. While we cannot be so sympathetic to his murderer, we do wish that he had been brought to proper justice. We are quite certain that both men found their proper places in the afterlife.

This is a most disastrous thing to happen upon the entry to a new year; who is it that is to follow the late emperor?

OOC: Sorry for the short post, not too much to say at this point.

"It has been confirmed that the man who murdered the Emperor was either acting alone or was in a very small group. With this new found knowledge it has been declared that in the space of four months that the Crown Prince, Ingolf III, will fully ascend to throne as the Emperor of the Scandinvans and that till then the House of Lords and Parliament will act in the place of the Emperor, but in order to prevent them from seizing power for themselves the Imperial army shall be ordered not to act on anything except the orders of their generals of the Imperial family itself.

The Emperor was sitting for an evening tea with the Empress and his son when the envoys came forward. They carried a red and black banner, a bad omen apparently. He bade his wife to leave, although the Crown Prince remained.

"His Imperial Majesty, he bring tragic news from the Empire of Scandinvans."

The thought pervaded his mind. "Yeonghwa?"

"No. The Emperor Olaf V has died, by the hands of an assassin."

The thought disappeared altogether. But it would linger still as the Emperor contemplated just how this would piece together. The man responsible for xenophobia in the Scandinvans Empire has died, but to whom would the reins fall? Prince Karl had been exiled, and Yeonghwa still with him. Would this new Emperor just as worse or will the Empire turn a new leaf? It was obviously too early to tell, but a simple message would clear things up hopefully.

"Issue a message from the Imperial Academy. Send our condelences to the late Emperor, and wish them luck in the rising reign. I want a Hwarang team to find out what's happened to Yeonghwa and Prince Karl. Oh... and mention our vehement distaste for assassins and anarchists, and offer help, although I doubt that would want help. We need to test the waters before we step inside the pool again."

"Yes, Majesty. Any particular message you desire?"

"The Count can write it on my behalf. Nothing obtuse though. Simple and concise."

Imperial Declaration

On behalf of His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor Gwangmu,

It is with great dismay that the Han Empire receives notice of the murder of the late Emperor Olaf V. Though disagreements had put us apart, there is no justice to anarchy and the assassins responsible for the murder of the late Emperor may be caught and persecuted to exhaust them of any lively pleasures. If need be, the Empire will offer assistance in ending the reign of terror inflicted by these assassins. We again send our dearest sympathies to the Scandinvans in this trying time, and we sincerely hope that the new reign of your next Emperor may be prosperous and bright for all to enjoy and witness.

The Emperor was settling back for a nice evening tea with the Empress and the Crown Prince after the unsettling news of the death of Emperor Olaf V. He was still wondering about it, what sort of effects it would place upon the Empire, upon the exiled Prince, and about the new potential, and then another envoy came running to the pavilion. They bore a green flag.

"His Imperial Majesty, we bring news from the embassy in Scandinvans."

"So quickly?"

"Well, the modern convenience of Internet exchange has allowed us to receive an almost instant reply. The Lord Erida sends us this reply."

The envoy read the message, to the Emperor's pure delight. Xenophobia was apparently behind them in the new Crown Prince. Indeed, the wisdom of the Emperor Olaf IV was not lost to deaf ears. What made him delighted was first, the renunciation of exile upon Prince Karl and Yeonghwa, and second the apparent renunciation of the embassy lockdown, although the translation was a bit ambiguous (As well, he shall life the constraints placed upon your embassy). Nonetheless, the news apparently seemed as though the Crown Prince did not share any of his father's tendencies. However, this did not indicate that those who had helped Olaf V to rise to power would not simply disappear. They would linger still, and time would be their only weapon against such men. But greater still was the risk that the assassins had more plans in store for the Scandinvans Empire. Perhaps they were auxiliaries of the Mujeongbu? Well, without further information that would remain pure speculation, although that itself was unlikely. The Mujeongbu had no operations in the Scandinvans Empire as far as the Hwarang were aware.

Still, such an occasion demanded some intervention; but again, only time would be the viable weapon. Still...

"Send them a reply."

"Which reply?"

The Emperor thought - whom to send?

"Send them a reply, indicating that Marquis Pak Yu will be traveling to the Scandinvans Empire to join the embassy and serve in his capacity as Foreign Minister to represent the Han Empire's envoy to the funeral. To pay our respects to the dead."

"Pay our respects to the dead?" The Empress scoffed. "I cannot believe that you would say it! This man tried to kill a daughter of Han. He is a vile criminal and you want to pay his respects?"

"Well, we are the civil ones?" the Emperor replied. "He is dead, and while he was alive, he carried enough dignity to walk for his people. We cannot agree with his ways, but until then, he has done his people well. We shall see to what extent he has done us harm. Besides, we must pay our respects to the Emperor Olaf IV, for his caring wisdom. His hand was perhaps most instrumental in managing the affairs there. And any man who falls to an assassin deserves better."

"Emperor. I can understand respects for Olaf IV, but this man was a murderer. Haven't you heard the rumors? Millions of people dead?"

"I have heard them, but I am not convinced because I have not seen the evidence to support such claims. Although I wouldn't put it beyond them, there is no proof to support these claims."

"Han blood is split! You know it, but you aren't willing to let that spoil our 'relationship' with the Scandinvans! You defile our land by sending a man to condone his actions!..."

"Emperor?" the messengers then said, having heard enough of the Imperial discussion. "May we be excused?"

"Of course. Send them the message."

"It is as you wish." The messengers the left the Imperial couple to continue discussing the merits and vices of the proposition. Whatever the hand said at the end, the message was sent.

We will comply with this request, and furthermore bar our guards from using any metallic weaponry, limited to wooden sticks and their raw hands. We again send our condolences to the family and hope that our arrival gives them the moral courage to stand firm against unrighteous anarchists and terrorists.
