Victorsville Harbor, Vista Buena

Captain Fitch stood on the port starboard bridge wing and watched the Vista Buenan patrol craft that had accompanied his ship for the past few hours. Of course the vessel was no real threat to the Stalwart, but Fitch had no ill intentions.

Fitch was free to stand on the wing because one of his better officers, Lieutenant Carter, was conning the ship into the harbor. Carter’s ship handling skills were uncanny, almost as good as Fitch’s despite the Captain’s six year experience advantage.

The Stalwart’s port call was to serve two purposes, first it was to improve ties between the Commonwealth and Vista Buena and second, it was to let the Vista Buenans know that the Commonwealth was monitoring their nuclear program closely. The Foreign Office had already informed Vista Buena of the port call and offered the several high ranking officers of the Vista Buenan Navy a tour of the ship

Fitch picked up the handset from the nearby railing and called the Radio Room.

“Inform Admiral Critchley that we prepared to receive her party.”

“Aye Sir.”

Once the Captain was off the line the young PO manning the Radio Room dialed his set to the frequency they had been given by the Vista Buenan patrol boat.

“This is the TCS Stalwart. Inform Admiral Critchley that we are prepared to receive her and her party aboard at their convenience.

Most of the men in the Control Room continued to monitor the Vista Buenan patrol craft as it was slowly approaching. Cpt. Fitch watched it to with some binoculars. The Vista Buenan approached. Suddenly, sparks flew out of the monitors of the ship. The ship heaved to one side. The Vista Buenan PT boat heaved also. All of the sudden, a large explosion through the craft into the air. Something emerged from the water with tentecle like object wipping the ship.
"Brace, Brace, We have been hit...."
This was the only radio broadcast given by the ship as for 3/4 of was all ready in the water. Debrie was all over the place with multiple fires. "All to general quarters, this is not a drill" Cpt. Fitch said.

VIctorsville
As the TCS Stalwart, escorted by the VBS Rhiannedd, heads toward the Victorsville Harbour, Victorsville was preparing to celebrate Maritime Week. This entire week was dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Johannes Marijnen's discovery of the Victorsville area, which would eventually led to the first chapter in the development of Vista Buena. The people of the city, already in a great mood due to the strong and powerful state of the economy this year, was even more happy to hear about the arrival of a foreign navy ship.

Shops everywhere are selling clothes with the city's color, as well as colors of Tolvan, and they are flying off the shelves. People are waiting for the Stalwart to come into the city.

Meanwhile, at the Admiralty
"Admiral Critchley?" Leading Rate Brad Ingley said.

"What is it, Leading Hand?" Admiral Critchley said.

"The Rhiannedd is relaying a message from the Stalwart. The captain of the ship is letting you to come onto the ship for a visit once the Stalwart enters our port." Leading Rate Ingley said.

"Ooh, what a surprise. Thank you. Leading hand." Admiral Critchley said.

"Aye Madam." Leading Rate Ingley said.

Admiral Critchley felt a high sense of honor, as it was the first time she was invited onto a foreign navy ship since her investiture as Navy Admiral. She has been in the Navy (and before Vista Buena's Independence, Domestic Coastal Defence Corps) for 15 years, and she has never been invited onto a foreign naval vessel for a visit. She can barely control her excitement when she made a phone call.

"Patch me through to the Rhiannedd" Admiral Critchley said.

The operator patched Admiral Critchley through to the ship, and was connected to Capitan Jonathan Rentenburg, a 30 year-old, "new generation" captain (promoted post-independence) immediately picked up.

"This is Captain Rentenburg" he said.

"Captain Rentenburg, this is Admiral Jane Critchley. Can you relay this message to the Stalwart? Tell them that I am very honored to visit his vessel once it enters port, and that I would like to bring, along with me, Vice Admiral Hester Pieterse and Rear Admiral Rayson Wee. Please kindly ask the Stalwart if that is OK."

"Aye, ma'am" Captain Rentenburg said.

IC from here on.

At the Admiralty, Admiral Critchley watched the television screens closely as the Rhiannedd and the Stalwart sailed into the harbor. She wanted to be there when the ship docks, so she immediately went to change into her ceremonial outfits.

About 10 minutes later, Admiral Critchley, along with Vice Admiral Hester Pieterse and Rear Admiral Rayson Wee, arrived at the dock where the Stalwart was about to dock. The Lord Mayor of the city, Joshua Pritchard, was also present. Everyone was in a jubilant mood, for this was a great honor for the city during Maritime Week. Finally, the ships docked, and Admiral Critchley said to the crews walking out.

"Welcome to Victorsville, and welcome to Vista Buena!"

Admiral Critchley and the Lord Mayor also shook the hands of each of the ship's crew.

Fitch hated wearing his Dress Greys but this kind of thing came with commanding a cruiser on extended patrol duty. Fitch was joined on deck by several of his officers and a six man Marine honor guard. The Marines were wearing their Class As, but carried fully loaded sidearms in their belt holsters. Fitch didn't expect trouble, but a QRF of six fully armed and armored Marines was standing by in the superstructure.

Fitch approached the Vista Buenan party and offered a crisp salute.

"I'm Captain Eric Fitch, commander of the TCS Stalwart. On behalf of her officers and crew I welcome you aboard."

Fitch lead the way to the Stalwart's wardroom as he spoke.

"The Resolute class is designed for extended patrols well outside of Tolvanic waters. We're often days away from the nearest Tolvanic units and most countries we patrol near are considerably less friendly than yours. For the most part we track RADAR and SONAR contacts, monitor signal traffic, and show the flag. The Stalwart may not be as impressive as a carrier battle group, but she packs enough firepower to destroy the entire navy of some smaller nations."

Upon raching the Wardroom a Marine sentry opened the hatch and Fitch led the way inside and gestured towards the conference table.

"So Admiral, tell me a little about your nation's navy?"

"Our nation's military," said Admiral Critchley "is mainly focused at the present time on coastal surveillance and regional operations. We have 4 carriers, coastline patrollers, nuclear submarines, and destroyers. The navy has 4 major missions: protection of our waters, being a decisive, yet cooperative force during attacks against our nation, be a contributing part of humanitarian missions abroad, and protection of our allies. Our recent economic upsurge has left us with a very big budget, and we are planning on expanding our Navy in large numbers. We are also planning a Navy tour around the world soon."

Fitch listened intently as Admiral Critchley talked about the Vista Buenan Navy. The ship's clerk sat quietly in the corner transcribing the meeting word for word on a lap top computer. Copies of the transcript would be filed i nthe log, given the Vista Buenans, forwarded on to the MoD and Foreign Office and of course Naval Intelligence and the NDI would want copies as well.

Once the Admiral finished Fitch spoke again.

"The Tolvanic Navy is almost as old as the Commonwealth itself. In fact the first telve ships od the fleet were authorised just four days after the first eight provinces ratified the Charter of Formation in 1759. In fact one of those first twelve ships was named the Stalwart, since that time there have been eleven ships to bear that name, as one of the fifteen names on the List of Honour the Navy is required by law to have a vessel named Stalwart in service or in construction at all times. The only time there hasn't been a Stalwart in service in the last 153 years was for the three days it took to rename an under construction vessel when the eighth ship to bear the name was lost in the Second World War.

As Tolvan is an island nation with one of the world's largest merchant fleets a strong Navy is imperative to our very way of life. The Tolvanic Navy is tasked with protecting our Seagoing Lines of Communication (SLOCs), defending our territorial waters, which are quite vast, and projecting power where needed. The navy has seldom taked part in full scale warfare, but actions against pirates and rogue nations are fairly common.

At present the Tolvanic Navy consists of nearly 1,000 ships including support vessels but plans are under way to expand that to as many as 1,250. We operaet virtually every type of ship in the world except battleships, though we have six in reserves. Most of our ships are domestically built though we frequently license designs for construction in our yards. In fact this vessel is a licensed design purchased from Aequatian Military Industries."

"Very interesting." Admiral Critchley said. "We have a sizable fishing and shipping fleet as well, in addition to offshore oil drills and other facilities. Our Navy's mission is to defend these properties of our corporation and citizens, and ensure our citizen's safety. We have traditionally bought our fleets from other arms manufacturers, but we are prepared to build our own ships. So, tell me a little more about your career, Captain Fitch."

I attended the Tolvanic Naval Academy at Northridge and graduated seventh in my class. That was twelve years ago. We purchased production rights for this particular type of vessel from Aequatio a little over eighteen months ago and immediately began work on the Resolute class. If you'd like I can arrange a tour of the vessel for you and your officers."
