Assasination of Supreme Overlord leads to Unctrolled Civil Unrest

Bedroom of the Supreme Overlord
0634 Hours

Waking up from a long night's sleep, the Supreme Overlord, xyhuang, stared up at the roof of his canopy bed. Laced with gold that shined brightly even in the dim dusk sun, it had recently been imported from Shansekia's newest colony, Carilos. The Supreme Overlord smiled. Though his takeover was quite a rumble, Shansekia had enjoyed a massive burst in the economy over the last few months. At this rate, Shansekia would be overflowing in cheap minerals. Not good he remembered, the words of the Minister of Internal Affairs.

No matter. I have all the time I need to take care of things. the Supreme Overlord thought with a smirk. He was only 27, after all.

Minutes later, everything changed.

0638 Hours

"Morning, Quincy," said the Suprme Overlord. "Interesting to see you up early."

"I heard your snoring stop." said the manservant, smiling. "Still haven't gotten that fixed?"

"Nope. The doctor says its not going to get medically hurtful, so the insurance company might not pay for the treatment. Which happen to be special pillows."

"Well, nothing a little political maneuvering can't fix, eh? I assume you want the usual."

"Yep. But have the bacon extra crispy."

Embassy of the Indonesian States Rooftop, Across street from home

"Homeplate, this is Mediocre. Homeplate, this is Mediocre. Requesting mission status update, over." said the man. Cloaked in what looked like a dark swimsuit, he simply lied down, his sniper rifle adjusted to local winds.

"Homeplate to Mediocre. Mission status remains same. Target to be killed at 0640 hours. Over and out." Pssshhzzzzzzz. The signal cut as the assasain put it away. Raising the sniper, he let his sights drift over to the Overlord, preparing to eat breakfast.

Capital Building of the Supreme Overlord
0640 Hours

Sitting quietly and waiting for some toast. Quickly sipping some apple juice, he felt as if someone was watching him. There it goes again, he thought. Irational fear. Calm down. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, brea-

He never finished breathing out.

Shansekian TeleVision Emergency Broadcast
0648 Hours

"...and jump through the ring of...!" said the host speaker.

Pshing!"We interrupt this program," suddenly spoken by Reporter George Lopez, "of 'Who wants to be an immigrant?' to report the latest breaking news."

"At six forty a.m this morning, the Supreme Overlord xyhuang was preparing to eat his customary breakfast of crispy bacon, fresh, cold apple juice, and eggs-cooked sunny-side up-when he was shot by an unknown assailant from across the street at the Indonesian States Embassy rooftop."

"Multiple witnesses conform that the assailant was definite NOT indonesian however."

"The Supreme Overlord was killed by a .40 caliber sniper round, entering through the left frontal lobe and exiting the right Occipital lobe. His death was painless."

"Normally, the Ministers would automatically take over as a Triumvante. However, all three are currently missing and presumed dead. It is currently unknown who will take his place."

"As requested by xyhuang's will, we will ready his prewritten eulogy." The reporter coughed for a moment. "Born on September 13th, 1990, he was born under fetal distress and a Caesarean section was almost..."

Eight Days Later

Chaos reigned as Shansekia, without any form of goverment, went out of control. Gangs controlled the cities, commmiting horrific crimes such as rape and murder. Looting was so common that it was completely normal to see a toddler steal a VCR. Shansekia's army nearly instantly disbanded, and most of the navy did. The Battlegroup stuck in Mhoudia simply stood there, having no idea what was happening. The corporations, attempting to take control, were instead forced to flee to Shansekian colonies, where the provincial goverments had at least their own land under control. As radio stations burned along with other buildings, a group of refugees managed to send out one last signal:

To all who can read this

Shansekia has entered civil unrest. It really isn't civil war as there aren't any large factions, really. Just massive rape gangs and looting toddlers. Please, help us save our nation! Our nation burns to the ground even as we spe-type. Please, come save us! We don't care if you're communist or capitalist or demo--SH*T, one of the gangs is knocking on the door. Please, come!

Official Imperial Decree:

In the rise of chaos in a nation with close relations with the Scandinvna Empire we hereby official place blockade around Shansekia against all imports of arms and other munitions, furthermore any ships entering Shansekia waters shall be placed under Scandinvan Imperial inspection until they are cleared. To note any ships that are either bringing medical or food support to Shansekia shall be searched, though they shall be allowed to enter Shansekia proper if they vow that all of their actions are done to benefit the nation and people of Shansekia.

Concerning Shansekia we have dispatched ten legions, one hundred thousand men, to enter Shansekia, as it has not completely withdrawn from the Confederacy of Scandinvan Protectorates, and it is hereby declared that an Imperial expeditionary mission shall take place in Shansekia into a proper government is restablished in Shansekia.

To note all nations deploying military forces into Shansekia have to either be approved by the Scandinvan Empire or be a member of Confederacy of Scandinvan Protectorates to be able to deploy forces into Shansekia.

(Once) City of Coriler

"So it has begun. How many gangs under our control?" said the hooded, tall man. His husky voice echoed through the silent room.

"Almost all in Coriler. We have a gang in Shansek that just took a radio station as well." said a shorter, less deep-pitched man.

"The capital? This is too easy." said the man, smiling. "One we hold the gangs, we hold the country."

"We're going to need more support. Arms, which it seems the recent Scandinvan blockade is halting." the shorter man said, sipping some coke, which was now worth a woman's life.

"There are 'certain' nations we can count on. I'm sure quite a few would like a military, economical wonder-country we plan for the future as an ally. Transmit a message through that station when we can."

Transmission to All Nations

This is one of the surviving, and probably largest, faction of people on Shansekia. We wish to establish a democratic goverment to replace the old, authoritan one, and advance political and economic freedom. And Scandinvans, please don't respond. It's annoying enough you're still here after we retracted from the Confederacy. You could say it was illegimate, buuut who really cares.

Open Declaration:

His Majesty's Government fully supports the political organisation of Hypernational Crusade for Economic Development in Shansekia. His Majesty offers military and financial support to the organisation and will support entry of Shansekia into the Royal Georgian League once a liberal democracy has been established again. It seems the people of Shansekia have rejected the interference of The Scandinvans government in this internal affair, any membership of the Confederacy of Scandinvan Protectorates has thus been voided with the dissolution of the civil administration into anarchy and chaos. His Majesty's Government proposes a joint venture with our allies and friends of the Questerian Commonwealth, nations of Haven, Continentia and the Mekugian Commonwealth. The 12th Grand Expeditionary Fleet has been put on standby operations for diversion from international patrol duties to support humanitarian relief operations provided by the allied coalition. If requested an airborne division of the Royal Army and an expeditionary air wing of the Royal Air Force to begin preparations and mobilisation orders to deploy to Shansekian territory to restore order to the island.

United Realms of the Hamptonian Empire

An Open Notice to the People of Shansekia and the World,

Her Majesty's Federal Government condemns in the strongest possible terms the Scandivnan blockade of Shansekia. The Shansekians have left the Confederacy of Scandinvan Protectorates and so the Scandivnan lacks any possible authority to declare Shansekia's borders closed to foreign nations. The United Realms fully supports and recognizes the legitimacy of the Hypernational Crusade for Economic Development. Royal Navy assets in the region, both military and humanitarian, have been placed on alert. We shall assist the Shansekian people in reestablishing order and reforming a free and democratic government. President Holden Reid overlooked the reports coming from the now-incredibly troubled nation of Shansekia as it descended into utter anarchy with the effective removal of its national leadership. "The Scandinvans will prove to be a troublesome force to deal with especially since they feel they have a righteous justification," He thought to himself before he started to draft his statement.

Statement from the Office of the Aequatian President

http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/uploads/aequatio.jpg

To Emperor Olaf V of the Scandivnan Empire,

It has come to my attention that your nation is seeking to impose its will against another sovereign nation and that you also feel justified in your righteous actions because of a now defunct treaty. At this point in time, the Aequatian Republic recognizes the Hypernational Crusade for Economic Development as the nation's highest authority and thus, their call for aid and support is what we will answer.

Do not resist and halt your operations, for your mandate is false, Olaf, let those who would see democracy flourish from the ashes help this nation grow and leave your archaic methods dead to the page of history. This is your only warning.

Signed,

Holden Reid,
President of Aequatio.

The Repubic's armed forces, already working in their tireless efforts for several operations around the world, continued to do so as they prepared to launch their humanitarian operation to Shansekia, despite the Scandivnan presence still within the theatre of operations. The interest of other nations into the development of the troubled nation would make the effort less of a burden on each individual state, and the Aequatians hoped to communicate with those nations concerning the concerning the coming mission.

The 168th Airborne Division stationed at Fort Aldershot near Valais, Aequatius Secundus had been called to quick-deploy from their base along with two battalions of M59 Russ light tanks. The haste in which the operation had been planned, they would be parachuting to the South of the city of Coriler to secure a number of civilian airstrips and a military airfield, all abandoned in the ensuing chaos, which would be used as both forward bases and resupply zones for allied efforts. Once prepared, the division's elements were airborne aboard the Air Force C-181A Starlifter II transports and en route to Shansekia, soon to be joining. Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Baker, one of the commanding officers for an infantry battalion, sat aboard one of the aircraft as it set its course towards the troubled nation. His battalion, like those of the division's first brigade, would be securing the airfields for use by both the remainder of the division and the units of the 166th Light Infantry Division and the allied forces, including the Hamptonians, that would be coming inland as operations commenced.

"Very Good, tell me when its on station"
The captain turned around to the holographic plot table that displayed the status of all the ships myriad systems, most of which were now flashing green. The 34" and 11" guns were all showing green with markers displaying the fact that they were loaded with AP-ER projectiles, ready to take on any battleships that might attempt to stop the charge. The Mark II, III, IV and VI 57mm cannon were standing by, as were the massive battery of 135mm guns.
The Point defence interceptors were hot and ready to launch, pilots already in the cockpits and launcher rockets already primed. The Depth Mortars and ASHUM batteries were armed and manned, as were the SAM control consoles, the ship was ready for war.

"Tanker on station, all escorts answering flank speed!"
"Deploy secondary propulsion system and engage flank speed, straight to Coriler, god save any who try to stop us!"

The ships accelerated to flank speed and headed straight for there destination, the commadner hoped that whatever god the Scandinavans worshipped would show mercy on them, for he would not, fully aware he may just have started a massive war.

Imperial Decree:

Regarding the nation of Shansekia,

I, as Emperor of the Scandinvan Empire, have only declared the blockade to prevent any shipments of arms to Shansekia as we do have reasonable doubt in the new government, and more so towards the anarchy which currently reigns over the nation of Shansekia. Though to note we also, out of concern for the weakened state of Shansekia, seek to actively prevent any signal force of persons from invading Shansekia. Yet, in light of the growing international coalition of nations we will lift the blockade against foreign military ships, save those that have already commited acts of violence against Shansekia, and shall not prevent any non-hostile forces from breaking the blockade. Though to note we still shall do inspections of ships, that do not belong to charity organizations, in order to check them for arms.

To state if the entirity of the nations, that we deem, acting in the favor of establishing a peaceful and orderly nation in Shansekia then we shall take down our Empire's blockade.

The fighting in the area had subsided a little, thankfully. The roving gangs of people, either attempting to fill the power vacuum with the death of Xyhuang or simply trying to survive--or, even more simply and more commonly, just getting what they wanted, which more often than not involved looting and kidnapping. At least the rampage had moved on, for the most part, which meant Bei Shoumu--known here as Kong Tiaobi--could finally get down to business without checking over her shoulder every half-minute.
+++While she was setting up her satellite radio transceiver in the basement of the abandoned house, she reflected upon her situation. She had, despite her furious devotion to success, been relegated mostly desk work, and then to backwater to backwater when she became too ambitious in Jeuna. Assigned to this country that was now in what looked like its death throes because she was the least Asian-looking available, and because she had been in the way, she had sat in stir for the better part of a year, gathering information and invaluable contacts. Now, irony of ironies, she was in the hot zone of a war which the Jeunese government had suddenly taken interest in. She knew the reasons, and full well agreed with them, but it was too amusing not to think of, despite the fact that she would never hold it over her superiors like a carrot.
+++With the last wires connected and the antennae set up and angled to hit the next flyover of the communications satellite, Shoumu punched the red power button on the front of the box-heater-sized apparatus, and tapped her headset mic to test it. When the input indicator LEDs registered, she triggered the connection, and began transmitting.
+++"Tengchao, this is Xiaotiane, please respond."
+++"Xiaotiane, this is Tengchao, we hear you speaking clearly. Report."
+++"The situation here is bad. The security forces have dissolved without their leaders; I believe there to be a main cadre of Army soldiers who have consolidated themselves, but I do not at this time know who leads them. The civilians are taking everything that they can, and are rarely staying in one area. I have been forced to keep moving, therefore; my chances to gather data have insofar been few and distantly-spaced. At my next broadcast, I will relay follow-ups on my leads."

“When there's blood on the streets, buy property."
-Baron de Rothschild

Never had this motto been more followed or adopted than by the Global Tetrahedron, Incorporated. Indeed, the OmniCorp of Ennuisia had a petty cash account the size of most nation’s GDPs, and assets in the tens of trillions. The “investment-grade thieves, liars, vultures, and swindlers,” as Chief Economic Advisor Alexander Ioan once complemented, the angry money-producing machinery of the corporation had made designs on the nation of Shansekia. Five of the corporation’s largest cargo ships left the ports of Ville de Dieu on a… ahem… “humanitarian mission”, flying the Spizanian flag, though the lead two flew the flag of Hamptonshire. They were weighed down with petroleum distillate, food, and clothing; if you believed the manifests. One more was a floatable nuclear generator, while a seventh was a hospital ship, purchased to generate goodwill, and for over-seas interests.

In practice, the first few meters of cargo were in fact, what the manifests read. The remaining containers, however, were filled nearly to the brim with military-grade weaponry: two tons of “Black Irish” high explosive packed behind water jugs; non-degradable plastic crates filled with star streaks and javelins bobbed in the oil tanks, and the food covered enough ammunition to supply a brigade. They’d dump the contraband as soon as possible, driving down land values even lower. Even more impressive were the eight-hundred GTI security personnel, almost all ex-military. Their orders were to purchase as much under-valued property as possible. To enable this, the ships carried a total of 240 attache cases. Each held $2.5 million Denarii. That was a lot of property in compact form.

And so the flotilla steamed ahead into oblivion, to break the blockade for untold riches.

12th Grand Expeditionary Battlefleet 'Thors' 250 km's from Shansekian Waters

The standard Clandonian battlefleet roared through the waters, the force assembled from the strategic and economic power of the Crown. From orders from Fleet HQ, the Admiralty and the Foreign Office the emergency orders to prepare for battle and prepare landing operations of Clandonian Royal Marine Commandoes from the Pheasant Class CVLN's. Fleet Air Arm ACI-73n Aquila's were being fuelled and armed with anti-shipping munitions encase they were required to breakthrough the Scandinvansian naval blockade. On the larger capital ships, the Royal Sovereigns, Avenges, Cheshires and Victorious VLS batteries and gun systems were fired up and targets identified from a RADAR N.R.S that had been fired up from the launch pad in the Richmondshire Desert less than an hour ago. Broadsword anti-air battlecruisers loaded the T-18 'King Henry' nuclear air to air missiles, prepared to shoot down any heavy anti-shipping weaponry or large waves of combat aircraft launched from the mainland or the blockading fleet.

"All hands, prepare for red alert."

Came the reply over the ships communication system, klaxon's whooped into action as the battleships of the fleet swung their guns over to face the Scandinvans blockade. Royal Marine companies were disembarking from the carrier lifts, bergans and DR-83 II's loaded for the trip ashore. A full expeditionary force of 2000 marines with a further 1200 in reserve was loading up onto the TRA-92N "Eiko" Light Attack Helicopter and TRU-94 "Rekishichizu" (Atlas) Multirole Heavy Lift Platform transports, ACI-39 Bellicus were providing gunship support.

Into the sky shot the Aquilas from the fleet carriers to defend the Marines who were on their way, upon communication from they would not be stopped. The Scandinvans would not stop the liberation and order bringing of a country, certainly not a moderate naval power like the Imperial Crown Kingdom.

"Alright lads, this is it make landing in Lettica. Alpha and Bravo will make rendezvous and secure the beachhead. I will and Zulu team with the gunships will secure the docks." Shouted the burly Sergeant as the rotorblades and air intakes roared into life.

"All birds, green light is go."

Replied the tower controller as the deck hands waved the transports into the air. Heading for the beachhead the one hundred or so aircraft lifted off heading for the beach. Covered by the guns and missiles of the Royal Navy and protected in the air by the Fleet Air Arm. In the Pheasant CVLN's amphibious holds hovercraft and landing rafts were lowered into the water containing the Phallanx battle tanks and Range Rover transports. The Fleet sailed nearer, although the Fleet Air Arm could fly ride into battle on their short take off aircraft and helicopters the amphibious vessels had to nearer in range due to the heavy equipment they were carrying.

Third Skyian Naval Fleet, 1000km out from the Scandivnan Blockade Zone
SRNS Silver, Hyperion-Class Assault Dreadnought

The SRNS Silver was part of the large force that would make landfall at Xoranth, the massive ship was truly a sight to see when moving at even cruise speed. Surrounding it was dozens of escort vessels, from the Maddox-Class Strike Cruise to the Amner-Class Guided Missile Frigate to keep the ship safe from airborne and undersea threats.

They were the spearhead of the force that would break through the Scandivnan blockade, behind them were hundreds of troop transports and civilian supply ships filled with weapons as well as food and medical supplies. Another corp of troops was preparing to be flown in from Skyian Territories by uprated versions of the C-94B [TRU-94] Atlas Multirole Heavy Lift Platform transports and other larger transports.

Only time would tell if the force could move in bloodlessly or that the blood of Scandivnans would slick the surface of the ocean.

"Only two cities, or forts I should say, not under control."

"Damn. They're vital chokepoints on the west coast's shipping lanes. Looks like will have to resort to other mearures. How are the other cities?"

"Coriler and Shansek are ours. However, the Xoranth and its ports are still in total anarchy. Meanwhile, most of the gangs in our cities are no longer considering themselves gangs. They're 'civilizing', you could say."

"Good. How about outside powers?"

"Multiple nations have condemed or shown discontent of the Scandinvan blockade. I really don't get it. A little inconvience, but they can easily ship by airlift. Anyway, we have no idea what they're planning."

"Really?" said the hooded man, a small tone of annoyance in his voice. "I was hoping for some straightforward support. Very well then. Make sure our grip on Shansek and Coriler hold. See if we can get some repairs growing. As for Xoranth...too risky. We'll hold off for now."

"We've secured the city, sir. Gangsters have either been forced to join the new army or killed." said the assistant, a cellphone and papers in hand.

"Good." said the general. "Starting with this fort, we should be able to consolidate the old goverment back," he said cheerfully. After this, I'm going to have to get some fast food.

"Well...there's the fact the 'HCED' has already got quite some support. They hold about 60% of Shansekia's population, anyway."

"I've noticed." said the general with a grim tone, his smile turning into a frown.
"Those democrats...we probably have a better-organized army, but now's not the time to attack. We don't even have Pyrus."

The general thought about it. "Acutally, send a few torpedo boats to Pyrus's port and shoot down any resistance."

Shansekian Theatre of Operations

Ahead of the convoy of C-181A Starlifter II transports was a squadron of a dozen B-12D Vanquisher bombers equipped with AGM-200A+ Typhoon anti-shipping missiles should they have to deal with the Scandinvanian blockade in order to let the airlifters through to deliver the paratroopers of the 168th Division. Lieutenant-Colonel Baker, like the rest of the airborne soldiers, waited anxiously as they approached the blockade zone and cradled their weapons. They were used to operations against enemy soldiers, not roving gangs of armed civilians, and some of the younger men and women, enlisted and officer, were uneasy about the prospect of having to kill someone their own age.

Although they would not yet be operating within the city of Coriler, reports from the intelligence personnel had placed a good number of militias based around the airfields they were to secure. The fight would not be long, considering the lack of training and organization civilian militias contained, but it would be hard as these were people defending their homeland against foreign soldiers, despite the fact that they, like the other allied nations, were present to help those in Shansekia. For now, however, they waited as the other allies continued their operations.

I cleared this with Shans already, so don't go shouting godmod.]

300th Paratroop Brigade

The emergency reaction brigade, one of three deployed to Shansekia, came in low over the northwest of the country. Flying low under radar, the paratroopers of the Questarian Light Infantry were trained to parachute out at heights of as low as 500 feet, barely opening their chutes before touching the ground. For the time being, the planes flew right under radar, but as they flew up from the coast, the Westland Whippets activated their ECM defences and pulled up hard to six hundred feet. The farmers in the North West of Shansekia could see in the early morning lights the massive waves of paratroopers flooding the skies momentarily after the contra rotating propellers, the loudest type of propeller available to an aircraft, had woken them from their slumber.

Over eighteen thousand troops were put onto the ground within the first day of anarchy breaking out, spreading out and securing a perimeter to which civilians were invited. Engineers began to construct a primitive airfield so that larger reinforcements could be brought in, but it would take time. Meanwhile, squads of the paratroopers were assigned to "hearts and minds" operations, touring round farms and giving assurance they were only there temporarily, handing out supplies and such to local farmers. The most was being brought in before the Scandinvan ships could arrive, and another six brigades of more prepared troops were paradropped in the third day, bringing the total number of Questarian troops in the region to 54,000.

Meanwhile the Questarian Government published the land it was claiming under its mandate, called "Questarian North West Shansekia." While the seaspace was not yet to be locked off, the Questarian forces warned that any foreign (non Clandonian) troops who weren't flying the white flag or aircraft flying into the airspace published would be shot down. H.M Government gave its assurances that this move was only temporary, and all land would be handed back to the Shansekian people after order was restored.

Back in Questers, larger planes were being prepared with engineer vehicles to enhance the speed at which an airport could be created, and helicopters could be brought in. It was estimated within a week the arrival of helicopters and the setup of a decent airstrip could facilitate an advance. As it was, Questarian troops sat tight in their defensive perimeter, weapons at the ready. A navla task force with two aircraft carriers was still 4,000 kilometres away and was undergoing refueling and replenishment operations, and so was still five days away, but would be on station as soon as possible to provide fire support.

Outskirts of Lettica

The main Royal Marine force had secured the beachhead and equipment had been brought ashore with the Royal Navy just in visual range offshore, less than forty miles offshore. The marines had cleared an area just above the beach allowing helicopter and the Atlas transports to land safely bringing down ammunition and equipment. A force of two hundred marines had gone off in the direction of the islands airport to investigate the area and allow heavy cargo flights to commence from Clandonia, the Questerians had been in communication and allowed the Royal Air Force landing rights but with the situation so hectic another airstrip was vital for the strategic airlift effort. The marines had disembarked mostly by road in armoured assault, D24A3 'Howler' IFV and armoured Range Rovers had approached the airport along with gunship support from the carriers, ACI-39 Bellicus providing fearsome firepower.

Meanwhile the main force had taken the Phalanx MBT's and Howler IFV's to approach the main city, a rumoured fortress under the control of local communist forces which had restored some sort of normality and order. The Marine commander was concerned, should he order his troops into the city and they be killed he was without reserves and would be forced to call upon the support of either naval gunfire or the Fleet Air Arm. The D24A5 'Herald' UCV (Unit Command Vehicle) on the beach was the temporary command centre, from there the landing operations were run and the expeditionary teams coordinated. Constantly the skies were scanned by portable radar systems linked to the D24A2 KREIG LAAV (Light Anti-Air Vehicle) and MACT.XI anti-aircraft guns. Armourers were unloading the boxes of Doomani weapons used by the Clandonian armed forces, huge crates filled with LAC-3 Pilum Disposable Anti-Tank Weapons, AAT.X Acer MANPADS, DMG-83 SAW's. Officers were attaching their pistol holsters, chosen by choice of a TDX .40 or a Pwnage Ordnance L-23A2 sidearm depending on their personal preference. Marines sharp shooters were zeroing their DRS-83 DMR's onto the sand dunes, ready for battle a full Royal Marine Expeditionary Force was to secure the island and the city of Lettica upon the orders of the Crown. The naval fleet maintained its position offshore. TRA-92 "Eiko" Light Attack Helicopter's scouted overhead stirring up the sand as they proceeded to the city to investigate and try and find someone who was in charge.

Unlike the Questerians the Clandonians were not planning to take over the land for the short term but to offer assistance until a state or federal administration was re-established that would be similarly aligned. Back in Clandonia large Sabre aircraft and King Sarius I were being loaded with relief supplies, food, materials along with military supplies of more ammunition, vehicles, aircraft and equipment. More troops from the 16th Air Assault Division, the countries 48 hour ready troops were on their way, expected to be parachuting via Sabres that kept a permanent rotating duty in low Earth orbit for situations like this.

"Sir," said the assistant, this time with only a radio in hand, "We've detected landings on the beaches to the west. Clandonian, we believe."

"WHAT??!" the general shouted. The assitant ducked for a moment. Normally, that wasn't good. "How? Damn those HCED capitalists...what kind of forces?"

"No-o-o-ooo idea, sir," shuddered the assistant, getting off the floor. "Our radar was damaged during the tumlt. We're lucky enough to get a report from someone who happened to be camping..."

"CAMPING?!?!" screamed the general. Today's not a good day. thought the assistant. "WHAT THE FU...forget it. He may've broken the order to stay inside, but we wouldn't know about this without it...grant him reprieve. What to do, what to do..." the general started pacing, now looking more thoughtful then angry.

"Do we have Pyrus yet?" he asked.

"No sir. The torpedo boats found no resistance, but it seems like no order at all. All we found out is the gangs no longer rape and kill for fun, they do it now to try and occupy the city."

"Damn, could've been a retreat point to the mainland. Oh well...at least HCED won't have it." The general sighed. At this rate, the dictatorship would never be reinstated soon.

Bernard Thibodeau sat in a plush, overstuffed leather chair in his office, 1 Tetrahedron Way, Mer de Noms, on the 97th floor. A large map of the region filled the TV array, along with vital statistics on each of the ships. A map of the nation of Shansekia indicated that Questarians were preparing to seize the land south of Xoranth, and this presented a chance for a quick buck.

Risk management teams, along with foreign policy analysts, had just handed him a report, which strongly indicated that the Scandinavian blockade was not in full effect yet, or that it was not activley being enforced, and Commodore Matthew Biancovitch aboard the "GTI Little Giant" Capesize carrier wanted to steam into port as soon as possible.

The best analysts employed at GTI, Inc. believed that Xoranth was ripe for the picking; the city was in chaos already, and dumping tons of weaponry on the streets would only make matters worse. There was a good chance that the rebels might even attack Questarian positions, provoking them into action. When the Questarians, or any other nation, started to advance on the city, GTI security forces, which, as those same analysts said would need to increase in number, would activate, whipe out resistance as brutally as possible, and roll out the red carpet for the occupiers, ensuring maximum ROI. He had just stamped his mark of approval on the latest battle plan, and watched the screen intently.

As the ships changed course for the port city, he smiled. The investors will love this he thought wickedly.

Coriler Stabilization and Protection Force Command, Camp Palmers [formerly Coriler International Airport]
Hamptonian Imperial Forces - Shansekia

It seemed like it was ages since the Royal Armed Forces last deployed to a troubled nation to restore order, but it was not even a year from the deployment to British Londinium. Secretaries of State and their subordinates put roughly the same contingency plans into action. Hamptonians were to arrive en force in the Coriler region, make contact with the locals, and try to bring some sort of normalcy back to the peoples' lives. Newly promoted Field General Heather Vogel, veteran of the Londinium campaign, was to lead the fifty-thousand strong CSPF/HIF-S. Her mission was to work with the HCED to put down any remaining gangs and pave the way toward the establishment of free and democratic government.

Aequatian and Spizanian forces were the first into Coriler, once they established it was safe the first planeloads of Royal Marines and RMCC* personnel began to arrive at airports and fields around the city. Cargo planes delivered military supplies to the new command as well as food and water to be distributed to civilians. It was absolutely imperative that at every step Shansekians were not threatened by the foreign military presence in their homeland. That first day, Field General Vogel got as many of the eight-thousand soldiers she had out on the streets to meet with and reassure local community leaders.

Over the next few days personnel arriving via airport would be complemented by paratroopers forming "Stabilization Zones" in remote areas of the region. It would be over a week until the force would be at its full strength and properly covered by Hamptonian air and naval assets. Intelligence and reports from the ground made it clear that Hamptonians were unlikely to find any trouble in Coriler. However, with active allies in the west facing possible rebel resistance non-CSPF elements of the HIF-S, such as Royal Army air assault brigades, might find themselves in the line of fire.

On the Streets of Coriler

"Mommy," said one of the toddlers, who had stopped stealing VCRs. "look! More armed gangsters!"

"No honey," said the lady, smiling. A widow, she had met a nice soldier a few minutes ago. "they're here to help us. Now, where'd you get the VCR from again?"

HCED Command, originally Shansekia Aeronautics Comapny HQ

"No reports of violence?" said the hooded man.

"No, sir. The soldiers are doing as promised:securing the city. They rounded up a roving gang of teens, by the way."

"Nice..." said the man, a tone of respect in his voice. "Ok then, try opening lines of communication with them. Send someone to fetch their highest commander, now!

"Yes sir," the messenger said, scurrying away. Maybe he would get to live to see a democratic Shansekia after all.

At the eastern end of Huanmao, capital of the Republic of Jeuna and arguably the economic hub of the country, the Government Mall was laid out in perfectly-ordered geometric shapes, stretching out toward the noveau art monument, shaped like a spiral, quickly becoming sharply-inclined as it continued upward from the ground. Upon both sides of the monument were carved the stylized Chinese numerals "三七"—'37, commemorating the Unilateral Declaration of Independence from China. Before it stretched an enormous and perfectly clear oval-shaped artificial lake, and carefully-manicured lawns criss-crossed with cut flagstone paths in straight, right-angled lines outlined by shrubberies and with carefully-sited miniature groves of small maple trees, flanked on both sides by glistening-white government office buildings. At the end of the Mall was the colonial-styled Presidential House, and to the left the mammoth complex that was both the Ministry of Federal Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
+++The building was thirty stories tall, presenting a modernist façade to Weipiao North Road, and had always played host to both Ministries, although public outcry promised to change that soon enough. For the moment, however, things remained the same: the Ministry of Federal Defense was located in the North Wing and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in the South. Beneath the labyrinthine tangle of cubicles and conference rooms and offices of executives, middle managers and project supervisors, beneath the data collection rooms with their coolant piping and constant dull whirr of Xidadizi high-performance computers and servers, dim and vaguely illuminated by the blue-white readouts on the screens, beneath the government parking garages with their sleek luxury sedans, and still further beneath the gigantic library-like data storage rooms that held all the information of a hundred twenty thousand people that a government and corporation both would pay dearly for, along with data on most, if not all, of the world's governments and their doings, were the armored and electronically-sealed crisis management rooms, whose walls were covered in enormous plasma monitors with the latest updates on not only what disaster was happening at the present moment but what had happened previously in the area of interest and projections of what might happen in the future, shown visually as several strings of plausible events.
+++President Fan Banou, who had grown up just seven miles south of the capital in the port city of Tieshan, was in one such expanse, watching the screens which showed the situation in Shansekia as far as the data available to them indicated. In his hand was a phone receiver, connected to the desk at which a communications officer sat, who was at the moment trying to seem very, very busy. The receiver belonged to a satellite radio transceiver, feeding data through an embedded encryption/decryption suite and transmitting to a satellite over Shansekia by means of one of the swarm of dishes that occupied the roof of 18 Weipiao North Rd, which bounced the signal down to "Xiaotiane".
+++"Very good. Stay where you are at the moment—we have forces en route, and we'd like them to land in friendly territory, preferably with a guide, as well." Fan paused, and watched the updated icons of the foreign armed forces flash. "Transmission cut." He replaced the receiver in its cradle, and smiled as he turned around, facing the Armed Forces Chiefs who had been standing behind him with their arms folded. Air Marshal (空上將) Tai Guangling (邰廣靈), Chief of the Air Force Staff (空軍員的院長), looked up at the icons indicating "his" unit, the 78th Airmobile Infantry Division, which he had personally shepherded into existence, and nodded in personal satisfaction. The transports were reaching the middle of the stratosphere.

Freefall

"THIRTY SECONDS!" yelled the company officer from the rear of the cargo compartment. He could scarcely be heard over the din of the engines and the rush of the thin air.
+++"THIRTY SECONDS!" was the chorus returned to him from his troops.
+++"CLIP!"
+++The lead paratrooper at the back of the bay, directly in front of the massive rear door and staring through his helmet's visor at the open, black expanse, attached his line to the long wire, running from the front of the bay to the back. The XO moved along the line from the rear, checking the connections and making sure everyone was holding their shit right. When the LED to the trooper's right changed, he was suddenly aware of it, and took a shaky breath, bracing himself. Yellow—green! The commander clapped him on the shoulder and steadied him. Three seconds later: "GO, GO, GO!" As the troopers passed the commander, another man grabbed their lifelines, holding them in a growing clump. Briefly, the commander touched each of the men on their shoulder, mentally counting them. They jumped off the ramp into the nothingness, and began their descent from thirty klicks up.

"So how's Pyrus?" asked the general.

"Fine," said the messenger, "though we have trouble getting a hold of all of them, the gangs have mostly fallen apart."

"Good...how about the Clandonians?"

"Nothing sir, nothing at all. We've lost sight of them."

"Thought so." said the general sadly. "Well, move the troops to the walls and keep them warmed up and armed. Set sleeping shifts."

"Yes sir," said the messenger, walking out this time. He was getting tired of this job.

Brigadier-General Harold Treyson's headquarters had already been established in a sports hall on the outskirts of the key port of Pyrus. His 5,000 paratroops were equipped with tanks, artillery and wholly inappropriate woodland camoflauge.

"What-ho?" The Brigadier-General smiled at the latest patrol Captain to walk into his commandeered office, bowing his head to stop the top of the door frame catching on the synthetic foliage attached to his helmet.

"The city appears friendly, General. Extended patrols report that the port itself is under the control of HCED irregulars," the Captain reported after exchanging salutes.

The General added another pin to his campaign map - a looted tourist information pamphlet. "The city is now completed surrounded. We will enter tomorrow. In a week the 12th Escort Group will arrive with a light carrier and assorted escorts. In ten days a full Battlegroup will arrive with a force of 50,000 marines. And then," the General smiled, "we have won."

The Captain saluted. "Sir."

"At least, until we begin to move into the countryside, which may or may not be under friendly control. The following area has been placed under the Crown's protection," the General continued, laying a map (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/Praetonia/s5h8j90hr.png) on the table. "Dismissed."

Pyrus's citzens and famers watched Praetonian troops surround Pyrus as well as the Lettican communists' torpedo boats swarm the bay. "The commies still believe we're under the control of gangs, right?" sayed the hooded man, a wide grin spread across his face. Five days ago, he had riden a horse-drawn cart all the way from Coriler to Lettica. When he had arrived, he had made everyone who lived on the coast burn fires and scream as if their was no control.

"Yes sir," replied his advisor, listening to the radio. "or they would've communicated to us with threats already. As for the Praetonians..."

"They should be on our side...but who knows." shrugged the man. "It is of no matter. If they attack, we will fall into the fallout shelters. Just to be safe, spread our troops across the city's land border."

Newly elected President Pro Tempore, Arnold Fukuda, stared out his newly-repaired window into the grimy streets of Shansek. Though not hit as badly as Coriler or Xoranth, the city, being so big, was proportionally hit hard. Construction crews made up of all local, able men 18-28 were working in 10-hour shifts to repair the damage, but it would still take months to repair the many apartments, malls, and utilities damaged by looters and fires.

"Sir!" shouted a jovial voice. The president swivled around, identified the man, and smiled. The messenger who's been working for me...must've been hard on him, and he still smiles... he thought. "Yes?"

"We've got word from the construction crews. Seems like that nuclear power plant leak wasn't big enough to cause any damage. The crack is sealed, and only as much radiation as a banana has escaped."

"Good," smirked the president. He had been worrying whether or not he would have power up again. "Got any word on that message from the Praetonians?"

"Oh, sir, about that..." The messenger's face turned to a frown. He had been hoping he wouldn't have to deliver this himself. "We decrypted it. Here's a paper copy." Pulling a piece of paper sticking out of his old, leathery briefcase stuffed with papers, he slid it across the table for the president to read.

Quickly, Arnold's face fell to a frown, his eyes as big as an insurance agent about to fraud somebody. "...following division of Shansekia..." muttered the president, only a few words discernible. "...facilitate redevelopment..." The president's lower jaw litterally dropped as he glanced at the map. "This...this is no redevelopment plan! This is..."

"Occupication?" the messenger cut in. "Well, we are in no position to bargain, are we..."

"No," sighed the president, dropping into his chair and letting the paper drift onto his desk. Mutliple wrinkles were becoming cleary visibile over his stressed face. "All this work...the assasination, the planning, the take-over...all GONE!!!" The president slammed his fist on his desk, his face contoured in sudden rage, and the messenger jumped back in fright. I KNEW this was going to happen!he thought fearfully.

"Fuc..." the president began.

"Sir, kids waiting to talk to you have been outside." piped in the messenger in a squeaky voice.

"Whoops."

From the Office of the Shansekian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Our President Pro Tempore, Arnold Fukada, would like to issue the following statement:

PENIS (Proclomation for a Economicaly and Nationaly Independent Shansekia)

The PENIS hereby states that:

I) Shansekia has been a sovereign nation for the past twenty-one years, and the entrance of Questerian, Clandonian, Praetonian, Scandinvanavian, and other foreign militaries was with the implied intent of securing Shansekia from civil unrest and war, which has now concluded.

II) Shansekia's government is now fully capable of managing the nation, and no longer requires the military aid of foreign nations in controlling its population and gangs.

III) Therefore, Shansekia hereby condemns the current, continued Questerian, Clandonian, and Praetonian deployments in Shansekia, which veil their attempts at holding Shansekian lands and using it for their own good.

IV) Shansekia hereby requests the immediate withdrawl of the previously-named nations, and, if aiding Shansekia is still wished, sending aid on trade ships and the like.

V) Shansekia notes that the name of this proclomation was simply a joke played by our humorous president, and was not intended to offend any previously-named nations.

Signed,
Minister Hiroshi Yamauchi of Foreign Affairs

P.S. No, there's no camera with broadband internet on this letter to record your face.

"I just LOVE what you come up with, man!" exlaimed the president, almost literally falling on the floor. "PEEENIS!" shouted the president, loud enough for those on the street to hear. A few bewildered parents could be seen covering their children's ears and running off. "PENIS!!!" HAHAHHAHA!"

After a few minutes, the president got up and calmed down a little bit, with a jug of bitter tea. "Well, the people took it well, though they never heard the actual proclomation's name...anyway, are our people ready?"

"Yes, sir," said the smirking messenger who had come up with the acronym, now his Chief Advisor. "The people, many of whom happened to have guns pre-civil war anyway, are quite ready. There are rumors of homemade flamethrowers using oil, lubricant, and the like. Meanwhile, the two remaining battleships from pre-war have been fully rearmed, mostly by voluntary company donations, and are ready to put up a suicidal fight. One will protect Coriler and the other will be out on sea, searching for enemy ships."

"Good. However, remind everyone discretely that there is a slim chance we will actually free ourselves peacefully..." noted the president, spinning around gleefuly in his leather chair. It would most likely be the best entertainment he would get for a while.
