Soviet production plant at Zhernov today reports that 50% of the next batch of MiG-31M Foxhounds for the Frontal Aviation have been produced. Within the next four months the number of MiG-31Ms in the VVS-FA will triple from 30 to 90. A Soviet Air Force spokesman said this is a bid to increase the power of the Soviet Air Forces in their ability to mantain control of a battlefield's airspace.

Furthermore, a Naval Aviation (AVMF) spokesman said the Navy was working closely with the Air Force and would be handing over thirty of its Tu-16s, designated BADGER by Capitalists, to the Smolny Aviation Plant to be converted to Tu-16Ns, where they would be then transferred to Frontal Aviation as tanker units.

Zhernov Aviation Plant reports problems with her production gear, and MiG-31M batch will be delayed. Out of production run of 60 aircraft, 42 are completed, but problems in avionics and engine construction are running production to a halt. Zhernov Aviation estimates an extra three weeks to finish the production run.

Meanwhile, Tu-16N modifications are on track and will be finished by the end of the month at the huge multi-engine plant at Smolny.

Zhernov Plant reports MiG-31M production queues complete and work is now being done on Su-27S planes for similar roles as MiG-31M. Soviet Aviation Spokesmen say that the Su-27 and MiG-31 are for two different, but neccessary roles in air combat. "The -27 is more of a close combat orientated aircraft. The MiG-31M is our long range fighter vehicle."

Smolny Plant has completed Tu-16N transfer process and Frontal Aviation is now equipped with 30 more tankers.
