///System Overload///
"I'm tellin' you man, this'll rock your world like nothing else!" said a young man with jet black hair.
"I don't know, Jak" replied is obviously nervous friend who held the plug by his fingertips and examined it.
"You already got the connector man, you just need to connect, Tom." Jak said, leaning in. Tom reached around to the back of his neck at the base where there is an attachment, mesh with the skin with a small hole designed for a plug. "It's a whole new experience. Everyone's connecting to The Frame. Everything you can ever imagine is at your control. Your memory increases. I haven't studied for a damn exam ever since I got it, that's why I get those grades."
"You sure, Jak?" Tom asked, feeling the plug in the back of his neck. His parents were nervous about letting him get a connector for The Frame.
"It's too late to turn back, the world's looking forward, not backward. We're advancing everday. Soon, we will be The Frame. The line between man and machine will blur forever, just try it" Jak smiled and took the plug from Tom which the other end was attached to the computer. "Just relax".
The plug entered the back of his neck, it felt weird and cold. But soon, a warm sensation spread from the plug and encumbaced his whole body, it was an out of body experience and his head dipped down.
"I'm...I'm merging with The Frame!" Tom replied, feeling the rush of information and data, streaming across The Frame. Endless volumes of information. The Frame is descended from the long obsolete Internet. With advances in technology, mankind can connect directly thanks to cybernetics. he streamed through the data line.
Suddenly, something felt strange. A glitch, slight and almost unnoticeable at first. A red light flashed on the screen. Tom was weightless in the Cyberworld, light cubes surrounding him, he reached for one which suddenly began spinning and halted, turning red.
"Didn't they ever teach you about peer pressure?" asked a young woman, her voice omnipresent.
"What do you mean?" Tom asked, "You are you?"
"I am the cure for the virus..."
"What virus?"
"The human virus...we are not what was meant to be, we are a corruption of the original software. A corruption that has spread and destroyed so much that it must be stopped." the voice continued, "I am here to cleanse the system, reboot the system...starting now"
A shockwave of pain surged through his body as the young boy screamed and cringed. Back in reality he fell from the chair and impacted the ground. Jak stood up, startled. The others in the cyber cafe looked bewildered. The pulse continued through his body, short circuiting the connector, sparks flying from the computer. Jak reached down and pulled out the plug which was red hot and casted it to the side. There was a moment of silence as others gathered around. One of the operators for the cafe picked up a phone and began to dial for medical services.
"Tom, are you okay?" Jak laid a hand on his friend's shoulder. There was no reply. Unexpectadly, Tom stood up, his eyes blank, almost black. "You alright?"
"I am fine" Tom replied devoid of emotion, almost like a machine of sorts. He shot an arm out which wrapped around Jaks neck and lifted him up into the air, his feet dangling. The grip tightened and tightened till there was an audible snap and he casted the limp rag doll to the ground. There was a horrified scream from the crowd and they scattered, rushing out of the door, jamming it up. Tom, or whatever was left of him began to rampage through the cafe, smashing computer screens, ripping out hard drives, tearing cords from the walls, pounding his fist into the walls.
A young girl hid under the counter, a new worker who served beverages and snacks at the bar. Tom turned his attention to her and grabbed her, he muffled her screams...
