THE ANTI-WHALING LEAGUE

The United Kingdoms of Macaronia and Raviolia seek friendly nations with whom to form military alliances for common self-defence and active retribution against those nations engaging in the barbaric practice of whaling!

The United Kingdoms is currently preparing to participate in direct action to prevent the Continentian nations from the massacre of innocent whale creatures, having despatched a flotilla of new Aglo-class patrol cruisers.

Statement from the Chevrokian Republic

Though we are not located in the Continentia region, we must discourage The United Kingdoms of Macaronia and Raviolia from engaging in direct military action against civilian whaling vessels in Continentia. Such interception of civilian vessels can result in and has in the past resulted in a state of war between the two nations.

However, we will not be bothered to directly stop the actions of The United Kingdoms of Macaronia and Raviolia, and merely hope that more logically-oriented minds will realize the mistake this nation is making. We will suggest that you tread VERY CAREFULLY; whole nations have been erased from the face of the Earth for less serious actions.

We, like our staunch Echoese allies, recognize the personhood and citizenship of Cetaceans. We also condemn whaling, and any whaling vessel spotted in KE or Commonwealth waters is shot on sight. However, we cannot join this alliance just yet, as we wish to see how the international reprecussions and our negotations with Akimonad play out. Yet, we will certainly fund your effort, if neccessary.

Any attempt by any members of this Anti-Whaling League to hamper the efforts of vessels operating in imperial waters or to bring harm to their crews will result in a full declaration of open hostilities against all AWL member nations, an immediate cease to all trade and diplomatic ties with AWL states as well as the immediate detainment of AWL citizens found within the Imperial Kingdom or her colony states

Though the Armed Republic does not condone or participate in international or local whaling expeditions, we would like to remind those nations attempting to enforce non existent 'international' rules on other nations as a blatant attempt at violating the sovereignty of nations the world round.

The Democratic States Government will dispatch four (4) Armidale Class patrol boat, three (3) FDe Zeven Provincien Class DDG, and three (3) Erie Class SSK to establish a quarantine zone around the waling area.

One (1) Cavour CVS carrier group will also be within the area on operational standby, ready to assist in the stopping of whaling activities. We will attempt to stop these whaling activities in international waters, and prevent from entering any territorial waters. If our navy is fired upon, we will respond with appropriate measures.

The Dictorial Reoublic of Sumer practices a highly regulated and carefully limited form of whaling. We see it as our soviergn right to do as we please in this matter, and as such will not stop based on whatever foreign nation decides we are in the wrong. As such, we care not for your intended war, but be advised that attempts at stopping Sumerian vessles from their economic endeavours in international waters will be responded to with force if nessecary, and attempts on Sumerian vessles in Sumerian national, or exclusive economic, waters, will be met as an act of war.

Anyone who fires upon Beatusian vessels in the area will be fired upon themselves, and they're actions will result in a state of war with the Republic of the Beatus. These vessels are there to observe, and if things get out of hand, and inocent civilian lives are in danger, to intervene to stop hostilities, by any means necessary, for human lives are more important that whales. So this is a warning to all nations in the area, DO NOT fire on vessels under the flag of the Republic of the Beatus, and DO NOT do anything that would endanger the lives of inocent civilians, for it will only end badly if you do.

The Republic Navy notes that your patrol cruiser lacks any sort of missile capability, measures 342 x 52 x 15 metres, and is a reasonably fast vessel, so presumably has a low block coefficient (cB) and would displace roughly 95,700 tons, assuming a cB of 0.35. Even assuming a cB of 0.05 (ridiculously low), it would displace 13,700 tons - as much as a large destroyer.

With its size, it can afford a vast array of anti-shipping and anti-submarine ordnance to protect it; even a Pegasus class hydrofoil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pegasus_%28PHM-1%29) is capable of mounting two four-rack anti-shipping missile launchers and displaces a mere 255 tons.

We would advise switching to this or another hydrofoil class for anti-whaling operations. Whaling is a cruel and barbaric practice and not tolerated in our waters.

However we can only pledge to you diplomatic support - we will not pledge any military forces.

This does not mean we are not serious about stopping whaling in the NS world.

We as a nation will from this point onwards restrict importing and exporting to nations that continue to hunt whales - In international & national waters.

If nations reduce or stop whaling then these trade barriers will be removed

But if nations continue to whale even with the trade barriers in place then Schnitzelfest will stop all trading with that nation and will cease all diplomacy with that nation.

His Omnipotence CJ, Emperor of Charliet commands me to offer you 20,000 rounds of the famous 4inch APFSDSDU ammunition developed by our Arms Industry to use in your Aglo Class vessels, purely for 'research' purposes of course....

Although violence and aggression may not be the best way to deal with the blight of whale hunting we completely sympathise with the United Kingdoms' motives. We ourselves completely ban whaling within our waters- and this ban is well enforced by the Artican navy. We, as a pacifist country, will not join in a military alliance but we can offer diplomatic support and any information the ISD (our intelligence service) acquires on the subject will be made available to you. There are other solutions though- a well worded UN resolution against whaling would probably curtail the trade considerably. On principle we will not allow any foreign naval force to enter our waters without permission but we will cooperate on many other levels if it becomes necessary, even continuing pursuit of escaping whalers.
