OOC: I am roleplaying in my capacity as my Republic puppet, Loriiea in this thread.

IC: The United Terran Federation. Long it had been in contact with the Republic. From time to time, the occasional friendly missive between a more democratic, relaxed Consul, and a Terran President was passed along, and, from time to time, they had even discussed such eventualities as an alliance.

However, both were systems subject to change, and both often shifted allegiances and friendships due to elections. This, perhaps, was what had kept them from such a situation. Perhaps it was the Republic's invasion of Dratheria - that, too, could have damaged relations.

Germanicus, the previous Consul, had left mounds of paperwork relating to such a treaty, yet he had never enacted something like this. The former Consul had always seen diplomacy and war as wholly seperate, and, whilst he was a good general, and a good politician, he sometimes found it hard to mesh the two.

Callis was a born politician. Whilst he was not the cleverest of generals, he understood the need for alliances to grow and prosper. Many Consuls took a closeminded view, believing that either a nation should join the Republic, or forever forfeit any hope of friendship. This, however, discounted the long-standing relationship between the Republic and Korgarein, a relationship that had profited both greatly.

Although now he was desperately trying to weave together an impenetrable defense for the Republic's core worlds, as the Dratherians began a series of raids that could well sink his Consulship, he knew that something more was required. If this war was lost, despite Germanicus's idiocy in starting it, he would be blamed. The Praetors would be called in. Perhaps he would be impeached, and thrown out of office. The risk was immense.

He threw papers from his desk, in anger. No, no. No, damnit! The generalship of such a defense defeated him. It was best, he thought, to let the strategic planning to others. Provided he defended provincial capitals adequately, and managed to inflict enough pain on the Dratherians and Dunerians to please the public, he would be more than fine.

He sighed. Since when had he been such a populist? He remember, before he was a Senator, having some ideals. But one did not get to the lofty rank of Consul without making some concessions.

A sheet of paper caught his eye.

"The Union?"

Yes! Despite Germanicus's inability to complete an alliance with the Union, they had shown themselves to be more than willing to ally with the Republic. Perhaps not be fully incorporated, but an alliance nonetheless.

Within seconds, he had a hololine open to Khaberi Missanian, one of his most powerful followers.

"Khaberi, you are going to need to leave the Senate briefly."

She was loyal, far more loyal than any of the other Loriiean Senators.

"Why?"

The only question she asked, he smiled. If ever a woman deserved a position in government, it was Khaberi. She could always be trusted to obey him, despite the fact she was a sceptic about almost everything else. But that bonds between him and her went back over hundreds of years..

He smiled at her. "You, my dear, are going to negotiate an alliance with the United Terran Federation."

She only nodded.

Within minutes, her ship blinked away from Taledon, escorted by two very prominent heavy cruisers. It was wartime, and every precaution had to be taken.

Yet, the trip was safe. Within a few days, she was landing on a Terran landing-pad, a party from the Federation rushing out to greet her..

Maxwell idly wandered out, a force of marines behind him and several senators from the federalist party on each side, he had a wide smile upon his brownish face, his eyes looking ahead at the party from the republic , the marines black armor jingled as they, marched behind the senators, the city rose above all of them, glimmering spires of steel and glass like metal, thousands of ships flew above, shimmering through the utterly cloudless blue sky, thousands of various spires buildings and self contained arcos could be seen to the horizon.

Maxwell started to speak his voice had a British accent to it, it was moderately toned, as they approached, the delegates could see the true stature of Maxwell, he was tall, his hair black eyes blue, with a smile to match. “Welcome to New Earth, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He held his smooth hand out as the senators around him nodded and bowed slightly. Behind them the marines stopped and formed a line on both sides of the large walkway.

Khaberi inclined her head gracefully. "I am most pleased to meet you, delegate. I am Khaberi Missanian, emissary and Senator of the Republic. I do apologize, but I do not believe I know your name."

The Federation ambassador Bowed slightly, standing back up he motioned for the delegates to come to him, he began walking down the long marble like path, a the prosperous city, bustled around them, two ornately decorated doors , the marines just lined the path waiting for the delegates to follow, inside was decorated heavily with federation colors, food was prepared fresh just a couple of hours before.

Khaberi sat down, quietly, a chair down from Maxwell.

"Let us cut to the chase, my friend. I know we both want something. No doubt we both want an ally, as has been expressed many times. However, I need terms I can take back to the Senate. Tell me. What precisely do you want out of this pact?"

Maxwell leaned back on to a chair of his own his hands folded across the table in front of him he nodded and responded as he heard the other speak, with his own diplomatic tone of voice.

"Our nation is looking to build strong ties, allies, and economic relations how ever we will not give up control of our foreign policy, how ever we are willing to provide support if its mutual in certain events"

As he spoke several cybers walked up leaning down and placing drinks in front of them, the platter was silver and reflective, the cups nearly as shiny as the plater with tint of gold.

The air in the room was relaxed, it wasn't tense or was it stale, the scenery was ornate, and well organized.

"Mutual-defense and trade?"

Khaberi smiled. This was easy enough.

"Perhaps your people would consent to a treaty which binds us in defense against unprovoked attack, and to neither of us have tariffs on any good that exceed any government funding to an industry? Thus, if there is no funding, no tariffs. A simple enough treaty, but your nation, I feel, has the strength to carry its own in war. We are generally reluctant to involve ourselves in military pacts, as most nations would cost us more than they would gain us, to be quite honest."

Her smile was somewhat faded - these negotiations were not part of the war, and she wanted them over quickly. Being in the Union right now was agonizing, what with the reports of Dratherian attacks on Talean itself..

After several hours of discussion, the treaty was hashed out. Defense, if asked for, and only if an unprovoked attack took place. Tariffs were to be matched - or removed, depending on the industry, and extradition of criminals was to take place between both the Republic and the Union.

Khaberi looked up, tired from the negotiations. "Would you be willing to sign this, ambassador? Or would you people be willing, at least?"

Max well gladly obliged, he placed a pen on the paper and scribbled his name out, he smiled a bit holding his hand out saying with a charismatic diplomatic voice.

" thank you its been a pleasure"
