The Confederate Crusade

Blackhelm Confederacy
20-12-2007, 11:22
Throughout the Blackhelm Confederacy, religious fervor was sweeping the nation. Bands of Christians roamed the country side and the inner cities, finding Muslims that had avoided the purges, and now in some cases even Jews, Hindus, a Sikhs. Men, women, and children, all of them were being mercilessly dragged out of their homes, some beaten, some hacked, and some shot to death. Anti-Islamic propaganda was everywhere. Graffiti on the walls depicted anti-Islamic and pro-Christian symbols, most popular was the image of either a cross or chi rho sticking from the chest of a bleeding man wearing a robe and a turban. It was now obvious to almost all within the nation. The Confederate Crusade, or the Second Exponential Crusade, has begun.

Within the Chancellors palace, in the very center of Paradise City, Chancellor Lucius Blackhelm watched as the mobs moved throughout the city. It was almost surreal from his point of view. He looked down on the city, seeing thousands of torches bobbing up and down in the darkness of the city streets and allies. Screams filled the night air as people were slaughtered on their streets. The Chancellor, as well as the Senate, were powerless to stop it, even if they wanted to. The people had spoken, and the military was still engaged with militias remaining from the civil war, and so unable to deal with the crusaders now. Even if they were free to do anything, it is unlikely that they would, as many would probably be joining the movement. And so the Chancellor and hs Senators watched as the mobs all began to converge of the Paradise Harbor, and began packing themselves off into ships off all different sizes.

The Chancellor looked to his advisors, the Chief of Staff, General Marcus Blueshield, the Head of the Admiralty, Admiral Julius Greyhammer, and the Head of Senate, Senator Cornelius Pureheart. The men all seemed confused. None could decide whether or not it was a good or bad idea to allow the crusade. They all believed in the idea behind it, but they were not very happy to let thousands of their citizens march off into a foreign land to fight a battle they were likely to die in. On the other hand, however, the nation was finally beginning to unify again, and the nations leaders did not want to see the Confederacy splinter apart and fall back into the state it was only months ago.

The men and boys, some as young as eight, were all ready to eradicate the heathens and pagans who so readily comitted genocide against their fellow Christians. They ignored the fact that within their own country, it was the Muslims who were being eradicated. They did not care about the Muslims, their minds were made up. To them, these people were doomed to suffer for eternity, and unless converted, could only serve to grant the crusaders passage to Heaven. They were armed with anything they could find, baseball bats, pipes, knives, hand guns, shot guns, AK's, anything and everything. Several wealthy Confederates had decided to sponsor militias, thus giving them access to several heavy pieces of equipment, and even a few tanks to go along with the throngs of pick up trucks that were about to head overseas.

The men all had learned of the First Exponential Crusade (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=511111) ever since they could remember. The heroes of the Crusade, men like Hericus Redfeather and Rex Mundi IV did not fight in vain. The first crusade may not have achieved its objective, but these men were all determined to reverse these fortunes and pick up where their ancestors had failed. They would destroy the Muslim scourge and make the world free for Christendom once again. Either that, or they would all die trying.

Official Response from the Confederate Senate

The Confederate Government at this point in time has no stance on the current situation concerning the Crusade. Islam is already a banned religion within the Confederacy, and the men and women of the Crusade are only making things easier for government forces.

We do not condone, however, the acts of violence against other religious groups, such as the Jews, Sikhs, and Hindus. Camps have been set up for these groups to seek refuge in until the storm passes, and already, several thousand have entered them. These camps are guarded constantly by the Confederate Army, and are quite safe.

Concerning the removal of refugees, we will allow for ten, not fifty, transport aircraft to land and remove people to safety. The Confederate Government will assist you in this by transporting the people to the runway.

You have clearance for landing at Paradise City International Airport.

Greetings, fellow capitalists and brothers in Christ.

We have taken note of the recent situation within your nation. We support your crusade, and may soon join you, but the matter of the civil unrest is most unsettling. Be these Muslims criminals or no, it is destructive to have them accosted in such a matter, rather than through due legal processes (the resulting persecution of other religious minorities being the clearest current example). Of course, assuming they are few enough, the civil damage may be limited.

We wish you the best of fortune in this crusade, in which you might soon see Errikans, and hope that you might control this civil issue soon.

Office of the Praetor of Vetalia

Before I begin, Chancellor, I want you to know our country couldn't care less about your beliefs; this is not some attempt to reach out to our religious brethren, absolutely not. Our spiritual beliefs, which I will not go in to here, are completely different from Christianity and have virtually nothing in common with your own system. That being said, this crusade interests us...one might say the profits involved are spiritual motivation for our people. Our country's business leaders have expressed interest in this situation and have personally asked me to make moves towards aiding your crusade in exchange for, of course, cash and land upon completion of the crusade. That is what we want, and if it means that certain ethical compromises are necessary for us to achieve that end, we are willing to make them.

The Vetalian government, along with a large number of companies in various fields, are willing to supply you with the tools, supplies, finances, and weaponry these crusaders need to achieve their goals. We will make sure these transactions are kept well hidden and that there will be no risk of inadvertent discovery; we want your crusaders to win, because then we win. I feel this mutually beneficial relationship will lead to considerable economic opportunity for us and the realization of spiritual goals in the Confederacy.

No doubt your government still has qualms about sanctioning this crusade, but we are confident Vetalian aid will remove many of those doubts and turn these ragtag militias in to a force to be reckoned with.

OOC:question!! where is this foreign land that you speak of that these militias are supposedly heading for? Im a little confused with this storyline if Islam is banned from your country but there is still substantial purging of what seems like a substantial population of Muslims...

I am also unclear about the reason for this crusade and why Blackhelm citizens are so deeply pasionate about it.

And why all of a sudden are the Muslims not important??? 0.o

OOC: Answer! (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=545589) The foreign land is Mhoudia, where the Islamic government has recently begun executing Christians in large numbers. There has been some general outrage, and now some Christian groups are moving to stop this; Blackhelm's people are among them.

RE: Persecution.

Your Excellency,

The Empire of New Chalcedon does not dispute your nation's right to self-determination in any way. We, as the Emperor of New Chalcedon, hereby request permission to evacuate all those under attack, as We believe it to be a Christian and godly act to rescue those suffering oppression. This operation will be conducted entirely at the expense of the Empire of New Chalcedon, and will not involve armed units entering the Blackhelm Confederacy. We make this offer in the Godly spirit of charity and brotherhood towards your fellow man which was encouraged numerous times by Christ Pantocrator in His sermons towards His chosen people. We implore your government to assist us in evacuating these people. Do you really care what way they live, so long as it is far away from your borders, your Holy Land? We hope and pray that this issue can be resolved in a manner consistent with the humanitarian principles Our Saviour espoused.

Yours Sincerely,

Constantine XV,
Emperor and Lord of New Chalcedon,

New Crusaders Communiqué

Fellow Christians,

Muhammad told Muslims that the jihad, the holy war, was to be part of their faith. Jesus did not tell us to destroy those that did not follow him, only to show them the light of Christ. This senseless slaughter of non-Christians is abominable. Your genocide in Christianity's name is a sour reflection upon all of Christ's followers.

You may be asking why we, who wish to overthrow Mhoudia and enstate a Christian Democracy over part of the nation, object to this. We are fighting to defend our faith from Jihadi warriors that are fighting to destroy it. Your mass murders are no different from theirs. They are no more holy either. Please stop this before Christians everywhere are attacked in reprecussion.

We would support you, however, a fevorus religious drive is not the way to do it. What you are doing is the same as the Mhoudians, racism and attempted genocide against Islam. We recommend at least trying to stop you citizens. Unorganized mobs won't help the current situation over there.

We see this Crusade and your offer, and we do not know what to do. While this Crusade is finally pulling the nation back together, it is also tearing it apart, causing thousands of our citizens to go far from their homes and likely die when they engage an actual trained and equipped military force as they are likely to encounter in Mhoudia. The offer you have made us does do some to dispel our fears, but we still do not want to condone the bloodbath that is about to begin.

If there is any way that you can supply these men without leaving any trail back to the Confederate government, then you are more than welcome to do so, and we would welcome Vetalian companies into our nation, in the name of saving Confederate lives.

Dear Constantine XV of New Chalcedon,

While we are a firmly Christian nation, the camps for the Muslims within the Confederacy are not set up on a religious basis, but rather an ethnic one. The Muslims are state persecuted because they are not of the Exponential race. This is done to maintain a bond of unity within the Confederacy, as the government is always on the verge of collapse and states always threatening succession.

We will let you land forces to remove a number of political prisoners and other peoples sentenced to exile. As we told the Kahanistanis, you may bring ten aircraft, and Paradise City Intl. Airport will be opened for your planes.

Signed,

Cornelius Pureheart, President of Senate

The mass of Crusaders had, for the most part, been little educated, and saw the message from Kirav only as a threat to them. They had interpreted the message as telling them that their nation will be attacked by Muslims, and this only increased their zeal, as leaders marched around, telling the men that other nations were warning them that Muslims were preparing an assault on the Confederacy, and it was up to these Confederates to act as the nations defenders, and strike first before they were hit.

The Crusaders were all prepared to jopin the Kiravian and other forces at Mhoudia, and together, they hoped to free their brothers in Christ.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Minister Cyran Dagg,

The Confederate government is in no way responsible for the Crusade. We do not condone the Crusade, nor are we equipping or supplying the Crusaders in any way. An attempt to stop the mobs might only further escalate the already volatile situation in the Confederacy, as it is already at a point where our government, as well as the forces of Undershi and Deserted Territories are having trouble controlling. By creating more enemies in our nation is no way to keep our nation together.

As a man who leads a country choke full of mulsims and christians, I know peace is possible. At first those two groups clashed in the streets everyday, killing many people and hurting our nation. I sat down with the respective leaders of each group and was able to meditate peace between them. While they still do fight every so often, it is not as much or as bad as it was before. But people like this crusuade only make things worse. They themselves set the stage for the immense hatred between these two factions and thus this turns into a never ending cycle of death and hatred. I ask bLackhelm to do something about this. Even though action might bring down your country, inaction will bring it down in crashing flames.

Dear Aimless von Strangaild, High Leader of Zackaroth,

We do not believe you understand the situation here. This is a problem that has been going on for centuries. It is not something will be resolved by the crumbling of the only form of order in the lives of these people. An attempt to intervene would only bring the Confederacy to an end, and cause even further bloodshed as there would no longer be anything to stop any criminal from doing whatever he or she wants. The result of a military intervention to stop the Crusade will lead ultimately to anarchy. Please, look at how deep this feud goes before assuming that Confederate military intervention will patch up the problems within our nation.

Sixteen officials and fifty-nine million rubles later, the Vetalian aid shipments were now prepared for shipment to the Confederacy. Crates and containers, filled to the brim with equipment, ammunition, firearms, rations and even more advanced equipment like night-vision goggles and anti-tank missiles were en route to supply the crusaders...in exchange for Confederate credits, which were one of the few currencies in the world granted the same respect by Vetalians as the ruble itself.

Loaded on to ships, they were simply sent across the sea to their destination, protected by the exceptionally strict Interdiction of Commerce Act, which effectively made an act of aggression, if not necessarily war, any attempt by a foreign power to interrupt Vetalian shipments to a third party. Once in the Confederacy, the Vetalians themselves would arrive. Amoral, greedy, and frighteningly competent in their business, these people were intent solely on profiting from a destructive, prolonged religious war...filling their own pockets in a kind of golden offering to the Vetalian pantheon, a pantheon headed by the very deification of Wealth itself.

Operations would begin in Paradise City, ideally with the purchase of a sizable amount of real estate to create the enclave needed to sustain their activities. In a hot zone like the Confederacy, where the population was teeming on the brink of chaos, it was unwise for anyone foreign to be isolated, especially not the Vetalians, who were likely to be an easy target for the Christian mob. Mammon's own culture was not likely to be well-received...and the suppliers would make sure to carefully remove their shipments' RFID tags and Vetalian UPC codes prior to delivery to prevent any negative associations...

[He]...also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. Book of Revelation, 13:16-17.

...the last thing the Vetalians needed was an unprofitable war against a mob of zealots.

Official Message to the Blackhelm Confederacy

Prazinia's Inquisition humbly asks our brothers in Christ to reconsider your priorities on the war against the forces of Evil. Beliefs can always change with time and with wisdom, there is only one thing that does not change, that crawls under the shadows of false morality and belief. The true heart of mankind's evil is the nature of a man. We request you to change the focus of your Crusade from the misguided but still pure of heart Muslims to the corrupt sodomites, satanists, tyrants, cheaters, thieves, murderers and all other forms of human corruption, which are the true sources of Evil and the allies of the Antichrist in the yet to come Tribulation and where many of them disguise themselves as "Christians". Years ago, the Inquisition was approved by a referendum by the utter majority of Prazinia's people, and since then it fights against these forces of darkness which seek to corrupt the Holy Republic of Prazinia and our World to pave the way for the future coming of the False Prophet, of the Antichrist and of the Global Tyranny. In the name of Democracy and of God we shall defend Earth against this evil, no matter the cost.

The leaders of the mobs began to find these Vetalinas through a means of secret government tip offs. Slowly, more and more Crusaders began to show up at the door of the Vetalians, hoping to purchase weaponry and other supplies for the fight that was to come. Orders were being placed for the cheapest possible weaponry, although a handful of men had raised enough money from their militias to afford missiles and such. Several men raised the same question when they arrived to see the Vetalians. They desperately needed some form of transportation to the enemy, and they hoped that the Vetalians would be able to provide this.

Meanwhile, the slogan of the Crusade appeared. It was Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, or in English, For the Greater Glory of God. The letters AMDG soon began to be seen scrawled across walls, on windows, and on boxes of supplies to be shipped to the Crusaders. With their slogan and their new found equipment, several dozen ships set out to sea. Their destination was currently Mhoudia, but it was all up to the sea and the wind if they got there. None of the Crusaders even really knew what Mhoudia was, all that they knew was that the nation of Kirav had called a Crusade to protect the nations Christians, and these men would rather die than let Muslims attempt to wipe out Christianity.

Aboard one of the ships, a small boy, only ten years old, sat with his legs dangling over the side. His name was Lucius Bronzefoot, but everybody knew him as just Lu. His tenth birthday was only three days before, and he was still just getting done with his opening toys when he was dragged into this whole mess. He was not wealthy by any means, just a slow present opener, preferring to play with each toy a bit before opening the next. In fact, Lu was poor. Very poor. Lu and his family lived in a small hovel in the Paradise City slums, and had never been more than a few blocks from home. Well, this all was about to change.

Lu sat there looking at the dark water below him, playing with the safety on his Leafanistani made AR-550 assault rifle that lay across his lap. He wasn't even really sure how he got the gun, but the gun bore the logo of Griffincrest on the barrel. It was probably taken from a dead mercenary during the uprising, and subsequently sold to Lu's father, a strong, tall man in his thrities who was currently somewhere else on the ship. Lu did not really know why he was here, all that he knew was that his father had told him that their brothers were in need of help in some foreign country, and that all of these people were going to help. Lu wondered how he could help, and why these "brothers" had never come over on holiday to visit, like the rest of his family.

Within only a few short weeks, the Crusaders would hopefully have landed in Mhoudia, and they would show the current majority there what a real genocide is.

Already the Vetalian "quarter" in Paradise City was being...Vetalianized. Houses were purchased, apartments leased, and soon most of the area was adrift with construction as the immigrants prepared to settle for the long haul. Older, more decrepit buildings were turned in to far more lavish estates, the streets began to fill with the soft lighting and classical designs of Vetalian culture, and above all the area was filled with the din of Vetalian automobiles, their bright chrome and 1950's Renewal stylings clashing with the more modern outfit of other parts of the city.

However, if one thing was for certain, there was business happening. Banks had sprung up, their interest rates changing rapidly as they made considerable loans to their crusading customers so that they could purchase weapons from their arms-dealing counterparts, and in more than a few cases the buildings literally stood door-to-door. The strangest combination was the tailor-fine foods-arms dealer operating near the center of the district; a crusader could be well-dressed, well-fed, and well-armed all in the same location.

"Now, for those of you with good credit we can loan you up to 10,000* rubles at 12.5% compounded monthly over the next two years. The rest of you can borrow up to 5,000 rubles at an adjustable schedule ranging from 13-25%, with an average APR of 15% over the two year period. Those who already have an established history with our bank can receive further preferential rates and a higher credit limit."

"Now, in regard to vehicles...say what you want and we can have them in stock by week's end. Also, we're offering new vehicle loans for qualified customers; we're proud to say you can purchase an APC or a tank if you've got the funds, and everyone else can get a decent vehicle for a fair price."

The mob was now being armed and starting to pose a grave threat to the safety of the Confederacy. Crusaders, most having little or no education, did not fully comprehed the whole loan and interest thing, and to them, the Vetalian announcements only said "FREE MONEY HERE". Because of this, hundreds, perhaps even thousands of men began to go in and apply for the maximum loan available. They would literally take this money and go right next door, where they would arm themselves, and then go next door again and gather supplies.

Several men began to place orders for armor as well. Dozens of request were filed for tanks and APC's, and men were particularly interested in missiles. Missiles of every sort were in high demand by the Crusaders, and they were hoping to use these to provide an explosive punch to the Crusaders. Men were throwing about handfulls of rubles and credits, not realizing that soon this money would have to be paid back.

The Senate was now in a panic. Foreigners had arrived within the Confederacy, and were now taking in huge profits, profits which the Confederacy would not be able to sustain. In less than a year, a massive swath of the population would be in debt to a foreign power. Not only this but the mob was gaining more and more fire power right before their very eyes. Something had to be done immediately, but the Senate still did not want to risk civil war.

The alternative to this, they believed, was to provide the men with a means to leave. The main reason for many of the Crusaders still being in the Confederacy was that they could not find a way to get out. The Confederate military decided to conveniently leave five massive transport craft on the beach, and fire of a few flares to make sure they were found. Soon, even more crusaders would be hitting the seas.

In response to the Confederate demand for Vetalian loans, their creditors began to introduce increasingly exotic loans, loans on loans, even selling shares of stock and bonds to finance further lending. The pending war was creating a debt bubble that was putting millions in to Vetalian pockets every day, producing affluence Literally everything with value was now being accepted as collateral, and the debt itself was already a thousand miles away being traded by brokers who didn't even know from where it originated, let alone for what it was being used.

The banks involved in the "Confederate boom" saw their shares climb, and climb, and climb, and the country was increasingly swept up in the boom, with a ferocity not seen since the establishment of Vetalian Tornus a generation ago.

Ports across the country were packed with goods and equipment destined for crusader forces, the sheer demand forcing docking fees through the roof and further stimulating the bubble. Money lubricated every transaction, from the government officials supplying tanks and weapons to dealers, to the shippers that kept them quiet, to the arms dealers that sold them as casually as pickup trucks or golf clubs. The frenetic atmosphere only grew more so as the rubles were poured back in to the area, with everything from casinos and nightclubs (for the Vetalians) to religious supply stores springing up to satiate the needs of their customers...each one employing not Confederates but the increasingly prolific Vetalians, all of them with the same amiable smile, nasal Russian accent, and most of all ferocious greed .

War was good business, and the Vetalians had major incentives to keep it going...

You simply must do something about the mobs terrorizing your nation. Right now, they are treating innocent muslims the same way that Mhoudia treated innocent christians. If you are unable to stop them I can send some of our mages over there to try and calm things down, but if you are unwilling I will be forced to propose an embargo to congress -- which will almost certainly be passed.
