It's been a long time since we have had communications with you, we hope everything is alright within your borders and request a diplomat to be sent to your nation, old freind.

Deputy General Secretary Christine Friedrich was, to say the least, a bit startled by the Calaveran entreaty. But then again, much had changed over there and perhaps renewing contact of some sort was due. She couldn't help thinking though, Now why couldn't those changes have been for the better?

It didn't help that the new religion of the country was so controversial as it was. Kashism's commandments hardly appealed to her, and she was agnostic to boot, but then again ignoring the country practicing it wasn't helpful either. Something would need doing, but what? Maybe a careful response could keep this low-key until the answer emerged. It was better than playing dumb, that was sure...

Encoded Communique to the Sun Worshipping People of North Calaveras,

Your inquiry is received well by us, since in the years following your war with British Londinium we must say the People's Republic's old embassy fell into disuse. For ourselves, we are well enough aside from the current war against Mer des Ennuis; but that and other matters present a complication.

Namely, although we certainly grant and respect the writ of your religious choices within your own land, I find it difficult to reconcile the commandments of Kashism with our laws. At minimum, I must formally protest the doctrine of enshrined cannibalism; especially practiced against enemy children and prisoners-of-war who may neither practice Kashism nor even know of the tenets until said are imposed on them against their will. I find such aggressive use of blood rite to be an abhorrent teaching, out of place in a formerly progressive land such as the new homeland the former People's Republic was relocated to, and much against the spirit of the Kash Wilson I knew before his death at Londinian hands as later became known. What is done among those willingly adhering to your faith is your business and theirs, but to paraphrase an old saying, "your right to practice your religion ends where endangerment of those not willingly following it begins."

At any rate, I'd be willing to entertain your diplomats to discuss amenable terms of relation again, but what must be said must be; I think we agree we'll get nowhere by lying to each other. The party sent (if any) should be small, so as to present minimal to-do; our lands are not safe. Given that we are at war with the aforementioned Mer des Ennuis, advising high-level travel to us for any but the most vital missions is not something we could do in good conscience when we do not know if the enemy may harm our guests as well as us; confident of our coming victory as we are or not. At minimum, whatever we can or cannot do for you, we would welcome your delegation to inspect the old embassy and decide what to do with the old People's Republic's papers therein; it's been sealed and kept under guard for the past few years and thus should still be in good order should you decide to come anyway. With luck, what you would find there may be of use to you somehow.

Sincerely,
Christine Friedrich
