Kansiov Under Attack!

Kansiov, its December and the streets and transportation systems in Kansiov City are packed with commuters. The City, the biggest in Kansiov has a staggering 25 million people living in it and yet many people didn't know that today, Kansiov City's Civil Defense department will be stretched to its limits. Kansiovians in these area has not experienced the rumbles of war unlike the Prochnyians and will pay dearly of their lives for that. At around 630hrs on Monday a thunderous bang was heard around Sonya street, people looked up to see a blazing Vasil Tower in the horizon. Scared and frightened many rushed indoors to brace for the worst. The Kansiov City Fire Department rushed to the tower minutes after the explosion.

Quickly, they rushed into the already blazing tower before another 2 attacks happened in another part of the City. This time, two buses filled with commuters in the morning rush were bombed, adding more death toll to the already 37 confirmed in the Vasil Tower. Firemen quickly raced to the other 2 sites, but were quickly bogged down by the morning traffic, they knew every second they wasted, they are putting more people at risk of losing their lives. Good Samaritans were already pouring buckets of water at the buses by the time the firemen arrived. This time however there were no survivors. Most of the Ambulances then were quickly diverted to the Vasil Tower Bomb site. Just when the they were clearing up the mess, a massive eruption happened in Chznovy Mall, the left side of the building was literally blown sky high. Witnesses said, a container truck was seen ramming straight into the mall before the eruption, had it been, it was most likely a massive bomb. Already overstretched and a few reserves left, Kansiov City fire Department pulled in their entire reserves into the search and rescue and called for the firemen in the other 3 bomb sites to proceed to the mall once they are done in those areas.

The very few firemen were already having difficulty putting out the fire, to add to the carnage the flames spread to the underground food court and the gas tanks which supply gas for the stoves erupted, causing a second explosion killing 6 firemen. Nearly Half of the building didn't even exist while the other was left blazing on its own. Many simply ran out without any help people trampled upon each other adding further to the ever rising death toll. Even 1 1/2 hours after the bombings, there were only 14 fire trucks at the scene and not even a single ambulance arrived. Those lucky ones got a ride to hospitals by bypassing drivers willing to send pick them up. Those who weren't were simply left the die on the streets. Military trucks, City Buses and more importantly ambulances arrived 2 hours after the incident. The death toll was expected to be in the hundreds.

By 1130hrs, it was all over, a total of 576 were killed in the mall alone. Kansiov City was to take to the polls the week after Christmas and yet people were massacred before Christmas reunion. Grief turned into anger, the questions were now, why were the Civil Defense services were so inefficient, and what would Kansiov do as revenge, it was almost too clear that the Prochnyians were behind this. The liberals and Christians were expected to be the hardest hit on the polls today after backing "soft approaches" against Prochyna which had a large support but would likely change after this incident. A Major Crackdown is expected to take place around the city and Prochnya in the Pre-Christmas week and troops in Prochnya would be unlikely to return for their holidays.

"Kansiovians, this act today by Prochnyians is totally unacceptable. We will kill or arrest those responsible and charge them for man slaughter as soon as possible. Alfegos Government Statement

Alfegos has a clear stance on all forms of terrorism: IT SHALL NOT BE TOLERATED. After this day of attacks which claimed the lives of 24 citizens of our nation, most of them holiday-makers, we can only make one thing clear. Those responsible for the atrocities will be hunted down without mercy. We will not give them the benefit of prison - they will face the death penalty if any are found on our soil.

Terrorism is a harsh reality in todays world. Gone are the days of picnics on Sundays, of keeping your doors unlocked, of being able to fly without worry.

Instead, today is a world of fear, of anger, of hate. A world where one cannot walk out the front door of his house without feeling frightened by the stranger on the corner of his street, or the man who walks back and forth in front of his neighbours house.

Those in Etoile Arcture watched on their televisions the bombings unfold over the course of the day with mounting horror, not least of all those Kansiovian and Prochnyians resident in the Technocracy. Secretary General Francis Covington was among that number. He understood that the bombings were more than a tragedy, but the prelude to a deep a crisis.

"I need to speak to President Attontov urgently to offer my condolences," he ordered from his office.

Helena Thorpe, the Deputy Secretary General, leaned forward in her chair, shaking off the disgust she felt. "This makes it harder for the Technocracy to detach itself from the Prochnyian problem."

"Isn't it a wonder how a people so quickly become a problem," Francis snapped back.

Helena, unbowed, simply shrugged off the comment. "Whichever way you look at this, Secretary General, these bombings make our position of allowing Prochnyian separatists to campaign freely on Etoilain soil this more difficult. We must offer all the support and assistance we can to President Attontov to ensure the coming elections do not produce a result more unpalatable than that unpalatable truth."

Sighing, Frank shook his head but he knew his deputy's words were sage on the matter. Shoring up the support of the liberal elements in the regime was important if more needless loss of life was to be avoided.

"President Attontov is online for you now," a voice announced over the telephone intercom.

Looking up Frank addressed the large flat screen that had switched from the carnage of the bombings to the sad face of the Kansiovian leader.

"I am sorry to be speaking to you under such terrible circumstances, President Attontov..." Frank begun.

Hours after the teleconference, when the last of the casualties had been evacuated to hospitals and the airwaves and Internet had lit up with the angry bees of who was to blame for the attacks, Frank appeared before the assembled cameras of the press. As he stood at his lectern emblazoned with the bue seal of the Technocracy he barely looked down at the transluscent screens of his teleprompter, looking into the camera lens, and the eyes of all those watching.

"It is with great sadness that I express, on behalf of the citizens of Etoile Arcture, our great shock and disgust following the horrendous acts of violence and terror we have seen witnessed in Kansiov City today. These terror attacks strike at the very heart of our civilised society and can never be justified. The Technocracy reaffirms its commitment to fight terrorism and oppression wherever it it is found. We pledge our full support to President Attontov and to the Kansiovian people and every assistance we can provide to locate, apprehend and bring to justice those responsible for today's heinous acts of terror. At this normally joyous occasion we find ourselves united grief, but may we never be united in fear. The terrorists will be defeated."

As soon as the Secretary General has finished speaking numbers had begun to appear on the viewers screens from various charities offering help and aid to the victims of the attacks. Whatever Francis had promised the Kansiovian leader, meanwhile, would remain secret. For now.
