Your troops have BMP-1s and T-55s here, right? Do they have the modern upgrades like laser range finders and thermal sights?

IC: As one of the AH-1s relayed the enemy position to the Lorotheon units, they mounted up and advanced, cautiously towards the dunes. Near the edges, HAWK SAM vehicles scanned the sky for aircraft. Meant for targetting fast moving jets, they would no trouble hitting the much slower Hinds.

OOC2: Pause so I can get that information

OOC: Some are equippred with thermal sights, but not all of them. This is a rag-tag army, remember, so what advanced equipment they have will undoubtly be low-grade. I'd like to wait for Dyelli to make his responses to the attacks before we go any further.

One legion of Scandinvan Imperial paratroopers, which had loss 1,500 men and now numbered around 8,500 soldiers, began a heavy push against the outer perimeter of the capital city and hoped to begin to push back the remaining forces of Turka-Sir into the pockets which had been nearly leveled already by Scandinvan bombers. On the opposite side of the city, the southeastern part of the capital, began to be fire bombed again by Scandinvan B-52 bombers.

On coastlines of Turka-Sir, on the Gulf Sea part of the country, the Scandinvan Marine forces now had been dispatched from the main parts of the two fleets, and could now be seen, with binoculars, by the any person on the coast. Though before the Scandinvan forces began the land assualt, a final heavy barrage from the Scandinvan warships that they hoped would be able to lighten any enemy resistance that the Imperial forces might encounter on or near the beaches.

President Kilo,

You must understand that there are differences between us in the way we act and think that will lead to misunderstandings. That is why I emphasise the difference in cultures. Too often have we in Dyelli Beybi been witness to the forcible imposition of Liberal Democracy. That is not to say we have an issue with Liberal Democracy, indeed by many classifications we are one.

I shall ensure the immediate dispatch of a top diplomat to Turka-Sir to negotiate regarding foreign nationals. I am not offering to have someone negotiate immediately, as I do not feel it is appropriate for this task to fall upon a military person unskilled in the subtleties of diplomacy.

As a measure of good faith we are willing to immediately offer the equivalent of $US 12 million to each and every family affected, not only to those of imported_ViZion. This sum is as much as is within our budget to offer. We would strongly advise against pursuing this inflated claim against Turka-Sir. The amount of money will do nothing to better your situation. While it will make two families ridiculously wealthy, it will impoverish inumerable families within Turka-Sir, stoking the fires of resentment for the future. While it may seem a suitable punitary measure, it is not a measure which I feel will result in a just outcome, and justice surely is more important than revenge?

Your initial communication has given me cause to doubt your honour, however I will chose to overlook this as an unfortunate attempted politican machination that is quite out of character. As it seems appropriate considering the situation we are willing to offer to you, our own hostages as a measure of our good faith and willingness to reach a peaceful settlement.

Regards,
Alexia ap Adam
Alexia,

Our issue with money is not with you. You are, after all, not the one in debt with the two families in ViZion. If you are worried about this taking away from the people of Turka-Sir, then I propose this: $250 million to the two families, and $750 million to the citizens of Turka-Sir, thus resolving that issue.

And we stand solid on the requirement of releasing civilians. After all, that is not where their fight is. And had nations come afte this young nation without them harming civilians, we likely would be defending them. However, they had no right to kill other nations innocent civilians.

Have them release the civilians - our main goal here is to end this peacefully with the safe return of civilians from across the globe.

We are glad that chains are now being moved to further this diplomatic resolution. We thank you, and hope that you two can help us in finishing the deal of returning the civilians home safety, while payments are made to those lost.

I can't finish that, can I? :(
OOC: That's how it works in war... you, as the one being attacked, determine the outcome of a hostile strike against you. You cannot claim the damage/deaths/etc of your strike against others, and visa versa. Just don't godmod... aka basically cheat saying "I take no damage!" ;)

President Kilo,

We shall do our best to float this proposal. However I have the following ammendments I would like to propose;

Firstly, the $250 million be also divided between the families of the Lorotheon victims. This would ensure that we cover all potential areas of conflict.

Secondly, the $750 million be given to a series of local or foreign construction firms for the purpose of infrastructure growth. We feel this would benefit the common people far more in the long run than a one off distribution of a few units of currency.

Regards,

Alexia ap Adam, Prime Minister.
Alexia ap Adam,

Those ammendments you propose are acceptable. I am glad to know that we are now working together towards a better future for those involved, and a peaceful resolution to end this conflict.

Thank you for your willingness to assist,

There was a Dyellian Army in the main port (OOC: Sorry, don't know the name) on the Coast. They would scuttle into hiding with remarkable speed as soon as the Scandinvan barrage was picked up. They dug in and waited. Despite efforts to promote peace it appeared several factions were hell bent on war and the Dyellians would honour their commitment to defend Turka-Sir.

The second Dyellian fleet was bearing in on the Gulf now and it would only be a matter of time before it met with the Scandinvans and battle was joined.

[B]Earlier That Year...

Abdhul al-Misawi stood at attention near the dark docks in the main port of Karak, about seventy five miles away from the capital of Jhualm. The MP had been put at ease by the quiet lapping sounds of the waves licking the shoreline. The dim moonlight offered minimal light at this hour. The docks were nearly empty, save for a few military personnel. Why would they be needed there in the first place?

Abdhul's radio chirped a quiet call "Precious cargo en route, ETA twenty minutes. Keep sharp, and watch for any witnesses."

A huff was emitted by the MP. Who would be out at this hour? His eyelids felt heavy as he watched the faintest of dots in the distance, an old rusting cargo ship, make its way slowly to the harbour. He didn't know what the cargo was, but he knew that everything on the docks was top secret. The less he knew, the less bullets would be directed towards him. That was his personal motto.

The ship slowly docked itself in the twenty minutes promised. Orders were barked by overseeing officers, and men quickly took over the surface of the boat. A ramp was put in place, and a large truck was backed up towards the water. Abdhul had watched the unloading without a real interest. It was simply another night. They had been getting some sort of weapons or materials from a private dealership. He frowned, however, as he saw men in biosuits handling the last of the containers. Something didn't feel right.

Within a span of a few hours, the truck had been loaded and quietly drove off into the night. The MP's guarding the docks were told to hold their positions until the ship was safely back into open waters.

The situation for the Dyellians was that they absolutely needed to get their fleet to the Coast. The Scandinvan Fleet just happened to be in the way. There were thousands of Dyellian ships, warships alike. Oddly enough radar would not pick up any dirigibles... then 15 ships would vanish off sea search radar, and 15 very large aircraft appear. Followed some minutes later by 300 regularly sized aircraft which advanced in a spread out formation across the gulf, bearing down on the Scandinvan fleet...

The Lorotheon leading battalions crept forward, the gunners staring intently at their laser sights, waiting for the enemy tanks on the ridge to come into range, and knowing that their Turka-Sir counterparts were doing the same thing.
The Lt.Col of the first battalion barked out a halt, the tanks and APCs halted.
"Fire!"
From the rear, the M109 SP artillery pieces fired, sending shells towards the Turka-Sir line. It quickly became obvious that the volley was short, and the shells landed about 100 meters ahead of the enemy line, where instead of exploding, they shot out black smoke, up about 30 yards in the air. The Lorotheon tanks waited for the smoke bombardment to stop before rolling forward, using their thermal sights to target the T-55s.

Lieutenant General Varas looked at his watch "White phosphorous and cluster munitions, enemy positions. Fire for effect. Give the clear for air strikes, and tell the brigade commanders to engage"

The lead M60TTSs stopped at their maximum range, their thermal sights giving them a clear picture of the tanks engine blocks. They stopped to stabilize themselves, then fired. The infantry who had ATGMs dismounted, setting up their firing positions, and above them hovered the AH-1G Cobras, relatively safe from AA helicopters behind the HAWK SAM screen.
The rear artillery fired, a mix of armor piercing cluster bombs and white phosphorous for dismounted infantry.
Turka-Sir
19-12-2007, 23:23
The Turka-Sirian lines went into a confused panic as shots sprang from the black smoke screen. Explosions shook the earth as nearby sand and vehicles exploded. Helicopters overhead tried to radio enemies' positions to the blind battle lines on the ground. Tank commanders, tossing their binoculars aside, simply aimed their guns at random points in the smog and opened up with a crushing barrage. Tracer rounds from heavy calibre guns raced into the smog and into wherever they landed on the other side. Tank shells exploded from the barrels and rocketed towards the selected points. It was pure, random chaos compared to the well organized Lorotheon combatans.

In a purely emotional command decision, the infantry were ordered to dismount from their APCs and rush towards firing positions where ever they could find them. Companies of soldiers ran to various part of the field, trying to get a fix on their invisible enemy. Lacking in any thermal or sophisticated ground radar, the defenders were at a disadvantage that would claim many lives.

Their scout helicopters stayed out of range of their enemy counterparts, relaying as much information to the commanders being hit with artillery and tank shells.
Lorotheon
19-12-2007, 23:43
Scattered explosions appeared up and down the Lorotheon line, as some of the wild shells hit targets, but most sent up clouds of sand as their AP penetrators landed randomly.
"Command, this is Eagle Lead?" Lt. Col. Edras radioed in "We have infantry advancing on our position, where is our Willy Pete (White Phosphorous)? Targets are moving along grid A-6-8 and B-6-7. Request support now!"
About 15 minutes out, 32 attack planes, most loaded with anti-tank munitions, but some with napalm, flew in low, preparing to acquire targets.
Turka-Sir
20-12-2007, 00:03
"Commander!" The radio barked beside tank commander Gunnery Sergeant Mousil-al-Jahim. It was the voice of the field general Darim Alahsad, who seemed to have just gotten his latest report from his recon helicopters. He looked down at the radio equipment inside his tank, yelling over the explosions that shifted the sand around his tank to his radio operator, "What does the general want now?". The radio barked again, as if General Alahsad heard the yelling tank officer. "Enemy aircraft inbound. We don't have any air defences at the moment. Order your troops to fall back immediately! I repeat, fall back and regroup. GET YOUR MEN OUT OF THERE!"

Too late. The deadly rain had already begun. The screams of the men who were caught up in the fire storm were drowned out by the crackling fire and earbursting explosions. While the napalm made human torches, the anti-tank munitions made crater holes where once expensive machines stood defiantly in the face of the enemy. Mousil-al-Jahim needed no further prodding. With a sharp order, the rest of his company fell back away from the death field. The order was quickly spread across the battle field, and men and vehicles were quickly falling back across the desert. Some men simply gave up, arms in the air and slowly walking towards the enemy's location, passing by their dead comrades.

Brief Statement from the Dyelli Beybian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

It has been noted that the Nation of Lorotheon, currently engaged in military action with a Nation under the protection of the Holy Kingdom, has acted in violation of Protocol III of the 1980 UN 'Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons' through the indiscriminate use of incendiary ammunition, namely napalm and white phosphorous munitions.

Dyelli Beybi is of course appalled by this blatant violation of International Law. Let it be known that we regard the Generals, Political Leaders and other personse of Lorotheon associated with the production and use of these weapons to be war criminals who in the event of capture will be tried and sentenced as such.

Message:

"We wish to tell that we are only here to enfore peace upon Turka-Sir and to end the mad reign of a man who is randomly killing people of opposing religions. As such we request that you fall back and in return we shall agree to jointly occupy Turka-Sir with you and also end all bombings of the cities of Turka-Sir."

The Dyellians didn't reply for quite some time. Twelve aircraft which appeared to be fighters broke away from the rest, straining to aquire a missile lock.

When they did eventually make the effort it was to say;

This is not an occupation force. Now you reveal your true Imperialistic ambition! Stand down immediately Western Imperialists!

Apparently the offer of 'joint-occupation' did not go down well.

IC:
Eleven Days Before Assassination
It was a day of celebration. The Islamic Holy Warriors were victorious! However, it was a bitter-sweet victory. While they had successfully driven off the invaders, their land and economy was a complete mess. Their capitol lay in ruin, and valuable farmland was now marred with craters. Thousands were claimed by the flames of war, and funeral arrangements were still underway.

However, this did not stop the grateful Dictator from composing a letter to his faithful supporter and ally, the Dyelli government, which invited them to celebrate in the presidential palace. It was thanks to their advanced weaponry that had won the day. Were it not for their support on the coast, the Turka-Sirian army would have been surrounded and consumed.
Dyelli Beybi

OOC: Yeah it is, seems people just lost interest, or perhaps it was the holiday season. Well there are always other threads to start up.

IC:

The large contingent of Dyellian troops still present in Turka-Sir was now helping with the clean up especially around the coast where they had been mostly deployed. Most people had failed to understand why the Dyellians had aided; theirs was a mindset that was hard to fathom.

After sitting on it for a day the Dyellians eventually responded with a polite letter. Yes, their Prime Minister would be attending along with a representative of the Foreign Office. The letter came with a question as to whether or not the Turka-Sir Government felt it would be a good idea to move one Dyellian Army to the Capital to help in the cleanup? They left unmentioned the fact that they would also help provide additional security if necessary.
Turka-Sir
02-01-2008, 20:37
Nine Days Before Assassination
Halim Jerashaw sat alone in his room, at a desk near the window. Earlier he had given permission Dyelli to move their soldiers to the capital to help with the cleanup. Unlike war, where everything was so easily destroyed, the rebuilding was long and strenious. Almost everyone was lending a helping hand in clearing away the bombed out streets of rubble. The coastline was now cleared of all unexploded shells, destroyed vehicles, and enemy bodies. The countryside was taking the longest to rebuild, however, because of the vast expanse of destruction that had been lain out across the country.

The celebration was to occur that night, and everything had been prepared as best as they could. The entire block the presidential palace sat in had been cleaned meticulously, and was now a shining example of what the country should look like.

The only matter to settle was the hostages... Or what remained of them. A full score of them were still being held inside the presidential palace. This war had taught Halim to respect his enemies, something he failed to do prior to the conflict. He had presumed his enemy cowards, and therefore would be cowed easily with the threat of their citizens. He was wrong. So he sat in his room and reflected. The armies of the West were formidable, that much he had learned. Were in not for his ally's brave actions, he and his country would have fallen to their onslaught.

The Army that arrived in the Capital was one made up of the D'Reg tribespeople, meaning about two thirds of it were followers of Sufi Islam with around a third practicing the peculiar Dyellian version of Christianity that was prevalent among the Djels (the dominant ethnic group in Dyelli Beybi). General Ming, a portly Oriental gentleman led the Army. He had been the overall Dyellian Commander in the Field and was quick to set his troops to work in the city; burying the dead, clearing a runway and trying to restore power being his top priorities.

All the troops were wearing the same veil come turban, although one could quickly tell the ethnicities apart by the colour. The D'Regs wore black, the Djels a deep russet brown, while Ming wore a khaki green version.

As soon as a runway was cleared the Dyellian Prime Minister and enterage would arrive by jet...
